5481  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Strange frequency readout S9; Latest firmware but can't see Enhanced Low Power on: September 12, 2019, 12:36:04 AM
Most likely people started burning there S9 so bitmain decided to remove these options

Most of those S9s are not under warranty anymore, in fact it's in Bitmain's best interest that these gears burn.

In the newer versions such as the S9k and S9E , they do not have any power options visible, I haven't had the time to check if they are hidden somewhere like the fan control setting, but it seems like they don't want these setting available for new gears that they are responsible for, as for any other gear , why would they bother if you burn the hell out of your miners? that only means you are very likely going to feed bitmain more money after burning your old S9 ! sounds like a good business plan which I have no double that bitmain would do such a thing ,  I can't confirm it, but they lack ethics enough to do such a thing.
5482  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: ASIC Not working!!! HELP on: September 12, 2019, 12:27:02 AM
Do note that the OP has not made any mention of trying to contact the distributor or manufacturer of this knock-off miner. That of course should be the very first thing the OP should have done...

He needs to know it's a knock-off in the first place, and honestly if the gear does 32th at 2800w as promised-- it does not matter what name they put on it, as for  contacting the manufacturer, honestly this is usually the last thing I personally do simply because

1-The support at these Chinese websites is terrible, had a ton of issues with my gears, most were solved by trial and error or from information I got online (mostly on this very forum) , while the manufacturer will give only give you the abc of trouble shooting only.

2-In many places, the shipping cost for returning the miner back to china is unreasonable, to the extent that some people rather order new hash board/control board or a PSU than having to pay that much for shipping or wait for months to get their replacement.

I think if OP provides enough information and kernel log, someone will be able to give him the solution for this problem without the need for a crystal ball.

Quote

Quote

5484  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: ASIC Not working!!! HELP on: September 11, 2019, 10:41:27 PM
He clearly edited the post after you guys have commented, anyhow , this is the miner he is talking about  I guess.https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33030945725.html

it does look like an Inno gear with a bit of modification, in that link they clearly say

Quote
32T is double tubes,  single tube specification referrence as below:
1. Hash Rate: 16T ±5%
2. Power Consumption: 1400W + 10% (at the wall, 93% efficiency, 25C ambient temp)

which means phill is right, you need at least two PSUs, each must be 1400w minimum , and according to the video, it does look like he got 2 PSUs connected, the miner's fan do spin for a while and then stop , and you said

Quote
I increase the performance of the asic

Which means you tried to overclock the miner, you either burned the miner or one of the PSUs, does it show on the network ?? can you access the user interface? please post more details.

Quote

Quote

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5176743.0

Quote

@ mikeywith and jbillk you are both right. leave it at that.

The english language  plus internet can lead to this apparently contradictory statement I just made..

Can't disagree, however these kind of discussions are supposedly good for everyone, it's a good way to learn , but first you must admit that you don't know everything and there is always something to learn from everyone, that is why I without a shame admitted that I am not any where near expert in the electric field, in fact not even close to average  Grin

I grew up in New York City and in a lot of places or sections of NYC  work is done against code.

I didn't think that was possible in a state like New York , but now that you mentioned it,and since I do trust you I am feeling kind of relieved that these things happen else where and not only in the shit-hole I live in  Grin
5487  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Learn from my mistake (load balancing) on: September 11, 2019, 10:20:08 AM
Doesn't matter if it was not balanced or not.

This is so wrong, unbalanced load leads to the same result, you can read about the distavtanges of having an unbalanced  3 phase system, one of those is the increase of the returned current on the neutral wire, which can eventually lead to a lot of troubles, you are stating the obvious , in fact the breaker should have tripped even if the wire size wasn't able to handle that much current flow.

This of course does not mean you are wrong by saying  "The cables have to be rated for the installed breaker." , but in a case like mine where i can't change the wire size neither the breaker, load balancing is the only thing I can do to fully utilize the power I have.
5488  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What and why? When your pool begins to fall behind. on: September 10, 2019, 11:49:21 PM
Your concern is valid, I have made my decision a long time ago when I decided to take mining as a business and not just a hobby, therefore, it only makes sense to mine at large pools, I tried almost all large/mid pools and found out that recently and for now viabtc with pps+ option is the best for me, when and if I grow my hashrate to a good extent whereby I get to the point that my hasharate will really help a small pool hit block in a very reasonable time frame then all of this could change, but since this is not the case now I rather be on the safe side.

Personally I am think of taking off all next year I need a vacation. Tired of all the drama. Worry about a lot of shit and I do not earn a ton of money doing this.

Cry  this drama comes from having partners to deal with i suppose?  I can relate
5489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How can we figure out the Quality mining rig on: September 10, 2019, 11:24:53 PM
Despite this being posted in the wrong section , your question is kind of useless, you are asking about mining rigs that consist of mainly

1-Gpus
2-Motherboard
3-CPU
4-PSU
5-RAM

All of these equipment are being manufactured by well known companies, so quality is not really a question here, you need to worry about

A- Price : obviously  you want to buy the cheapest GPU avaiable regardless of the brand name , they all have the same chips.
B- Cooling: depends on the card model you want, some companies have better cooling systems than the others, but unless price is pretty close, this point should not be taken into account.
5490  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain to release S17E 64TH on: September 10, 2019, 10:17:39 PM
I had a buddy with a LOT of coupons. They are all 'expired'. So that route may not be around anymore.

I have been using ,buying and selling bitmain coupons for a long enough time to understand how this coupon game operates, but without having to go into a lot of explanations, as long as bitmain does not have a ton of gears sitting around, there will be no coupons circulating around, so if you want to use coupons to buy bitmain gears you got to wait for the next bear market which may take another year or two to start.

5493  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Learn from my mistake (load balancing) on: September 10, 2019, 09:26:41 PM
the wire gets hotter and hotter. Eventually it can essentially turn into a heating element

Honestly I always touch all the wires to check if they get hot or not, and usually they are just a bit warm during noon time, there are many factors that could cause these wires to heat and melt, the technician who came to change the breaker suspects that the wire was a bit loose , he said these wires need to be tightened every now and then because they get loose over time , not sure how accurate this piece of information is, but I took it into consideration and i will add that task to my to-do-list whenever I go there to dust off the gears.
5494  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Learn from my mistake (load balancing) on: September 10, 2019, 04:42:41 PM
@wndsnb

Yup, wire size must be larger than what the breaker can handle, but honestly I think the breaker was bad, i don't understand how these breaker function, but common sense states that if the wire got way to hot to the extent that it melted, the breaker should have sensed that and did the exact thing it was made for "kill the power" but the response took way too long till the breaker went on fire.

5496  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain to release S17E 64TH on: September 10, 2019, 02:44:12 PM

They probably just forgot to delist those coupons, it is not like they can send you an expired coupon and say oh it's not our problem, when the coupons expire they kind of "vanish" , you can't use them, you can't send them you can only view them on the expired coupons tab.
5497  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Learn from my mistake (load balancing) on: September 10, 2019, 02:23:28 PM

I don't live in the U.S , life here is a lot  less complicated  Grin

The electric company will follow the rules and codes all the way to the 11kv level, they don't play around with those, but once the wiring gets to 380v they usually work with what they have, so instead of installing a 50amp breaker they went ahead and used whatever was available which is the 80amp ( i paid for it by the way)

Phil , yes I do have voltage regulators at this location, so balancing the load was pretty accurately done.
5498  Bitcoin / Hardware / Antminer S9E 16th review on: September 10, 2019, 12:02:53 AM
So I got 2 S9Es, mainly for the sake of trying them out and to see how they do against the other S9s.

First let's have a look at the design.

Almost the same depth and width as the other S9 versions, but this one has more height on it, it's like 2cm taller , it comes with a closed-top design whereby you have to remove the cover, and these is a small whole for the PSU cables to come in.

You can see the whole on the bottom-left side of the cover, but honestly it's kind of small and it was a pain the ass to try and insert the fat APW7 wires in it, so to make my life easier, I removed the top cover and the miner turned into a beautiful "convertible lambo" Grin

Below is a compassion between

1-S9E
2-an overclocked S9i
3-an S9 running on LPM

in order from top to bottom.

you can see that S9e does 16.17 on average, with temps at 64c , and that is degrees less than an S9i running on LPM, all miners are in the same room, same fan speed and just about same everything except for the fact that this S9E is still brand new and 100% dust free, I however did dust off the other gears to be fair, so I don't expect the S9E to run that much hotter, and it will at least be 10c cooler than the S9i , obviously the S9i runs cooler than the normal S9 13.5th.

I know you probably want to see the power consumption on these, but sorry Sad I didn't do that since I have free power in this location so I don't really bother , but the S9E is advertised as 1280w for 16th.
5499  Bitcoin / Mining / Learn from my mistake (load balancing) on: September 09, 2019, 11:03:15 PM
This is important for those who  have 3 phase wiring, but it's also important for "internal" load balancing to those who have a single phase set-up.

So yesterday I added 2 S9E (will make a review on those tomorrow there it is )to this small mining farm , went home and everything was working just fine , woke up and found "low-hashrate" notification from the pool, checked the gears and they were all offline.

I went there early in the morning and found this  Shocked

so how did this happen? where did I go wrong??

So the electric company installed this 80amp breaker and said the wire size will only handle 60-65amp on each phase, so that's more or less 9*S9s per phase or 28 S9s in total.

My mistake was that I "by mistake" missed up with the wiring colors because I ran out of wires when I was installing this location, I ended up plugging more miners on one of the phases  ," the burnt one" had already 10 gears on it , and I added 2 more S9E to it, and boom!! burned the shit of that Schneider breaker (the wire did handle that for couple hours , gotta give it that) and technically it should have tripped, but that shit didn't happen.

Anyhow, I called the electric company, and had them change it,  i could have done it myself but I don't have access to the main breaker so it would have been super risky to do so.

And I of course learned from my mistake, spent the whole day balancing those phases and so far everything seems to work just fine.

Now by all means, you should always hire an expert to do these kind of stuff, but there are cases where you have to do the wiring yourself, hope this bit of information will be of any use.
