... The market price appears to be have been dictated much more by speculative demand than fundamentals for a long time now...

For a currency unbacked by a state or a closed economy, talking about "fundamentals" is horseshit.

Hmm, I think you have to mine few blocks before difficulty adjust...

2016 blocks @current difficulty.  Never changes.
5663  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Calling the Bottom on: September 21, 2014, 02:04:41 PM
.
There is nothing nitpicking in what I said.
The quoted line gives us two bottoms, $2 and $340.  He asks you to do something patently insane:  To extrapolate from $340 (the low which happened three months before his post was made, AKA "current low") and to assume that price is going to behave as it did during $2 -> $266 climb.

You can chose to believe anything, that's how cold readings work Undecided

What is being discussed here, now - whether rpietila's call was for a bottom at 340, or whether his implied prediction for future prices makes sense? You appear to be conflating the two.

No.  I'm saying:

1.  He did not call 340.
2.  On top of not calling 340, he asked you to do something nonsensical, for extra lulz.
5664  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Calling the Bottom on: September 21, 2014, 01:58:10 PM

I believe that the next one might carry us north of $10,000. The longer time we spend here, the more explosive it gets. The supermove from $2 to $266 (133x price appreciation) took 17 months. Extrapolate that with the starting point of $340 in 2014-4-11.

The bottom called is $340 from 4/11/14. Please read the entire OP before saying he's wrong. He may become wrong a few days from now, but as of this very moment we have not broke the bottom that he called.

Lol, OK.  He asks you to extrapolate from 4/11/14.  At no point does he call that date the bottom he's calling.

It's very strongly implied.

If we're going to start splitting hairs, we could as well say that "rpietila calling the bottom" is not a statement of fact. Just like "Risto flying to Mars" is just a hypothetical.

So let's do away with the crap. The way I see it he called $340 the bottom...

Edit:  The entire first post is nothing but similar nonsense.  The whole "can't be unlearned" tripe.

How fast would the difficulty drop if almost everyone stopped mining them?

Difficulty is adjusted every 2016 blocks, so if a ridiculously high percentage of mines shut down at once (ridiculously improbable), the remaining couple of miners would have to mine at the current difficulty until 2016 blocks are mined.  That's why Roadstress said "never."

Your account is relatively new, so assuming the question is real.

Without them, the world would not stop spinning.  The same is true for mankind as a whole.  Not getting your sarcasm.

Market price can be lower than the production cost. What happens then is that production facilities close down - think of non-functional gold mines.

One thing everyone seems to be forgetting:  BTC production cost can't be compared to widget production cost.  BTC production cost can be as high as it is now or as low as $0, without changing the rate of BTC "production."

The same number of bitcoins will be mined if there are just two guys mining them on their laptops as when all the industrial mines are burning all of the world's electricity mining them.  The block reward doesn't change.

Perhaps he meant $2?

As others have mentioned, rpietila asks you to think like this:  pick two points on the chart that I chose, and extrapolate from there.
That makes as much sense as me saying "Bitcoin exchange rate went down from $1153 to $339 in just a few months.  If we extrapolate from that, with the starting point of $400..."

So yeah Roll Eyes

Market Cap    ฿19.8950

Havelock.  How broke are you?

@Havelock:  Any plans of distributing the remaining 100 BTC among MS shareholders?

Edit:  Havelock, you should add a few more decimal places.  It looks like you're worth 0.0000 BTC Cheesy

Though you do have something to take pride in:  You're worth 3x as much as Mintspare Cheesy

@BCB thanks for the heads up, just found it and reading it now.  Surreal.  (probably in this thread somewhere, but in case not: http://www.scribd.com/doc/210845161/SEC-vs-pirateat40-1 )

$393, OP. Good job losing your house and becoming a fool bag holder!

Have some class, man. This is a regular dude who is probably kicking himself really hard right now. He took a chance, if it turned up he would be a genius. Frankly, at least 90% of us on here have no clue where the market is going. It's a 50/50 gamble. He lost the gamble. He isn't a bad person for it nor does he need your shit. Especially right now. Back off people with this bullshit.

P.S. -- I am a bear. Still, I think messages like this to people going through a crash amount to nothing less than classless bullshit.

OP was not an innocent child who fell in the mud trying to rescue a kitten.  OP was trying to make money by playing the market.  There was nothing commendable or even attractive in what he did--it was just dumb, unmitigated greed.

Some feel that unchecked greed is ugly, and should be ridiculed--not applauded.  I couldn't care less, but suspect that's Sevvero's take on things.
5676  Economy / Speculation / Re: Last hour I bought 40 BTC (+160 before = 200 total in three days). on: September 19, 2014, 07:09:40 PM
OP, you have no money.  You also never knew anyone who does, or you'd realize ur being a lolcow and skulk off.
Isn't there some vidya you'd rather be playing now?

Hard for me to imagine what motivates people to react with such vehemence, though.

Many may dislike braggadocio.  Some might believe OP to be dishonest.  Others, such as myself, find that, more often than not, those choosing to make their finances public are just brokeass faggots.

That help?

Now go ahead and change the bitcoin price from sub $400 to $500 and the difficulty increase to 5%. Oh look, Tubes break after after 34 days. Cool!

In other words, substitute reality with ridiculous fiction, and suddenly the math works.

In your defense, over the last couple of years, we did have a difficulty increasing of 5% or less.  ONE.  https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty
