you can't really lose anything if you backup your .bin.keys
32 and 64bit are different keys... not same - just tested on 64-bit Windows - can't load wallet. The obvious answers here are: 1. Set up 64bit wallet, transfer coins. 2. Use deterministic wallet, wait for seed fixes in binaries, restore from seed on 64bit system. BACKUP AND ENCRYPT EVERYTHING ALONG THE WAY |

Well if it weren't for the withdrawal fee I'd be fine with BTER, but I have done business with both poloniex and mintpal. Smooth and easy in both cases. I forgot... BTER is currently awarding a 1% deposit bonus. This effectively removes the withdrawal fee, but only when you DEPOSIT XMR first. |

also, and PLEASE don't interpret as FUD, but looking at the bigger picture / lifetime chart of xmr, it doesn't seem insane to imagine it could decline some more. all the "alt" coins seem to do the long slow "death" after initial spikes. it appears that xmr is currently about 300% higher than its low.
this thread is amazing and has convinced me to invest a bit in xmr. seems like a rare case of coin that might really have a future.
One caveat. Bter charges 1% on withdrawals. This is exorbitant unless dealing with very small amounts in my opinion. |

Things don't work that way. You buy the coin because it offers value. If you waste your energy on a futile manipulation, you have no power when it could make a difference. Instead buy because it is crazy cheap. Me, I hit my limit for the week with a buy at 0035. Next week I may want more. Excellent catch at .0035. I had to fight the urge to sell all the way down, but also bought a bit more at .0041. It's funny how irrational some of my kneejerk reactions are. It is fortunate I was able to make a decent (i think) buy. |

Perhaps I am too new to the altcoin universe but the level of actual FUD recently is fascinating to me. There seems to be a few folks intent on damaging this projects reputation as much as possible and through some of the most outlandish means I could imagine. The twitter account was fairly left field for example.
Do other alts get similar attention?

Again, well said. I've *hated* litecoin since it came out for exactly these reasons. LTC supporters have never understood the economic ramifications of what they're doing or why litecoin should or shouldn't have value. Thankfully I think LTC's days in the sun are more clearly numbered than ever, and a rational coin ecosystem is getting closer. The #2 coin *should* have meaningful functional differentiation from bitcoin.
One of the beautiful things about Cryptonote is the feature it offers is one Bitcoin should never offer, and the two ledgers will have distinct and complimentary uses. The are not competitors per say but compliments. Litecoin was touted as "silver to Bitcoin's gold" A relationship which makes sense if you are talking about the metals, but not when you are talking about digital money. Cryptonote is "night to Bitcoin's day". And this is a relationship which is not only possible in cryptocurrency, but arguably imperative. Now the race is on for which CN coin is the leader. Most of my money is on XMR. but to be honest I am glad there is competition, and I hope the devs can pull this thing off. |

So, I've just done some math and I pray to the moon god that I'm not missing something massively important...
but a week or two ago, I mined XMR for ~4 days in a pool at about ~100khs (quite a bit of fluctuation, actually) and I apparently made ~4 XMR.
I was thinking about buying a 5mhz scrypt miner tomorrow. If I had used a 5mhz miner for those 4 days instead, the math tells me I would have made ~400 XMR...
..the miner would have paid for itself, plus another couple hundred dollars.
Am I dreaming.
Someone explain what I'm missing. I only got into crypto a month ago.
Scrypt miners will not work with cryptonote afaik. |

Are we sure we haven't seen it already? Monero isn't even on Mintpal yet, idiot. It's #1 on voting list, #1's get added every Monday, today is Wednesday. That means Monero is going to get added Next Monday, idiot. I'm pretty sure he is trying to say that since the market expect XMR to be added to mintpal the market will already have priced this in, thus there won't be further spike than we have seen, in fact the price may decline since the expected pump fails to emerge. I personally think we'll see a spike higher than we seen last few days since adding it to mintpal will expose more people to monero. I get what he's trying to say, and it doesn't make any sense. That's not how markets work. Poloniex/Bittrex are very small exchanges compared to Mintpal. After Poloniex's recent hacking, I'm sure many many users Do not user Poloniex now, and I've only heard of Bittrex about a week ago.. Mintpal has a huge user base, making it very unlikely that the recent rise in price was factored in because Monero might get added to Mintpal...Learn marketing cAPSLOCK..It only went up because of the small Poloniex userbase that is holding/buying Monero. Wait until Monero is on Mintpal, with a MUCH bigger userbase.. I didn't like being called an idiot back then very much... but I knew then as I do now who the idiot is. Buying back in now. Devs... please keep on truckin. |
