5721  Economy / Currency exchange / [H] $25 PayPal [N] btc at preev 1:1 on: December 27, 2019, 03:20:46 AM
As stated in the title, I need $25 worth of BTC at preev 1:1. We can use whatever preev is at, at the time we finalize the deal.

I will not send first unless you have significant green trust or if I've done business with you before.

This will be a neutral feedback transaction.

Send me a PM if you're willing to help me out, as I might miss seeing this thread if you post here.

Local rule:  Please do not post here unless you're interested in doing this deal.  PayPal is very risky because of the chance of chargebacks, but I have never done this and won't ever.  Also, I won't deal with anyone under Full Member unless they're willing to send first.

Edit:  Deal done, locking thread now.
5722  Economy / Reputation / Re: YOBIT SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN on: December 27, 2019, 03:14:12 AM
For users, is it simple just about monetising their banner space or are there any other reasons?
Nope, I don't think there are any deeper reasons than people just trying to make money.

This whole investbox thing has left a bad taste in my mouth since I've had some time to actually think about it.  I don't like how Yobit changed their campaign signature from cryptotalk to the investbox one, which is asking members to advertise something completely different and at the very least smells very fishy.

People might very well be tempted to buy some of those non-existant shitcoins with "investment plans" on Yobit, in which case they're probably going to lose money when they try to sell those on the market after Yobit ends the plan earlier than the person thought.  They're only going to let you earn 5% interest daily for a few days at most--and notice how you can't withdraw any of those coins or even find much info about them.  It's all a load of crap, and any lingering respect I had for Yobit has basically flown out the window in the past week.
5723  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Stop Loss, A life saver or a evil? on: December 27, 2019, 02:53:00 AM
I get the impression that about 60% of members posting here don't have a clue what a stop-loss order is.  Not surprising.

OP, there's nothing inherently right or wrong about using a stop-loss order and if you're trading a particularly volatile coin and your exchange offers that function, it could save you from losing more than you want to.  I used to trade stocks and could have put in stop-loss orders but generally I didn't--and there were some trades that I kicked myself because I didn't use one.  They can be figurative life-savers as you alluded to, and they're certainly not "evil".
5724  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk posting etiquette on: December 27, 2019, 02:35:37 AM
One more important thing to add, don't simply leave negative reputation(s) unless you don't mind receiving them in return as a form of revenge, unless you're a scam victim or the recipient really deserved it.
That's true, but people shouldn't be leaving retaliatory feedback anyway unless they really don't trust the member who left them the neg--and that's often the case, but my point is that feedback shouldn't be left out of revenge.

This is sort of related to the OP here:  I thought a lot of senior members had agreed to make most of their threads self-moderated, but I haven't really seen that happening much, and I think I've been guilty of not making some of mine self-moderated.  I'll have to bear that in mind next time I start a new thread, which isn't that often, but it's important to keep a lid on spam and being able to delete shitposts is a fantastic tool.

Fortunately the spam problem hasn't even been as bad as it has been lately.  I haven't been seeing heaps of low-value posts in Meta or outside of Bitcoin Discussion much.  Or maybe I need a new pair of glasses, who knows.
5725  Other / Meta / Re: What if Theymos added new Rank after Legendary? on: December 26, 2019, 07:31:26 PM
OP, you've still got a long way to go before you hit Legendary so I wouldn't worry too much about any potential ranks after that one.

In any case, this has been discussed lots of times before and I'm pretty sure Theymos isn't even considering changing the ranking system, though I haven't read through this entire thread yet.  I've read other ones over the past couple of years and they always end with no changes or additions whatsoever.

And frankly I'd be completely fine if Legendary rank is the end of the line on the forum.  Right now it's almost impossible for new members registering since the merit system was introduced to even get to Sr. Member.  Very few have achieved that rank and even fewer have gotten to Hero or Legendary.  Most of the Legendaries were grandfathered in (including myself) and I bet that over the next few years if nothing changes, there won't be many new additions as far as members getting to Legendary.
5726  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Binance not accept my citizenship, Alternative? on: December 26, 2019, 07:24:38 PM
Binance exchange does not support many countries, not just yours.
No kidding--they don't even support my state in the US unfortunately and I'm not even sure why that is.

If a VPN would work for this, I'd go with that option if you can avoid doing KYC, even though it is a little sneaky.  I don't see any problem in wanting to stay anonymous.  Others have suggested Kucoin, but I don't know if they offer service to Iran or not.  Don't know which exchanges are operating in which countries.  It's all so damn confusing these days.
5727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Deutsche Bank predicts cryptocurrency could replace fiat by 2030. on: December 26, 2019, 06:43:02 PM
By 2030, the demand for alternative currencies will rise, with digital currencies eventually replacing cash, according to recent research from Deutsche Bank.
Eh, I doubt it.  There's probably going to be increased demand for things like bitcoin and even altcoins, but as it is right now those are barely seeing use as forms of money.  I really, really don't think the fiat system is in trouble.  Even if countries like China create their own "digital currencies" (whatever that actually means), it'll take them being foisted upon the populace in order for them to be adopted.

Not going to bother reading the article, because I've seen enough of these bank reports to know that a lot of them are just dead wrong in their prognostications.  Take three different banks and you'll get four different opinions.
5728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why YouTube Bans Bitcoin &Crypto Videos? on: December 26, 2019, 04:21:34 PM
This is what happens when you are using a centralized platform.
That's certainly true, but everyone should have known about the possibilities before this and everyone knew Youtube is run by Google and that Google can do whatever it wants.

It isn't clear to me to what extent the video deletion is happening or why they're doing it.  It's a really bad move on Youtube's part if this is some kind of crypto-wide video ban, because they're already becoming the big bad censor that everyone hates now.  I'm sure if Google had its way, it would be only mainstream media outlets who could post content on their site.  I don't think they care to host videos for people who don't draw in big revenue for them.

Screw Youtube.  Even if they didn't remove every single crypto video on their site, screw them.
5729  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What kind of crypto trading do you recommend with $50 investment? on: December 26, 2019, 03:17:19 PM
My idea is simple it will be less rewarding in the beginning but it would ensure that you don't go bankrupt in the first week.
I guess that's probably true, but I would say why even bother trading if all you've got to play with is $50?  If that's all you can work with, my guess is that you probably can't afford to be trading cryptocurrencies and would be much better off if you didn't even try.  Too many people get into trouble by putting more into the market than they should.

I wouldn't even attempt to trade anything with that amount.  You'd be better off just buying some bitcoin with that $50 and holding onto it throughout the upcoming year and adding to it when you can.  That's probably going to be the best way for you to make money.
5730  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can Bitcoin Really Hit $1 Million? Demirors Warns Halving May Have Zero Impact on: December 26, 2019, 04:33:14 AM
In any case, Meltem is pretty hehehe.
And it's so good you shared an enormous image of her.   Angry

Aaanyway, I don't know what to expect from the upcoming halvening and it doesn't seem like there even should be any reaction from the market to something as predictable as that--but judging from the ones I've seen in the past they do appear to have an effect in a positive way.  Who knows, but I'll be watching the market and bitcoin's price in particular in the next few months.

But bitcoin's a long ass way from hitting $1 million and it'll be lucky if it even gets close to $10k next year IMO.  In fact if it does hit that mark, I'll be more than satisfied.  A million dollars can wait a few years.
5731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If You Bought Bitcoin Each Week in 2019, You’d Be up 49% on: December 26, 2019, 01:26:32 AM
However, do you guys agree about this one? Up to this date, most of the market move are in favor of the bulls than the bears.
I'd have to trust the math being done, since I haven't done it myself but it sounds about right.  This year has felt weird, more bearish than bullish, but that actually hasn't been the case.  There's a disconnect in my mind that I suppose is there because bitcoin actually hit the $13k mark in the summer and then crashed.  But I think in January the price was around $3200, so if you just look at the beginning and end of year prices, it's done very well.

And it's too bad I wasn't able to buy some bitcoin every month, but disposable funds have been tight.  Dollar cost averaging is pretty smart investing in general, and hopefully there are some folks who do it with bitcoin.  Anyway.  Here's to an even better year in 2020.
5732  Economy / Economics / Re: A Nobel-winning economist says it’s time to kill the GDP metrics on: December 26, 2019, 12:56:27 AM
Quote
GDP is on the upswing, yet Los Angeles burns regularly, and the U.S. president faces impeachment.
I don't really get the point of this part of the quote, since those things are only factors that might potentially affect the economy and it isn't as though this is the first time in the history of economics that there's been severe unrest, disasters, and everything else happening.  There are always things going on that might affect a country's economy, but good luck trying to measure the impact before the effect happens.

So this is one economist blabbering on about some iconoclastic, paradigm-shifting lunacy.  The man probably deserves some respect for his accomplishments, but I trust the academic community will be the best judge of whether to listen to his suggestions, much like what happens in the scientific community.  There are well-known scientists who don't believe the HIV virus exists and have said as much, but that line of thinking hasn't exactly gone mainstream.  True knowledge will (hopefully) always prevail.

I have no idea in hell what you're talking about here, but it looks like just another anti-DT rant on your part, so I'll let it waft through each eye and out my nose as usual.

OP, based on what JohhnyUA wrote in your feedback it doesn't really appear to be justified.  It looks like he just doesn't agree with your assessments on a few matters, which sort of comes down to a matter of opinion--and leaving somebody a neg based on that isn't what Theymos wants the trust system used for.  I don't know if anyone was falsely accused, because I haven't looked into the matter and haven't even read the entire OP here but you ought to be free to express your opinions and that includes calling out scams as you see them.  If something isn't actually a scam, the accused should make their case and let the community decide on it.

When it comes to making false accusations, people should really have more of a spine about that sort of thing.  I don't know how many times I've been slandered, and if you look at my trust page members have accused me of a lot of things I didn't do.  And you'll note that I haven't retaliated with red trust or even made a big deal out of it.
5734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a global reserve currency? on: December 25, 2019, 05:47:59 PM
Bitcoin isn't worth nearly enough to be any country's reserve currency, much less a reserve currency for multiple countries worldwide.

The USD is worth how much in total?  It's in the trillions I think, where as bitcoin's market cap is only in the billions and that's fluctuated wildly in the past 10 years.  That volatility alone is reason enough for it to not be a reserve currency, and any country like the US could easily buy all of the circulating bitcoin if they wanted to.  That just wouldn't work, though.  What would they be cornering the bitcoin market for?

Plus I'm sure the taxpayers would revolt against an idea like that anyway.  You need a stable currency and one with enough of it to go around if you're a country and are holding cash in reserve.
5735  Economy / Reputation / Re: Reference topic: Why are these members excluded on trust lists? on: December 24, 2019, 09:50:08 PM
Peloso has contacted me twice in the past couple of weeks regarding removal of my exclusion, and I honestly don't even remember why I have him excluded.  The same could be said about some other members I have as inclusions or exclusions, and it's basically my absentmindedness flaring up.  I did have a look at his feedback, however, and I'm pretty sure my exclusion is justified.  I'll have to take a closer look, but not now.  My eyes and mind are fatigued.

~The Pharmacist
Gee, I was just going to comment that I was excluding you from my trust list as well when i noticed that you'd posted that.  Reason: you're quite obviously mentally unstable and if you were ever to stay on any level of DT, it would be a disgrace to the system.  My exclusion of you might not have a powerful effect, but it's one that I can comfortably live with.  Bye bye, princess.
5736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Who is the 2019 Bitcoin Drama Queen on: December 24, 2019, 09:13:34 PM
The winner will get 1 whole Dogecoin as a reward
LOL.   Shocked

I've seen some videos of Roger Ver and the man sounds so insane it just hurts to think about how wealthy he probably is and why a sane person such as myself isn't.  I think he's been in the right place at the right time at least a few times and somehow he's gotten people to listen to him.  Crazy, crazy.

I don't really follow bitcoin "personalities" much, as those cults don't interest me.  I'm not even sure who the other people are, if you can believe that.  I've definitely heard their names over the years but I don't know anything about what they do or what they talk about.  Guess I should probably watch some more Youtube vids.

Edit:  So I'm voting for Roger Ver I guess.  OP, you probably should have made this an actual poll.
5737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Xapo Debit Cards to be mailed this month! on: December 24, 2019, 08:13:07 PM
I am still waiting for my Xapo card ... lol
Big LOL, as I only noticed the date on the OP after reading the first few posts.  What the hell happened here?  I thought I read DaveF talking about using his Xapo card in the US a couple of weeks ago, and he mentioned that the US is the only country it works in.  Is that the issue here?

I suspect we will see more delays coming down the pipeline. Here's to hoping that I'm wrong! Tongue
Glad you didn't bet money on that, dude.  I usually report necrobumps, but this one was very informative.
5738  Other / Meta / Re: Decreasing number of forum users on: December 24, 2019, 06:30:09 PM
I think it's the bear market too..
<snip>
Including ETH/ICOs..
Yep and yep.

If bitcoin starts shooting to the moon again and we get a market like 2017, you can be sure people will be flocking to bitcointalk for various reasons.  I think the relative dearth of signature campaigns in 2018-19 might also be a factor.  It seemed for a time that they might even die off, but I've seen some new ones get started this year.  When bitcoin spikes, people start wanting to earn it through those campaigns again.

And the ICO market had to have had an effect on traffic here.  I've heard the whole scene is almost dead, but I'm not sure about that.  But it's definitely not like it was in 2017 where bounty hunters were seemingly everywhere and those stupid ICOs were coming out almost daily.  Bitcointalk is still going strong, and I'm not concerned that it's in jeopardy or anything.

I also don't think the site's design has anything to do with it.  It's old, simple, yet very effective.
5739  Economy / Reputation / Re: Tagging yobit campaign participants is right? on: December 24, 2019, 05:03:00 PM
It's just a HYIP I don't understand why this HYIP would be worse than the other ones?
What Yobit is offering is high-yield I guess, but only in percentage terms because those coins they have offered are worthless in and of themselves (I checked).  I though I read that the funds to pay out came from those shitcoin devs themselves, and I don't think there's a risk of actually losing your shitcoins.  They can end your "investment plan" at any time (I think) but you get to keep whatever interest you earned.

Or whatever the hell Yobit's doing, who really knows with them.

Dude it's not clear that it is a scam or not. i will test it for community sake, and show the results in a week.
That's good.  I'm sure Yobit will have no idea that you're testing it, since they seem to be oblivious to everything including the cries and pleas from legions of unsatisfied customers.

I'm of the opinion that the campaign participants shouldn't get tagged, but this is an iffy one.  The campaign isn't just advertising Yobit itself, but a specific functionality on the site that looks very much like a Ponzi scheme.  It would be really nice if someone from Yobit would visit the forum to defend itself, but I know that's never going to happen.
5740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now YouTube is flagging Bitcoin and crypto-related videos? on: December 24, 2019, 03:45:42 PM
Yesterday I even found a validated Ripple account with thousands of bots following and commenting at live-chat.
Most of the comments on Youtube might as well be made by bots anyway.  How many times can people write "who's watching this in [insert current month/year here]?" without it getting really, really stale.

I'm not sure if these are scam videos that are getting deleted, but the folks at Youtube probably don't know the difference or don't care, but it would suck if legit videos were taken down just because they're about bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.  I already can't stand Youtube's policy of silencing the more right-wing content, i.e., anti-feminism and other videos with those viewpoints.  It isn't that I always agree with the opinions, but I don't care for the censorship at all.

And man, there have been some great crypto vids I've seen, especially about mining and other topics that I don't have a lot of knowledge about.  I bet that most of them won't be touched, because there's so many of them and most are obviously not promoting scams.  Hopefully that'll be the case, anyway.
