Has anyone heard of what the warranty is for any of Butterfly Labs products??

BFL stated on the forum that it would honor a 6-month warranty and that they would update the website to that effect. They have not updated the website yet, so I'm not sure how 'official' the 6 months is.
I know I read about the warranty somewhere here, but couldn't find it again in this thread.

You'll find BFL's official warranty post here:

Official...posted to the world in a thread dedicated to trolling BFL...

Do you guys realize that this thread is 50 pages and a product still hasn't come out yet?

It really goes a long way in explaining the gossipy, jumpy and judgmental community we have here.

Finished another advertisement for one of the clients in the magazine. Showing it here for other businesses to understand the level of quality we're working towards.

5523  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Do you own a bitcoin business? If so... on: January 22, 2012, 09:50:48 PM
I totally agree that digital copies should be free.  I think that you will get much more exposure and the advertisements will pay for the magazine, you shouldn't need to charge for downloads.
This is of course true, but only works if there is guaranteed advertising space. If the bitcoin world wasn't so small, I would tend to be a little more confident on the advertising part of it. Again, we're not talking about not being able to produce it-- most anyone in the bitcoin world could afford to do a magazine where the only lose money, but it would be futile and businesses don't work or grow that way. Bottom line, if no one is interested, no one is interested. Our job as I see it, is to provide as many opportunities to both interest people and keep them interested as possible. Beyond that, you can't change figures, and those figures lean towards the magazine not being sustainable by advertisements alone until the readership is at or above the 50,000 reader mark. Obviously could be wrong, but it's what I honestly believe at present.

Or you know that service that let's you download a file if you tweet it.  Like this, this way everyone needs to tweet the message in order to download the magazine, so they are contributing a little but.
Our Marketing Director, Mihai Alisie had proposed this to me, and we considered it long and hard, but being able to pay for the magazine's necessary printing eventually won out.

I will definitely purchase an ad slot, probably the 1/4 page.  It would be awesome to be in issue #1.

I appreciate that greatly. Your support will help us get closer to the point that the print issue price drops and delivering it digitally for free will be a possibility. I also agree with your sentiments. This glossy, thick and high quality magazine will be printed to industry standards. Any business that advertises with us will claim a place in history as all back issues will display their advertising as well. Who wouldn't want that, even if it were a message that said "Hi Mom"?

You should list your advertising prices in Bitcoin...
Again, good idea but in reality doesn't work too well considering we are unable to pay for printing supplies and services in bitcoins, and the market volitility is too high at present. (What would happen if you paid 1BTC for an advertisement and bitcoin's value halved the very next day when we went to pay for printing fees? The magazine would not survive.)

What is the magazine called?

The codename is "BitTalk Magazine", as a release of BitTalk Media who also owns BitTalk.TV. The published name will be different based on what country it is published and marketed to, and that will be released at the time of printing. Right now you can refer to it as "BitTalk Magazine".

Can you share a picture of the cover?
I'm still designing the cover (usually it comes last, after all the other articles are finished and arranged) and I will put it as well as a sample of some of the internal pages in a separate thread when they are done.

I truly appreciate all the questions and I am here to assist in anything regarding the advertisements or subscriptions anytime.

I would gladly pay double the advertising price if the digital issue was free.

If enough businesses feel the way you do and can sustain advertising, we will gladly open up the digital version for free.

I would also suggest to make the first edition free for the digital version. This will bring you a lot of attention and free viral marketing.

I believe we are planning on releasing the second issue digitally for free as a promotion. I don't think it's cost effect to do so in the first month however. At least not yet. Things change daily and we're constantly exploring more opportunities. If you have any suggestions, I openly welcome them.

I would also question a paper copy version from a cost of producing perspective as bitcoin is all about digital. As a potential advertiser a digital copy with direct click link to our offer increase the conversion rate.

For me and i guess also to others in our generation <50 paper is simply dead!
Digital is cheaper, but in both price and quality. We will not reach the masses without a print representation, of that I am absolutely sure. If simply digital were enough, we wouldn't need a magazine at all, we could just make a website and spam it across the globe. No, I'm afraid we need educational institutions, businesses, government organizations and consumers alike to spend their already set-aside funds for publications in order to help seed this process of global education. This is one fact I'm sure of. Paper has as long of a life left as it takes for us to produce unhackable e-paper at the same cost.

As to your feelings on advertising, that's honestly up to your ads. I am confident that an advertisement I make will get the message across in a much more memorable way than some text link or flashing banner.

You might also think about an eMagazin paid version for kindle (amazon) or iBook (apple) rather than investing in a own APP (again saving on the cost factor).

We're exploring all the digital release options, but one of the reasons we are using our own app is due to the payment method of bitcoin. If there is a 'coupon code' feature for these services that we can arrange, then delivering it in any market for USD and simply selling the coupon codes for BTC will be the best solution I think.

If you'd like to help support this initiative, help us gather together enough advertisers to fill these slots above. If we can sell all the slots, I am convinced we can afford to release the digital version for free.
5525  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MtGox account with $220 blocked for more than six weeks without explanation on: January 22, 2012, 08:00:17 PM
That said, I don't see why if the source of the $220 is known, that it can't just be returned to where it came.  It's $220, not exactly the pinnacle of money laundering.

Anyone at MtGox care to explain what kind of concern would result in a conclusion that $220 can't be returned to its sender?

Topping this - regardless of what the answer is, I'd really like to know.

Ditto.
5526  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Do you own a bitcoin business? If so... on: January 22, 2012, 07:30:43 PM
What kind of demographics do you expect for your readers? Will it tend to be people already familiar with bitcoin or a new audience?

Our first readership is expected to be 66% existing bitcoiners. By the second issue, we will aim for the opposite.

The way I figure it is, we need to establish a base before jumping mainstream or else we are 'nobodies' in both places.  Wink

http://bitbills.com/ works for me.

Like I said most of the sites are still operating. I am not sure what the OP is talking about but it seems to me like it might be someone on a revenge mission.

OP: Please clarify.

I think he's talking about businesses that are either not operational and not going anywhere. I don't know why BitPay was on that list even for a moment, but that said-- bitbills definitely belongs on it.

And throw in my old bit-fu.com for good measure. ^_^

IMO not going anywhere ≠ Dead ≠ What the OP says this thread is about

Matthew what was bit-fu supposed to be? It was before my time.

It was my pride and joy until I made something better http://bittalk.tv

So you just gave the project to someone who abandoned it or what? I know of your other project and I submitted one of the questions I hope to be asked to Zhou Tong. It seems to me that he has just too much information and power for any one person. It has been pretty consistent that when any one side is starfished it moves in the opposite direction.

I made the game, was nearly finished with the second version, then the MyBitcoin fiasco happened and I got burnt out trying to make things work in the midst. Plus I was really busy saving the world.

Also, I think you give Bitcoinica too much credit. Bitcoinica is just a tool. It's a tool a bunch of people are using. So in a sense, it's a bunch of people holding guns shooting each other asking "Why are you shooting me!?!?!" and then you're saying "No one should have a gun".

5531  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto X Change - No Bank Fees! Deposit & Withdraw of Any Currency $5 on: January 22, 2012, 09:10:10 AM
Hi,
How exactly can you guarantee your bank accounts don't get frozen?
If you compare to mtgox, why do you guys not have trouble with banks? Will it come when you get bigger?

I am thinking about transfering some off my btc over to cryptoXchange from mtgox, mainly to spread out the risk abit.

Thanks  Smiley

MtGox bank accounts get frozen because MtGox is not run by a registered money service business. Cryptoxchange however, is.

Yes.
5534  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Potential solutions for Escrow/Fraud issues on: January 22, 2012, 06:48:29 AM
This is ridiculous. Of the 3 people who posted after me in that thread:
remmy (the op) understood what I said, up to some technical details.
iamzill probably didn't understand. His loss, my suggestion solves his suggested failure mode and I explicitly addressed it.
BitOffer presumably understood what I suggested, as he referenced it.

My "overly complicating the idea" was written in a way that makes it precise who gets what in which conditions. It was designed to solve the problems raised earlier in that thread - some of which you will probably only realize after some more chats with your IRL friend.

Might wanna relook who the OP is.
I meant the OP of that thread, who is of course distinct from the OP of this thread.

I am distinct from the op of any thread. Indubitably.
5535  Economy / Marketplace / Re: DO NOT USE KALYHOST on: January 22, 2012, 06:46:45 AM
I almost used kalyhost, but in the end decided for cinfu. No problems so far.

+1 -1

I only use Cinfu for domain registrations and their support is instant and awesome.

When I had a VPS with them (back when I was running BIT-FU) it was slow as dog shit. No clue if that has changed or not.

Agreed.

Let me see if I follow correctly:

0.0025BTC per post,

10 posts per day limit,

$0.015 cents per post at current rate,

$0.15 cents a day maximum,

Over a month you can make $4.50?

5538  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto X Change - No More Wire Costs - Deposit & Withdraw any Currency $5 Now! on: January 22, 2012, 06:20:05 AM
I wasn't aware you could swallow the fee I'd incur at my bank when receiving money as well. That's pretty revolutionary to me.

Hi Matt,

This is what we have been trying to explain to the community and why Crypto X Change is different and would be usage so much more!

As say you withdraw from Either our USD or AUD market to any bank in the world it costs you $5. So yes if you withdraw $100, you will receive $95 also converted to your local currency.

People have always just said, oh just another Exchange, but we have many benefits like the way our automated banking system works.

Thank you for clearing that up also, much appreciated guys!

Regards

Crypto X Change

Indubitably.
5539  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto X Change - No More Wire Costs - Deposit & Withdraw any Currency $5 Now! on: January 22, 2012, 06:12:52 AM
Two Scenarios:

1)  Let's say I have $100 total in a Chase account.  I send those $100 to Cryptoxchange.  I end up with $95 in my Cryptoexchange after all fees on both ends are taken into account?

2)  Let's say I have $100 total in a Cryptoxchange account.  I withdraw those $100 to my Chase account.  I end up with $95 in my Chase account after all fees on both ends are taken into account?

Does Cryptoxchange eliminate the fees that my bank would normally charge me for initiating a wire transfer?

Reply:

Sorry - this is very simple, sometimes people can get confused due to traditional banking charges & fees

We have arrangement's with our payment / banking partners, so that no matter where money is sent from around the world or we send money out (Withdraw) the fee is $5 Flat No Matter where you are located, as long as it is included in our 25 Supported Inbound Currencies and Our 120 Outbound Currencies.

So we eliminate all the traditional wire fee's etc. So yes $5 flat fee.

Thank You

Regards

Crypto X Change

Although I love to troll, in this particular instance I'm trying to help, so let's simplify it even moreso.

Your bank => Cryptoxchange = $5 fee

Cryptoxchange => Your bank = $5 fee
