581  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What's generally considered the best pool to join? on: December 01, 2011, 12:32:34 AM
No, I think it was pretty well written. That's what comma's are for.

Proportional pools are all the same over time, their only difference will be in fees. A pool already makes its own BTC on every block found there, typically the fees that have been attached by transactions and donations. Get yourself in a pool that you like, without a fee, there are a lot to choose from.

If I may add my own 2 bitcents, you may enjoy 0% fee PPS style pools better at 870 MH/s.

I would recommend you do something like this:

These are a couple of rigs I have running. PM me if you would like some details.

You move out of the dc or you have some at home too?
583  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: I have 3 5970s on the way; now what? on: December 01, 2011, 12:02:36 AM
It can be done a lot cheaper than, for the rest of the parts, than what Unacceptable is saying. A 1000 watt psu is all you'll really need with an AMD sempron 145 and a MSI GD70 (just in case you want to expand later) and 1g of ram. Buy Used!

The PSU is going to be your largest investment, besides the GPU(s) and will run around $200 +/- $50 depending upon what you want, maybe less now. I know RandyFolds had a 1350W for sale a bit ago.

I have a GD70 with a seated sargas 145 and 1g of ram I'll sell you for 150 + s/h if you'd like as well.

I do recommend PCIe extensions because 5970's get very hot! Cablesaurus will get you there, don't buy used ones.

Everything after that is fairly plug in and go, especially if you go dedicated rig with a persistent LinuxCoin or BAMT USB. I'd recommend BAMT, it's much faster and easier to set up a rig that turns on and goes.

If you have anymore questions or need some help send me a pm.
584  Economy / Goods / Re: Xbox 360 - Used to be RROD - NO HDD/CONTROLLER - $40 SHIPPED on: November 30, 2011, 04:01:27 AM
And I just meant aren't all the power bricks the same wattage, not the xboxs.

That is also what I meant.
This is a first gen x360, although the second model to come out (first to include HDMI). I will PM you
585  Economy / Goods / Re: Xbox 360 - Used to be RROD - NO HDD/CONTROLLER - $40 SHIPPED on: November 30, 2011, 03:47:51 AM
No, they are all very different with very different issues in their own and different part manufacturers. Does it have an HDMI out?
586  Economy / Goods / Re: Xbox 360 - Used to be RROD - NO HDD/CONTROLLER - $40 SHIPPED on: November 30, 2011, 03:37:01 AM
How do I check the wattage in the block? Would that be US/EU? I'm in the US.

There should be a sticker on the power brick, or does it have a metal end that goes into the 360?
587  Economy / Goods / [WTS] 4 HD 5870's on: November 29, 2011, 11:22:01 PM
Back again with more 5870's!

I have 4 (to maybe 9 for the right buyer) more HD5870's I'm looking to part with. These are Dell 2XTG4's. Not the best OCer's but very very stable cards running 400MH/s and can go stable to 420MH/s but I don't run them there. About a month ago I went through my farm of 14 of these and applied new ArcticSilver and thermal tape to each, dusted and gave the heatsinks a well deserved alcohol spray and blow. These cards are in tip top shape and ready to mine a lot more.

Asking only $165 each & only $150 if you purchase more than one.

+1 purchasers will also receive molex to PCIe adapters as well if you would like.

I do have references, and a few very good ones.

Preferred payment would be equal value in BTC or Dwolla, MtGox.

588  Economy / Goods / Re: Xbox 360 - Used to be RROD - NO HDD/CONTROLLER - $40 SHIPPED on: November 29, 2011, 11:00:47 PM
It should never RROD again.

Doesn't matter what you do. I repair these horribly design bricks, there isn't anything you can do about it. I've even repaired a few dozen new slim ones.

Do you know what series it is? What is the wattage on the power brick?
I'll offer $30USD in BTC
589  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What's generally considered the best pool to join? on: November 29, 2011, 10:52:57 PM
Anything but Deepbit,

I still don't understand how they are one of the biggest.

That said, it's all personal preference. Personally I like the different varieties of proportional. When the pool hits a nice luck streak it's like winning the lotto! But, PPS and SMPPS (so long as the pool can produce) are nice as well for a steady income
590  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $500 — Butterflylabs, is it a scam? on: November 29, 2011, 10:48:26 PM
I think the 'big box' stores have proven in a so called capitalist economy, selling quantity far outweighs selling at an acceptable market price
591  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $500 — Butterflylabs, is it a scam? on: November 29, 2011, 10:30:21 PM
I would not pay $20 for gold it is fools like you that keep these ripoff prices in effect, you must bend over for ever new release from Apple too do ya...

Gold is one of the oldest currency on earth and most governments are scared of its purchasing power. If you don't think it's worth its trade price or higher, I take you for the fool.

NewEgg something. But they only ship to North America.

That was only for Black Friday, they are back up to $499.99.

593  Economy / Goods / Re: [ LOOKING FOR]Open Air Case that Can hold Up to 8 cards on: November 28, 2011, 02:13:17 AM
Dual PSU's, Linux

  • Consolidation
  • Power consumption
  • Mobility

Consolidation and mobility for ease of use. If you have any problem its easier to restart one machine and mobility because my power cost is rated for an initial 600KW of power at 0.04 and jumps to 0.14 after so my machine gets moved once a month every once in a while; yes, it's worth it.
I use less power than you would running two dedicated rigs. I only have to power one CPU, 1gb of RAM, one USB and one mobo.

Listed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7216.msg590121#msg590121

Board is a MSI BigBang Marshal B3. It has 10 rear USB ports with room for a lot more. When I move to FPGA's this one rig will be the ultimate hashing beast.
594  Economy / Goods / Re: [ LOOKING FOR]Open Air Case that Can hold Up to 8 cards on: November 27, 2011, 10:23:23 PM
What stability issues did you have? I've only restarted my 8 card rig once in the past two months. I have more stability issues with my rig that has a 5970 and two 5870's

Hold up, I'm a landlord and this is mostly the landlords fault. You never include a utility because you never know what your renter is going to do or how they live. Most include it just as an incentive to rent their unit, mistake #1.

That being said, if he has a contract/lease there is possibly a clause in there stating electricity use. If there is no cap in use or no clause, then yes, it is free electricity and is not grounds for eviction. The landlord is at fault here, though most fault should fall on the user, joint. I would be very interested to see what does happen when the landlord discovers what is going on. If your rig is open air, he can definitely boot you on grounds for a fire hazard.

So do you pay the people who win your auctions, just not the auctions you win?
