5561  Other / Meta / Re: Improving Signature Campaigns on: December 15, 2017, 02:10:08 AM
I think you are completely mistaken here. Quality threads get way fewer replies than shitty threads, on average. You just need to go to the Bitcoin Discussion section and see how many spam megathreads there are, and then go to the Development and Technical Discussion section to see how many replies quality posts get.

You're right as I'm not a coder nor do I care about the technicalities hence I haven't made a single post in the development section. Would that mean that this section is the only place where people can make quality posts?
The reason why there's almost no spam in that section is its specific nature that limits the number of people able and willing to contribute. This doesn't mean there's no spam or comments that don't add up to the discussion.

excellent question

And to make things more interesting this one is by a legendary member.
5562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best bitcoin wallet v on: December 15, 2017, 01:49:54 AM
I've been always told that Armory is the best and most secure wallet out there. I've tried it out but had no need for all its features. I find Electrum much easier and faster to use, but still nice and secure. Don't use online wallets and exchanges to store your money. Only use wallets that allow you to see your private key. This will come in handy when you decide to cash out one of the forked coins.
5563  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin period of volatility is over? on: December 15, 2017, 01:45:16 AM
I'm looking at Bitcoin charts for the past few days and it looks like a straight flat line.

The volatility is not over, this is certain! We have period of slower trading due to a number of facts with the most important being that we are waiting for the 20th and the futures market. Investors aren't sure how the market will take it and aren't willing to put huge money in before there are some visible changes on the charts.
5564  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Be careful, bitcoin will correct on: December 15, 2017, 01:33:41 AM
If not now, eventually.

There's a saying that even a broken clock tells the right hour twice a day. If I ever told you that Trump will not be a president someday, eventually, what value would that information have to you or anyone else? Stop wasting our time please.
5565  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ♨♨♨ Is Bitcoin A Giant Ponzi Scheme?♨♨♨ on: December 10, 2017, 10:55:50 PM
  • Nearly 3 million bitcoins were generated in 2009 alone — 13% of the total number of bitcoins allowed!!!

So what?

  • Bitcoin was worth less than one penny by April 2010

Because only a small group of people knew of its existence. Nobody was advertising it in the media.
What about those companies that started in the garage? How much was Bill Gates worth when he started his company? Most likely less than the market cap of Bitcoin in 2010.

  • By June 2011, bitcoins skyrocketed 9667-fold from a value of $0.003 to $29

Great. Somebody finally started buying. Exchanges have opened, Bitcoin became widely available.

  • 1000 People control 50% of the bitcoins!!! Scary!

And in case of USD even less people control 100% of the currency, currently measured in trillions.

  • Bitcoin is 5,000,000x as expensive to buy now as it was 7 years ago

Because it started from nothing. You can't compare something that was being traded by a group of nerds to a stock that goes public when the company is well known.
How does it contribute to your ponzi scheme theory?

  • Bitcoins price is fueled by crime, greed, gambling, corrupt governments, greed, drugs, tax evaders, and uniformed investors

Add greed once more to make it stand out.
And aliens, don't forget about aliens!

  • Crypto technology is really cool but bitcoin is too expensive

Said people at $100, $1000, $10000 and they will keep saying this when we go past $20k
5566  Economy / Speculation / Re: Could we expect more years like "2017"? on: December 10, 2017, 10:35:23 PM
I think 2018 is going to be even better than 2017. This year has brought us a lot of new crypto millionaires and even billionaires (the W twins). That's something to celebrate.

Just take a look on were bitcoin was in January $1000 and now in December bitcoin is above $13000 that is a good sighn that 2018 is going to be a great year for the king of cryptocurrencies (bitcoin). We expect more price rise in early 2018 and before the end of 2018 bitcoin will price up to $100,000 and that will be a great year.

It confirms the theory that Bitcoin's growth will be exponential. In 2013 there was a similar 400% growth but at that time we were going up by hundreds of USD, now we've repeated this in thousands. What's next? Tenths of thousands a year?
5567  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase, the forks and the new coins? on: December 10, 2017, 10:33:26 PM
Thank you, in this case if they do not add support for the previous/upcoming coins you are actually losing them. Good to know, maybe they have to note this somewhere so people can be informed.

Yes you are losing them and they could take them from your address and spend themselves, although this would be theft, but you wouldn't know anyway since your deposit address isn't the one they're storing the money on. If you want to claim forked coins it's best to keep BTC in one of the popular desktop wallets like Electrum.
5568  Other / Archival / Re: Have you ever won a Jackpot? on: December 10, 2017, 10:20:07 PM
I have never won a jackpot in my life, although I've been close to it as a child. I could say that I have won a jackpot back then, sort of.
I was on holidays with my mother and we were walking around that resort and I went into that gaming arcade with all the computer games and pinball tables. There were a couple slot machines and like a typical kid I started touching the buttons and handles and one of the machines had a free roll in it because somebody has left it like that without using up all the money. I rolled it for free and won Cheesy It wasn't much but for a kid like me who had a few coins in pocket it was like a jackpot.
5569  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Relationships! on: December 10, 2017, 10:08:55 PM
Actually i don't see that working because gambling is fueled by recklessness, solo choices based on how you feel and that would kill any relationship because they're based on mutual decisions. I would hate if my girlfriend started to tell me how to play my hands in poker even tho she may be right, i prefer doing the wrong choice alone than the right one together when it comes to gambling
no. i have seen couples gambling together but most of the time they are fighting because when they win they are happy but when they lost one of them blame the other for making choices or why did he or she not listen to the other and this and that that often times lead to fight and separation which is not good for those who are married with children because it is not only them that suffer but their children also.

That's living life in the fast lane. Full of emotions, fast and in full. I support couples that gamble together. It can be a bonding activity even when you lose. People tend to be drawn together by an event that affects both of them in the same time like an accident, robbery, and a gambling loss fits here perfectly.
5570  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Superstition on: December 10, 2017, 10:05:26 PM
When you're losing your hope, you need something to spend your trust in and it's should be a superstition.

Not really. I tend to think that only week people need to explain random events somehow. The same people like to blame their mistakes on other people or their lack of luck.
I'm not a superstitious person although I've been tempted by it when I really wanted to achieve something. I was so afraid to spoil it that I'd do any voodoo magic to reach my goal.
5571  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Sun Mining A Scam? on: December 10, 2017, 09:54:37 PM
Cloud mining is unprofitable and they are entering this market as a huge solar mining company? Why? No sane person would be putting up huge money to build a company that offers something that is balancing on the edge. I don't buy it.
2 month roi is laughable. Only scammers would offer that.

We also have our own innovations in the field, but this is confidential information.]
I'm sure you do...

We work directly with equipment manufacturers. We build Data Centers on more economical platforms with advantageous tariffs for electricity.

You were supposed to be in solar mining. What tariffs?

Contracts are not allowed to be sold or transfered to other users.
That was to be expected of a scam. And that spelling mistake...

I'd like to see your Data Centers.
For security reasons, we can not specify the exact location of our Data Centers.

I don't want to go there you morons, I want to see them, but I expect there's nothing to see...

No, you cannot lose money. We make every effort to ensure the safe and reliable operation of your equipment.
No investment business will ever assure their clients that losses are impossible. You can have a fire in your data center or get hacked and then what? "Sorry we were wrong, you actually can lose money."
5572  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: $62 Million In Bitcoin Stolen from Largest Crypto-Mining Exchange on: December 10, 2017, 09:34:00 PM
It must be an internally perpetrated theft. How exactly can a hacker hack into and steal that many bitcoins with all the sophisticated security protocols in place? It's not like the wallet with that many bitcoins was unprotected and had no complex passwords to crack. And exchanges usually have multiple authentication and approval systems, such as multiple persons required to input their own passwords to jointly authenticate a transaction. Like the BitGo multisig system.

That's an enormous amount of money lost. If really stolen, then the thieves can look forward to a very very very merry Christmas indeed.

Them cloud mining operators are morons. Do you know how many of these scam sites have been around since 2013? And how many have survived till this day?
It was probably a scam from the start and they chose to end it with a hack. It's getting harder to hide coins though so it's going to be difficult to profit from this.

If it were a real hack it would mean they had all their money in a hot wallet. Really smart!
5573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Keep Bitcoin, buy more or but something else IOTA, XRP... on: December 10, 2017, 09:11:47 PM
Not sure about XRP. It's been diving for months. It doesn't look like a very popular coin at the moment.
I'm interested in IOTA, but i'm not going to buy it at the expense of my Bitcoins. BTC is continuously rewarding every holder so it would be a shame to give up on it now.

if it's simply a matter of declaration e.g. at the border or something, that's not a big deal. it's pretty unenforceable. but i can't tell, are they trying to build a database of cryptocurrency wallets linked to ID? that's pretty scary if so.
https://news.bitcoin.com/irs-crackdown-tracking-bitcoiners-with-chainalysis/

They are already building a database. That's what makes this bill look like it's going to open the door to a whole new set of laws undermining privacy.

Blockchain is like a puzzle where knowing the ID of a person to whom the address belongs to allows you to fit the piece into place. The more pieces you got the easier it is to track money because at some point the coins will go through one of the pieces that you have in your database. They don't need to have everyone's ID to be able to track coins, especially since the same coins are going to be circulating in the system forever.
One thing is certain, in time they will be able to track every coin until it ends up on a known address. They will then knock on  the door and ask where you got that money from. You'll point at someone, that someone will point at someone else, and more pieces of the puzzle will fall into place.
5575  Other / Meta / Re: What are we going to do about the Shitposters? on: December 10, 2017, 08:11:45 PM
Another tough way of  doing it  : Instead of allowing signatures for only premium members, let it done by case by case basis. For instance, once a member signs up ,he can request for a signature approval once in 6 months. If he gets rejected,he basically cannot have another request for the next 6 months. If someone thinks they're good enough, they can ask for approval in a common signature board where mods/admins can grant the access.Involves too much manual work from time to time.

Do you even realize how much work it would be? Every mod would open log in to see hundreds of requests every day and most of them would have to be denied. Denying would cause tears anger and hundreds of threads where people would sit and dwell upon the decisions, looking for conspiracy theories.
-He was allowed to post, he must be paying the mods! -I bet mods aren't allowing us to wear signatures because they're enrolling their alts!
Nobody would wait 6 months when leveling up a member takes less and it would make the accounts with privileges more valuable on the black market.
5576  Other / Meta / Re: Question about reporting on: December 10, 2017, 07:56:31 PM
The second one has made a post typical for the press section of the forum, but placed it in bitcoin discussion. It's not a big deal, just makes it annoying to the mods who have to clean it up.
5577  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-11] Forgotten Wallet Passwords? Hypnosis the Answer on: December 10, 2017, 07:50:56 PM
Well, this can be one of the newest industry to profit good in the boom of cryptocurrency. I am sure people will do anything possible just to recover lost passwords as the wallet can never be accessed without them not unless a person happens to be a very talented hacker. I would then following this story if there would indeed be people who can get back their Bitcoin using this service. Browsing this forum, there are people asking how they can recover their lost password maybe we can then refer those people to this hypnotism service. Now, am booking a flight to Russia!

Hypnosis has zero basis in fact, it's a stage-show trick performed by actors. Hypnosis has never been been proven scientifically, it's total nonsense.

It's due to the fact that it doesn't work on everyone. There were many cases of random people being asked to participate in a hypnosis experiment and it worked on some of them. I doubt they would all be paid actors, especially that there was nothing to gain from it. The experiments have shown that most people are immune or very resistant to it, but it sometimes works. If all other ways of reminding myself the password would fail I'd be willing to try hypnosis. It can't hurt.
5578  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-09] Number of Bitcoin Users to Reach 200 Million by 2024 on: December 10, 2017, 07:47:15 PM
By that time we will have to resolve the problem with blocks and fees. Without it you can forget about any growth.
I expect that next year the network will get so bottlenecked that people will have to pay $50 per transaction to get it into the next block and $10 transactions will not go through at all.
5579  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Taxes Mining Bitcoins on: December 10, 2017, 07:44:19 PM
I don't think there are any tax laws on bitcoin mining. However, in the United States, the tax law only applies when you buy, sell or spend bitcoin on a tangible commodity.

Could you explain this? What should I do when I buy a meal in a restaurant for Bitcoin? Should I take the check to the tax office and pay the tax? Cheesy
I would expect the authorities to demand people pay taxes from Bitcoins they're holding ahd report the gains every year. This way if they decide to spend their coins there won't be any misunderstandings. If you weren't asked to pay taxes every year you could later buy a large number of cheap products like beer cans and hide the purchase never having to report the transaction.
5580  Other / Meta / Re: What are we going to do about the Shitposters? on: December 10, 2017, 12:10:35 AM
Are you people Blind?

(...)

Shut the fuck up already

Why so angry? Aren't you the guy who was writing sob stories about how you're going to die soon?

What the hell are you talking about???

You know what I'm talking about. Your cancer story. Have you already forgotten about that?

Vod, I saw you tagged a user for shitposting, and I think that's a great idea for someone in DT to do.  I've said it in another thread that this will disqualify shitposters from a lot of campaigns, and mods are definitely not banning all of them.  That's understandable and I'm not blaming mods for anything.  There are so many new shitposters, it's unreal and there's no way staff would see them all, and there are almost too many to report.  So props to Vod.

Your post was the #32 reply to this thread and the #14 reply by a PAID sig. Ad. user what is that like almost 37% replies by a PAID user? I guess that shows where the problem lies.

What's your paid post count now?  Cheesy

Talking like a true anti- signature activist but you weren't like that in the old days. You have tried to rent out (or whore out like some people like to call it) your signature in the past, but now it's suddenly above your level.
