Should be working now - thanks for the report!

That's a pretty smokin deal! Tempted to get one to replace two of my 5830's...

Instead of not communicating, don't you guys think it's not better to work towards some sort of solution that gives us at least a few bitcoins in return ?
It's clear that Tawsix doesn't want to answer questions about the hardware.
I see everbody liquidating their hardware because of high energy versus low btc prices, this problem can be solved with fpga's, so why wait ?
No, I don't think it's better to give in to a scammer than to fight him. Yeah I must agree, it's a great fight, Tawsix ignoring us and we keep on asking te same question. But why not have it both ? You keep asking for the list and we liquidate half of the rigs (6) to buy some fgpa's ? I find it strange that you choose for 100% loss instead of getting something out of this. Shakaru is working on putting together a lawsuit. Even if Tawsix did buy "FPGA's" out of pocket, whose to say he will tell us how many, or what model? Or that he would actually buy them? Why in the world would you still trust this guy to do anything he says he will do?? He would probably find 1 GH/s to rent, take half the BTC for "electricity", tell us that he bought 5 FPGA's, and continue to keep our original investment money.

Well, I ran it overnight, and came back to a gray screen of death. What settings should I change?
I was happy that I was getting about 30 mh/s more on my 5870 than I was with guiminer, but obviously that point is moot if it locks up periodically. The card isn't overclocked, but this particular case isn't very well ventilated. Maybe the extra mhs caused a bit more stress on the card and a bit more heat, enough to the point where it locked up? It was at 87.5c when I left it last night...
87.5C seems very high. My two 5850 run below 70C at around 42 to 49% fan speed. Try to downclock the memory to 300 MHz. What intensity did u run ? Yeah, it is pretty high. I can't run lower memory, as I also game on the machine. Anyway, maybe I'll just stick with guiminer on that machine since it works and I know it's stable. Does the automatic temperature cutoff only work above 85 degree C and will it also work if you don't use cgminers fan and overclock settings ?
The thermal cutoff function kicks in at whatever temp you set. If you don't set anything, it defaults to 95 Celsius. The 85 Celsius threshold is (by default) when the fan gets cranked up to 100%. Thanks for the info.

Are they serious?
"Digging your own grave" might really become the saying of the times, eh?
Edit: oh wow, they actually intend to do that? The stupidity of mankind never ceases to amaze me. I wonder, am I the only one not from the 1% who increasingly sides with them? Just striking a path back to stone age is no solution to the world's problems!
You aren't the only one. In fact, it's interesting - I follow a couple of local news stations on Facebook. Despite living in a VERY liberal city, whenever a post is made with regards to the "Occupy" movement, the vast majority of people come out and say that the people need to go home, they aren't helping anything, they're creating an ugly mess, etc etc. Every once in a while, someone chimes in in defense of the occupiers, but for the most part, people seem to be vehemently against the movement. I was glad to see that, even in a liberal city, most people still have their heads mostly set on straight.

Your boards are too dangerous for average customer use. No, they aren't. Those posts start looking like FUD. I understand that you are upset because of your loss, but we see that other people agree about good enough board design. Excuse me, but not FUD, only facts. The design has no protection (fact), and will burn with any overvoltage (fact). Customers must be warned, as I was not. People like this are the reason that coffee cups have a "WARNING: HOT" label on them.

45 tons is like half a backyard swimming pool worth. Not a huge amount compared to what has already been leaked.

People are selling these for $70 or $80 here on this forum. I'd suggest a price drop.

I used to be pro-nuclear, but this is starting to scare the crap out of me.
You do know that the Fukushima plant was built 4 decades ago, right? Also there's many kinds of nuclear power, I suggest you look into liquid fluoride thorium reactors before dismissing all nuclear power as dangerous. Yes, and yes. Still scares the crap out of me, because even though Fukushima was built 4 decades ago, we still have many plants in operation just as old. And some of those plants are located in the Great Plains where we don't ever have worry about them becoming flooded. Could still have an earthquake large enough to take out the the backup generators or disrupt the water supply. No place is 100% safe against mother nature.

Meh, for the average idiot, what AVG is doing may not be so bad. If you knowingly installed cgminer, you will probably know its safe, if you dont know what it is, you are likely a victim of a trojan. That warning AVG gives is actually fairly accurate, its potentially an unwanted program users should be made aware off.
Well that's the thing - I'm not really in to trusting anything posted here. It's not that I'm an idiot, just that I've learned to be precautionary with anything and everything to do with people associated with Bitcoin. Just wanted some confirmation that it was just a false positive and ok to use though, so thanks to all!

"algo" has nothing to do with GPU mining. There is no algo option for GPU mining. There is a 'kernel' option however. The algo option is to specify what code is used when CPU mining.
Ok then. Can someone give me an example.conf made for GPU mining? Replace the ?? with your pool settings and you do not need this many pools you can have less so you can delete the sections you do not want like in second example where I show two pools. You will want to change the gpu-engine and gpu-memclock to match your card if oveclocking it or just delete them if not overclocking to use the default speeds of your card. The donation is setup to give 1% back to Con for his work on the cgminer if you wish to give less then use a .5 or something like that or if completely stingy delete the line entirely to give nothing. If you have more than the one card then add an extra 8 to the intensity line so it would look like "intensity" : "8,8", if three add another and so on for the amount of cards to use. { "pools" : [ { "url" : "?????", "user" : "?????", "pass" : "?????" }, { "url" : "?????", "user" : "?????", "pass" : "?????" }, { "url" : "?????", "user" : "?????", "pass" : "?????" }, { "url" : "?????", "user" : "?????", "pass" : "?????" }, { "url" : "?????", "user" : "?????", "pass" : "?????" } ],
"intensity" : "8", "gpu-engine" : "0-925", "gpu-memclock" : "1200", "gpu-threads" : "2", "log" : "5", "queue" : "1", "retry-pause" : "5", "scan-time" : "60",
"donation" : "1", "shares" : "0", "kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin" }
{ "pools" : [ { "url" : "?????", "user" : "?????", "pass" : "?????" }, { "url" : "?????", "user" : "?????", "pass" : "?????" } ],
"intensity" : "8", "gpu-engine" : "0-925", "gpu-memclock" : "1200", "gpu-threads" : "2", "log" : "5", "queue" : "1", "retry-pause" : "5", "scan-time" : "60",
"donation" : "1", "shares" : "0", "kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin" }
Edit: and the stupid you see above is three question marks. Thanks, that appears to have worked, but:

I am attempting to run the Windows binary. I have changed the example.conf to include my pool username/password, and changed the hash method to "auto". When it is benchmarking, some of the methods fail, and the others bench between 0.8 and 1.4 MH/s, so it's only using the CPU. What do I need to change or add to the .conf file to make it detect my GPU (5870)? Running Windows 7 x64 with 11.1 drivers (I believe), and guiminer runs fine.
The "auto" hashing method only applies to CPU-based hashing. Once you get GPU mining to work, it won't have any effect at all. Anyway, once you made sure appropriate OpenCL stuff is installed for your card, if it still doesn't work you may want to post your settings since otherwise all we can do is guess blindly at what you're trying to do... Hmmm... ok, I'm just having really odd errors. If I use "algo" : "sse2_64", I get "Unknown algorithm" when trying to run it. If I use "algo" : "4way", I get "Invalid value passed to set_gpu_vddc". If I use "algo" : "via", I get the Invalid set_gpu_vddc error again. If I use "algo" : "sse4_64", I get unknown algorithm again. If I use "algo" : "cryptopp", I get the invalid set_gpu_vddc error again. What's going on? I've double checked and am using 11.9 drivers, with the SDK and everything installed.

Ok, so I've been using the guiminer that was released back near the end of may on my miners. Frankly, I haven't bothered to update to anything else because it worked so well, while still allowing me to use the computers without any hiccups. With guiminer, I can set it at f=60, and still be able to play BF3 while the miner is running no problem.
My question is, is there anything better that runs in the background and doesn't interrupt stuff like gaming? Also, is the newer guiminer any faster, or does it just have more features?

How can anyone really know though? Do they have sensors below the concrete? Nope. And steam coming up through fissures in the ground is rather telling... as least, it seems to be. They (TEPCO and the Japanese government) have already hidden so much from us, why would they bother telling the truth now? With regards to this situation, they've always put out "news" that equates to the most optimistic lie that is still believable. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but there's been too many lies for me to take anyone's word for what is happening right now.
