5661  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CIYAM Open - doors now open (first 12 BTC of funds now available) on: January 15, 2013, 01:08:16 AM
Also - consider an NGO that wants to be as "open" as humanly possible:

with CIYAM Open they can:

1) create their top level donation address as their Project

2) create Project Areas for say "Charity Drives", "Marketing", "Accounting" and "Development" (each with a donation address)

3) create specific Project Tasks tasks for every single Charity Drive, Marketing task, accounting task, etc. all of which can be individually donated to

By using the mechanism that CIYAM Open itself uses (raw tx's) or by simply creating separate wallets for the Project and each of its Project Area addresses the Project Manager can move the BTC from the *top* to the *bottom* giving you a 100% publicly audit-able organisation (verifiable via the block chain).

As a case in point CIYAM Open itself is 100% publicly audit-able (and always will be) and any "fees" that I may charge for listing other Projects down the track will actually be in the form of "donations" made to the CIYAM Open project itself or other projects that I see fit to promote (so that *zero* profit will ever go directly to myself and that can be verified by anyone with access to the block chain and the list of relevant addresses which are kept on CIYAM Open even after tasks are "completed").
5662  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CIYAM Open - doors now open (first 12 BTC of funds now available) on: January 15, 2013, 12:52:32 AM
You could try comparing it with indiegogo and other crowdfunding site, and state your advantages/focuses as compared to them. I'm no marketing guru, but a simple comparison with another existing service might be the easiest way to introduce it to someone new.

Okay - first major differences are:

1) CIYAM Open funds are not "returnable donations" (although an escrow address per task will be being added for those wanting that)

2) Stemming from the above a task that fails to be completed on time does not *end* but can continue with a *new delivery date* (with another bid now being chosen for acceptance)

3) Developers get (and can lose) *skill points* per task allowing them to build a rep for the things they are good at (making it more likely that their bids will be accepted vs those with no or low points)

4) You can donate to either the whole project, a project area (which can be nested) or to an individual task within the project.

I think this makes the CIYAM Open concept more of a "long-term development model" than a "kickstarting model" (especially when you look at the "sklls" side).

Hope that helps make it a bit clearer.
5663  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Hong Kong meetup, 17th January on: January 14, 2013, 12:52:59 PM
hey buddy, I expect to meet someone face to face and talk face to face about the legendary dreamy BITCOIN  in Shenzhen;)

My wife and I will be in Shenzhen on Feb. 13th - if you are interested to meet up there then let us know (will be there for at least a week or two as well as paying a visit to HK).
5664  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CIYAM Open - doors now open (first 12 BTC of funds now available) on: January 14, 2013, 11:30:38 AM
Now there is somewhat low resonance..
I believe you started with details too quick. Sure, I enjoy talking about "shall we use ssl- or gpg-encryption?" as much as everyone else around here.. But somehow, in my view, you missed to state what exactly your project does, and in what points it does better than what we have now. That is, in a few, simple, totally non-tech sentences. A "conclusion" for executive level decision.
Like, you know, people first decide if a tool seems useful, and then have a second look if it is safe and sane ;-)

Thanks Ente and yes unfortunately I am 100% "no salesman" (too interested in the tech and software).

Let me try and describe "in a nutshell" what CIYAM Open is:

"It's a way of organising, funding and paying for contributions of tasks for projects (be they open source software projects or even say NGO's) that is 100% open and audit-able by the general public".

(yes still too many words - any Marketing gurus want to trim that down for me?)

I believe this is actually a first of it's kind (but am not trying to make too "bold a claim" and am happy to be corrected if wrong).

The rest (and there is a lot) I will try and communicate in small chunks in the coming weeks and months (it took literally years to create this system and will probably take me at least a whole year to fully describe it unfortunately - but don't worry I will be dedicating all my working days and nights to doing this from now on).
5665  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits on: January 14, 2013, 08:46:20 AM
Guys just to let you know if you wanted to set up a Project on CIYAM Open for Bitcoin100 you would be welcome to (the service would be offered to Bitcoin100 "fee free for life" of course).

After the Bitcoin100 "Project" (the top-level "record type" in the application's terminology) has been created you can then below it create specific Project Areas (nested if desired) below which finally you create specific Project Tasks (they could be used for the specific charity "drives" or maybe even for actual tasks that the NPO needs to get done) making it very easy for people to "see" where the funds have all gone (and allowing people to donate to say just one specific charity without having to even contact you).

No bitcoins are kept on the website nor would any of Bitcoin100's (or any other Project hosted on the site for that matter) donations ever be handled by CIYAM Open or myself personally (so the only thing that could be "lost" at all would be the non-essential service that the site is offering).

If interested please let me know and I'll set you up an account (best if one of you knows how to use GPG).

For the newbies who can't reply to the main thread (in Project Development) I've created this thread (please refer to the main thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=132006.0 for details of how CIYAM Open works).

(casually opens the door to a new way of working - updated the OP with details)
5668  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CIYAM Open - doors opening soon (get paid BTC for pull request merges) on: January 11, 2013, 01:09:09 AM
For my 1,000th post apart from the profile name change (I still am the Director of CIYAM Pty. Ltd. but now think that its future role in CIYAM Open is most likely only going to be one of sponsorship) I'd like to start to introduce people to the project that had initially began as a part-time hobby and has turned out to now be a full-time obsession (for the last few years in particular) to improving the way that software is developed at a very fundamental level.

If you have a spare 5 minutes please take a look at the following:

http://ciyam.org/open/?cmd=view&data=20121221010507352000_P&ident=M100V112&chksum=d36e9a6a

I haven't rushed into creating this software platform as it is actually the culmination of design ideas, patterns and algorithms that I had begun developing as way back as 2000.

By far the hardest thing about Software Manufacturing has been convincing people it actually works and I don't expect the audience on Bitcointalk to be anything but skeptical but I am patient and will be happy to answer questions about any aspect of the system (and yes I know the documentation at this stage is rather minimal).

I have already created a CIYAM Safe for handling the transactions for CIYAM Open that will be performed in an externally audit-able manner (effectively "opening" the organisation's General Ledger for scrutiny by anyone that has access to the blockchain).

I look forward to getting younger (and fresher) minds involved in this project and pledge that except for some unforeseen circumstance arriving I will be working on this project full-time (and without remittance) for at least the next few years.
5669  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BOUNTY - 45 BTC] Audio/Modem-based communication library on: January 10, 2013, 04:34:08 PM
Or is there a way to make QR codes work for real?  If I have to move 1 MB, could I perhaps create a tagged list of 50 QR codes and play them in a video (looped), and let the other device just keep watching until it picks up all of them?  This is less of a problem than I originally mentioned to CIYAM, because you only need one webcam/wire, and there's no confusion about which device to point where (obviously, you can't point a smartphone's camera at itself).

Actually I am getting closer to this possibility already...

Think of a "kindle like" device that has an "animation" capability built in but *zero* internet capability (I have one and it was cheap and was able to store QR codes with around 1K on each image that could be read by a webcam with no problem - and yes it's just a starting point - am sure it could be vamped up).

5670  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MAJOR SCREW UP - 100 BTC AS FEES (don't do raw tx's when you're tired) on: January 10, 2013, 04:19:31 PM
I only tried double spend once. I sent a low priority tx without enough fee and got no confirmation after 24 hours. I resubmitted with higher fee and then got confirmed. However, you case is the opposite: trying to replace a higher fee tx with a low fee one.

Yup - probably a stupid idea also (when you panic - you panic) - am *so* grateful that I lucked upon being mined by a pool such as BTC Guild (my appreciation will never be forgotten - nor my understanding about how "sendrawtransaction" works).
5671  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some questions if you could help me please. on: January 10, 2013, 04:14:31 PM
I am running tor and vpn's all the time , the thing is i see the bitcoin program is an application , so does it actually use the ip address on the tor browser or the vpn that i use , how can i know it doesnt use my defualt address as its a seperate application , ?

If you're using a VPN then I don't think you have any problem (apart from *them* logging you which is up to your own level of paranioa) and if you are wanting to use TOR then make sure you have configured Bitcoin correctly to use it (search this forum or google it).
5672  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some questions if you could help me please. on: January 10, 2013, 03:57:41 PM
Is bitcoin annoymous the way it is ? If i use a different address everytime i really cant be tracked ? or how does it work ? can my ip be tracked ?
What do you guys think ?

Your IP address can only be hidden for certain by using either a proxy (consider logging though) or TOR (although it is still not likely to be revealed especially if you are not running a "listening" client).

What does synchornizing with the network means ? its been that way for like 4 hours now , can i receieve bitcoins while it says that ?
thanks everybody ! apperciated.

You can send or receive bitcoins before you are "in sync" but you may not "see the tx's" until you are (this is somewhat related to the first point).
5673  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ANN] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: January 10, 2013, 02:23:11 PM
There is a fair bit to do to get everything to work, in rough order:
+ finish off the existing MultiBit work and get it out the door to 'clear the decks'.
+ work on the low level 'byte transport layer'.  Probably using javahidapi.
+ produce BIP32/ HD wallet code, for eventual inclusion in bitcoinj. I am liaising with Chris Rico on this.
+ The Trezor wallet will be (in MultiBit) watch only so there will be some work there.
+ Probably write a new 'Create Wallet' wizard to improve the user experience.
+ There will also be some UI work (extra tabs etc) I expect too.

Although I know very well that today was an "epic facepalm" day for myself (have guaranteed that no-one will ever think that I am Satoshi) I think that CIYAM Open could be very helpful for managing this (will be starting to "set up shop" on Monday and please understand that *zero* bitcoins are stored at ciyam.org and that the Project owners control all their own bitcoins in whatever way they wish to so the "brain fart" that I had today could never affect another project that is hosted there).

The first 10 projects hosted will be "fee free for life" so hope you guys will at least take a look at it (btw - I think the name is great - 1 BTC very well spent!).
5674  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Resolved] 111 BTC AS FEES (don't do raw tx's when you're tired) on: January 10, 2013, 09:10:45 AM
Just kidding. You were very lucky P2pool or mistery miner didn't get it

Yes indeed and also if I hadn't managed to get most of it back I think my wife would have been about ready to throw my computer out the window. Grin
5675  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 104BTC of TXN fees - thanks - but why? on: January 10, 2013, 08:23:34 AM
Yup - a quite painful lesson to whoever paid those fees - I would like to suggest that perhaps we add a "max fee amount" as an optional addition to the sendrawtransaction RPC with a fairly low default value:

Code:
sendrawtransaction <hex string> [maxfee=0.01]

Hmm... let's just quote myself here for posterity - I think this will probably qualify as 2013's first "epic facepalm" on Bitcointalk.

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Doh - missed by one month!

I will be in HK one month later (around Feb 18 but could make it a day or two either side) - if you guys decide to have another meeting next month I would be keen to turn up (and would be happy to speak about the CIYAM Open project if anyone is interested).
5677  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CIYAM Safe - offline tx's using QR codes for comms on: January 10, 2013, 05:23:15 AM
I have updated the CIYAM Safe "appliance" with some improvements to the scripts (you can now use either the camera or an image file as the unsigned transaction source) and the docco per suggestions made in this thread.

http://susestudio.com/a/kp8B3G/ciyam-safe

And for those who might have noticed another thread that I started a bit earlier - be warned that working with raw transactions can be an expensive excercise if you screw up.
5678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MAJOR SCREW UP - 111 BTC AS FEES (don't do raw tx's when you're tired) on: January 10, 2013, 04:38:58 AM
102 BTC returned in this transaction: http://blockchain.info/tx-index/42579467/4a0fe8cb78b19778a49d171642649c9ee25453ed206894c88b049d0ee7939a0f

I'd highly recommend not creating raw transactions in the future unless absolutely necessary Smiley.  $1,500 is a pretty risky mistake if it didn't land on a known pool wallet/IP.

Very much appreciated - although I've been doing raw tx's without a problem for weeks I guess the exhaustion of working over 12 hours per day for the last week has clearly taken its toll.

I will certainly be "ultra-cautious" with all future raw tx's.
5679  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MAJOR SCREW UP - 111 BTC AS FEES (don't do raw tx's when you're tired) on: January 10, 2013, 04:27:46 AM
Just confirm it's safe to do so and I can send 101 BTC back to the originating address.  Unfortunately a bit does get eaten up because PPLNS users on the pool are paid transaction fees (but only a minor percentage of users take part in PPLNS).

1ciyam3htJit1feGa26p2wQ4aw6KFTejU is the originating address.

That would be wonderful of you (losing 10 BTC is at least much better than losing 111 BTC).

I've sent a PM with a message and signature to prove I own it.
5680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MAJOR SCREW UP - 100 BTC AS FEES (don't do raw tx's when you're tired) on: January 10, 2013, 04:12:30 AM

I won't let me send it (it has already seen it) - 2 confirmations now so too late for that attempt:

Block #215936 (BTC Guild) - is there someone on Bitcointalk that is a contact for them?
