Something like

with x=time, y=price, z=MtGox lag would be awesome!  Grin
oh yeah, that's how i like it. welcome to the future of bitcoin
imagine that stuff in realtime without lag. i think I'd get epileptic shocks watching it.

It wouldn't look like that though. It'd be a single line.

I could be up for some stereoscopy, I just bought a 3D monitor.
5422  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: SpeedyBitcoin - UK (GBP/EUR) - Safe, Fast and Convienent BTC purchases! on: April 12, 2013, 01:54:57 PM
Really suffering from lack of information on the site now. The pound is up nearly 4c from a week ago so what exchange rate will be used? Also, with all the mess with Gox in the last couple of days, buying blind is too much of a crapshoot. Nice service when things are fairly calm though.

WTF is bid-wall dud up to?

OK, I'm off to bed. You chaps have this all sorted out for the morning, OK?

It's been fun but I have to maintain perspective. I'm in this for the long haul. I'd just about done buying coins at the crazy prices they were reaching but if they keep dropping, I'll definitely be buying up more (I actually picked up 1/2 a bitcoin in this mess so I figure I'm ahead). This may have been bad for Bitcoin short-term but no doubt the attention means wheels have been set in motion. I remain a long-term bull. For the longest time...

I leave you with a quote...

Quote
Listen, lad, I built this kingdom up from nothing. All I had when I started was swamp ... other kings said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same ... just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So I built a another one ... that sank into the swamp. I built another one ... That fell over and THEN sank into the swamp .... So I built another ... and that stayed up. ... And that's what your gonna get, lad: the most powerful kingdom in this island.

This one looks likely:

Quote
-w PORT or ADDR:PORT, --worker-port PORT or ADDR:PORT
listen on PORT on interface with ADDR for RPC
connections from miners (default: all interfaces,
                        bitcoin:9332, litecoin:9327, terracoin:9322)

Use localhost:9332 but make sure not to lock your miner out. If you are on Windows, you can use Windows Firewall to restrict things somewhat and on Linux, you can use iptables to do all sorts of magic.
This only changes the port and locks the UI to a specific adapter. For example, I'd like to bind it to my Hamachi IP so I can access the page through my laptop when I'm away. But I can't stop everyone else on the network from peeking.

If you bind to localhost, you can use SSHD or similar to provide access.

If I knew more Python, I'd probably be up for putting basic authentication in myself. How are the maintainers about accepting patches with this one?

Is there any way to add a list of black/whitelisted IPs that can access the p2pool web interface? I know you can do it with a firewall, but i'm asking about native support. Is there any compromising info listed on that page were an untrusted party to have access to the UI?

There's not much. Arguably, it displays your public key which could be a way to tie your account to your IP and other activities. It should really only bind to localhost by default. Then, optionally, it should have a whitelist and/or require authentication. Also, it would be a good idea if it had yet another step required if it was being accessed from a public IP rather than a private one.
5429  Economy / Speculation / Re: This crazy day shows that Bitcoin is not a bubble? on: April 11, 2013, 05:20:15 PM
These corrections will get relatively smaller with time, as more and more people start using bitcoins. That is my prediction.

They have been getting bigger, though.

A couple weeks ago these corrections were 20% drops, and a couple weeks before that they were <15%.

We were definitely way, way too high at 265. But this time, Gox lag was up to 75 minutes at one point.
5430  Economy / Speculation / Re: This crazy day shows that Bitcoin is not a bubble? on: April 11, 2013, 05:17:54 PM
Some argue that the lag actually prevents full blown capitulation. I guess we'll find out when they fix it.

Nonsense. It turns a thoughtful slide into a full-blown rout. No-one who's trading wants their capital stuck on an unresponsive server as the price plummets towards zero. At that point, it's all-out for anyone who's not iron-clad in the gonad department.

I bought most of my BTC from a person-to-person trade.

And he got shut down by his bank shortly after I made the trade.

Bitcoin needs to evolve more of its trade ecosystem. The events of the last few days were things getting ahead of themselves.
5434  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 11, 2013, 04:49:47 PM
The irony of this situation is that if it were easier to move fiat to the various exchanges through the legacy banking system, there wouldn't be any problem at all.

Yeah it is frustrating to be unable to buy. I see no way to get funds to any exchange unfortunately.

Really? You don't have any of those new-fangled bitcoin things? I've heard the whole point is you can move them around the world without restriction and instantly.

Just move them to say bitcoin-24, sell them and bang, you're off.

This only doesn't work if you think the rate has completely bottomed. Do you think that?

Unfortunately, bitcoin-24 price tends to be lower because of the lack of fiat there. It's a catch 22. The main thing I see that Gox had was being able to get money in there. I bought most of my BTC from a person-to-person trade.

Agree, I just want to open an account, and deposit with iDeal, or Neteller/Moneybookers.
Instead they use obscure payment options that I've never heard of, what the hell is an OKpay or a liqpay ?? Never heard of them.

And when you click on the links, you get a page full of Russian. Confidence inspiring.

I fckn hate it to be all-in in Bitcoin.
I WANT TO BUY MOAR! RAAAAWR!

Well, this is a bit more action now than I wished for.
If this results in the end of MtGox and a single fat centralized exchange, it may have been worth it nevertheless.

Ente

Yes. Decentralized currency brought low by centralized exchange. Let this be a lesson to us all.

Note that arguably Gox also arguably contributed to the high price. All those people queuing up for verification...

5437  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Questions About Running 220V for Rigs.. on: April 11, 2013, 03:43:42 AM
I am getting into more serious LTC mining, and am building multiple rigs.

Recently, I had 4, 20 amp breakers installed for 110v outlets. After (finally) getting a kill-a-watt, I've determined that the amperage draw from these rigs is immense - about 9 amps with 5 GPUs. So I could run 8 rigs. However, I'd like to run more than that - preferably 12 or 14. Additionally, my power box is rated at 200 amps, which would worry me if I tried to install more breakers/110V circuits.

Enter the idea of 220 volts. I've seen videos/pictures of people running Bitcoin rigs off of 220V, which allows them to run a lot more systems off of one circuit (one such person was running something like 5 rigs off of one 220v dryer outlet).

So my questions about 220V....

1. Wiring wise, what would I have to change if I wanted to run 220V? Would I have to have everything changed out - breakers, wiring, and outlets, or just breakers and outlets?

2. My PSUs are rated for up to 264v (Seasonic 1250W). I assume these will work, correct? I will just need an adapter to go from the 220v outlet/power strip to the PSU, right?

3. How stupid, crazy, or risky is this idea? Mind you, the wiring and electrical installation would NOT be done by me. I have a professional electrician that has done work for me, and installed the 20a breakers.

Or are there any other suggestions for running more rigs on less amperage?

Thank you!

Theoretically, if you are just using one circuit, you won't have to change the wiring. be wary what else the circuit might be used for though. Don't end up trying to run your lights or hairdryer off of 240 (single phase is actually 120V, not 110V, interesting fact). You will be using two phases so you should replace two single breakers with a double. You should use a different outlet to prevent accidentally plugging something in that you didn't mean to.

Your PSUs may be dual voltage meaning you just plug them in. Some have a switch to switch between the two. Some are only capable of one or the other and you would either have to use an adapter or replace them (replace may actually be cheaper). It should say on the label on the PSU (Though I once had to replace a 120/240 PSU that would not work on 120).

Whether it makes sense is something you would have to work out. It would depend on the circumstances you are working in. How far from the breaker boxes are your rigs? Are you in a home (presumably) or a business? Do you care that you might need to switch it out when/if you stop mining or move? Could you just use an extension cable instead?

If it's true, you wasted your money on drugs, and went to work high. If false, you are trying to scam us. Either way, I have no sympathy for you.
