5561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New Bitcoin ATM map on: March 01, 2020, 04:32:50 PM
I'm building a brand new Bitcoin ATM map and maintaining the integrity of the information available with BTMs.
Many pop up overnight and then disappear months later. It's a tough task to map all of them but I've started with all the currently known and operating.

I'd love some feedback and help with maintaining this database if possible.
https://www.bitrawr.com/bitcoin-atms

I am not using Bitcoin ATMs because of the fees, a personal feeling on unsafety and being afraid of malfunctioning, but I think that they should exist if Bitcoin is to stay for a while. Op, I hope you're aware that such websites sort of exist already, right? CoinATMRadar is a good example, and I can see that it's been mentioned by other people already. Moreover, your website shows that there aren't any ATMs in my country, for instance, whereas there actually are a couple in my city. There are also quite a few in Hungary, whereas your map doesn't show them either. Good luck with the project, just remember about competitors!
5562  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: GIVEAWAY Betbitcoin 24/7 on: March 01, 2020, 04:14:29 PM
So it's another classical crash game website, isn't it? I like the game, but if you want to compete with solid casinos, you should offer more than a bonus and a typical game. Why would people choose your website rather than a reputable, famous and original bustabit that offered the game for the first time as far as I know? Anyway, I tried to sign up, I entered a username, email, and password, but then there was this 'thank-you.php' webpage or something without anything actually saying 'thank you or logging me in'. I tried to log in then, and it turns out that apparently it did memorize my entered data, but it's still buggy. And there 'index.php', 'thank-you.php' things don't look too professional, to be honest. I wrote 'bitcointalk' in the chat, so in case I receive the bonus, I'll try to play.
Thank you for the important note, we really appreciate it.
On the near future, we plan to add more games and expand the gaming options on our site.
We’ve checked your notes and fixed it.
You’re invited to enjoy your welcome bonus and our crash game Smiley
Thanks! I received something and tried to play with it. The minimum bet is 250 (of whatever token that represents the amount of BTC, it would be useful to see it specified), and I could bet 3 or 4 times on the welcome bonus. I've never had such an unlucky few bets because during these 3-4 bets it did not go above not a single time. Moreover, it crashed literally at 1.00 once and at around 1.13 or something another time. I know that it's possible but how likely is it?
Anyway, I think it would be useful to see the balance displayed on the playing page all the time somewhere in the corner and updated instantly when money is taken for the bets or returned when a person wins. Edit: oh, now I see the '0 bits' sign, so I guess I was just inattentive when I could not find it during the game.
I'm wondering whether the game is provably fair and, if not, whether you are considering making it provably fair.
5563  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Know what games have the best odds. on: March 01, 2020, 12:19:18 PM
How about those kind of gambling that has two choices only?
Like gambling of toss coin, either heads or tails, NBA games, or dice game with 50% win probability you set it. And also recently I am playing; online cockfighting.
TCan you consider these also a 50% winning odds?
Right, Most of the games who have only 2 parties playing have a 50% odds on both, But sometimes sports games like NBA I think the odds are not equaled if we base on team members and the people who bet on each party. On games like toss game on a PVP platform surely has a 50% winning chance because the system doesn't base its odds to the player's skill, It's mere luck to win that kind of game since both parties have the same odds that a PVP platform fairly gave.
Technically, I believe it's usually not 50% but something close to it because there's around 1% house edge. And it might seem like a minor thing, but if we're talking about 50/50 dice it means that instead of being around zero probabilistically (if you always get the same amount), you're actually losing in the long run.
As for odds, I think it's a tricky topic. If the game is simulated, we know that the odds are pure. If, however, it's something like sports betting, it seems to me that eventually the customer bets define the odds, so they are based on the bets people make, rather than on pure mathematical calculations. Actually, I believe that when betting on real events, it's impossible to know the odds of winning the same way you know them in a simulated dice game.

So it's been months but you're still working, right? I don't leave and Thailand and tend to use public transport, but I think it's good that you allow people to pay with Bitcoin. Could you share your experience with us? How many of your cars rides occur per day or month? Are your prices typical market prices in the area or are they higher? Has anyone used the crypto option yet? If paying in crypto worth the same as fiat, less than in fiat or more than in fiat?
It's just really interesting how crypto adoption works or doesn't work for local businesses.
And if you haven't done it yet, try sharing your service in Local Boards on this forum.
5565  Economy / Gambling / Re: Crypto Poker (BIP) on: February 29, 2020, 12:27:01 PM
I think it's cool that you decided to make a poker website because there aren't many good places to play it. Unfortunately, I couldn't access the website, so I don't know whether it's fine or not. You said in a post that it's optimized for smartphones, but it didn't open on mine. The webpage had exclamation point at the end, end the only thing I could see in the screen is a rotated smartphone. I tried rotating mine but it didn't help no matter in which position I put it.. I think you should fix that, and adding an option to gamble directly with BTC seems like a must to me, so it's good that you're at least testing instant exchange stuff.
5566  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What's the cheapest way to pay and receive BTC in my local business? on: February 29, 2020, 12:17:46 PM
Hey guys, I have an idea for a local business, and I'm planning about payments right now

Can you guys share some ideas, apps, or ways with me?

I'll need to receive in BTC (if possible, altcoins too, but mainly BTC) and pay in BTC

The main goal is the transaction have to be very cheap to make people pays in cryptos

Thanks  Wink
The easiest way would be to leave a Bitcoin address for people to send you money, and to send money to particular addresses. But yeah, it means no payment gateway, and it would look sort of unprofessional and untrustworthy.
The cheapest transactions come with the Lighting Network. If the amounts of money will usually be below $50, you should consider implementing it. It can be tricky, but not impossible, since Lightning pizza managed to do that. Maybe you can find useful info in their website. Other than that, Bitpay seems the most popular option to accept Bitcoin.
5567  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ways in which you can promote bitcoin. on: February 29, 2020, 12:02:43 PM
That is a great video and also in that way it can help to promote Bitcoin. Let me innumerate it here the list of what are those ways to promote Bitcoin that stated in your video.

  • Personal conversations through friends, colleagues, siblings and etc.
  • Holding/conducting a seminar
  • Writing articles such as blogs
  • Making memes, stickers and giphy
  • Making Videos

Yes, there are a lot of ways to promote Bitcoin but it doesn't mean they will easily learn with it. It will probably take time for them to understand very well how Bitcoin works. Explaining to people about Bitcoin without technical knowledge to understand how it will work is not easy for them to absorb in their minds.

I did two if these. I've made some memes and talked to my friends and relatives about Bitcoin. I don't know about the first one since Bitcoin memes don't strike me as something universal which people who aren't already into cryptos would get or even notice. As for talking, I managed to introduce Bitcoin to about five people that actually started using it because of me, but they are most likely not into that anymore...
I think that personal promotion cannot do much but the presence of Bitcoin in TV shows can make wide audience somewhat curious about it.
5568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to improve the usability of bitcoin? on: February 29, 2020, 11:57:23 AM
The current implementation is good enough imo. The rate of adoption might not be as fast as other tech but that's simply because there is much freedom in the crypto/bitcoin ecosystem. People need to learn to be their own bank, avoid stupid mistakes, etc which might be suitable only for those who are young or open-mined.

If we put the 10 year age into perspective, what we achieve so far is amazing. What started as a simple experiment has been used by some merchants and users to create their own economy, and that is great.

The spending culture or whatever you talked about will follow when there is enough clarity (either regulation, government stance tc) and exposure to new people, added with an increase of merchants accepting crypto/bitcoin. It will come sooner or later.
I am a fan of Bitcoin, and I think that it did achieve a lot, but that doesn't mean it's doing fine in terms of the spending culture or adoption. Only around 2% of the population use Bitcoin at all. At the current adoption rate, Bitcoin will take a couple if decades to catch up with top payment methods, if I am not mistaken. Moreover, I really don't think that most users of Bitcoin but goods/services with it. They gamble, trade or hold, but there options if spending Bitcoin as money are too limited. Not to mention that it's largely unrecognised, so any time one needs a proof of funds, BTC doesn't count.
5569  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you have an idea in percentage how big gambling industry's contribution? on: February 29, 2020, 10:06:16 AM
As what the thread title says, I like to know based on your opinion how big the contribution of the gambling industry to the entire market.
I have been a gambler for awhile now and I believe that with the contribution of our industry, it will only make the market stronger in the long run, and it's one of the reason why adoption is happening at a very good rate IMO.
Like tbterryboy, I am not sure I understand which market you mean. It could be about the percentage of people who use cryptos primarily for gambling, or the profits on the gambling industry in the world compared with some world economy figures... And is contribution about profits, prices, users or something else? I've found some data on gambling (including online gambling, although it's obviously not necessarily and probably mainly not crypto gambling) on this website but perhaps you meant something very different. Then I've seen articles on how cryptos have changed gambling, but, interestingly, not vice versa... I do believe, however, that crypto gambling is one of the main use cases of cryptocurrencies nowadays.
5570  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you tried explaining provable fairness to old-school gamblers? on: February 29, 2020, 09:57:06 AM
Do you have any experience trying to explain the virtues of provable fairness to your friends? To be honest, I don't have any other friends that gamble through commercial services so I don't have much experience. But I'd like to know if anyone else has achieved a change of faith with their friends.
The only friends into gambling I have are into online gambling already, so they're familiar with the concept and don't require an explanation. I think that online gambling is a much safer space than the traditional one, and only one of the reasons for that is provably fair gambling that means that unlike in physical casinos no cheating is possible here. Another reason is that you don't get to people who lose or win money (in person), so it allows avoiding face-to-face conflicts between the winner and the loser. Moreover, casinos are traditionally considered a place full of influential criminals, and mingling with those also doesn't sound like a good idea. I feel alright trying out various online casinos, but I would never even walk into a real one.

5572  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to improve the usability of bitcoin? on: February 28, 2020, 05:43:28 PM
There is a speculative (investment) presence in the current bitcoin discussion scene. Only known and used by a few people.

If bitcoin really wants to become a universal currency payment system, how can we optimize the design for ease of use and make it easy for most people to get started easily and with low risk?
I don't think that the main problems with Bitcoin are that people cannot get started easily or have a low risk. Bitcoin is quite user-friendly, IMO, there's nothing that hard in using it. Plus, there're multiple tutorials, safety tips, and stuff. As for the risk, it's not that high IMO, since Bitcoin has proved to grow over time. Plus, it's not like a crash game where something gets busted within a second and is worth zero. If people feel uncomfortable, they can sell anytime and not lose much. The main challenges I see are scalability, lack of trust from the authorities and the giant and powerful banking system.
5573  Economy / Exchanges / Re: A new virus is attacking Google 2FA app on: February 28, 2020, 04:46:53 PM
It seems 2FA authentification is not totally safe anymore.

A new malware called Cerberus now targets Android-based smartphones by stealing passwords provided by the Google Authenticator app, a new cyber-security report by ThreatFabric states.

As reported by the research group, Cerberus can do something that very few other Trojans are able to – mess with the Google Authenticator app and steal its one-time codes which are often used to secure access to Bitcoin wallets or accounts on digital exchanges.

Until now, this Google app was believed to be the best protection, much more efficient than SMS-based security codes.

https://u.today/bitcoin-btc-wallets-may-be-in-danger-as-new-trojan-compromises-google-2fa
https://www.threatfabric.com/blogs/2020_year_of_the_rat.html
Apparently, it's not totally safe for a variety of reasons. Honestly, I thought that it was a great method to protect my funds, but these days I am starting to rethink it. This malware is one thing, but there's also the infamous SIM Swapping of which you've probably heard, and it also compromises the 2FA. I guess we can never be completely safe, every method has its risks. For instance, in the case of super safety from the outer world, there's a danger of losing the essential info to open a wallet which to me seems even more realistic than getting hacked, to be honest.
5574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency vs. Fiat currency. on: February 28, 2020, 04:39:16 PM
Cryptocurrency vs. Fiat currency, which of the two do you think better? There so many differences between those two kinds of currency, but what currency do you prefer more, what currency suits your wants and needs,

First things first, let us define the two currencies. Cryptocurrency is all the money we have online, it is decentralized and global, it can be bitcoin, etheruem, litecoin, XRP, and many others. which is a currency that is volatile, which means it changes its price day by day, there is no static price to all of it, so it is outstanding in investing and trading in cryptocurrency and patience is what you only need here. While Fiat currencies are those physical currencies that you can touch and use to buy in real life, such as Pesos, dollars, etc. those are what we called the central government, which has a fixed price at all.
I like the idea of cryptocurrency, and I like having some of it. If there were truly an option to pay for stuff with Bitcoin and not overpay with the fees or anything, I would prefer Bitcoin over fiat. For now, however, Bitcoin is way behind fiat in terms of adoption, it has scalability and recognition issues. For example, I am going to need to apply for a visa in a few months, and I'll need to prove that I have some money to live abroad. For that, I need a bank statement. I have enough money in Bitcoin, but for it to count I have to sell it for fiat, I cannot provide a signed message to the Embassy. Such things are serious obstacles for me.
5575  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Story time! Lost coins & Regrets - Let's bring back a little bit of nostalgia. on: February 28, 2020, 04:16:42 PM
  1. How much BTC did you lose ever since you started using crypto? How did you lose it?
  2. What was the biggest BTC loss you've ever had?
  3. What do you regret the most ever since you started using cryptocurrencies?
1. I've never lost BTC. I've always used a trusted wallet, and I've never encountered any problems with it. I did lose 0.5 Ethereum, though, which back then cost $150, and it was quite a significant amount of money. I lost it to Ethereumwallet.net or something like that (I wasn't good with 'not your keys not your coins thing' back then, and the website was pretty popular).
2. Zero, since I haven't lost any.
3. I regret buying Ripple when it cost $3 per coin  Grin I did not spend much on that investment, though.
5576  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and the Black Americans on: February 27, 2020, 06:59:13 PM
now they are putting bitcoin in the fight for racism? This forum has thousands of users and I am sure that this forum has hundreds of members from different countries (including America) and must have white and black people. This means that there are thousands of black people who use bitcoin. Why are they promoting these kinds of things? I see a lot of white people who don't like bitcoin, it has nothing to do with being black or being white... it has to do with how each person understands what they hear and see
I somewhat agree with you. But thousands of black people does not prove that they're fine with using it. To make a statement such as the op's making, however, we need some nice representative professionally done polls. It might turn out that on average black people in the US ('cause we have to remember that cryptos have gained quite some success in African countries) are more prejudiced against Bitcoin and the reason for that might be that they received a more negative impact from the financial system (on average). These things need solid proofs to be taken seriously. But in any case, Bitcoin promotion to any groups of people is something to support, right?
5577  Economy / Gambling / Re: Crypto eSports betting on: February 27, 2020, 06:50:26 PM
Forum members - lets share some information

We all know and love the Crypto casinos which are available for more than 7 years now, also we know great sports betting, Dice, Lottery and Poker platforms where we can deposit with Crypto, wager and withdrawal, in some we can buy shares, tokens, reward points and more.

The next big market as we all know is ESPORTS

Lets share some intel and help each other, where are the best sources to learn about the eSports opportunities, biggest tournaments, betting bonuses and special events.

Bitcoin eSsports betting is the future and it will be much fun !!!

Thanks
Esports has gained huge popularity, while they are not such a strong part when it comes to sports betting. Some websites offer some options when some major tournaments are around, though. For instance, a reputable crypto sports betting website Sportsbet.io offers to bet on World of Warcraft, Counterstrike, and MTG. I am sure that if the demand grows, there'll be more offers. Some other websites also allow betting on such tournaments. I am not a fan of computer games, though, so I don't get these matches. I think it's good that gamers get an opportunity to gain something financially from all those hours they've spent to master their skills in these games.
5578  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CMC Special Announcement, AMA On Friday, Feb. 28 from 9:00-10:00am PST on: February 27, 2020, 06:18:42 PM
Wow, I think it's a pretty cool interview. I like the responses in the blog. I've been using Coinmarketcap for years and switched to Coingecko very recently due to some recommendations I got when CMC was down for some hours. But in any case, Coinmarketcap is a big deal and a pretty useful website. What's bad is the issue of manipulating trading volumes that has been spotted to affect the list of top crypto exchanges on Coinmarketcap. Perhaps, this is a universal problem with such websites, and it's not their fault, but I am wondering if there are some strategies being implemented to cope with such fake volume cases and make sure they don't change the big picture of which exchanges are the top ones.
5579  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Global Internet connection goes down and Bitcoin Network is not affected. on: February 27, 2020, 06:11:22 PM
Yes, You have read it correctly. I am amazed myself, Recently I found out even if the Global Internet connection goes down, Bitcoin Network is not affected at all. Why and How? I just find out this website called Blockstream I am not promoting it whatsoever. They bring bitcoin into space they have this thing called Blockstream Satellite and running 24/7 for free around the world with different satellite every continent. I might be wrong on how I understood it I don't know how true is this but I am excited what is your views and opinions about this?

Source: https://blockstream.com/satellite/#satellite_network-coverage
How significant is the coverage decrease? Where does it occur and for how long? The answers to these questions are crucial to determining what's going on here. If, say, the coverage drops in a country where Bitcoin is barely used, no wonder it does not affect Bitcoin. If these are minor and temporary coverage issues, it is also unlikely to affect Bitcoin. In any case, I believe that Bitcoin depends on the Internet a lot nowadays. Bitcoin would not be that valuable if it was not convenient to exchange it. I am not saying it's impossible to exchange BTC without the Internet but the vast majority of users would not know how to do that and would not really be interested in doing that.
5580  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warren Buffet would rather be a “forgetful old man” on: February 27, 2020, 11:22:27 AM
Hi Everyone,

Recently, people have been giving Warren Buffet some heat because he said he didn't own any crypto, even though he was given some by Justin Sun.

Our take is a little different than everyone else. We think Warren Buffet would simply rather be called a "forgetful old man" than support something he didn't believe in.

Read all our thoughts on the situation.

Let me know if you guys agree or disagree!

According to CNBC Warren Buffett was gifted 1 BTC during their 'meeting' and afterwards Buffett turned the wallet over to GLIDE Foundation as a donation.
Donating money is good, of course, but I'm sure he could donate way more from his own money. If he truly gave away his money, it was probably a gesture. I think it was rather disrespectful, considering that Justin spent a lot of money and effort on this guy. This means that he doesn't even want to try appreciate these efforts... I hope that one day he'll have to admit he was very wrong about Bitcoin.
