5561  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Paradox of Gambling behavior on: April 23, 2022, 06:50:39 PM
Most gamblers have an addiction they don't even realize they have. It seems to them that they can give up gambling very easily, but in fact it is not so since their mogul is used to receive incentives when they win.
That's because people believe that admitting they have a problem or a disease is a sign of weakness. But it isn't. In a moment of weakness, you became addicted. That's not good. But it's worse lying about it and not being willing to accept that situation and show a desire to change.

One thing that you can hear is that gambling addicts will try to tell you how they are not addicted, they are just playing because they like it and they can stop anytime. The thing is, that time never seems to come...
5562  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Features - Less is More on: April 23, 2022, 06:36:25 PM
To answer your question: Just as an example... Maybe a future (or present) feature can be used to activate the (built-in Wifi) network adapter of my device which I carefully disabled? Maybe it works as a trigger for other software or even OS components to start the network adapter? We will not know it until the day it actually happens. That's what they call vulnerabilities/exploits.
That's the problem and the point I am trying to make. You are not supposed to have network adapters and WIFI cards present in your airgapped system. They should be physically removed. If they aren't there, a bug, vulnerability, or malware can't activate something that doesn't exist. That's why I said properly airgapped device.

Unfortunately, we are going back to your security model again. If your security model mitigates most attack vectors, you don't need to worry what is going on with the code in the features you aren't using.
5563  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Have you ever tried to live only on Bitcoin? on: April 23, 2022, 06:27:26 PM
It is almost impossible in some countries
It's almost impossible in all countries, not just some. If you took away aids like debit cards and payment processors that convert your cryptocurrencies into fiat, you would be left with very few things that you can do with your crypto. Most of it would be private transactions where one person acquires certain goods or services from another person. Almost no merchants or shops that accept crypto keep those assets. They turn it into fiat instantly.
5564  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Paradox of Gambling behavior on: April 23, 2022, 09:20:57 AM
Gamblers are well aware that their chances of walking away with more money than what they had when they came are slim, but they still believe they have what it takes to be the person that walks home rich. They are driven by stories of how other gamblers succeeded, but such stories are rare. They consciously decide to not pay attention to failures, even personal ones.

Gambling on sports is always better than playing casino games in my opinion. Sports is not just luck, you also need knowledge and maybe some insider information.
5565  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S - Personal Learnings & Review on: April 23, 2022, 08:55:50 AM
<Snip>
Oh, I see. I am not that interested in Ethereum, so I have never even checked what derivation paths are standard for that coin. But such a thing can be easily found out if needed. Anyways, since we are in the Bitcoin sub, maybe it's better to actually focus on Bitcoin when talking about derivation paths as well.
5566  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Multisig wallet on Electrum on: April 23, 2022, 08:42:49 AM
However do we really need that many cosigners for a multi-sig wallet. Possibly few will mess the whole then and ruin the original goal of creating that multi-sig wallet.
The more people you get involved, the greater the chances that someone will destroy the entire system. But in theory, that can also happen in a 2-of-2 or 3-of-3 setup if one of the parties is being negligent.

I think pooya87's response to this is spot on. If you need such a high level of security and a system with 15 cosigners, having them sign and approve the transactions via their phone isn't the best idea.
5567  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Features - Less is More on: April 23, 2022, 08:33:11 AM
As you said in your post.... loads of features increase attack vectors for more exploits and that is not what we want. Now you have a feature rich wallet with a lot of holes and weak security.
I would agree with you if Electrum had a history of people taking advantage of various bugs and vulnerabilities that weren't fixed and tested thoroughly before they got rolled out as new features. But I don't remember such incidents that caused serious problems. Maybe someone can refresh my mind?

Just because there weren't any in the past, doesn't mean there won't be any in the future. It's better to be safe than sorry. However, this is still a suggestion to fix something that isn't broken in the first place.
5568  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S - Personal Learnings & Review on: April 23, 2022, 07:57:51 AM
When I lost my Ledger, I was still a lot relieved because I knew I have the 24 words stored safely. That's the benefit of it. You can store physical card, plus have its photo clicked and stored on device, drive etc where only you have the access to.
No. No plus. Don't do that ever. There is no reason to store the seed digitally in any shape or form. If you have multiple physical copies of your mnemonic, there isn't even a reason to do something like that.

Hardware wallet is very easy to set. First of all if you will have to download and install "Ledger Live" from the official site.
Before installing, you can do another thing. You can verify the signatures and the installation binary. I wrote a thread about that a while back > How To Verify the Downloaded Version of Ledger Live.

This window will pop up as soon as you connect your Ledger Hardware with the USP and desktop/laptop.
There is a small typo here. It should say USB, not USP.

Since we are on Ledger topic, the software that is Ledger Live uses standard derivation path that is m/44'/60'/0'
Are you sure this is correct? Shouldn't it be m/44'/00'/0'?

Is this information that the Nano S will no longer be supported by Ledger confirmed or based on your assumptions?
The production will stop. That's been confirmed by Ledger. dkbit98 believes they will stop supporting it also. It could happen after some time because they have already done that with some of their older HWs.

Does anyone sees Nano S storage space as big concern while using the new Ledger Live?
I don't see what the fuss is all about. The internal storage space is limited, there is no way around that. People don't seem to mind going through the hassle to set up and use an airgapped system properly, but they lose their mind if they have to uninstall one app in order to install a different one. It is also worth knowing that centralized exchanges like Binance do not guarantee safety and return of the money you are keeping with them. They will always give you all kinds of fake assurances but in reality they can choose to not pay you in case they were hacked and lost your money. You had also agreed to thtose terms when you signed up!
When we are talking about Binance, the past hacking incidents have proven that this exchange is the best place where you can get hacked. It seems very weird saying that without further explanation. When Cryptopia was hacked, that was it, they were done. Binance was hacked a few years ago and their customers lost over 7.000 BTC, worth $40 million at the time. Those losses were refunded to the affected users and Binance is still going strong and belongs to the top #3 CEXes in the world.
5570  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Hardware wallet vs software wallet for daily transaction on: April 23, 2022, 07:16:06 AM
is there a way to know your iphone is safe from any malware or virus first before you even create a wallet on your iphone?
Follow the same logic and safety precautions as you would on a computer. Don't visit bogus and unknown websites, don't open attachments and emails from strangers, and don't download and install non-essential software and games just to try them out or for fun. Use common sense, be smart about what you are doing, and you will be safe.
5571  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Coinbase Wallet on: April 23, 2022, 07:07:49 AM
Is it open source because I couldn't find any source code (although I only looked a little). If you can't see the source code and can not compile it yourself then you should avoid such wallets and stick to other wallets that are open source such as Electrum.
The wallet is non-custodial but closed-source. Neither their iOS app nor the one for Android can be compiled and verified. This should be their GitHub page. The team from Wallet Scrutiny wasn't able to rebuild the app from source. Some code snippets are apparently provided, but it's incomplete.
5572  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: LTC CASINO NOT paying winnings . 1496 Ltc to be paid on: April 23, 2022, 06:56:44 AM
Someone in Pm has told me they open a new casino and they posted the link again here in BT but i am not sure if is true, I need to investigate a bit.
Rinse and repeat I guess. Why does that person believe it's the same people that operate both casinos?

Meantime the game provider has gone silence too.
There isn't really much they can say. They aren't allowed to share any private data without breaking non-disclosure agreements. They came to clear their name because the casino accused them of having bugs in their slots and colluding to cheat.

Also want to say hats off to Wazden, I don't think most providers would give enough of a shit to even respond to a player (Obviously that's what LTCCasino was hoping would happen).
Had LTC Casino not started accusing Wazdan of wrongdoings and questioned the integrity of their games, the provider would probably not have responded since it's an issue between a player and a casino and it has nothing to do with them. Scammers learn and adapt. For their next scam, they won't take it that far as to accuse someone else, besides the player obviously.
5573  Economy / Gambling / Re: Pmalek’s Collection of The Best Gambling Threads and Discussions on: April 23, 2022, 06:44:59 AM
All those days my favorite threads were EPL pool thread, CL thead and some others threads from sportsbet. But it seems I really never looked into some worthy discussion topics in the section.
The threads you mentioned are significantly different content-wise from what you can find suggested in this table. Those pool threads contain discussions and good posts that span across dozens of forum pages. On the other hand, every link you see in the OP will lead to a thread where the essential information can be found in the opening post. I haven't taken into consideration the quality of the posts written by other members in those threads.
5574  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Mail from activationxbt. Scam? on: April 22, 2022, 12:37:40 PM
Of course it's a scam. You can see it from the domain name - activationxbt.com. Blockchain wouldn't use a different domain name when sending out emails. In today's age, it's easier to consider all emails as scam until proven they aren't. Whenever someone asks you to deposit money or pay something to get a bigger amount, it's a sure sign of a scam. The email is also badly written by a non-English speaker and sound very unprofessional. Delete it and forget about it.
5575  Economy / Gambling / Re: Question for regular casino players. Will you use Lightning if available? on: April 22, 2022, 12:06:34 PM
I don't play and deposit regularly, so opening and maintaining a payment channel with a casino is not something that attracts me personally. But it is an excellent option for hardcore gamblers and those who make multiple deposits and withdrawals daily or weekly. Instead of using the mainchain and paying the regular fees every single time, you can save a great deal on fees if you only have to carry out two on-chain transactions a week instead of 10, for example.
5576  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Big Library of Bitcoin & Blockchain Online Courses on: April 22, 2022, 09:55:14 AM
Interesting collection.
Is this something you plan to update in the future by adding new courses or removing those that are no longer available or accepting new participants?

I think the "About the Course" columns of the table could have been wider. They seem to make the OP unnecessarily long the way they are structured right now. You also have a fourth column in the table that remains completely empty of any content. Selecting a different table layout would make it more visually attractive.

Keep up the good work!
5577  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why some promising newbies fail in the forum. on: April 22, 2022, 09:43:30 AM
Newbies who fail to reach higher ranks and become established members do so because they didn't come here for the right reasons. In the past, people would sign up on Bitcointalk because it was a great forum to discuss and learn about Bitcoin. Then you have the marketplace where you can engage in some trading with other members. There are local boards where you can talk with people from your own country who speak the same language. And there is an altcoin section to discuss alternative coins if you like. As you spend time here, mature and gain knowledge, you realize you can earn a bit by getting into a signature campaign. In the early days, you could earn nicely in bounty campaigns as well. Nothing wrong with that when you take it one step at a time.

The problem with newbies is that many are not interested in any of the things I said, except the part about bounty and signature campaigns. They want you to tell them what they have to do so that they can get into a signature campaign. That's where they meet resistance and start calling the world unfair. Anyone with a genuine interest in Bitcoin who is ready to take part in normal conversations, won't find difficulties on this forum. Some need more time than others, but that's normal and that's the way of life.
5578  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: spend twice more Bitcoins while waiting the block to be verified? on: April 22, 2022, 09:19:38 AM
Let's consider a transaction which is included in Block A, but not in Block B. Such a transaction, since it is not present in Block B, will instead be present in the mempool of the nodes which have accepted Block B. Now, if Block A+1 is the next block found, then the transaction (which is included in Block A), now has 2 confirmations.
That makes sense, not much to add there. A new block was added on top of the one where your transaction was mined, and that increases your confirmations by 1.

If Block B+1 is the next block found, then there is a high likelihood that this transaction which was not included in Block B will now instead be included in Block B+1. In the case, the transaction has 1 confirmation.
In this scenario, this would only happen if the network conditions haven't changed drastically between blocks B and B+1. If the mempools got filled with other transactions paying higher fees, that would be a reason it wouldn't be included in block B+1 and instead remain unconfirmed. The same thing is true if there is a longer waiting period between blocks B and B+1 and not all unconfirmed transactions can fit in the next block. Again, it's a question of if miners have the financial incentive to pick your transaction. Nevertheless, that doesn't affect its validity.
5579  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: LTC CASINO NOT paying winnings . 1496 Ltc to be paid on: April 22, 2022, 08:57:37 AM
@bambolina
What is going on with the Casino Guru thread? There have been numerous posts both by LTC Casino and yourself, but everything is still waiting to be approved and it's been like that for about a week. Usually they are quicker with allowing the posts to become public.
5580  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you Still Supporting And Playing On Newly Launch Casinos on: April 21, 2022, 07:43:51 PM
I don't. I can't remember the last time I tried out a new casino. I stick to what I know to be safe and where I have been playing for several years. Irregularly, but still. It's enough that I gamble and risk my money. I don't need to take additional risks depositing to new casino accounts having who knows what ulterior motives. People who do that are lured by special offers, promotions, and things like welcome bonuses. If you don't care about that, there are few reasons to change.
