I did want to urge you to not hook your channels up to the major nodes forming up; sleepyarc, spock, #reckless, etc but to small nodes.  If it is truly going to be a mesh and not a hub and spoke it is up to all of us to manifest it that way.

It seems you are a bit more up on LN things than I am. I heard about an "autopilot" mode. I figure that's good enough to start ?

I believe the defaults are indeed set up to hook you to smaller nodes, yes.  Not sure I'm more up on it...just read some superficial stuff.
5523  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory on windows just does not sync on: January 27, 2018, 08:31:57 PM
I would try;

unchecking the box that tells Armory to run bitcoin core under file/settings and saving that setting

close Armory

task manager kill ArmoryDB.exe if it is still running

delete \Armory\databases folder

start Bitcoin Core and let it sync fully

Leave Bitcoin core running and launch Armory

wait patiently

What is your timeline for getting the LN node up Bob?

By next weekend, with any luck. Hard drives arrived today. Expecting the server and RAM to arrive on Monday. End of second week in February at the latest before I'm live on mainnet.

right on, looking forward to hearing about that

Remember that your coins don't "live" in your computers.  Your systems are just an interface that allows you to interact with them.  Your coins exist on the ledger and as long as you do not lose or expose your private keys your coins are perfectly safe.

>if you have not already, MAKE A PAPER BACKUP with your old system, as long as you have this there is nothing you can do with your computers short of exposing your private keys to the internet that can imperil your coins.

>be GODDAMN careful with those private keys, do not have them on a USB fob you are plugging into online systems, do not use a networked printer to make your paper backup.

I have certainly fallen into the trap of assuming Armory was hung and killing processes prematurely.

It is difficult because sometimes it DOES hang and then you are sitting there for hours not knowing what is going on.

It is certainly not my place to suggest adding anything to goatpigs plate, and I do not know what the investment or pitfalls might be, but perhaps a little more monitoring in the GUI where users were reassured that something is indeed happening might reduce the workload here.

Perhaps a one line text window in the GUI that would scroll the log file as it was written, but I am, of course, talking out my ass as I have no idea what that would entail.

As a ginger, the spectacle of people arguing about the RELATIVE melanin content of their epidermis has always stood out as patently absurd.

One thing that I haven’t fully understood with BTC price fluctuations I am hoping someone might have some theories on.

So the price of BTC against the dollar seems to fluctuate during these climbs and dips by percentages of quite a large magnitude (sometimes greater than 50%!).
Would it be correct to assume that during its earlier periods it would have been easier to manipulate the price due to the fact that
A: fewer players were in the game and would have owned larger amounts of BTC and
B: the dollar price was lower making it easier to buy larger amounts of BTC.?

Now with further distribution of BTC can we not assume that more people have smaller stashes (BLB aside!)?
Shouldn’t this make larger dumps less frequent?
Also large buys are a lot harder since it would require much larger sums of dollars to move the price up?

Yet we still see massive swings in the price. Can someone tell me why/how?

I think the price stagnation and low TX activity means that there are no more coins for sale at this price.  The weak hands are gone.  It is just us here now.  Everybody knows it is going back up at some point, the only question is when.

It's like we are in this Mexican standoff with Wall St. and everybody is like...WELL??

A question for my esteemed colleagues. Is there a relationship between men pool size and price? If yes, is mempool a leading or trailing indicator of price?

I really fail to see why they would correlate.

I think the collapse in the mempool can be attributed to the "mystery" spammers giving up (as it has become increasingly obvious that no flippening will be forthcoming), Coinbase finally, belatedly, being shamed into batching and increased segwit adoption.

I am happy to be shown to be wrong.

I think it is juuuuust a bit premature to call the mesh topology a done deal.  I hate Ver as much as the next guy, but a few enthusiast nerds testing doesn't really prove anything.

It is not going to surprise me one little bit if, in the future, I want to transact with, say, Digikey that will entail using my channel with Amazon, who has a channel with, say, McMaster Carr, who has a channel with Digikey.  Centralization of major LN nodes is a real danger that we need to be vigilant about.
