So if I needed some planned downtime and I didn't want to mess up my shares, how would I best choose when to shut down the miner?

Mini rally...

Yawn.
5544  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 08, 2013, 08:34:23 PM
I think we're just moving through the eye of the storm.
5545  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 08, 2013, 08:02:00 PM
So, after a highly obnoxious and unnecessary delay it looks like we are back to where we were this morning.  About 12k BTC until 200.

10K BTC to $200, we're hitting that tonight for sure (probably while I'm asleep, grrrrr...)

Set an alert.
5546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Please help! My wallets are trapped on a corrupt HDD! on: April 08, 2013, 07:47:14 PM
How many bitcoins? If it's not many, just put the drive to one side and wait until it's worth recovering. If it's a lot, you probably want to go ahead and pay someone (but you would have had a backup in that case anyway, right?)
5547  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 08, 2013, 07:34:57 PM

I'm no GOX fan. I'd like to see a legitimate(!) bank or forex trading site start a BitCoin exchange. At least you know those people have some experience with financial systems.

They often get it very, very wrong also.
5548  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 08, 2013, 07:24:12 PM
I think it's about time we stopped calling it the "dead cat bounce"

5549  Economy / Goods / Re: [SALE]: order Casascius 1 BTC Coins for BTC 1.60 incl. worldwide shipping on: April 08, 2013, 07:20:43 PM
So I looked for the capsules. For the price of 10 on ebay (with free shipping), it probably wouldn't even be worth me trying to resell one after shipping & all. The coins are 1.125" which is a hair under 29mm. You can get a 29mm ring but I think I might go for a 30mm direct fit and not worry that it'll probably rattle a bit.

Wrong "up", people  Angry
5551  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CASASCIUS PHYSICAL BITCOIN - In Stock Now! (pic) on: April 08, 2013, 05:29:08 PM
Can you please post pictures of the new coin?

Can we have the next one be Web 2.0 compliant? That is, square with rounded corners and gradiated shading...
5552  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 08, 2013, 05:26:49 PM
Just bought some more. Let's head on up!
5553  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 08, 2013, 04:56:06 PM
Bitcoinity roller coaster!

Haha. Perfect. Just what I was thinking of.
5554  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 08, 2013, 04:34:48 PM
A roller-coaster's no fun if it only goes up...
5555  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 08, 2013, 04:43:29 AM
It appears my current problems may have an answer here:

http://www.terracointalk.org/index.php/topic,3.msg275.html#msg275

Getting too late in the night to set up cgminer though. I'll have to play tomorrow.

Edit: Ah, who needs sleep? cgminer installed and graphs are doing something. Yaysome!

Edit2: OK, now to figure out how to get it running under cygwin. Gives "redirection is not allowed". Not a show-stopper but I like to be able to ssh in.
5556  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 07, 2013, 10:33:13 PM
Still getting 0H/s even with the -a removed. The output from my miner doesn't look right though. I don't know if that's just a p2pool thing though. Any ideas?

My miners are using the noob/sauce user & password but I did use the -a option to set the address to my bitcoinspinner wallet.
bitcoinspinner? do you know if that wallet can receive generated coin? you should confirm that before you mine to that wallet.

-- Smoov

I had no idea that one could not. I will try without setting the address later and see if that helps any.
5558  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 07, 2013, 06:51:03 PM
I think I'm mining. My miners look like they are mining. Fans are spinning high and the room is getting warm. Yet the top graph is flat at zero even on the hour view. Is this supposed to be the case?

Local rate on main page also says 0. What is happening to the MH/s that my miners are claiming?

If your miners have a Bitcoin address username, this will happen. Those graphs and numbers are for the main address, which defaults to one requested from bitcoind and can be set with the -a option on P2Pool. Letting P2Pool manage the payout address is the recommended course.

However, your local rate and current payout should show up under the "Miners" header on the graphs page.

My miners are using the noob/sauce user & password but I did use the -a option to set the address to my bitcoinspinner wallet.

Well, in a case of "when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth", I turned off QOS on my router (Tomato based) and though it's still now downloading shares, the output now gives me a lot more confidence. Odd as though it wasn't in the top tier, it should still have had plenty of bandwidth. Oh well. Hope to be mining in the pool asap. I'll get around to debugging the QOS when I can.

Edit: now mining. Yay!
