5461  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Looking to buy ASIC miners [EU] only. on: October 31, 2021, 10:02:00 AM
While it doesn't meet the escrow part, did you check for new miners at bitshopper.de ?
I know that at least the Sidehack/GekkoScience products are sold in EU there.
5462  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 13 yr Anniversary of the Bitcoin Whitepaper on: October 31, 2021, 09:55:58 AM
I always wonder how many “Bitcoiners” have actually read it ?
Page 9 (references) is a rabbit hole for anyone to fall into too  Smiley

The answer is "far too few".
I think that people somehow think of it as difficult and overly technical and they're afraid to read it. I think that some may also think it's long. And yeah, people are lazy, me included.
I've got to actually read the whitepaper only at the point I was asked to proofread the translation of it. So, a bit late, but I've read it.

Happy 13th Birthday  Smiley Thankyou Satoshi

Indeed, Happy Birthday and a big Thank you!
5463  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Binance automatically logged out during trading on: October 31, 2021, 09:01:37 AM
I've had some weeks the app disconnected every couple of days and had to re-login, but actually lately it seems to have stabilized again (I don't know though if it's after the last update or it's because I've bought a better WiFi router).

OP - I am not sure if you'll be able to prove it was Binance's fault. And they can easily claim that it was some automatic feature for your own security. Or maybe your app has been updated (do you have automatic updates on?)
If you want to do this kind of operations where you have to be there continuously, you should consider doing that from a PC/laptop.
5464  Economy / Economics / Re: $1 Billion Science Fund to Use Blockchain Projects to Extend Human Lifespan on: October 30, 2021, 12:58:31 PM
“blockchain technology”, really a stupid pleb-term

Indeed. I guess that it was made up by people who don't know what it is and it is also targeting the people who don't know what's all about. Typical buzz words.

But can “those tokens” that were existing before “blockchain technology”, really a stupid pleb-term, be listed in exchanges then be sold, actually DUMPED, to US the plebs? What exchanges were there before “blockchain technology”?

In the past these exchanges weren't existing, so it's not a good comparison. But even nowadays, in the ICO era, there were "coins" that could be acquired only from their own website. So dumping onto plebs is still possible.
But my initial point was that those buzz words were used in order to make things look advanced and complicated to be implemented so they can eat up investors' initial funds. I mean that with 5.1M funds at hand, they don't even need to dump tokens, they're are already set.
5465  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Instructions Installation BTC-RPC-Block Explorer under Ubuntu on: October 30, 2021, 12:40:42 PM
It was changed by me for Ubuntu.

I'm glad it worked out for you on Ubuntu and very nice of you to spend some time and prepare this walk-trough.
And thanks for the link back too Wink

Code:
db_dir = "/home/maxwell/.electrs/DATENBANK"

I would avoid paths where your own home directory is written. I don't know if it would work, but I would give it a shot with something like

Code:
db_dir = "$HOME/.electrs/DATENBANK"
5466  Economy / Economics / Re: $1 Billion Science Fund to Use Blockchain Projects to Extend Human Lifespan on: October 29, 2021, 12:17:39 PM
Because if their developers don’t use “a blockchain” or what they call “blockchain technology”, how would they issue their own shittokens to “private investors”, and for those investors to “sell” them to the people, scamming them?  Cool

Tokens were existing - in a way or another - even before blockchain.
And they can be issued and used easily even with a normal DB.
Of course, they become suddenly top technology if blockchain buzz word is used Cheesy
5467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative to bip39 : memorizing your seed with the PEG system on: October 29, 2021, 10:54:34 AM
As far as I know, bip39 is the most standard way to memorize your HD wallet

No. Not for memorizing. It's the modern way to write down your "keys" (especially because common English words are less prone to error than "random" strings)
Memorizing such things are not advised, since accidents and strokes are far too common. Of course, you are free to do what you want with your own money...
5468  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Would anyone be able to trace a coin through the following transactions? on: October 29, 2021, 09:09:59 AM
  • 2. But then I transfer this 1 BTC onto my personal Ledger wallet, where I already have 2 BTC. On my end, I can easily see that I have 3 BTC. But as Ledger will usually change the receiving address so as to spread the deposited funds across several addresses, will anyone else be able to see that I have 3 BTC, or will they just see that single 1 BTC?

If you have withdrawn to an unused address, it may be that the other 2 BTC is not linked to you.
But if you use a SPV (e.g. Electrum) or Ledger Live, they will know that it's all yours. And from this point it depends whether the Electrum server owner or Ledger reports this or not to a chain analysis company.

  • 3. Now I take 1.5 BTC on my Ledger and swap them over to ETH, which will give me approximately 21 ETH at the current rates. Will outsiders still be able to track and make heads or tail of this transaction, as it will draw funds from both of my BTC addresses and end up on a different blockchain?

You had 2 BTC at another address, so in theory that other address will be used here, as said, possibly with no relation to the 1 BTC from Coinbase.
Also.. "outsiders"? Chain analysis companies are, by far, not outsiders.

  • 4. And then I further go on to transfer my 21 ETH on to Metamask, where I will use a DEX to swap it over to approximately 183 wBNB. It will still be on the ETH blockchain of course, and the same Metamask address too. But it will now be a different token, so can outsiders still be sure that it belongs to me?
  • 5. Then I use a blockchain bridge, to migrate my wBNB over to the BSC. This means the tokens will be swapped over to BNB and also on a different blockchain. Could prying eyes still keep track of this?
  • 6. I then take half the BNB and swap it over to USDT, before I enter them into a liquidity pool. Now I will have a bunch of liquidity pool tokens consisting 50/50 of BNB and USDT. Is it still possible to trace?
  • 7. I stake these LP tokens in a yield aggregator, where they will be added to a much larger pool of locked funds, and automatically reinvested 3x times to earn compounded interest, which I will then harvest in the form of CAKE tokens. But these CAKE tokens will be deposited to the same BSC address I used earlier, so does that mean it would be easy to understand for anyone else just what has transpired?

Here all I see is somebody over complicate things for himself. I am not convinced it'll help to lose track, especially if they look specifically for you.

  • 8. I then swap the earned CAKE tokens back to BNB, and transfer them on Binance, which is of course again a well known exchange with KYC and probably established ties to authorities. But would these authorities be able to know that the receiving address belonged to Binance just from looking at the blockchain? And if they did, could they tell who owned the specific account?

At this point it doesn't matter what they can find out from blockchain. They can ask Binance nicely, can't they?

  • 9. I sell these BNB to USD, and transfer them to my old school bank account via SEPA, which should be a dead giveaway I suppose. But would anyone be able to see that the USD I receive stems from my initial 1 BTC purchase over at Coinbase?

I would not exclude that. And I think that if you'll keep all those tokens in Ledger live they don't even have to search too much.
Also, as I said, the resulted money may very well not come from your 1 BTC. Your example would be more appropriate if you had at home only another less-than-1.5 BTC.

My conclusion is that you just made your life overly complicated and won't help you much because of the use of various checkpoints that can be used for analysis. If you want to get rid of those, you better switch to local full wallets. Also if you avoid mixers and privacy coins the link is not completely broken and since the analysis companies also work with probabilities, if you do this kind of "mixing" multiple times, I expect that they'll find the missing links for the trace. But maybe I'm overly paranoid too.
5469  Local / Altcoins (Monede Alternative) / Re: Se merita sa minez o criptomoneda noua?!! on: October 29, 2021, 08:50:56 AM

5470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unconfirmed balance problem on: October 29, 2021, 08:28:42 AM
My altcoin, when I send balance, it stays in unconfirmed balance forever in the receiving wallet.  How can I avoid this?

The first thing that comes into my mind is that your transaction is never confirmed.
This means that
  • either your fee is too low and miners avoid it
  • either nobody mines that coin

You should give more details on that coin / what you have there.

Si de fapt Netopia (X) chiar nu are crypto in contabilitate. Asa s-ar explica si de ce era asa scumpa conversia, cel putin ultima data cand am cumparat eu cu crypto prin ei.
5472  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lots of questions. Help me get up to speed on: October 28, 2021, 03:43:12 PM
Some are still using bitcoin core but many people prefer to use non-custodial wallet which doesn't need to download whole blockchain which takes up a lot of space. There are wallets you can use like electrum, trustwallet and many more wallet that are non-custodial.

It would be nice if you'd start by learning what custodial wallet means.
Hint 1: it's not about downloading blockchain or not (actually if you use custodial you never have to download the blockchain)
Hint 2: Bitcoin Core is not custodial
5473  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wont the amount of bitcoin in circulation vanish? on: October 28, 2021, 02:18:49 PM
Bitcoin! Bitcoin!! Bitcoin!!! We’re enthusiasts and solely want to know the future of this technology. I believe Satoshi Nakamoto the founder original intention for creating Bitcoin is to develop a Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. This electronic cash system can be used for daily payment and cash circulation in general. It is believed that the total amount of bitcoin in circulation is 21 million bitcoin that exist.
Many capitalized on the worth of bitcoin and use it as a store of value. they end up trading their bitcoin, converting it to physical currencies (Fiat) to solve material problems like buying properties. If this action continue like this and people keep selling their bitcoin for material possessions. Wont the amount of bitcoin in circulation depreciate or even vanish? Because bitcoin is been converted to fiat currency and consumed for material things.
Jack just sold the bitcoin in his wallet to buy 2020 GLK Mercedes Benz, leaving the wallet empty. Is this action not detrimental to bitcoin?

You somehow seem to not understand that when somebody "convert bitcoin into fiat" doesn't burn that bitcoin, instead it ends up in the wallet of somebody else who have paid the right fiat amount for it.
So if Jack's wallet is empty, it only means that Peter now has some more bitcoins. And it's not detrimental, it's actually the reason Bitcoin was invented.

Also you didn't read. For now there are 18.8M bitcoins mined. There will have to pass many years until all 21M bitcoins will be mined. Also because some people have died or made mistakes, some bitcoins are lost forever hence not in circulation.
5474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The president of El Salvador just bout 420 BTC! on: October 28, 2021, 02:02:43 PM
Is a pet clinic a luxury or an urgent need for a country like El Salvador? I have nothing against pets, but some much richer countries do not have such clinics either - I believe that this money could be spent much better on building hospitals for people, kindergartens, schools...

Indeed, he should spend the funds better, instead of spending on "what he likes". For example building more power plants so the country doesn't have to buy from the neighbors would have been a better choice. Your list is also great.
On the other hand, if he wouldn't have been going by "what he likes", Bitcoin may have not been there either (not yet).
5475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need some help!! on: October 28, 2021, 01:11:09 PM
Not sure if the OP is telling the truth. When bitcoin was $3,000 it was next to impossible to sole mine on a laptop/PC.

Seems like bullshit to me.

It’s more likely he’s a scammer or somebody who bought a wallet.dat & doesn’t know the passphrase to allow him to spend the coins in the wallet.

While I won't rule out any possibility, according to his story the mining part has happened before the 3k price. How long before, nobody can tell.
But since he doesn't tell anything about how many bitcoins could be in his wallet, I don't know if he had any.
The "somebody who bought a wallet.dat" doesn't seem that much likely though since he was trying to monetize... old blocks...

For now I tend to believe that this person has no idea what's all this about. Whether he has done anything meaningful or not in the past, whether he has coins that can be recovered or not, those are unclear details. For now I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't like to call people scammer without proof.
5476  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin + Electrum server + Block explorer under Windows (with WSL and Debian) on: October 28, 2021, 09:48:00 AM
Can you help me again how I can install the version "librocksdb-dev=6.11.4-3"?

I also couldn't install that library on Ubuntu in my tests. You can see me complaining here, it was the "smaller" problem I had.
The good news is that you can go without that lib, just then instead of dynamic linking (see the lines in my initial post)

Code:
$ ROCKSDB_INCLUDE_DIR=/usr/include ROCKSDB_LIB_DIR=/usr/lib cargo build --locked --release

you have to go with static linking

Code:
cargo build --locked --release

and you get error here too, you may have to set

Code:
$ RUSTFLAGS="-C link-args=-latomic" cargo build --locked --release

and retry with

Code:
cargo build --locked --release

Those who have effed accounts should pile in here. Free money.

Actually that's not possible, unless the red is strictly because of their campaign. I guess that you've missed this post.
5478  Other / Archival / Re: False Breakout ? on: October 28, 2021, 09:29:32 AM
I believe double your investment is at the very minimum.

Not necessarily. Far too many are preaching/expecting 100k mark getting passed this year. Many are telling that another exponential growth phase is just about to begin. I don't know if they're right (I wish they are), but then x2 should be easy-peasy.

I find it interesting that we've just got a reversed Bart Simpson, which I think it tells that the drop was kinda fake-manipulated. At least for that area.

5479  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Does anyone use cryptocurrencies to buy assets and services? on: October 28, 2021, 09:01:14 AM
Hi friend, I'm a new user of the forum, I tried to search about this subject and didn't find it, could you help me and provide me with the data?
As for the issues addressed by you, I think exactly, the conversion rate and the way the financial system would deal is a case to be thought, especially the security part and the fees charged by card brands and administrators/banks. I would like to address this issue better in the community

I've picked some rather recent topics I find relevant for this subject:

Fees and conversion rates: Helping Businesses Take Crypto Payments. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
Security and privacy: Why KYC is extremely dangerous – and useless and Privacy vs. anonymity
Spending the coins: Shall We Hold Our Bitcoin Like Gollum? or Best thing you bought with Bitcoin? ... here there's no "best" since this topic pops up every now and then, especially in Bitcoin Discussion, maybe Beginners and Help too.
5480  Economy / Reputation / Re: 1xBit campaign is starting again. on: October 28, 2021, 08:32:58 AM
$100/week is pretty damn low if you ask me.

If you compare with the current "market" for signature campaigns, you'll see that many offer less than that, fixed, per week: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0
Then, as said, "low" depends (too) much on the user's home country.

But I do agree, however: it is "damn low" Grin if you take into account that you'll ruin a not-bad-at-all account's future for 100$/week in a campaign that surely won't be here for ever (i.e. long enough).
And I'll come back to my original "hunch": it also depends on how much these accounts costed, since I am not convinced that it's the original owners who apply there.
