5701  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: A new poll for product warranties Bitmain on: October 10, 2015, 08:30:20 PM
there are many users with pcb s5 fails, then they could sell to these users and make profit

"many users" = not many users out of 10,000s of S5s sold.

Also it was mentioned a faulty one.  So it would be a crapshoot.  Bitmain might get something that is junk and would take more money to repair then it's worth.

Bitmain is not going to go to a model you ship them old parts and they pay or give compensation.  Dogie is right about small overall   Also keep in mind when they mad them they did it in MASS quanity so the price they paid might be quite a bit less then you would want for a pcb anyways.

If they felt there was a big need they would produce them again.  That is just how it works.
5702  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: October 10, 2015, 08:27:22 PM
So I'm guessing there is no update on those replacement board for the orbs. He is most likely very busy with his server power boards. When it's the second batch supposed to be released.

Likely part of it is SFards.  They dont seem interested in public sales right now they are very quiet.

So likely it's the same on chips that they are not selling at this point.  So those dev chips could be some of the few in public hands.   So it really could suck if someone spent a ton of time to design around it and then they the company with chips stops selling.
5703  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain "warranty" on: October 10, 2015, 08:23:31 PM
That's great, until customs looks on Bitmain's website and sees the price is $1600 or $1600 worth of BTC. Doesn't matter what currency you paid with, the price is the price.

In a selfish way I'm glad I don't have to pay much in import taxes on mining gear from China, but at the same time I wish we actually had higher duties on Chinese imports in general. The point of import duties is to benefit local economy - import taxes incentivise domestic production and you don't end up sending all your money to another country in exchange for whatever junk you're trying to buy. In the case of specialized equipment like bitcoin miners, where currently there's only a few manufacturers in the world, it hurts, but in the case of almost literally everything else that could be manufactured locally, it's foolish. At least from where I'm sitting. Not everywhere has the raw material and engineering resources that the US has - but then again, not everywhere has a culture simultaneously dominated by greed and laziness like the US either.

But this is a warranty complaint thread. Different thing to be annoyed about.

This is like the 2nd or 3rd warranty thread.  It's getting rediclous.  Bitmain does not do things for free so anyone wanting a year warranty... it would be tacked on every single sale.

The other popular thing is about the declared value.  If bitmain is known to a country as shipping incorrect amount's there will be some sort of trouble for them.  It would be illegal in some countries and crazy for a legit business to avoid vat/taxes.   This is really where the customer comes in.  Some need to say it sucks but their country is not made for mining, and find a data center to host.

Also keep in mind the long break bitmain had.  I bet they have TONS of emails to anwser.   Chances are some sent multiple emails, so imagine sorting that out.  They have a big obstical right now on getting caught up.
5704  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit HD 0.1.3 Password no longer valid on: October 10, 2015, 02:06:11 PM
I absolutely and definitively did *not* forget my password and it no longer unlock my wallet.

I left it on for a while and when i went to send a transaction, it of course ask the password again before sending the BTC, but at this point it tell me the password did not unlock the wallet.

I then closed the wallet and restarted the computer and now i cannot load up the wallet since the password is still invalid.

Is there something that can cause the right password to become invalid for no reason such as computer being set to wrong time, etc?

Have you looked at address of coins online?  I would verify coins are there and it was not compromised.

As far as password not working no it should not happen.  Here is FAQ about passwords - https://multibit.org/en/help/v0.5/help_lostOrForgottenPassword.html.  Do you have the private key saved somewhere else? paperwallet or just private key on usb, etc?

I of course have the words to regenerate the wallet. But i am not willing to use them before i know whats happened. I doubt i have been compromised but i can't be certain. If there would be a way to display the password using the recovery options, this would be nice, using a few of the words.

Then i could know if it was changed or if its just the software bugging out.

You can be pretty certain by looking up your BTC address you use on a block explorer such as blockchain.   You look to see if BTC is still in address or gone.
When you check is there still BTC in address?

5706  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: good places to hide paper wallet ? on: October 10, 2015, 01:55:18 PM
Best place is your locker or safe beileve it or not these are best places or try to hide in bank.
Good idea! Unfortunately, OP have to pay some interest/rent for the bank locker Shocked
IMO, there's nothing much an efficient locker than your/human brain, just remember your btc address and corresponding private key!

Problem with this is one point of failure.  Say you could perfectly remember your private key's (yes multiple is what I suggest instead of one big one).

Lets say you are hit by a bus.   Now the only person who knew the keys is gone.   I like bank deposit box as family will get it if that bus situation happens.  (And it is very unlikely but still most I think would want family to have access to it instead of it becoming abandon)

You can put it in your will, which become effectively the same as storing an encrypted usb + paper with your priv key in a safety box, but it seem people here like to say "you can't trust the government so you can't use safety deposit boxes!".

Hence my idea of implanting the data in a silicon capsule between your toe or something.

In a "normal" world from our perspective, lets go with an encrypted USB drive/paper backup in a couples of safety box for redundancy. That way your peers can access it if you get hit by a bus.

Implant is just not practical.   Truth is it does very by country on how secure safty deposit boxes.  If you live in a country that banks might fail or goverment might seize yes it could be a bad spot.  I am in US so feel pretty secure.

As far as leaving it in will that is not a great thing either.  Some lawyer somewhere having a copy of your private key just does not make sense in practice.   Unless you are saying will just say's BTC is in safty deposit or something, but then it's really not doing a whole lot.
5707  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Tackling my Mining Rig heat generation on: October 10, 2015, 01:47:08 PM
Hi All,

I recently started a simple mining rig in my basement. I soon found out that my house became the best sauna in town. Apparently the basement became 30C (86F) and the hot air started traveling up heating the house. Since it's October I counted on cold weather outside bring cold air in through the basement window which didn't work because it was way too hot in the basement.

As a result, I put a box fan in front of the window to force cold air in. This greatly helped reduce the temperature in the basement and the miners. I have purchased more used Antminer S5s and 2 brand new Antminer S7s to add to my rig which will add more heat. I was hoping you guys can review my videos to see my set-up and maybe offer suggestions to try to improve airflow. Thank you in advance.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM6Q5RTpnxXVI-YK37fBi8A

You should dump the heat strait outside, you don't have the ventilation of a data center. Then have a box fan pulling cool air into the basement and then a fan pulling the heat out.

You can either put the miners's exhaust in a window physically or by using those vinyl tubes.

We really do not see to left side almost looks like a wall.  So there might not be a easy way to do in air and exhaust.

People do the S5's upwards sometimes, I like mine laying flat as it's easy to blow air.   Those box fans are not a ton of CFM's.  If you point them all the same direction you could use something more like i do with http://www.lowes.com/pd_416730-11292-SFDC2-600T_0__?Ntt=416730&UserSearch=416730&productId=4755305&rpp=32 (I have 2 of those pushing the hot air from rigs).

My area also has a exhust I upgraded the gable fan to this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/QuietCool-Professional-3013-CFM-Power-Gable-Mount-Attic-Fan-AFG-PRO-3-0/206047381 it made a huge difference on moving exhust out.

Do you have another set of windows to the left? Or just the one to right?
5708  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain "warranty" on: October 10, 2015, 01:37:28 PM
Bitmaintech has not been that good with warranty service.  Many threads on it.

Some people have run 2 s-5's off one controller.  Here is a link :

They also have been getting more strict if anything.  Now of you do a fan mod or anything without permission it voids warranty.

I still remember the letter that came with my S5+ it was like do anything to your unit... lose warranty.
5709  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 10, 2015, 01:31:12 PM
I touched a power brick and U3 start beeeping Shocked And goes to zombie, so i assume after 58 hours test failed. Looks like psu failure, now it much cooler then before, hmmm maybe i think i must solder pci-e connector.

There is a  rumor that they work better off of a pcie to u3 adapter.  I had never tried it but always wondered if it was true.

Maybe it really is.   58 Hours was still pretty dang good.
5710  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Compensation about shipment delay of S7 Batch 1 on: October 10, 2015, 01:29:06 PM

Dear loyal customers,

We are sorry that the deliver of some of our orders has been delayed. We will give a form notice here regarding to this issue tomorrow morning, Hong Kong Time.

Thank you for the update. I hope the notice tomorrow is more informative to all of us waiting.

Interesting I did not expect a response during weekend at all.  Maybe they were just catching up on emails before doing it.

I'm hoping good things for those who did not get orders yet.
5711  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Most Secure bitcoin wallet ? on: October 10, 2015, 10:03:33 AM
Most secure wallet is blockchain.info. They encrypt everything in our browser and they store nothing as raw data.

Wrong advice. I know people which have lost their bitcoins have in this kind of wallet. I don't know how and in which way but the fact that are at least two the verified cases in which people has loss of their bitcoins shows that this wallet it is not at all secure. I use coinbase. Never heard or read even one case of hacking of this wallet. Never heard or read any case of loss of bitcoins from this wallet.

I want to add here even that coinbase paid your fees when you send bitcoins while blockchain don't do this. In the last wallet the fee are paid from the sender (from you).

So coinbase is not only more secure but even convenient.

If using this make sure to use 2 factor authentication.  This is essential with a hot wallet like blockchain.  It is a good wallet for a little spending money.

But I highly suggest cold storage over it for storing a decent amount of coins.  Web wallets just do not offer the same security that a proper paper wallet does.

I have just been reading through this thread and I've got to say how organised it has become.
Just wanted to wish you all the best of luck.

Where would be the best place to get hold of a GekkoScience / Sidehack stick miner?
I've had a look at the Bitshopper site and they are out of stock. Can you point me to where best to look , I'm based in the UK.

Thanks

Assuming your in the US over here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1126705.0

He has started a queue so you can get in early and pre-oder by a week or two.  This is route I would suggest.
5713  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: October 10, 2015, 09:45:52 AM
re: y-cables and Compac.. when I updated the resellers list yesterday (GekkoScience re-opened sales), I thought I'd click on the store/web search shortcuts, and lo and behold:
(removed ebay link as I don't want to advertise  in the pool thread)

( not my listing and this should not be seen as an endorsement )

It is my listing I was hoping of possibility of becoming a re-seller. One of those thoughs that sounded great in my head, and in actual workings did no really go like planned.  Thought it might be good as no one had even listed one.  But there has been no interest and sidehack will have stock soon, so after those expire they will not be re-listed.

I didn't post about it in any threads as I don't like to do a ad in someone elses thread.    Someone might be able to do it better then me, I did all kind of warnings with windows as I don't want a not as described.   If someone want's to do windows driver support you might likely get more sales (I'm sitting at 0 ).

And again I'm not advertising here.   After listings one end one less then day left, but they will not be re-listed.  Someone else is welcome to try to take the ebay market if they feel they can move them.

*Edit one auction has already ended and other has less than a day left. So yea..... my idea that could have been good did not work out.  If anyone is going to try to do it there is interest around $30 range and $5 shipping.   But take ebay fees into account there is no profit at that price.

*Edit two got a few offers just not enough to make it worth while.  Re-listed again to see if offers will happen again higher or fluke.   Still would love to be a reseller of these fun things.   But not holding breath with 0 sales.
5714  Economy / Goods / Re: Chickens for Bitcoins? on: October 10, 2015, 06:18:39 AM
To the mods, If this is not the right section kindly move this topic to where it belongs. I just couldn't find the right forum section for this topic.

I Have a vacant lot in my area and decided to make it a farm business for free-range chickens (laying hens) that could produce 300 eggs or more per year. If you know of someone or have some in your backyard and would like to sell I am very interested. I have found one website that sell this kind of birds and ship worldwide but I don't trust the site. They don't have contact info and mailing address.

Let me know..

Check your local regulations.   When you say vacant lot I think city.  Many cities have restrictions on animals.

I actually am on a family farm, I could have chickens but have not on here for a long time.  A lot of time for little money, and one varmint animal in area can kill your investment.  You would be surprised how smart a coyote can be and what it can get into.
5715  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many bitcoins do you have to sell to make a living? on: October 10, 2015, 06:11:49 AM
Is it even possible to make a living by selling bitcoins?

That depends on whether you want to live small or live big...which way are you looking?

If you are not mining them the hard part will be getting BTC for low and selling high.   Buy low and sell high some will say as if it's simple but the value changes rapidly. So a profit is not a sure thing.

Also those who sell bitcoin have a heck of a premium, as sadly it's a high fraud area.   I personally only mine or buy from exchange.
5716  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Placing machines outside on cold winter? -20 on: October 10, 2015, 06:09:35 AM

On the night a bit of the "homeMAde" cable is still warm, the other day when 4x pcie were passing trough 1x copper wire , it got RED HOT, and started to burn stuff and melting plastic haha, no dmg too done i got it in time Smiley.

Man, please stop using those "homemade" cables! This is not a joke. That's good that you got there in time before fire started, but don't you think that was a sign for you to stop using those cables.

You better pay some cash for the good cables then take such risks. I'm not alone here who is telling this to you so you are warned.

Hey, it is okey now whit cables.

I had made some miss wiring, was passing 300a trough 1 cabler for 2x pcie. i have 4 rails and was using 3.

Now each connection got 1x rail and cables are actually not hot anymore and passing 150a by each cable.

The cable is HOME wiring , fat Copper Wires so was kinda dissapointed when this happened.'

Now it's working fine i will upload pics of the sp20.

Please do upload those pictures once you get a chance.  I have been very curious what it looks like after you described cables.

If you have a chance please take picture of wiring to it.
5717  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: October 10, 2015, 06:07:35 AM
i plan on buying one as soon as he reopens the sales.. maybe even 2.
i can move my s3 to kanos pool until i get it tho..

My biggest suggestion use this time to get a Y usb adapter.   The one that get's power from 2 usb ports.   If you go cheap it takes a week or two.  Mine was closer to two weeks.

So I would order on ebay now as they are super cheap with free shipping, just slow shipping.

this?
http://www.amazon.com/Power-Enhancer-Female-Charge-Extension/dp/B00NIGO4NM/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1444436937&sr=1-4&keywords=USB+Y+Adapter+Cable

yeah but it is from china slow shipping.

If you are usa based I can send one cable to you. I think sidehack is opening the stick cue soon or he already has done so.

It's true I owe phil for learning about how to get these Y cables cheap off ebay.   I believe i bought mine for around what that amazon one cost's on shipping.

As phil said though from china it is slow.  But at a dollar something it's hard to beat.
5718  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 10, 2015, 06:04:28 AM
Did anyone get a response from Bitmain recently? They aren't responding to emails last few days.
People sent about 6 trillion emails, then another 36 trillion when they didn't receive a response to the first during the public holiday. It will take time to sort through.

Is there an "official" reseller on Amazon or Credit Card accepting website for the S7?

eBay is about your only choice to purchase with credit card via PayPal at a price that isn't too outrageous.  I've seen one sell for $1,864 with $26.00 shipping cost.

Thanks, are any of them inclusive of the 90 day warranty direct from Bitmain?
They'll tell you to go to your reseller for warranty so its a lottery as to if you'll receive service. Buying from Bitmain is the only sure fire way.

Dogie, is telling you the truth there when it comes to warranty period.  If you're concerned about warranty, purchase from bitmain.  Spending that much for a rig is a no brainer for me but not everyone starting out can pay cash for bitcoin to get the amount of rigs they desire.

And don't let a company tell you if buying from them you still have a bitmain warranty.  As the business that bought it from bitmain had a warranty as soon as it transfers to another party that miner loses it warranty.

And the companies that say they are able to cover warranty theirself I would personally not trust.  It is a crap shoot and likely if they do say send  it in to them they send you a different unit and try to con bitmain by sending a unit that had a different owner.  I don't trust many resellers.
5719  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: A new poll for product warranties Bitmain on: October 10, 2015, 05:59:58 AM
I'm selling my S5, and I asked bitmain I send them the PCB faulty, for a coupon for S7. to me the pcb do not need any more.I am awaiting response from them.

It's the weekend so communication is not very big.  But they have never dealt coupons before for sending in parts.   I highly doubt they start now.

You have to remember they are a business.  If something cost's them more then it's worth they chances are won't do it.  They don't want S5's in their data  centers they sold a lot of used ones to make room for other miners and make a profit.
