I have been trying to think how it might be possible to create a UI to supply (at least part) of a hash that is somewhat like a password but nothing typed and nothing difficult to remember and came up with this idea: Picture a specific memory that is significant to you and let's go and find it: beach #-- party park sunbathing #-- music home swimming book lake volleyball clouds snow ... water #-- swimmer office ... shartk school dolphin #-- summer #-- early morning #-- happy ... whale winter mid morming sad boat spring late morning surprised ... autumn early afternoon amazed ... alarmed ...
Has this already been built (if so is there an open source version) and if not is anyone interested in doing so (for bitcoins of course)?

Great to see another one nearly there (was busy with the "competition" I was running so only got around to this now).
Another 5 BTC from CIYAM is on its way (tx 7213b4a6f7d7349730288b1fa4bb2b8420c914cc283db41fe99e82391a400f25).
Thank you once again, Ian, for your generous donation. Is it safe to assume that your entire contribution is meant for My Refuge House? I don't want to take this act of kindness for this particular cause for granted. The list has been updated, nonetheless. Yup - put it all in.

BTW - I'm compiling a summary of the results in the (reserved) second post to this topic and will be adding some "what we have learned" kind of notes to it also.

Ooops - my bad - didn't see the 1's (this event has been rather tiring for me)...
"3a5Y+3a5Y=2x3a5Y(at least)\n"
So the modified password was this? "13a5Y+13a5Y=2x3a5Y(at least)\n"
(without the quotes)
that's correct - thought that I'd try and make it "twice as easy (at least)"...
Oh - and the password was 3a5Y

Damn It. Just found the key and it had been swept already!
Must have been just seconds....

I wonder if I could issue another spend with higher fees and have it go to me.... ha ha. It's still unconfirmed.
If you don't manage to pip him with that then give me a BTC address and I'll send you 1 BTC for being so close!

I really like to thank all that made it through this marathon! I was rather surprised that my little riddle/puzzle turned out to be *so* hard for you all (guess it shows just how differently people think - especially old-timer's like myself).

Think of a type of graphical window system that has one letter...
I saw this as a regex dot and could be any char. But now I've mended my ways and changed my pattern list. Still a lot of variants possible.
and updated again... going once, going twice....
hmm... seems my way of thinking must be very different to the people trying to solve this puzzle.... let's try this then... 1p+1p=2.p ^ (my wife thinks I meant something else here *and* the equation is how you might/would "write" it down on paper)
Do they still teach writing these days Is this the reason no-one has guessed this? Let me list some simple math operations.... 1. addition 2. subtraction ...
Okay - am pretty sure this should be the final hint: and Go!
Actually the password really isn't so random (but the main part of the riddle/puzzle is really the "equation") but I am not going to give away anything more about that unless it isn't successfully brute forced within a day after the next hint...

Why would he deliberately generate 1Cpu?
Actually I didn't - that address was just a complete fluke (used ./vanitygen 1) - but good try - final hint not far off.

Unless you are trying to run a bitcoin service (where an "account" means a "user account") then I would advise you to stay well clear of bitcoin accounts (as they will confuse anyone who understands accounting). This is from my own personal frustration with trying to use them (now I just don't go there any more and yes I do my own accounting).

Well it seems like option (1) is going to be what we'll go with so if you can hang in there for another few hours you could still get lucky!
Well - we are not far off 350 confirmations and so well before we get to 400 I will just check whether those competing would rather: 1) I give a hint that will finish this in the next 10 hours or, 2) I add another 10 BTC and make the hint a little more vague.
Just to check I didn't fuck up I have recovered the private key (using the exact script posted along with my changed line) and sent 10 BTC.
EDIT: Oops I thought that would add to the bounty but apparently it didn't (I guess Bitcoin sent the output to the input) - will look at that tomorrow (have to sleep now).
