561  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 30, 2023, 08:12:47 PM
@ChiBitCTy. There can be an argument that the Ravens has the best defensive team in the NFL for the 2024 season and also arguably the best quarterback for the regular season this year, however, considering the team as a whole, I reckon the 49ers is the better team.

In any case, what was the points odds for this Browns vs. Jets game? I am quite certain the oddsmakers had it under 41 points speculating that this game will be low scoring hehehe.

Well, whatever it was, I'm sure the overs won it... It was a 57 point game in all. It was actually a great game, put me ahead to win the Biggest Loser Ladder thanks to an outstanding performance by Breece Hall and also an pick-6 for the Jets.

Fun watching Flacco actually be better than his former incarnation, despite being 38 years of age. He helped put the Browns in the playoffs for the 3rd time in 23 years.

Looking at this weekend's games:

- Miami vs. Baltimore will definitely be the game of the week, even though both teams have already clinched playoff spots... Its a crowd-pleaser matchup between two of the best of the best.

- Tampa Bay vs. New Orleans: both teams need the W to keep their playoff hopes alive.. Saints need a W and then a number of things to go right to have a spot... Line currently favors TB -2.5

- Texans absolutely need the W over the Titans to help their playoff chances. Seems like a lock for them.

- Colts need the W over the Raiders to have good chance of making the playoffs, Raiders are all but mathematically eliminated.

- Chicago vs. Atlanta: two shit-tier teams battling for a basically non-existent chance of making the playoffs.

- This is a "must win" game for the Rams over the Giants. Seems like a lock for the Rams.

- Another "must win" game for Seattle over the Steelers... Given what the Steelers managed to accomplish last week, its a closer toss-up than the line indicates IMO (currently -3.5 Seattle).

- Green Bay vs. Minnesota: this game is anyone's guess... The possibility of either team going to the playoffs seems unlikely; after this game only one of them will be eligible.

My picks for this week are therefore Texans @ -4 and Rams @ -5.5.

Have to wonder how much the starters will be playing in that Miami Baltimore game.  Not sure if either team still has home frield advantage on the line or not.

Texans should take the W versus the Titans.  Stroud and Collins both back, feelin it.

Chicago vs ATL.. each Bears loss gets us that closer to the top pick (not including the Panthers pick which we own).

Seattle over the steelers at -3.5 is pretty solid.

Feel ya with GB vs Minn...who knows.
562  Economy / Economics / Re: The steps to follow in creating a budget on: December 28, 2023, 11:40:48 PM
Creating a budget is something economically wise that not enough people tend to do or take seriously.  Here is a link for anyone looking to create their budget.  https://www.empower.com/learning_center/calculators/managing-monthly-budget.shtml#/

This link will make it easy to break down your monthly expenses.  This is something I recommend that my clients do AT LEAST once a year.  This is really the ultimate way of knowing whether you're saving enough for retirement or not.  Also just to know if you're spending too much money in certain areas.
563  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a Replacement for a College Savings Plan on: December 28, 2023, 11:36:53 PM
I can't agree with you here bud.  I first off don't think that college educations are becoming way less important.  At least in my line of work (finance) there is still a college degree requirement.  This goes for a lot of my friends in their random places of work.  A 529 plan has it's restrictions, or downfalls, but it's a lot less volatile (typically) than bitcoin is, so as an advisor I could not recommend someone replacing their 529 with a bitcoin investment.  Too risky.
564  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Was You Biggest Win in 2023? on: December 28, 2023, 11:34:00 PM
I never really bet that much when it comes to sports gambling.  I don't have any big win stories outside of sports gambling being that I didn't take any trips to in person casinos this year (where I play games like roulette and poker) so most of my gambling was done online and regarding betting sports games.  I would say my biggest win was probably $200.  That just goes to show how little I'm willing to put down on sports bets.
565  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is there any fun in losing while gambling on: December 28, 2023, 11:31:53 PM
I think that a lot of people would agree that there is plenty of fun in gambling even while losing.  Let's say there's an NFL game on and the game is not a very good matchup.  I will often put down a few satoshis on the game to make it more fun and exciting. Even if I end up losing that money, the thrill of making money was still there the whole time, and it often makes the game enjoyable, that otherwise might not be.  So yes, losing can still be enjoyable.
566  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What I've learned so far as a gambler on: December 28, 2023, 11:29:51 PM
If you walk into a casino with $200 and you start playing with that $200 and you win $200, get the hell out, you simply just doubled your money, take your goddamn leave, what do you think you wanna do? Win a million dollars? You will go home empty handed.

The next thing that rings in your ear is you can still win another or more, that's the devil whipsering, the art of gambling is knowing when to stop.

The only game where you have some power is in Poker, not the online one, this is the best game in casinos, as making profits off of bad players is possible.

As for Other games, You are at the mercy of the house.

No one actually visits the casino to have fun, you gotta trick the mind, I like to think of it has a fun night out and I am going to spend a few hundred dollars and have a good time and if I win it's a bonus, like I've said, you gotta trick the mind.

Always remember this, you are there to win a game where its statistically impossible to win at, it's not impossible to not understand this about gambling, a wise man once said, "if you want to make money with gambling, own a casino".

I can't say that I agree with these philosophies really at all.  Say I walk in to a Casino with $200, and then double my money, if anything I would be the $200 won, and pocket the other 200.  If I end up losing it, then at least I walk away with what I came with.  However if I showed up with $200, than I expect to lose it all, so I would end up playing it to try and win more.  Just doubling my money, at that amount, is not enough to make me want to leave.

569  Economy / Economics / Re: How to gain money on: December 27, 2023, 11:22:46 PM
How about working a regular job? lol.  I'm not sure why you list out this criteria though.  What is wrong with trading or investing in stocks? There is nothing wrong with either of those things.  Once you work, then you have money to invest, and that's how you "gain money".   So get a job and get a side job if needed, that's really what seems to be the answer to the question here.
570  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Too Expensive For Me. on: December 27, 2023, 11:19:38 PM
Bitcoin is too expensive for everyone right now.  I've got a few thousand dollars worth of bitcoin on a couple different wallets that I'm looking to move, but the fact that I've got to pay as much as I do to make those transactions worth, pisses me off really.  These ordinals are dumb as shit and completely a waste of bitcoins true use cases.  Bitcoin needs micro-payments in my opinion and I'm just not sure if LN is the answer.
571  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: December 27, 2023, 11:15:49 PM
I put .001BTC down on the Chicago Bulls last night where they Hawks were actually favored by 2.5 points.  Once again my Bulls pull off another win when most people expected them to lose.  It's just crazy how well they've been playing with out Zach Lavine.  I don't think that's why they are winning, but it does make you certainly question whether he should still be on the team or not.
572  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling for fun, is it a lie that we tell ourselves? on: December 27, 2023, 11:12:33 PM
I think you're over analyzing this.  I am an example of someone whom truly gambles just for fun.  I have been gambling for I don't know, maybe close to 20 years now, and I've never got myself to the point where I had to ask myself if I was gambling for fun or if I had some sort of addiction. I certainly consider myself extremely lucky for not getting addicted..but am proof that not everyone who does, is a gamble-holic.
573  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 27, 2023, 11:10:23 PM
Ravens have got to be the best team in the league no?

No. Angry

LOL!

That game wasn't so much the Ravens playing great but the Niners playing bad.  The Niners beat themselves last night.
It was just one of those games in which nothing went right for the 49ers, and even then despite the 3 interceptions on the first half the difference was just 4 points, what really derailed the game was the start of the second half in which the Ravens scored 14 points in just 18 seconds, at the moment the game was over already and the Ravens were content with just killing the clock, still if both teams were to play each other again on the SB I would expect for the game to be a lot closer this time around.

I dunno, I think that the Ravens have a legitimate claim at being the best team in the league right now.  I know that the 49niners "beat themselves" to an extent, but a big part of that was the fact that the Ravens have the best defense in the NFL and force a lot of mistakes.

In other news I made it to one championship game out of my 6 leagues and I just got the news the Russell Wilson is being benched so that he wont get hurt since they plan on cutting him or some shit.  It's a super-flex league so we play 2 QBs, hence why he's so important to this championship game.  Man nothing goes my way. smh
574  Economy / Economics / Re: Banks secret door for cheaper cash on: December 26, 2023, 08:11:07 PM
I’ve read about this before and this is sadly nothing new when it comes to big banks. Nothing new in the sense of taking advantage of government policies as well and their own bank customers. This is exactly what got me “in to bitcoin” was watching how banks and the banking system operate. This is why I suggest banking with credit unions and small mom and pop type banks.
575  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's Market Performance During the Christmas Period on: December 26, 2023, 08:06:08 PM
I’m actually surprised to find that on most Christmases there’s actually been a downturn instead of and up tick. I would think since the topic of bitcoin tends to come up a lot during family Christmas get together, that more people would be buying based off that, but as you point out that’s typically not such the case. I wonder how January tends to perform ..
576  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should security be employed in local bet shop? on: December 26, 2023, 08:02:21 PM
We have got an insane amount of "local bet shops" here in the United States where I live.  They are mostly all poker /slot machine room type games and for the most part there really isn't security needed because they aren't full blown casinos.  But, you do raise  a good point, what if someone struck it really big on one of those machines, I don't know how easy it would be to collect your winnings if some huge person came and said they were taking it.  Typically there's only one unarmed person running the shop.  So you do bring up a valid question.
577  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The shorter the time you spend the better on: December 26, 2023, 07:59:18 PM
Personally I've see a lot of the opposite being true.  Some games in fact take a lot of time and patience/persistence to pay off. I guess that game that would provide the best example would be Poker or Texas Hold'em.  I was just playing this last night at a family xmas party.  If you aren't committed to taking your time, your sloppy play will likely get you booted from the game pretty quickly.  So some gambling rewards those who take their time.
578  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: December 26, 2023, 07:56:16 PM
Man Xmas came and went just like that.  I can't believe we are down to the final week.  Congrats to New England Potatoes and Hueristic Barbarians for making the Championship game!

I was able to slide in to one Championship game out of my 6 leagues, 4 having made the playoffs even if I lose I can't be too upset, was a solid year regardless.  Would be really nice next year if my very best players don't have season ending injuries.  Please and thank you oh Fantasy Lords.

Ravens have got to be the best team in the league no?

With a gun to my head, i'd take Wilson or Flacco over Browning. Browning does a lot of short horizontal passes/screens, and i wouldn't trust him with Chase out. The Steelers are in a must-win situation, and i don't think they can do it with their offense. Rudolph and Trubisky are terrible, so it has to be their defense, expect a low-scoring game.

It's a long shot but Mullens could be a decent shout this week. The Vikings have playmakers on offense, and the Lions have given up points when playing away from home. This game also features the highest over/under of the four. If i had Addison, Jefferson, or Hockenson on my team though, i'd probably avoid Mullens since you don't want to be overexposed.

Who did you have at QB to begin the season?

I'm deciding between him Flacco and Tua myself. Brutal choice. Smiley

Why they had to bench Howell and torpedo my plans for the playoffs is beyond me. Smiley

Thanks for the education on shrinking images down.. appreciate it!

Man, Flacco, Browning, Wilson...talk about a difficult decision. I think I did pretty well for a 12 man league.  What hurts is wondering what could have been had I not lost Burrow and Chubb in this league.  I had such a massive game last week I just know this week I'll get burnt.  Olave had a nice game , Kyren had a decent game but not like he's been playing lately.  Lastly Alvin Kamara took a massive dump on me.  His worst game of the year, OF COURSE. Grrrr

(trying to shrink these but keep doing it wrong.  Will work on it a bit later.  I def been meaning to do this for some time)
Stick to a player that's outstanding and confident in scoring points. Every team do triggered winning and losing, we have potentials of winning, if they do not have this hope, they wouldn't have compete or contend for any solidable points in the league. Thrilling victory is achievable and everyone has the right to be able to place wager on games. We all have choices to make and our favorites in the game. @morvillz making an exception of choosing Wilson or Flacco over Brownings bases on the tactical date examined, but the same underrated Brownings is the favorite of most viewers in the system.

What is this a fucking AI?

Drinking heavily at a family Xmas party and got this telegram update  Cheesy lmao
