I think South Koreans wishing for reunification should ask West Germany how that went for them. NK would likely be dead weight to drag and support for many many years.

Reading this makes me think "Oh how the mighty have fallen" it's like conservative religious extremism ruins everything, or something.

Why can't it be "no laws" and "neighbor CAN hurt neighbor?" It just keeps going until all the bothersome aholes are shot, deported, or leave on their own. Trolling and being swamped with annoying people doesn't work when there are real life consequences involved. Regarding the person having sex with a minor, if: * They can defend themselves * I believe they are too much of a risk and trouble for me to interfere with * They believe the trouble of keeping it all secret, or not being able to do business with most people, is worth having sex with a 14 year year old Then I guess they will be able to get away with it. Just as it happens now.

why? It seems foolish and impractical to live on the water.
Because you do not have to pay taxes and join military forces that you disagree with? Lots of places where taxes are minimal and there is no military obligation. $1 mil retirement fund would last a lot longer in a country like Belize then in some high sea adventure where the cost of everything is increased by 100% to 20,000%. What if I don't like Belize? What if I want to live in a country full of rich people, which resembles a floating resort, has no laws or taxes, and lets me do whatever I want as long as I'm not hurting my neighbors?

I'm guessing you guys don't watch Colbert Report. He went through the entire process of getting a PAC and Super PAC on his show. Requires filing forms with government and waiting for approval. Might need a lawyer to draw up the documents too.

I hope this is a complete slam against Bitcoin. I hope they take all the ridiculous hyperbole and attempt to show Bitcoin as the currency used by the Axis of Evil. Then I want to see a Bitcoin episode on............................................. South Park!!! I expect this to be like the CSI episode on furries

I hope you didn't choose tobecome a "MtGox Verified User" a few days ago Oh damn. That would be it. I thought that was a strange email. Had just been getting back into Bitcoins, hadn't yet read the forums, thought it was some verification program because my account had been inactive for awhile. I probably did indeed click the link in that email. Seemed to take me to their actual website. Well, I'm at least glad they only got about a dollar worth of BTC. What nature of hack was that, and should changing my password be enough? The link in that email just takes you to something like mlgox.ni or something, instead of MtGox.com. Just standard phishing email with an address that looks legit if you don't look too close. Someone else was complaining about how they almost fell for it because they couldn't quite make out the url on their small mobile phone screen.

I seriously doubt the total collected amount will be more than $2000, so it can just be donated from a single person who is willing to identify themselves

I don't think the "Bitcoin100" name should be associated with this, if you want it to be taken seriously as a charitable giver. Making Bitcoin100 political will hurt it's ability to approach charities.
By all means, organize a BTC for Ron Paul drive but I think you are mixing two distinct things together which shouldn't be mixed.
+1

I see, seems like you guys have it together. A fascinating idea.
Actually, the Lifeboats idea doesn't even use aquaculture. They intend to use hydoponics. I tried hydroponics once. Ended up with a watermelon 2.5 inches in diameter that was almost all core. It was FAIL.

Why not just reward people for mining the way bitcoin does? This way it is a non-centralized government recognized currency that also pays for govt activities.
Anyone in the world could mine the currency for the govt, and it would be taxed world wide, and then spent in the country by the govt.
*facepalm* good point. I guess then the only issue would be people picking between a distributed decentralised currency that charges taxes, and one that doesn't.

I would just like to stress, again, that I have nothing to do with Bruno. He recruited me for managing accounts, and has been working my ass off ever since. All I'm doing is holding the money and freaking out about risks of losing it, since I worry about losing other peoples' money way more than my own.

Still have the issue of no one wanting to mine it, leaving all the mining work to the government. Then there's the issue of Bitcoin type networks being global, meaning the government's mining activities could be supplanted or screwed with by foreigners. About the only secure option a small government would have is to either force everyone else in the country to mine, too, or get rid of mining and just run a secure ledger all by themselves, having total control of all coin distribution, and tracking all transactions digitally from a single centralized location (what central banks already do). I don't think there is a way for any government or private entity to own a private Bitcoin clone, simply because not enough people would ever be willing to mine/secure it.

As governments become increasingly repressive of human liberty, it has become clear that land-based governments are sinking, and the only practical alternative is for humans to return to the sea from which our species originated.
Awesome. What about farming? How much farming does Japan do? (hint, not much)
