5421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: wallet problem and hard re-boot on: November 03, 2017, 10:52:56 AM
You could try to access the flash memory directly.
If you can't access it from your pc via usb you still have the possibility to take the flash memory out of your mobile and insert it into a reading device.
And with the right forensic tools you will be able to completely copy the memory. Allowing you to search for your priv keys/wallet in a safe environment.
In case of you having high amounts of BTC on your mobile this is a viable option. I don't think its worth 50$ tho.
But if you really stored a lot bitcoins on your mobile you should make sure to only access the memory of your phone with a write-blocker. Just to be sure.
5422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Transaction problem on: November 03, 2017, 10:43:58 AM
1. I noticed that backup file lenght has changed, it some 100 bytes bigger that previous keys. Is that Ok?

Thats absolutely fine. This may due to any additional parameters (new addresses, ..) recorded in the backup file.
Or due to a new format.

2. Do I need to also restore BACKUP1 (probably dont)?

I guess you are using a HD wallet (12/18/24 word seed phrase).
In this case no. Since your backup contains "all" addresses of this wallet. It automatically creates new addresses, based on your seed, on demand.

3. I noticed, under my addresses, there are 4-5 adresses (and more under Old). What that means? Are all addresses mine?

Yes, your (probably) HD wallet creates a new address for each transaction. Your seed and a "counter" is used to create a new address.
This is done for privacy reasons.

4. Another person also have my initial backup, BACKUP1. What happens if he/she restore it to their wallet? What can I do to prevent that? Can I generate new address (using same wallet app already installed) and transfer all bitcoin holding to that address, will it prevent this case? I am not so familiar how wallets work.

If someone has access to your old backup (BAKCUP1), he also has access to the seed used to generate this wallet.
Therefore ANY further generated address using this seed is not recommended. This wallet should be treaten as compromised.
You should create a new wallet (new HD Wallet, not just a new address inside your wallet) and transfere your funds to this wallet. At this point you will have
to write down your seed phrase as this is your new backup.
Some wallet apps provide the option to create new HD wallets within the app.

5. Can I now backup my keys in new file and then delete all previous backups and my balance will be ok? I will not do that, but just interested do I need all previous backups or the last one is enough.

"Only last one." - But you should never delete old wallet/backup files.
You should backup your seed as a word phrase. I would not recommend to store backups digital only.
5423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Retrieving lost bitcoins % reward for the golden tip. on: November 02, 2017, 04:22:14 PM
As long as you have the right 12 word seed everything is fine.
Did you already try to use different derivation paths?
Standard is, i think, m/44'/1'/0'/0. But different wallets are using different paths.
I guess there aren't too much mac wallets. Checking the most common paths  could do the trick for you
5424  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Send from Core address to Electrum on: November 02, 2017, 03:00:40 PM
This is a viable plan. This way is definetly secured as long your computer is not compromised and you don't fall for any faked/compromised wallet software.
To pretend a replay attack you would have to send your BTC (currently sitting in your electrum wallet) to a new (3rd) wallet.
At this point your BTC's are safe. The only transaction which could be replayed at this time would be the TX to your (new) wallet on the BTG chain.
And this wouln't harm you at all. So your coins are safe in this scenario.
5425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: FORGOT PRIVATE KEY on: November 02, 2017, 02:45:26 PM
What do you exactly mean with "forgot" private key?
Did you memorize the whole private key and forgot it? In that case noone can help you.
But if you did not just try to memorize it a few more information would be nice. How and where did you store your private keys?
Did you store your private keys? or did you store a seed from a wallet? Did you use an online wallet and lost the login credentials?
If you somhow deleted a file containing your private key from your computer you should immediately stop using it.
As there is a high risk threads overwriting this hdd space. A forensic backup should be maken in this case.
We can definetly give you more help if you give us more information.
5426  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: seed phrases on: November 02, 2017, 02:15:50 PM
So far I can't figure out if a seed phrase is connected directly to my bitcoin (somehow) or to a particular wallet?
For example, if I had 3 soft wallets and a hardware wallet, would they all have independent seed phrases?

A seed (12/18/24 word seed) is used to create a HD (Hierarchical deterministic) wallet.
This means that you can create different addresses out of one seed. This "feature" allows you to have a big amount of private keys / addresses behind 1 seed (easier to memorize/backup/secure).

If I had the copay wallet and emptied and deleted it, it would then be ok to throw away the copay seed phrase for that wallet?

Theoretically yes. But Satoshi adviced to "never delete a wallet (or its phrase)".
If you are sure you will never recieve any coins again to one of the addresses created from this wallet then yes, you can delete it.

Point being, I'm getting a Trezor today and want to make sure I do it right, which I THINK is to generate a whole new seed phrase that is specific to the Trezor and the bitcoin on the Trezor only, correct?

Yes.. you definetly should generate a new seed on your trezor. Thats the only way to guarantee "no one" except your trezor device knows your seed (and therefore all your private keys).
5427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's wrong with myetherwallet today i can see my coins but im not allowed to.. on: November 02, 2017, 01:58:25 PM
Did your trezor show a message to confirm a transaction on its display?
Or didn't it take you to the screen at all ?
Usually, after connecting and unlocking your trezor you are able to send ether / interact with tokens after confirming on trezor display.
A few screenshots would be helpful, at least of the message popping up.
5428  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Address each time for Ledger Nano on: November 02, 2017, 01:50:30 PM
I have a balance of a few Bitcoin in my Ledger Nano.
I find my Ledger Nano Bitcoin "Deposit to" address and look it up on BlockChain Explorer and it shows NO Activity, zero balance.
Is this because the Nano generates a new address after each use of a present address?
Sorry, I'm a newbe.

H

yes by default it can be generate new address. it has more secure so by default generating new address is really good to use. it can generate like that then no hack to this. so try to use once it is really it gives you more security.

Actually it does not really give you more security.
Security-wise its ok to use an address more than once. Its the privacy you want to protect with new addresses each transaction.
I dont understand what you mean with "it can generate like that then no hack" since there is no possible "hack" or whatever to addresses used more than once.
5429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Got hacked and robbed. My mistake for keeping coins on exchange on: October 31, 2017, 11:55:31 AM
SMS 2FA is more vulnerable to spoofing than Google Authenticator.
But despite of any vulnerabilities.. you should never store coins longer than necessary on an exchange.
You should definetly run a full malware scan.
Do you have any clue how this happened? Did you already scan your pc for malware?
Did you logon from mobile phones? Or via hotspot? Did you always check you are on the official site? Also checked TLS encryption (https)?
If you have different passwords for coinbase and your email account and you never reused a password twice the chances that
you are infected with a trojan is very very high. In this case clean your PC, get a fresh OS and only then start storing
bitcoins (or login credentials to exchanges) on your pc again.
5430  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin core set up low fee by default ? on: October 31, 2017, 11:31:11 AM
I know that I can set up paytxfee, but I want that bitcoind server set it up automatically - how can I do that ?

You have always to choose your transaction fee by yourself. There is no "bitcoin server" (neither a "bitcoind server").
The fee of 20 Sat/B appears to be the standard value in your client.
Next time, check https://bitcoinfees.21.co to see how big the fee has to be to get your TX confirmed within x blocks.
Ant the next time you forgot to change your fee you can use a free TX accelerator to get your transaction faster confirmed.
You can find those in the service section on this forum.
5431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Signing a BTC address on a Windows PC? on: October 30, 2017, 08:54:48 PM
The ledger nano s offers the option to sign messages from addresses which were created on this ledger.
You have to open the settings menu -> tools -> "sign message".
Afterwards you can choose an address which you want to use signing the message and enter your message.
Sometimes it shows an error message. In this case you should try to update your firmware and try it again afterwards.

But I have a Nano, not a Nano S.

Excuse me for my typo. I meaned the Nano. I own a ledger nano myself (nano, not the new nano s).
And signing message works as i wrote above.

Just install Bitcoin Core and import the keys by going to Help->Debug windows->Console and type
Code:
importprivkey <your_private_key>
.

I would not recommend to import your private keys into bitcoin core. You would have to use your recovery seed to create the
private keys to be able to import them to bitcoin core since ledger does not support key exports.
Additionally this would completely destroy the sense of having a hardware wallet which is not directly connected to the internet.
5432  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bitcoin wallets on: October 30, 2017, 08:45:44 PM
Which is the best wallet for bitcoin with the tiniest fees?

There are different types of wallets. You can choose between online-, hardware-, lightweight-, mobile- and classic (full node) wallets.
The transaction fee is not dependend on the wallet you use. Its depending on how much transaction are waiting for confirmations.
You can check the current average fee to get your transaction confirmed within x blocks here: https://bitcoinfees.21.co.

What you are basically looking for is a wallet with adjustable fees.
If you are looking for a wallet for your desktop pc i would recommend electrum as a lightweight wallet (does not need whole blockchain).
You can adjust fee as you wish within electrum.
If you want a mobile wallet i would recommend mycelium. The fee is "pretty adjustable". You cant set it manually, but you got a lot of options
to chose from. Those range from 10 B/Sat to 300+ B/Sat.
If you are going to store big amounts of bitcoins you should use a paper wallet or (for better usability) a hardware wallet.
A more detailed list of bitcoin wallets can be found here: https://www.weusecoins.com/en/find-the-best-bitcoin-wallet/
5433  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: JAXX Bitcoin/Ethereum wallet - DO NOT USE on: October 30, 2017, 06:50:47 PM
It may be possible that JAXX changed the standard derivation path for their wallet.
This would mean your keys still hold your bitcoins. You could try to import your seed into a different wallet (e.g. electrum)
and chose the most common derivation paths. That may lead to a "restore" of your right addresses and your funds.

Are you sure you downloaded the official version? And you did not have any other malware on your device?
JAXX has some known security flaws. But i'm not sure if JAXX stole your funds or some malware made use of those security holes.
Did you already scan your device for any kind of malware? In future i would advise to use mycelium on androids and electrum/core on desktop pc's.
5434  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware wallets newbie questions on: October 30, 2017, 06:41:24 PM
Hello, I'm planning to buy a hardware wallet for myself.

Thats a good idea, and probably the most user friendly opportunity to safely store and still use your bitcoins!

I wonder if you need to synchronize your wallet from time to time in order to make sure your cryptocurrencies are not lost or something?

No, you don't have to synchronize your wallet. The application, from which you access your hardware wallet, uses an online service to sync the current
status of your addresses. So basically its always up to date when connected to the internet.

Another thing is - can those wallets break down over time so you won't be able to run them? What then, have you lost all of your cryptos there? Or what if you simply lose your hardware wallet, is there any remotely based recovery option?
Can any kind of malware steal your funds or private key or anything at all?

Theoretically they can break, yes. But at initialisation of your hardware wallet you have to write down a 12 or 24 word phrase from which your determenistic wallet can be
recovered (this 12/24 word phrase recovers all of your created private keys (and therefore the corresponding funds stored in your addresses).

A hardware wallet holds your private keys encrypted and never releases them to pc/outside of hw wallet.
Basically your (to the internet connected) pc creates an unsigned transaction and forwards it to the hardware wallet which signs your transaction and forwards it to your pc
back again. Your pc can therefore be infected and your funds are still safe and noone has access to your private keys.
The most important part is to have your pc clean when initializing your trezor/ledger/... wallet
5435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Satoshi Nakamoto Matter? on: October 30, 2017, 06:29:23 PM
In theory it does not matter who satoshi nakamoto is. There is just one big problem.
When he starts moving his coins around. Even just one transaction would probably make bitcoin fall because of panic sell.
I think this is a point because big investors are afraid of investing into bitcoin. One unknown person holding so much bitcoins can
harm the system and therefore makes big whales rather invest into safer, less profitable, investments.
But as long the coins remain untouched, i think this does not matter and it will get less and less important to future possible investors.
5436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I have lost my Bitcoin, is there anything I can do? on: October 30, 2017, 05:41:33 PM
At first you could look at the size of the files. I guess if its less than 1 kb there probably won't be any chances of getting your private keys.
You may find out how the encryption in macwallet worked at the time you were using it. There are tools online which can help you to decrypt you file.
Afterwards you might find any information if you open the file in a hex editor. Or try to import it into a new version of macwallet with restore option.
You also could try some tools which try to restore all kind of wallet files on your pc. But this should be done without internet connection (for security reasons).
5437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: $350 for anybody who can help me get my bitcoins back on: October 30, 2017, 05:35:30 PM
You can decrypt your private key @ https://strongcoin.com.
Just click on your Account ->Decode private key. Then enter your password and you get your decrypted private key.
Afterwards you can import it into another wallet to spend your funds (e.g. electrum: https://electrum.org/ ).
But make sure to only work with your decrypted private key in a safe environment. If your not sure about your pc, rather
use a linux live system to decrypt and import the private key.

5438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Someone sent my bitcoins on: October 30, 2017, 05:24:23 PM
can i get them back somehow?

Unfortunately this is not easily possible. You could try to trace the address and if you may land on an exchange and you inform your local
law enforcement agency. But this depends on the amount if bitcoins stolen.

can i find him?

You can try to start a blockchain analysis. I think there are quite a few services online. But this costs money.
And you still only can find the "final recieving address". This can, but doesnt have to, lead to a success. Especially with coin mixing services available.

how can i find the malware?

To find the malware your best bet would be to first use a simple av scanner (e.g. malwarebytes anti malware) to scan. Afterwards you should
wipe your hard drive and get a fresh copy of your OS. Until then you should not store any coins on your pc.
5439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: My friend have a broken laptop with 200 BTC in offline wallet. on: October 29, 2017, 09:39:35 PM
Everytime when i see posts about that.
thinking about to create some backup cause my laptop not so good . i have question - i need to copy only wallet.dat to a new laptop ? Or there is some other ways to create backup to be safe.

Backing up wallet.dat is enough to be safe.

@OP:
What exactly is broken? If your hard drive is damaged you should be carefully.
Don't try to boot from this HDD anymore and dont access this HDD directly.
First you should clone the HDD and only work on the cloned, mounted copy. Additionally i would recommend to only
connect to the hard drive via Write-blocker (to make sure your OS does not write on the hard drive; this could lead to a loss of "deleted" files since they are marked
as available space). Write blocker cost about 50$. But when trying to access 200BTC i would rather spend those 50$ and not have my funds stolen by any
non-trustworthy it-repair-man or have wallet.dat corrupted..
5440  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Myceliums Bad Reviews on Googleplay on: October 29, 2017, 09:21:45 PM
Most of the bad review seem to be from people who don't know how bitcoin works.
For example, one gave 1 star commenting with
Quote
..this wallet says transaction will go through within 10 minutes, but it took 60+... there are online service delivering much more quality..
Other people complained about the not working feature, connecting mycelium with trezor.
Im using mycelium myself. I think thats one of the best mobile wallets available for android.

I don't see any option that you can pay 1 sat/byte where honestly you see this option?
Under "low prio" i have the option to choose between 0, 10 and 21 sat/byte fee.
