5681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Idea for a bitcoin commercial on: January 11, 2012, 09:19:46 AM
Deja vue. Isn't there a several-page-long thread about this where everyone has said all this before?

Bottom line, if you want people to get into bitcoin and get the word out there, you have to know how to sell it and that means picking which strength will entice a person.

For me, bitcoin's nerdiness does it all. It wouldn't even have to work as well as it does, I'd still be fascinated by the concept.

For normal fiat-filchers though, we have to find out what that person desires in a currency.

Do they want to launder money?

Buy drugs?

Evade taxes?

Obfuscate savings?

Avoid banks?

Hire an assassin?

Buy child porn?

Gamble?

Donate to wikileaks?

Get money across state/country lines?

Simplify their accounting?

I found this out almost two whole years ago and it occured to me then that the reason its so easy to find images is because they aren't trying to hide them.

26 here. Bitcoiners in my group range from 14 to 60 though.
5684  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Idea for a bitcoin commercial on: January 11, 2012, 08:04:25 AM
Fine, now take bitcoin out of it and replace it with paypal or any other online currency available. Is it still a good commercial?
5685  Economy / Marketplace / Re: "Bitcoin Awards/Favorites of 2011" a scam... but a good idea on: January 11, 2012, 05:53:10 AM
So basically the lesson to be learned here is how do we want people to be nominated?

That's a good question. I can't be 100% sure either, but I was trying to implement a way (even if it is a bit difficult I admit) to make sure it was on the records here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=56887.0

I also asked people there for their opinions on how to do it better or if it's even necessary. Let's see what they say!

I have an honest and potentially dumb question. Is this game going on on Twitter? If so, why do people need to post here?

5688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN booth at CES Las Vegas! Tell all reporters! on: January 11, 2012, 02:20:22 AM
Damn, I miss Vegas! I've lived there 6 years in a row, 6 months at a time, spending the other 6 months in Biloxi and Tunica, Mississippi.

~Bruno~

I miss it too sometimes. I was in Henderson.

That'll make you a Sam's Town Boy.

I wasn't around long enough to fully appreciate those chains for the hometown beauty and monopoly that they are. I moved to the OC shortly after.

What's the expected date of this con?

I plan on going, setting up a booth, and dancing on it.

No actually I might be bringing a new invention of ours from DCAO initiatives, something that will blow your Texan gallon hats off (which isn't too hard given the wind resistance they create).

How much is a booth again?

The booth is cheap. I already have one for Hand Tooled Leather Wallets.

This is going to be the best Bitcoin convention ever! Why? For the live show:

ATLAS meets MATTHEW

I'm surprised you think his electric dog collar force field would go that far.

I'll look up the prices for a table. I'm trying to get some of my crew to go too but flying out of Korea myself is going to be hard enough on 2 months notice.
5691  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [OPERATION BLITZKRIEG] - FeedZeBirds Swarms CES! on: January 11, 2012, 01:36:32 AM
Ff someone believes in something, they should 'tweet' about it without the need for an incentive. A tweet that is paid for is a tainted tweet.

Tainted Tweeting Traumatizes Twitter Topic Trust.
5692  Economy / Marketplace / Re: "Bitcoin Awards/Favorites of 2011" a scam... but a good idea on: January 11, 2012, 01:30:50 AM
Matthew I love how this is a "sham" with no evidence must be fun  making up bullshit? I guess since your a hero member you can't make an ass out yourself anymore lol what a joke yours bigger ass.

Clearly, you and anyone who whines didn't like the fact they didn't get there way. It doesn't get any more transparent then the way I did it people can nominate and un-nominate simple and straight forward. If you dont like I told you go create your own but to call it sham ? Nah that's worth calling you out on it.
Minute you put someone as nominated by your account anyone can discredit it.?  Will welcome the real world it doesn't work that way.

Nobody else could do this because there is no "perfect" way.

When I say sham, I'm talking about basic protocols we would all expect from someone running a contest of any kind. So you go to a friend's house and they're playing poker. He invites you to play and you agree. Next thing you know, he accidentally sees the cards he is dealing himself but says "oops! no worries" and keeps dealing, skipping the cards he doesn't want. Then he accidentally messes up his chips with yours, and says "oops! can't be perfect!" and just grabs a handful of chips from you "just in case" his got mixed in. Then he tells everyone there is a fire and to get out. Turns out it was a false alarm, and when you get back, all the cards are gone and he said that he went ahead and took the money because he had won the game and didn't see the need to prove it since he knows what he's doing and "nobody is perfect".

Your argument is that we shouldn't care about the game so much. Okay, but if a game is worth playing, shouldn't it be fair for everyone involved? Where do you draw the line? I know my example is a bit extreme, but why didn't you ask the community for their ideas on how to do it better? Why, when people pointed out to you that nominees shouldn't be removable by random anonymous individuals you kept going with a wide open google document, and then why oh god why, did after you ADMIT you made mistakes and "oops!" messed something up, did you not stop the entire thing, admit your fault, find a better way to do it, and redo it correctly?

Luke Jr is straight and to the point. He's not wrong, he's just coming off like he's got a grudge against you. That may because he thinks you're actually a scammer. Me personally, I think you were just trying to do something fun for the community. I had fun. Thanks for providing the fun. The problem is, I'm also a perfectionist, and the neighborhood knowitall. That means that once I know how to do something better, I'm going to share it. When you plant your fingers firmly in your ear canals and tell me that knowing is not important, then you create a situation where judgments can be made against your character.

Is that what you want? Is name calling doing anything for you? Wouldn't it be right to just restart the whole thing and not make Luke and I feel the noble and responsible thing to do is just do it bigger, right in front of you to show your stubborn self how it's done right?

I am not even that interested in hosting one myself. Why would I really want to probably pay 12 BTC myself just to 12 strangers I don't know? Why? Because I, like you, want to do something fun and interesting for the community. The difference oh naive friend, is that I wouldn't leave the community out of the decision making, something a poll is designed to facilitate.

Your turn.

I find this interesting..."The reason for this gag order was due to the high profile of the attacker in question, apparently an individual our law enforcement have been tracking for some many years" (from mybitcoin's website). It is possible the same person that hacked Tom's site hacked my wallet as well, but I/we have no way of knowing for sure.

Wtf is up with the Fresh Prince of Bel Air lyrics? Joke or his way of saying in an odd manner that he can't say anymore more on the subject?

Trolololol

lowercase 'L' instead of uppercase 'I' in the domain name.

Infamous?

Are you sure the word is correct? (I made this language mistake in an exam before.)

It was more of a joke than anything, but if you think about it-- everyone knows you due to having been zhoutonged!

I'll change it to famous just the same. ^_^
