5461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did Satoshi just moved his coins? on: May 21, 2020, 08:57:35 AM
Why does Satoshi's blocks look different than others? Where did you get this chart from? I'm really curious about this.

The theory is based on research published by Sergio Demián Lerner. Here is some background:

Quote
The latest paper, called “The Return of the Deniers and the Revenge of Patoshi,” at first discusses Lerner’s original study and how he originally came to his previous conclusion. Lerner detailed how he found the information in the extranonce field and how certain flaws revealed information in a “non-privacy preserving way.”

Quote
However, Lerner’s latest study “proves with overwhelming probability” that a single miner extracted all of the coins in his Patoshi pattern, which is well over a million BTC. The researcher’s new argument is based on computer clocks because even in the early days miners used a local computer’s clock to timestamp blocks after processing them.

Quote
“There are no time inversions between Patoshi blocks — Zero — This result is very relevant considering the Patoshi blocks account for 43% of all the blocks in the first 50k. I’m open to considering other explanations, but for me, this can only mean one thing — There is a single PC clock whose time is stamped in the Patoshi blocks.” Lerner’s paper continues: “A single software that controls how block templates are created — A single miner.”

The evidence is fairly convincing, but I wouldn't consider the theory bulletproof.

Wow! I really didn't know about this until now. That's pretty fascinating... Thank you for the explanation.

Sorry for the off-topic, but could you please elaborate a bit more about this? Why does Satoshi's blocks look different than others? Where did you get this chart from? I'm really curious about this.

I was also not aware of the fact that it is possible to identify the blocks that is mined by Satoshi, but they say there is something called Patoshi pattern, and that Satoshi blocks can be identified by specific data called nonce. However, they say that this is not a method that can determine with complete certainty that it is not Satoshi block.

It's funny that everything around Satoshi is so secret. I'm really amazed that in ten years no one managed to identify who Satoshi really is.
5462  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Best crypto wallet - Ledger Nano X ? on: May 21, 2020, 08:51:14 AM

Is Ledger Nano X the best crypto wallet (in terms of most secure and easy use for many coins)? I find that the seed phrase generated is potentially very troubling for two reasons: (1) If other people spot the seed phrase, they can take away all the coins. How do you keep the seed phrase long term? (2) I read that "generally a seed phrase only works with the same wallet software that created it".  What if that software - Ledger Live is no longer available or workable in the future? Thanks for any relevant info.

People are paying very high premium buying bitcoin and ether in Grayscale's Fund - GBT and Ethe. I guess an important reason is that it is too difficult or too much trouble to keep and manage private keys themselves.

It's not hard to keep your crypto funds safe at all. I don't know why would anyone pay someone else to keep their crypto when you can have it stored in a free paper wallet. And I think that paper wallet (if generated and used correctly) is more secure than any other wallet. It's not a convenient way to keep crypto if you are making a lot of transactions but if you just keep it stored then paper wallet is great choice.

As for the seed phrase, no one will see your seed phrase if you generate it in private. You don't have to use it anymore except if you lose or broke your hardware wallet and have to get a new one. Then you will use your seed phrase to initialize your new hardware device with an old wallet.

5464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Price Drops 5%,is it a buy the dip opportunity? on: May 21, 2020, 07:51:39 AM
Why open another thread when someone else posted exactly the same question few hours before you?
5465  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin price drops is a buying opportunity? on: May 21, 2020, 07:02:11 AM
Yes, my suggestion to you that is bets time to buy bitcoins now because of the bitcoin price is under correction level now, so once it cross the correction level then it will go all-time higher. because we know the past after halving the bitcoin price went moon.

Are you serious? Who can say for sure that the price will go up just because it did so in the past? We can only hope and wish for it to grow, but I wouldn't be that certain it will go to the moon.
5466  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Kredit za bitcoin on: May 21, 2020, 06:57:25 AM
5467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2009 coins on the move? Probably not Satoshi on: May 21, 2020, 06:36:52 AM
@Darker45. However, Hal came on 2010, correct? This is 1 year after the said 50 BTC coinbase was rewarded to the miner.

I speculate that the only miners 1 month after bitcoin's creation might predominantly Satoshi with different computers.

I guess you didn't read the whole Hal Finney's post. He says:

...
Fast forward to late 2008 and the announcement of Bitcoin. I've noticed that cryptographic graybeards (I was in my mid 50's) tend to get cynical. I was more idealistic; I have always loved crypto, the mystery and the paradox of it.

When Satoshi announced Bitcoin on the cryptography mailing list, he got a skeptical reception at best. Cryptographers have seen too many grand schemes by clueless noobs. They tend to have a knee jerk reaction.
...

As you can see, he knew about Bitcoin in 2008. but that sentence "The next I heard of Bitcoin was late 2010" means that he again heard of Bitcoin in late 2010.
5468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Up by 16% Post Halving on: May 21, 2020, 06:27:34 AM
The biggest difference with this third halving is that now there are BTC futures where traders can make ton of money even if the price is going down. Futures were introduced after the 2017.-2018. bull run so first two halving weren't affected by them. I'm saying this because after futures were introduced, for a futures trader it's not important where the price is going (up or down). It's important that the price is volatile. That's why it could happen that we don't see a bull run at all...
5469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Huobi's VP accuses BNB and CMC for 'distorting' crypto rankings on: May 21, 2020, 06:23:29 AM
Whether it's a manipulation or not, we can't argue that Binance is the most popular exchange right now. When did you see a pump caused by Huobi listing? Or any other exchange that claims to be the most popular?

On the other hand, there are number of competitors to CoinMarketCap so if anyone dislikes those changes, they can use any other site. My personal favorites are CoinGecko and CoinPaprika (I can't decide which one is better Grin ).
5470  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin price drops is a buying opportunity? on: May 21, 2020, 06:18:03 AM
Bitcoin (BTC) price abruptly dropped 4.9% from $9,800 to $9,324 after rejecting at a key resistance level again, is it a buy the dip opportunity?  Huh

It looks like a good buying opportunity, but no one knows exactly. Who says that this is the bottom and that price will go up now? On May 7th BTC was rejected from $10k too and the price went all the way down to $8100 in the next three days. If you want to buy, the best advice is dollar cost averaging.
5471  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best advice for Bitcoin ATH investors ?? on: May 20, 2020, 01:59:13 PM
A smart move would've been to lower down their average purchase price. If they bought $2k worth of BTC when it hit $19k and bought $2k more when it hit the low $3k, today they'd own approximately 0.8 BTC so about $7.8k. That's a profit of $3.8k overall.

This "I'm waiting for it to get back to $20k" I believe has a much lower chance to turn into reality than the strategy above. If you lower down your average purchase price, you may enter profit without even knowing it.

Even if you bought $2k worth of BTC at $19k and only a quarter more (so $500) at $3k, you'd be today on approximately $0 loss as you'd own exactly around $2.5k worth of BTC. Still much better than a $1k loss.

The biggest problem with this is to decide when to buy more. It's easy now to say that he should have bought more BTC when the price was $3k, but how could anyone have known that it is the bottom? The price could have easily drop a little more. Today we all know it didn't, but who knew back then? No one. That's the biggest problem.
5472  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: ‎Google Authenticator app - opasnost od krađe kodova on: May 20, 2020, 11:24:46 AM

5473  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: ‎Google Authenticator app - opasnost od krađe kodova on: May 20, 2020, 10:50:41 AM

5474  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Zasto ljudi ne prihvacaju Bitcoin kao "pare" on: May 20, 2020, 06:18:24 AM
Nebitno koliko ljudi prihvaćaju btc, prihvatit će kad budu morali odnosno kad to budu rekli kapitalisti.

5475  Local / Trgovina / Re: [WTB][K] Kupujem dukate / zlatnike on: May 19, 2020, 07:24:46 PM

5476  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning] New Bluetooth Vulnerability Exposes Billions of Devices to Hackers on: May 19, 2020, 01:31:31 PM
I don't think that these kind of attacks are that dangerous. An attacker still needs your password to unlock the wallet. More dangerous are WiFi attacks when you are working on your laptop in a hotel room. And you can't turn off your laptop's WiFi if you are working like you can turn off Bluetooth. The bottom line is, all wallets (on laptop, on mobile phone, and even on a hardware wallet) must have a strong password in order to unlock it. Just because you have password on your Windows account it doesn't mean that you can put some simple password (like 12345678) on a crypto wallet.

I personally use BT very rarely, and mostly in a home environment between known devices. I don't remember the last time I used it to send something to someone else, because there are much quicker and easier ways to share photos or videos nowadays. However, I can agree that a smartphone is not a place to store large quantities of crypto, unless it is cold storage.

The problem is when you own a smartwatch. You have to use a Bluetooth to connect it to your mobile phone. Bluetooth is not just for sending and receiving photos and music anymore.
5477  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Zasto ljudi ne prihvacaju Bitcoin kao "pare" on: May 19, 2020, 08:21:19 AM
