Unfortunately these days people who talk about bitcoin fees seem to have never even used bitcoin.

I'm afraid the number of people claiming to use, invest, hold, Bitcoin etc. is too damn high. Most people who think they're using Bitcoin are either only speculating on an exchange, and have never so much as owned sole control of private keys, never mind signing a Bitcoin transaction, never mind understanding how fees work in any of the different networks they're using.

So they'll never enjoy the truly low fees Bitcoin has been enjoying for most of the years past. Peak network or not, they're paying some arbitrary fee and complaining about the value of Bitcoin being too high.

And no, I'm not being elitist, I'm a simple user. But I actually used to be really optimist about users until you start transacting Bitcoin with a lot of people and they give you exchange and app wallets.

Finally. A sweet win from Joao Moutinho to hammer the nail home in Rangnick's gegenpressing failure. Wolves deserved this, absolutely battering United's corner but man they need to find a way to be incisive if I've to back them again.

Going for a home acca today in Algeria and League Two:
100 units on ASM Oran, El Bayadh, Hamra Annaba, MO Bejaia and Forest Green Rovers to WIN @10.68. Other odds: 9.85.
Units advantage: 83

Running advantage after 95 bets: +10947 (+83)
All-time cumulative: +78,295
Running units after 94 bets (12W|82L): +2697 (+576)

From 8.5 to 4.6 nice catch and best of luck, that'd be a nice hedge opportunity if they reach the finals.

Today we have another tricky matchup as the Steelers still have a chance to qualify if they win while the Browns already missed their chance but at the same time this would be a good chance to crush Steeler's playoff chances. Steelers might be the pick at first glance but i'll go with the Browns @2.20 as I see value in them knowing they have a good running game while the Steelers have one of the worst run defense.

Yeah, the best case scenario for me would be to have 2 picks left in the last legs (I'm still trying to figure out how this all works but it seems that there will be 4 final playoff teams right? Then it'd be a perfect way to hedge in a big way to guarantee some kind of payout.

Steelers won quite convincingly too, Roethlisberger's final home game perhaps? Now it looks like they need to get past the showdown with Ravens on Sunday, and then I'll have Steelers and Packers in with a shout heh. Bookies only trimmed their odds by 20% though, so clearly an outsider.

Dolphins also eliminated boo... so I only have 3 tickets left alive.

Steelers @91 > 251 > 201
Dolphins @251 151
Patriots @8 > 17
Seahawks @251
Packers @8.5 > 4.60

I choose freebets or cashback depending on mood. I should choose cashback more often...
It actually depends on your planned ticket odds. Free bets look like totally not worthy since they are just marginally bigger than cash back. In order to get cash from your free bet you have to hit @2.0 odds. That is why I never choose free bets. On the other hand as buwaytress pointed out to me if you play them on high enough odds the situation changes, but we are talking real high odds here.

Definitely go for cashback, unless you're going to use it on sports betting anyway with odds above 2/1 as Trofo says. And then make sure you don't put it on singles, because voided freebets just go away to a dark corner and never come back. I've always gone for freebet, and always put my freebets on specials or accas simply because I don't bet in casino (except obviously for the challenges).

For me, it's a fixed 10% additional amount in btc on freebet as compared to cashback. It's not good enough to take the risk, but that means a 10/1 bet with cash becomes a 11/1 bet with the freebet.

Couple of us already wandered who is tumi but it seems like it will be one of those shadow players who are here for the contest rather then forum Smiley

I watched just first 30 minutes of Chelsea - Liverpool since I went to play football later on. It was one of the worst defensive displays I have seen in a long time. Before Mane scored first goal there were already 2 big mistakes that should have ended with goals. I heard that Kovačić scored a real beauty, will have to find that one somewhere to take a look at it. Our media is prone to overstatements regarding our players, both when something good or bad happens.

Maybe he'll check in when/if he claims a prize end of season. Would have loved to convert another person to the forum Wink

Kovacic goal? Yes, begrudgingly saying it was nice. He probably didn't even expect it to loop so beautifully. Like Welsh said: no keeper would have saved it.

I took Wolves at 6.66+ on Super Boost. I'm not sure there's anything left to comfort me this month except betting against United, Chelski, Citeh. Sorry Gooners, but we need to punish you in EFL.

Think it was genesis and didn't even know he was a coach until I seen him doing commentary on the weekend NFL games.

Yeah I mentioned it was in the 1990s and on Sega Megadrive (Genesis for you folks in the US). And when they made all those bootleg "compilations" or you see the UK gaming magazines, Madden always always always made it on the list.

Huge Packers win last night so it's great news for me, thought it's time for a nice update on my outright picks for MLB winner:

Steelers @37.3
Dolphins @34
Patriots @34
Seahawks @25.2
Packers @14.2

According to Sportsbet.io odds right now, these are the latest odds. Struck out odds were from a month ago. Seahawks out of playoffs, so I got 4 picks left alive including the favourites right now: Packers, hey!

Steelers @91 251
Dolphins @251 151
Patriots @8 17
Seahawks @251
Packers @8.5 4.60

Bummer on everything, even if United win tonight, I'll lose the insurance on my long acca above. So why not take a value Wolves bet? Jimenez to score and keep it tight and frustrate the Red Devils? I say yes.

100 units at Sportsbet on Wolves to WIN vs Man UTd @6.76. Other odds: 6.20
Units advantage: 56

Yep pretty solid start for both of us. Well atleast this would make up for my 'loss' in the live casino hero ( well not loss but break even oh whatever ). Good starting balance for the year, might use it on some BJ special bet later today if I could catch one. Its been a while since I participated in one

Speaking off, looks like we got credited 33 mbtc -- I'm actually not 100% sure of the exact amount as I didn't keep track of my wallet balance but it should be 33.33 as the final scoreboard shows exactly 30 people left. Definitely keep betting on BJ specials. It's remarkably +EV for some strange reason!

Well done to all of us =D

It is a bit random, it is possible to get really small rewards in higher ranks as well as quite nice reward early on. Then it also depends on BTC price, I believe Sportsbet is doing the math in fiat and pays off in BTC per actual rate.
I think the rewards are higher when you progress to the higher ranks i.e from Silver to Gold the rewards should be much higher than what you actually get from all those Gold rank milestone. I think I chose 0.5 mbtc free bet as the reward for getting to Gold, this is much higher than any other milestone reward in silver or gold

Yeah, I think I even got 0.25 mbtc freebet on Bronze level once last month IIRC or one of the early Silvers, and then a bit lower on all the Gold tiers. I hit probably only 1 of them on a big special and everything else lost haha but there's definitely been an increase in BTC amounts as I'm pretty sure I never got even 0.1 mbtc per level in past months. Never got 0.5mbtc freebet I'm sure, but I'll keep an eye out now.
5649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think the Lightning Network will succeed? on: January 03, 2022, 10:46:45 AM
To those saying I haven't been paying attention to "on-chain scaling" are you talking about segwit?  That isn't scaling that is trying to remove information from the blocks.  Last I checked transaction fees were still $2.50 and currently bitcoin volume is very low.  Dozens of blockchains have proven you can 10x + bitcoin's blocksize and have no issues whatsoever.

To me the only question is, how much pain is the community willing to tolerate before they finally scale?  Right now we have already lost 63% of the marketshare of crypto and counting.  Maybe when bitcoin falls to #2 people will reconsider things.

So after taking the pains to explain things to you, you don't respond to the discussions brought up by your topic headline, and instead pick on an argument that isn't even one?

Bitcoin has moved on from scaling as a priority to other development focus. Even its most vocal critics in that time have accepted that. Development is now on privacy.

Last you checked? What are you checking? I'm still paying 1 sat/byte... And you're talking about low volume but asking for scaling? 100s of blockchains can do 1000x bitcoin's blocksize but they don't prove anything except that the utility (again something I talked about that you ignored) there is negligible.

What is the point of an ultra big block or super fast tps that far exceeds the demand? When was the last time you checked for a full big block on one of these big block chains?

And the thing about scalability you guys seem to not get is that altcoins would LOVE to have a scalability problem. Scalability is a headache any developer would love to have. Currently, Bitcoin and Ethereum are the ones supposedly having scalability issues (I don't think they do, but apparently threads like these insist). That's because people actually use them.

How much pain? Well, the companies whining about scalability in 2016/17 but still on legacy wallets apparently still can tolerate a lot of pain. People moving to faux Bitcoin chains for larger blocks instead of adopting actual upgrades apparently can tolerate a lot of pain.

Oh well. Cup glories, right LFC_Bitcoin?

A draw is probably the right result brother. Our high defensive line infuriates me at times. Seriously just go 10 yards deeper & get the midfield to protect our CB’s.
2-0 up on 41 minutes & going into HT at 2-2 is not good enough.

We can win the CL because we have special players. We’re just not consistent enough over a 38 game season, frustrating.

Oh well, we move on. Let’s get a good result in the league cup midweek.

Yeah, I mean I love the fact we can swarm opponents in their own half, even in their own box, and there's nothing more satisfying than seeing panic in their eyes every time even on the ball, but once the rhythm is gone, and everyone is back to normal levels and they're breathing, then we have to protect our CBs and keeper.

It's not funny that we're the 4th worst team in the league for allowing high quality chances on goal. The fact we're still keeping a good defence is a miracle but if we allow teams great chances, we must expect them to score if they're a top 10 team.

You're right, we've got to move on.

On the bright side, we'red 3/1 underdogs to beat Arsenal in Carabao... easy triple bankroll right?
5651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think the Lightning Network will succeed? on: January 03, 2022, 06:59:27 AM
I have not seen evidence where it looks more likely to fail than it will succeed. Same as any crypto being discussed (on-chain or Layer, whichever), every time people talk about success or failure, to me it always comes down to utility and actual scenarios. You want to theorise, great, but let's also see some evidence. And for me the main issue with most crypto's (except Bitcoin) tx volume is I can't tell if it's utility or mere trading.

With Bitcoin, however, you'll find quite a lot of companies either handling Bitcoin payments or using Bitcoin payment solutions over the years. And those still around have slowly adopted scaling upgrades on the base layer (you really haven't been paying attention!) and many are hopping onto LN in some form or other

Among my favourite sources is the stubborn group of merchants in Arnhem who've been going at it for years with Bitcoin, and since Feb 2019, also adding LN. See this.

So when you're bored with theorising on failed ideas and want to see actual evidence of an idea being used for exactly what it was built for, I'd say there's a good place to start. You can ask them for data directly, and ask them if they think LN will succeed, if the numbers aren't enough to tell you.

@arallmuus well, looks like you and me both got some sweet hits on that 1mbtc freebet eh? I actually did pretty okay with freebets finishing them all up over the last 2 days:

Pretty solid start to the new year for me, considering these were all freebets from forum promos.

Not as big a hit as yours, but this was done live after Saka scored, so it was pretty cool to get it in, if I waited til HT it would have been a bit more too with Super Boost!

Then my man Antonio scores first for this special... Palace were 6:1 in corners by half-time, and pulled away 8:1 in second half, so that was very comfortably won.

Liverpool drew, or I would have had a nice one to cap the night off. Sigh =)
5653  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀-Sportsbet.io-🚀 - Main sponsor of Southampton FC 👋👋 on: January 02, 2022, 06:34:23 PM
^^ Well. That was that then. Our boy in goal is great but I wish Alisson had been available tonight. Mane and Salah did their job, though I think Jota should have been kept on, Ox's touch is just not good enough, we would have had one runaway counter if Jota had been left on the field. Either way, great game for the neutrals. Huffed and puffed and Citeh ends up as the winner of this weekend.

Shouldn't give up still. Would love to get City to join Liverpool as the only teams not to win after topping table at Christmas. Hope Pep goes on that strike he threatens and derails his squad heh.

Oh well. Cup glories, right LFC_Bitcoin?

Sorry if I have doubts on your regrets, price today is 47000. Only about 18% more than your exit price.
I also have doubts on his regrets, I am not in the habit of believing what people say in the forums, especially if there are things that don't add up, as you point out.

But let's assume that what the OP says is true. What I would say to him and anyone else in his situation, is that before he invests a single penny again, that he should be clear about why he wants to invest, for how long and above all I would remind him to do it with money he doesn't need.

The argument of whether the price has gone up or down some more does not hold water. It would be better to think that one wants to invest in Bitcoin because he has understood its decentralized, limited, autonomous, uncensurable nature, its ability to store and transfer large amounts of wealth and at the lowest cost and that for these reasons he wants to invest in it with money he does not need. That way the OP instead of thinking about selling what he would have thought is to buy more, and would not have opened this thread and would have opened another one telling us how wonderful is the DCA Bitcoin.

Yeah, guy comes in talking like he knows the place too well, and then pours out regret over such a trivial price difference. Wouldn't be the first, certainly won't be the last. Don't know why I feel the need to call out every now and then, but yeah for the benefit of doubt, I pointed out what the extra gain was if he held then, as opposed to buying now, if price were to reach $100k. Only $6k difference. Absolutely not worth wringing one's hands over, even if they don't care about the fundamentals are in this for speculation, then like you said, they need to clarify their intent. Is it to exit at 100k? Is it to make 3x profit (in which case, he's done that, why re-enter?).

Buy in now OP if you really made the mistake. And then don't make it again.

No real surprises today, unless you count Brentford's home win slightly unexpected, but Leeds and Brighton were the bookie favourites. The goals do seem to be flowing so I'm hoping it continues for the Reds on the match ongoing.

^Provisional score taken thank you very much at 9th minute. The perfect start, 2 yellows in 15 mins though so that's a bit worrying but I'm hoping it all descends into red mist for the Blues, and it does look like on knife edge even with 18 mins gone.

Nice games. Liverpool in the pick once more, and I can only be compelled to place a max bet. Worked out for me against Man Utd, but I think it's been 2 pushes and 3 busts since heh, but we need to win this one, and the odds themselves are perfect for a high-scoring game I'd say. Just hope Salah and Mane give it their all before their AFCON exertions, we need to make sure City don't get TOO far ahead before they return.

The Barca one though, not sure, supposed to be Barca B all out there, so I'll think of skipping it. But... Barca's good luck with 21, no?
5657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Bitcoin mistake In 2020-2021 on: January 02, 2022, 02:39:22 PM
Sorry if I have doubts on your regrets, price today is 47000. Only about 18% more than your exit price.

You had $1600 from when you sold. If you had kept your BTC then you would have 0.04 btc. Buy it today and you have over 0.034.

That is really not a price difference to worry about.

When BTC is 100k, will you be concerned about the extra 6000 you would have gained if you kept at the old price? So do not add mistake upon mistake Wink
5658  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: January 02, 2022, 01:20:33 PM
Just realised there are some interesting Coupe games today, some already played but there are some tasty upset picks -- thinking of upsets against Marseille @11/1 but I wonder if Monaco and St Etienne are value bets against lower opposition? A handicap or HT win could easily get you about 2/1 on each of them. Don't know enough about French situations with teams though so am staying away from them (for now).

Thoughts?
5659  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 02, 2022, 12:49:52 PM
@tumi man, I thought I got the better of you with my 3-1 West Ham prediction but Palace HAD to get the other goal heh. Great win for most of us anyway, considering the odds.

Speaking off, Liverpool are 3/1 today probably on the news that Klopp won't be at the game. Brilliant for me as it makes me go in even more on them. Need Villa to win first though on my biggest acca to remain alive. Can't wait!

I guess it would have been a different story case if the player (Pedro) had stopped running or lost the ball, but the fact we play go on for quite a while these days for a potential foul/offside made the call look really out of place.

Wouldn't have made any difference for me btw, as my bet was on Tottenham to win at halftime.

Exactly, Pedro was literally through on goal when the whistle blew, I'd probably have gotten myself a yellow if it happened to me heh. And that's what I'm saying EPL is really good now with advantage and I always played thinking of advantage even as a defender, so that was an aberration. Still, I won the Spurs bet so of course happy with the result. Still makes me annoyed though.

5660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC as "every day" spending currency vs. 10 min Block Confirmation/Mining time on: January 02, 2022, 11:46:41 AM
The first response to OP pretty much covered whatever I was going to say when I first saw the topic title, but consider the other solution long implemented by many Bitcoin-accepting services I've been using since 2016:

- Accept the transaction as soon as it's discoverable on the network
- Only allow the delivery of product and/or withdrawal upon 1 confirmation

Of course, it doesn't work for a lot of on-the-go businesses, so you'd have to accept on 0 confirmation BUT you could get on a network of "identifier" wallets, where you encourage the customer to identify their spending wallets (not necessarily KYC) with a trust list.
