5701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you spend your Bitcoin? on: October 18, 2021, 08:25:45 AM
Do you spend your Bitcoins or just hodl?

Since I earn bitcoin too, I spend some and I hold some. Bitcoin is money and it's no use to just gather/hold them all for after I'm turned to dust.

If you spend
What for and do you miss something that cannot be bought for Bitcoin yet?

I buy rarely for Bitcoin. It's not really an option in my country. I usually have to convert to fiat first.
So the answer would be... that I'm missing almost everything that money (fiat) can buy?

If you hodl
For how long and why don't you spend?
Do you have exit strategy or you will spend it after you can buy your desired thing?

My strategy is to keep a balance between fiat and crypto.
If my bitcoin stash becomes reasonably big I will probably sell more than I earn, maybe even diversify in other investmnets; but I'll think more on that when I'll get there, if ever  Cheesy
5702  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Do exchanges freeze transfers from mixers ? on: October 18, 2021, 08:17:49 AM
I had once in the last 6 months money sent to Binance from funds mixed at ChipMixer. Those funds went from CM (I want to make it clear, the mixer not the campaign) to an address of mine and after a while (I don't remember if it was days or weeks) to Binance.
It's not something I do often since the risk is there, but I've done it exactly as a test. Of course, it was not big amount of money (since that's how tests are done), but in my case it worked.

It was before this late Binance-KYC drama, still, maybe my test does help somebody.
5703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: [List] Distribution social campaign on: October 18, 2021, 07:33:00 AM
While this could be a good idea/list in some users' view, some others may consider it off-topic, since it contains also bounties paid in altcoin.

Also, while I don't know if Bitcoin bounties are centralized anywhere, we do have Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns and in time altcoin bounties get centralized by this or that user, depending on who's active and willing to do it. list of bounties good quality (new update 17_07_2021), despite the date in the title, was last updated less than one week ago.
5704  Economy / Exchanges / Re: My withdrawal suspended on Binance on: October 18, 2021, 07:01:09 AM
this is my own account and i verified with my own paperwork
I followed their rules and uploaded a video anbd face recognition they needed already.
its been a day since a issue and waiting for withdrawal aprrove.
i figured out when i try to log in with pc it happens i checked the  devices in (app)and every time i log in with pc it shows different ip but for the same city i use .
for example 1.1.1.5 1114 1113
so i dont think its gonna be a big issue because its my own account but i wonder if they have problem when i use a vpn!

Not your keys, not your coins. You'll have to play by their rules and also have patience (their support are still people, some better trained, some worse). You already started that, so you also have to have patience.
The VPN may be indeed an issue since some users try to fake their country with VPN, making Binance wary about that practice.
If no change in.. let's say one day, my advice is to discuss, as possible, with the support, and try to find out together what's the best way to continue.

And for future reference, try to not keep too much money at exchanges. I repeat: not your keys, not your coins.
5705  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ***BREAKING *** Bitcoin ETF is approved on: October 18, 2021, 06:55:51 AM
Yea, lots of people have definitely been mislead with these kinds of headlines on social media, and it definitely helped the upward price pressure. But to be fair, apparently the chances of the futures ETF being approved is really high.

Yes and no. Many were probably misled, also "buy the rumor" probably works greatly, but overall I was surprised by this topic. If this (Bitcoin ETF approved) would have been for real, the media and twitter would have had many many more news on this.

Since I am just drinking my coffee, I didn't even try to read what the paper tells, instead I've scrolled down to see what a few Legendary members tell about it. And your other post, which I've merited, tells simply and clearly the story. My only regret is that the forum doesn't rearrange the replies and makes that one the first to save people from reading/scrolling too much  Cheesy
5706  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I grow my Crypto Bag without trading on: October 17, 2021, 01:36:23 PM
Trading really require more skills and knowledge of crypto and the trading platform, hence I don't want to rush in.

That's great that you have found this out. Indeed, trading is riskier than most (traders) would like to acknowledge.

I hold some coins but I wonder if I am making profit that way.

If you hold bitcoin, as long as the price grows, the value of your bag grows. Of course, that's unrealized profit (virtual profit) and the actual profit happens when you sell.
If you hold altcoins too, I recommend you pay attention to them, since altcoin prices tend to drop on long term compared to bitcoin's.

So, are there ways to increase my bag without Trading?

Bitcoin is money. The best way to increase "your bag" is to buy more or earn more (usually by working for it). [But only invest what you afford to lose; Bitcoin price rises and falls, it can be risky and you have to understand that]

Then there are many scams, from HYIP (websites where you can deposit and they promise that get huge returns) or doublers (with lies like send me any coins and I'll send back the double of that) and most cloud mining sites. Again, those are scams and will make you lose money.

Then there are legit places where you can deposit and get some rather small interest/returns (some exchanges maybe, or even some faucets), but here we talk about small amounts, under 5% per year.
But here too, the "not your keys, not your coins" applies and you don't have 100% certainty that you will get your money back and the interest.

Faucets and other means of free money may also look interesting, but keep in mind that the amounts you usually get are so small, they mostly don't cover the electricity and time spent.

Mining needs expensive devices, so that is out of question.

So the best way I know is to hold in your safe wallet and buy/earn more from actual work. Sorry to disappoint you.

5707  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum server on Windows (or VirtualBox, or, even better, WSL) on: October 17, 2021, 11:46:27 AM
Based on my past experience, BTC RPC Explorer is easy to install. While mempool.space have lots of dependency (such as Electrum Server & MariaDB), this one only require you to install Bitcoin Core and Node.js.

BTC RPC Explorer seems to not know if a transaction has RBF or not. Since I'll use it for my transactions, it's not that bad. Correction: it does know if RBF is on, but it shows the info only for unconfirmed transactions.
As a minus, the look & feel is not that great. On the other hand, it doesn't have yet another database, which is very nice - having 3 databases for the same thing (just because electrum server and blockchain explorer are made by different people) is counterproductive.

I may give it a try, let's see how hard it is to install/configure. Thank you.

Update: in under 1h I've got this also running. Impressive! Thank you for the hint!
5708  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet issue? on: October 17, 2021, 10:33:11 AM
When I restore with the seed, again no history is displayed.

You should tell much clearer what you expect from an Electrum that's offline.
While offline Electrum is great for signing transactions, if it's indeed on a computer that's always offline, if you ever go online with it, it defeats the purpose.
Then, if Electrum is offline, you cannot expect it to get the history of the transactions, since it should need an online server for that.
Since you had history, that wallet was not always offline.

All in all, I think that you're doing something wrong and you may have not understood that the money is not in the wallet, the coins are "on the network" and the wallet either needs to be online to "see" them, either works without, only for signing transactions (but for that you need an online watch only wallet too).
5709  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can't get inbound connections on Bitcoin Core! on: October 16, 2021, 06:52:47 PM
Is there anything else that I could try?

( I don't know how the VPN helps/works there, hence: ) Is the router forwarding 8333 to the windows 10 IP?
5710  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum server on Windows (or VirtualBox, or, even better, WSL) on: October 16, 2021, 01:49:44 PM
Many thanks HCP, this was the correct solution.

It wasn't straightforward at all, as a matter of fact I almost gave up at some point and I even unistalled Ubuntu after a couple of tries. But I've tried again, with Debian under WSL. I may have been making useless steps too, but I've finally got to the sweet:

Code:
[2021-10-16T13:31:39.392Z INFO  electrs::server] serving Electrum RPC on 127.0.0.1:50001

Some notes:
  • For now already the Debian folder takes 4 GB on my C: drive although Bitcoin runs under Windows and electrs actual data dir (30 GB) is set to somewhere else.
  • The errors under Ubuntu were from not finding librocksdb-dev 6.11.4-3 to not "knowing" how to create files and folders on a Windows NTFS drive/folder. Not nice.
  • For now it works well, but it uses bitcoind .cookie instead of user/pass, and I want to also make it start automatically, maybe also not fail if bitcoind didn't finish syncing, and obviously also install a block explorer.

When all is done I may even make another post with the steps, since I expect to not be the only Windows user here  Grin

Questions (need help) :
1. Is there any way to make electrs not fail (and instead retry later) if bitcoind is not available yet?
2. I could use some suggestions for the block explorer to install. Is it mempool.space or is there any better/easier one?
5711  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 22.0 Released on: October 15, 2021, 05:22:05 PM
Man, how big the blockchain is. I think about Satoshi's white paper and I imagine a system where each one of us can easily run a node on their computer, mine and make a small profit. Nowadays you need 400 GB to download the entire blockchain if you want to run the core software, you need ASICs to mine, etc. Are there any plans in the core development to at least allow users to run the core software without having to download and process the entire blockchain?

I think that this covers your question: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5364381
5712  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do I recover my old bitcoins? on: October 15, 2021, 04:56:33 PM
Hi, I received 10,000 bitcoins 10 years ago But it was a private key on my old computer that I sold a long time ago. How can I recover it? I have spent my whole life finding these bitcoins for 4 years And I have no hope in life anymore. If there is a way, help me find it

Although I tend to believe that LoyceV is right and you're lying, you had 10 years to buy at least some of those coins back to fix that mistake. If you didn't... too bad.
5713  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: A few questions about mining on: October 15, 2021, 04:48:21 PM
In short, if you have any information about how the processes related to this miner voting are, I would like to learn superficially.

I would start with these 2 links:
https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/56924/what-does-signal-and-lock-in-mean-in-a-bip
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin_Improvement_Proposals

Possibly the first one already gives you the "superficial" info you need.
5714  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Blockchain transactions flow visualizer on: October 15, 2021, 01:30:00 PM
What happens exactly ? Does it freeze or does the API reject your call ?

I guess that this image tells it better than I could:

5715  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - verifying at least two signatures - I got 1 public key but not others on: October 15, 2021, 01:13:28 PM
On the download page you can find:

Our executables are reproducible, and are signed independently by several builders.

The link from there goes to: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/tree/master/pubkeys
And you'll find all the public keys there, including Emzy.

Interestingly on https://download.electrum.org/4.1.5/ I cannot see Emzy's asc, only ThomasV and sombernight_releasekey
5716  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla make 1 billion profits from it Bitcoin holding on: October 15, 2021, 07:55:30 AM
If Elon decides to drop his bags today, the market will suffer a massive tragedy, perhaps even greater than the last Covid 19 dump.
The future of bitcoin is something to keep an eye on, especially now that Elon Musk leads the pack of billionaire wolves.

If you really want to, you can always stay afraid that this or that will sell. Nobody stops you from that.
But would it make sense economically to sell now if they don't really need that money? I don't think so. Not yet.

Well, if you turned the table round, I think you'll see it as a profit either way. If they choose to sell, they'll make out their cash and wait for the next bearish season so they'll increase what they bag. That's a profit, except that they said they won't be selling any of their holdings which we cannot vouch for. Lips sealed

I would indeed see it as profit. But such a big company probably has people with more experience in handling values and they will stay real.
And, as I said, I think that they will not rush to sell if they don't have to, in the same way the banks don't sell and re-buy their gold based on market moves.
5717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla make 1 billion profits from it Bitcoin holding on: October 14, 2021, 05:23:13 PM
that is 1 billion dollars profits at the present Bitcoin price.

That's only on the paper. As people said, unrealized profit.
1 BTC = 1 BTC. As long as they don't sell, there's no actual profit to talk about.
Nice bullish (for newbies) news though Grin

While the quoting is reassuring, it may worth mentioning that it was already archived automatically at ninjastic.space and loyce.club too.
5719  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: October 14, 2021, 04:57:16 PM
Mercedes won't have the edge in that because of years of practice in it.

It's not only about the years of practice on those tracks.
Some tracks have longer straight lines, some have shorter; some have tigher corners, some have them wider; some allow easier overtaking by being wider overall, some don't... and so on.
This kind of differences will favor one car or another, one driver or another, not necessarily because of the years of practice.
5720  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Send my earnings to someone's Paypal and get BTC instead? on: October 14, 2021, 10:46:45 AM
this would make the transaction less 'adventurous'?

For example:
I made some $$ with vultr.com
I ask vultr to send payment directly to the person who would send me BTC
I cannot reverse that Paypal transaction in any way as I am not a party.

It could be. But it's up to the seller to decide for himself.
Imho at least this kind of clarification could get you more sellers. Good luck!
