If the US government passes the Bitcoin ETF, will the market immediately become a bull market?
https://www.trackcoinmarket.com/en/crypto-news/31897/op-ed-talk-bitcoin-etf

I have see quite a few discussions on the same topic since last few days. It seems like there is another hope building up in the market for ETF approval. Please understand few things before you think anything positive about the ETF. I have quote one of my old replies that I posted in another thread of bitcointalk. Please read the below quote paragraph to understand the basics for now.

Quote
Try to understand what type of ETFs are being reviewed by SEC. Are they synthetic or Physical? If they are synthetic, that means, actual bitcoins will not be bought from the market. That won't change the current demand and hence no impact will be seen in the market. But if the the ETF is a physical one like, Winklevoss ETF, then you can certainly expect some impact in the market, because in this case, physical bitcoins will be purchased from the market which will increase the demand and take it up to another notch higher!

So based on the type of the ETF, you can expect some impact! However, I don't see any hope of the ETFs being approved anytime soon in 2019 as SEC is still very skeptical about these proposals. So don't bank on this just as of now!

I hope it will clear your mind!
5742  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the cause of trade war between USA and China? on: October 04, 2018, 10:47:27 PM
I don't know if this is the right place to ask this questions, but since it has to do with economy, I feel i should ask it here.

For some months now, I keep hearing about the trade war between United State and China,

I have tried to research on what is the actually cause of this war but I can't seem to understand what is the actually cause of the war.

My question is this....

1. What is the cause of the trade war?

2. What are the things the both stands to lose because of the war?

3. Does it have any impact on the crypto market?

I want economist in the forum to help me answer these questions.

I have a one sentence reply to your question. I can write a nice article on this topic but here I will resort to a single sentence. The reason for the trade war is,

"The ego problem between two strongest economies in order to decide the dominance for coming decades"

This is how I see the issue and due to this, the stock market is bleeding worldwide!
5743  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Funding for ICOs Drops to the Lowest in 16 Months on: October 04, 2018, 10:06:25 PM
Bloomber

Is the initial coin offering boom over?

Startups raised just $326 million in August, the smallest amount since May 2017, according to data complied by Autonomous Research. That compares with about $3 billion on average during the first three months of the year. ICOs using the Ethereum blockchain are seen as one of the main catalysts for sending Ether’s price surging last year. Now they’re being blamed for its decline as some of those projects cash out to cover expenses and on concern this year’s cryptocurrency bear market will drag out.

The entire game is linked with the price of ETH and the credibility  of ICO investment! I have found a very interesting article on this same matter and it's a good read,

https://www.bloombergquint.com/onweb/2018/07/09/half-of-icos-die-within-four-months-after-token-sales-finalized

Also I see a serious lack of trust in ICO market. Anyone and everyone is floating an ICO nowadays without actually mapping the competition. Currently, I can see at least 60 active ICOs in icobench listing site related to banking where the main goal is to create the banking solutions for crypto and merging it with fiat account services. Honestly we don't need duplication of ideas!

I too had earned some tokens from some bounties and I have sold off majority of the tokens as soon as i had received. However, I had also saved some tokens that i thought would be good enough in future, but sadly all of them have shown more that 90% decline in price.

This is a serious challenge that needs to addressed through correct regulatory framework. Otherwise the crypto market will face a severe reputation risk.
5744  Economy / Economics / Re: Demand-Pull Inflation was responsible for Bitcoin ATH of last year. on: October 04, 2018, 09:45:56 PM
I have come to conclusion in my opinion that excessive demand for Bitcoin and crypto currency in general was the major factors that push its market value higher as at last year. Although It is just my opinion and I will love to know your opinion if contrary to my submission please. And since many who bought or invest at the peak in December this year are yet to recover their losses, it may be difficult for the market to reach such height before end of December this year.

I don't think you statement needs contradiction, not at least from my end. I too believe that huge demand lead to the ATH during later 2017. The market was absolutely over hyped and a lot of people with zero knowledge about blockchain, started investing in it!

I know few people from my office, who had invested in bitcoin by using their credit card. Those who came out quickly, was saved. But majority of them are still paying the bills with huge interest amount.

But I don't think market will be able to beat the ATH this year. The market is consolidating and being stabilized. Personally I would be more happy to see a stable price instead of seeing a hyper-inflated price of bitcoin!
5745  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Interbet.io | Ethereum Betting Exchange Ðapp | No registration needed on: October 04, 2018, 12:24:46 PM
What I see from the website, it is essentially a sport betting platform managed by a smart contract to match the odds of the betting and to handle the payout, completely anonymous and without any intervention from a third party! Till this point, all seems fair!

Also what I understand that you have rolled out an ICO for the same! How come no details of the developer team is updated in the ICO website? No credentials at all!!

For gambling it may not be important, but when you ask for public money, such kind of credentials are very important!
5746  Economy / Speculation / Re: Would ETF APPROVAL in early 2019 ever have positive influence in Bitcoin Price? on: October 04, 2018, 09:41:56 AM
Some group of people  has argued we will experience another high surge in Bitcoin Price early 2019 when ETF get approved  while some said ETF does not have any crucial role in influencing Bitcoin Price positively. From the little experience i have acquired since i started trading on Cryptocurrencies ,  i have got to realize price Predictions has never been any effective .The underlying theory of Bitcoin price determinants still remain a mystery unlike in traditional market unless someone got a Crystal ball. lols. Some experts has made lots of wrong prediction in the past.

First of all, there is no assurance that bitcoin ETFs will be approved in early 2019. It may or may not happen so always have a contingency plan ready if you are banking on this news.

Secondly, try to understand what type of ETFs are being reviewed by SEC.

5747  Economy / Speculation / Re: Almost 12 months of Bear Market .Is there any better future a head? on: October 03, 2018, 10:13:36 PM
2016: always above $300
2017: always above $600
2018: always above $5800

12 month bear market? what are you talking about.
you mean the cub(small bear) and calves(small bull) constantly playing back and forth throughout the year. in a 10 year bull market

I exactly second the thought!! How come we can consider this immense growth as bear market if we look at its year on year growth. I don't remember any other asset class can give such a return in this shorter term!!

Also as you have mentioned in the OP that you have entered this market during 2016, so you must have recorded a huge growth already. Unless you have entered during the bubble at late 2017, there's no way you will see it as a bear market!!
5748  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Bitcoin really stabilize any country's economy level? on: October 03, 2018, 09:12:59 PM
As we all have been speaking many times that Bitcoin possesses the power to diminish the use of fiat in a country where it's welcomed with full hearts, I wish to know that does it really have the ability to cope up with the challenges a country's economy faces? Can it help in the growth of their GDP?

As we know, Bitcoin is limited in number whereas Federal Reserve has the power to do monetary easing when things go wild with their economy levels. So with such limitations, can Bitcoin really stabilize any country's economic issues?

The answe is simple, NO! Bitcoin is not a magic wand who would accomplish such huge tasks like stabilizing the GDP of a country or eradicate poverty from the face of the earth!

Also bitcoin doesn't have the power to replace the fiat system either!! It has just shown a way to do that in an affective and transparent manner! To replace the fiat system, the respective countries will have to come up with their own cryptos running on their own blockchain!
5749  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anyone betting on PUBG? on: October 03, 2018, 08:27:00 PM
I didn’t know that something like this existed or even possible like why are you going to get paid if you kill a player in the game?

It's a simple business equation mate! The organizer will be getting 5 rupees profit from each player. Look at the below calculation,

Registration fees: 20 INR
Registered people: 50 nos.
Total fund pool: (50 X 20) = 1000 INR
Pay for each kill: 15 INR
Maximum people can be killed: 49
Max payout: (49 X 15) = 735

Net profit to the organizer: 265 INR

So the organizer gets 26.5% profit from each game. That's a very profitable business opportunity! But for crypto, the major percentage of the profit will be eaten out by the transaction fees!
Bolded part!

Thast the reason why we don't still saw a kind of tournament arrangement based on crypto due to that thing. Price swings can really lead out to non profitability of the organizer itself.
For Fiat then it would be normally available due to the fact they can some ensure their profits without worrying about volatility.

Correct! But if the dollar value is not taken into consideration and only the crypto units are considered, then it can make some sense! For example,

The registration fees: 0.005 btc (doesn't matter what the dollar value of it)
Reward for each kill: 0.003 btc

If a player can make 2 kills, he will be in profit. Also I know some wallet allows to send multiple transactions in one go. If the organizer uses that, he will still remain profitable!
5750  Economy / Economics / Re: Sick and tired of the cryptocurrency bullshit!!! on: October 03, 2018, 08:20:54 PM
I have seen a lot of similar ranting while the price was going down. At each dip, I always found one or two such topics. However, this is somewhat new to me when I see someone ranting when the price of bitcoin is slowly stabilizing!

Also the argument is not really making sense to me because of the mention of some imaginary whale flooding the market with fake orders in order to keep the price stable! Really!!

I mean why would a millionaire trader keep on pumping and dumping at the same time to keep the market stable?? What's the reward that whale is going to fetch?? Think about all these factors! Bitcoin price stabilizing, is a good news for us! Only people who invested during late 2017, will not be happy!

5751  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is It Advisable To Follow TrollBox During Day Trading? on: October 03, 2018, 04:18:31 PM
Being an weekend trader, I would not personally suggest anyone to follow trollbox in any of the exchanges. Instead rely on your consice decision other than following any random stranger. Study the pattern of the coin pair you are going to use and take decision based on your own intuition. The loss and the profits are going to be yours at the end of the day!
5752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Not Ripe To Replace Gold: Analyst Kristoffer Inton on: October 03, 2018, 09:38:52 AM
As what we have read to some articles that bitcoin is considered as an investment vehicle just like gold. Some may find it ridiculous but as what we can see of bitcoin's performance for the past few years it has increased in a very profitable manner. Many investors' lives that were changed and some even regretted the fact of not investing into bitcoin.

I think there's no need to replace gold when we talk about investments vehicle since gold is tangible and will forever remain on this earth. They will coexist and can both give us profits.

https://zycrypto.com/bitcoin-not-ripe-to-replace-gold-analyst-kristoffer-inton/

Share your thoughts about this.

Gold and bitcoin are two structurally different things. Also bitcoin is just 10 years old, while gold is few centuries old and established as an investment vehicle. Even though a lot of people nowadays consider bitcoin as an investment vehicle, it should ideally be considered as a currency! So replacing gold or bitcoin by one another is not a sensible argument at all!

While gold is considered as wealth among many communities, bitcoin is especially popular among the tech-savy generation. But if we really want to see a sustainable growth for bitcoin, we must consider it as a currency and not as an investment.

5754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN VALUE INDICATOR SAYS PRICE ‘STILL OVERBOUGHT’ BUT BOTTOM ‘NEAR’ on: October 02, 2018, 09:22:55 PM

“Bitcoin is probably still overpriced, but the fundamentals are steadily improving while the average price of Bitcoin has continued to fall,” he wrote concluding the findings.

I would like to know what fundamentals bitcoin has?? It is not a stock or equity which will have fundamental characteristics!

I consider bitcoin as a digital commodity which has a production cost, mining! As per my point of view, bitcoin is not at all over priced at the current level. Instead it is far less than its generating cost considering the cost of mining equipment and electricity maintenance cost.

Currently only large scale mining projects are financially viable. Small miners with smaller capacity mining rigs have thrown out of the equation already. How come someone just say it is over priced when the matter if fact is that bitcoin is under priced by a great margin!

5755  Economy / Gambling discussion / Anyone betting on PUBG? on: October 02, 2018, 08:25:51 PM
If you are already playing PUBG, it needs no introduction. But if you are new, PUGB is an online arena fighting game available on Various platforms like android, iOS and Xbox.

It has become an internet sensation and the game has captured attention of a lot of youth in my country including me.

Suddenly someone forwarded me a link to a common whatsapp group which is mainly a competition that involves winning based on your gaming skill. The rule is simple,

1. You need to register by paying 20 rupees through paytm
2. You will get invitation to join a group
3. For each kill, you will get 15 rupees
4. Upload screenshot as proof
5. Receive money in paytm after each game

Link: https://www.toornament.com/games/pubg_mobile (I am not the owner of this link, nor I have played any game through their group, so I won't take any responsibility if you loose your money)

Does anyone know about any similar platform where people can do the same using cryptos?

If someone creates such tournament for PUBG for crypto payments, would you be interested? If yes, what will be a convenient entry fees for you?
5756  Economy / Speculation / Re: GBTC Premium Down 10%: Will Bitcoin Drop in Price or is ETF Hype Rising Again? on: October 02, 2018, 03:52:45 PM
The shift of interest is most unlikely. After recent denials by SEC in two separate instances have pulled out many confidence plugs from that sector. Unless there is a hope for Winklevoss ETF to be approved by SEC, I don't see a reason for shift of interest. This ETF has already been rejected twice and it is now under consideration for the third time.

I would rather link the incident of premium price decrease with the current stable market price of bitcoin. The market price of bitcoin is showing signs of stability around 6.5k since some time now. That may have caused the premium price for GBTC to come down just to cover the gap because bull market run may not be imminent. I don't see a bearish market anytime soon, but we also need to keep in mind that anything and everything can happen in crypto market.
5757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Five Major areas to Blockchain’s Mainstream Adoption - Deloitte on: October 02, 2018, 09:02:46 AM
One of the big four consulting firms, Deloitte has published a study on 28 September related to the blockchain technology and it's challenges towards mainstream adoption. The study title is "Blockchain and the five vectors of progress" and it is fairly a good read for the blockchain enthusiasts. The areas they have identified is as below,

1. Increasing throughput and performance:
2. Enhancing standards and interoperability
3. Reducing complexity and cost
4. Regulatory support
5. Multiplying consortia

Each points are described in a fairly easiest way in the study itself. That's why I haven't reiterated the same in this thread apart from quoting the main points. I encourage everyone to take out some time and read the entire study as it talks about some very good points that can overcome the barriers that are challenging mass adoption of blockchain.

Study link: https://www2.deloitte.com/insights/us/en/focus/signals-for-strategists/value-of-blockchain-applications-interoperability.html

Would like to know your thoughts and arguments!
5758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SEC Receives Letter from U.S. Congress Members Requesting Clearer Regulations on: October 01, 2018, 10:22:29 PM
I am not entirely sure if this letter relates to the proposal of Tom Emmar or not but I think it is. Read the below link,

https://emmer.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/emmer-spearheads-groundbreaking-legislation-support-blockchain?utm

US Congressman Tom Emmar recently proposed a clearer framework for the crypto regulation. The drafted proposal will be introduced in the upcoming assembly and if the proposal receives required number of support, it will have a Chance to become a law after few modifications if needed.

This unclear legal framework is the major bottleneck to the adoption of cryptos. Due to this reason, merchants are afraid to accept crypto as a payment option. If clear legal and taxing guidelines are published, then it will encourage more people to use it as a currency which will drive a sustainable growth for crypto market.
5759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Continues to Consolidate As Volatility Reaches Lows of 2018 on: October 01, 2018, 08:13:34 PM
Bitcoin BTC technical analysis for 1st October 2018. Bitcoin continues to consolidate as we enter Q4 of 2018. We have experienced a prolonged bear market for the first three quarters of 2018, will the last quarter be any different?

https://blokt.com/technical-analysis/bitcoin-continues-to-consolidate-as-volatility-reaches-lows-of-2018

I think the last quarter will exhibit a bullish market. We have been in the bear market for quite a very long time now since the year started. Hoping that by the last quarter there will be a recovery when it comes to bitcoin's performance in the market.

Whether we end this year a bear or bull market, I still believe in the technology and always supporting bitcoin. What are your thoughts on this guys?

I can't really deny the fact that the market is indeed showing signs for consolidation and stability. However, it is too early to say that it will continue for a longer period of time, because the crypto market is still on its base building phase. We can't really consider the crypto market as an old market because it is just 10 years old.

So at this point of time, one must not consider the market as a stable one even if it is showing some signs of it. Blockchain as a technology, is very new and the world is yet to undersrand it's full potential. We have only leveraged a minor percent of it!

Even though I personally believe that the crypto market will be recovered to some certain extent before the year ends. But that is completely based on my own intuition and experience.

We usually see such kind of stability in price of an equity before it takes a leap. But the same formula may not stand true for cryptos and we may see the reverse or vice versa. So I just keep my faith on bitcoin and the technology for the time being!
5760  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PM of Malta tells UN that crypto is the inevitable future of money on: October 01, 2018, 02:50:47 PM
Found this very interesting and just wanted to share with you guys. We need more people like this, people in positions of power, who realize the potential of this technology and are willing to preach it to other world leaders. I think this is progress, one small step at a time.

You can find the original article below:
https://cointelegraph.com/news/maltas-prime-minister-tells-un-that-crypto-is-the-inevitable-future-of-money

If such statement was given by the presidents of powerful countries like US, Russia or China, it would have been an international sensation by now. But since the statement came from a small county like Malta, no one really bothers!

It's great when we see a small country understands the value of something which is not yet recognized by superpowers. Because not everyone can read the future and not everyone can recognize an opportuntiy knocking at the door. Those who does, usually excels and outshine others by the achievements.

I wish Malta to have great success with their outlook on cryptos to be used an example to the rest of the sceptic world.
