581  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Bitcoin Savings & Trust - Money Returned List (zero Monday, none reported Tues). on: August 22, 2012, 05:34:07 AM
I am trying to understand the logic of lenders... if they get all their coins back but a bitcoin is devalued from this month's highs by 100-200%, then what was the point of lending it out?
582  Economy / Securities / Re: Cognitive-LTC Possibility on: August 22, 2012, 02:01:37 AM
I don't think this is a good idea.  Just because you mine some asset doesn't mean you have to pay in that asset.
583  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] YABMC :: 55Gh Perpetual Mining Bond :: Coupons Now 2x per Week!! on: August 22, 2012, 01:55:51 AM
Why has this bond lost 70% of its face value from the original date of issue?

What has the projected increase in difficulty been since the date of issue?
584  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ransoming Business Model on: August 20, 2012, 06:57:26 AM
I worked out some of the bugs and finally have some content ready to ransom as a test. Also, I added the ability to customize pricing.

Here are some of the articles ransomed:

Notes and Thoughts is basically a collection of random thought and notes that may or may not be interesting. I documented my experience with the American medical system and wrote a short one paragraph summary of books I read recently. It's priced at 0.05 BTC.

Why I Unlicense is my essay on why I chose the public domain. It's priced at 0.01 BTC because the changes is really minor.

Why should you donate some bitcoin? Think of it as a donation to test out an interesting idea. Please note the balance do not yet update automatically.

How about ransoming off the code
585  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Seeds of distrust on: August 19, 2012, 12:41:42 AM

I guess sometimes the business model itself can be the trade secret. That being said, read his post on this forum and on IRC and you will get an almost clear picture about his business.

I call BS, say what he does if you know it.
586  Economy / Securities / Re: TYGRR.BOND-PI 1 BTC face 100% Insured Pirate Bonds BTCST on: August 18, 2012, 03:34:44 AM
Goat doesnt have to pay out till Pirate defaults which would be tuesday. It would be a shame to destroy such a  nice coin needlessly  Smiley
Just because pirate is shutting down doesn't mean he defaulted.

He announced the shut down, and if everyone gets back the coin they are owed, then it is a clean shutdown. No default.

587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jonathan Ryan Owens locked Rebate, Zip.A, Alberto & BDT thread on: August 18, 2012, 02:12:06 AM
There are some big questions about how he is managing his money.  People who saw ZIP or REBATE as good investments are going to bail regardless - a loan from a deadbeat is very different than a bond/equity in a growing business.

People shouldn't be putting money they can't afford to lose or to which they need short-term access into these ventures anyway, but the moment any question about how funds are being used arises people are going to become understandably reluctant to leave their money in the hands of the person whose actions are under scrutiny for another day/week/month/year.

There's nothing to stop those who are willing to wait for payment from voluntarily placing themselves at the back of the line, but there's also no reason why others shouldn't require more information about how funds have been spent to date and just how large the hole is before deciding whether they're prepared to wait for payment or not.  Some people will let their investment ride on faith and others will want to recover what money they can and invest it in projects they consider more viable.

With increased use of crowd funding comes increased accountability.  Investors aren't personal benefactors and that needs to be acknowledged by those seeking funding for their projects.

Just as a surveillance society with the ambition of making the world more open end up making a culture of secrecy, the bitcoin culture with its theme of anonymity will lead to a completely open society.  In the future I don't expect many in the bitcoin world will be willing to invest or loan to anyone not willing to publically release personal information and remove any attempt to have limited liability.

In a few months there will be bitscalper part 3 so be prepared.
588  Economy / Securities / Re: BTCMC share price down nearly 40% this week. on: August 17, 2012, 05:35:20 AM
Possibly because the dividend yield isn't as high as with other mining operations?

...but investors need to realize that BTCMC is the only security that reports their finances....

Unless a independent third party verifies these finances then saying this is not worth much.
589  Economy / Securities / Re: Using CC to invest in GLBSE? on: August 17, 2012, 05:20:13 AM
Hey guys?

Was just thinking about opening a credit card to investing in GLBSE. With an 14% annual rate,  (some cards even offering 0% interest for a year), would it atleast an 'ok' idea if you're responsible?

What are you guys thoughts about using a credit card to invest like 1-2k into GLBSE and make monthly payments off the dividends?

Back when savings accounts were giving 7% interest a year, I would take out credit card balance transfers and put them in the bank, then pay the minimum interest each month.  With that I had automatic payments set up and insured by FDIC.

If you look around you can get 0% balance transfers still.  Most though will charge a 3% fee.

I still would not do it by putting money into GLBSE.  First there is the bitcoin exchange rate risk and then there is the risk of losing your money to a scam.  Think about it, if you could borrow $50,000 and put in into GLBSE, why doesn't the asset creator just borrow the same way as you?
590  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] BDT - 3% weekly interest bond, backed by Bitdaytrade on: August 17, 2012, 05:15:21 AM
he is the bitscalper scammer, seems like he is failing again. scam or epic fail, who knows.

If that post does not say to get out, I don't know what will.

People should have take the 0.7/share offer.

592  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: August 15, 2012, 06:21:03 PM
Adam, spend like 10-25% of what you intended to spend, and if Murphy's Law works against you you'll be able to enter at lower point =)

Remember!:

You cannot count on any of Murphy's law (including this one).

True, but.. chances are if Adam decided to go all in now with what he sold at 9 or whatever, waiting so long for correction - it is very likely after he buys in, market will reverse. Of course this is just an esoteric realm which shouldn't be given much weight for making financial decisions, but it has some entertaining points ))

Shouldn't have got all out to begin with.

It's so hard to find all the info you need on GLBSE, the fact that it takes about a month to load a page doesn't help.  Anyway, it looks like its 20 "BP" to transfer a share.  I need to transfer close to 100,000 shares, before the ASIC stuff.  That comes to about 200 BTC.  ASIC would cost another 200 BTC.

The GPG idea is good, but it sound like an administration hassle.  Ugh.. really need to come up with something or someone needs to open an exchange that is responsive and doesn't charge exorbitant fees.  This is what happens when you have a monopoly.  Imagine the fees if there was only one Bitcoin pool.  Thank goodness for competition.

There is that other exchange Crypto(something), and mpex, I am not sure of their fees though.  mpex probably still has that 20 bitcoin creation fee.

Wasn't there a listing called POT or WEED that was delisted?
596  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] BFLS.RIG - BFL Hardware mining & Sales on: August 15, 2012, 03:53:18 AM
Hardware is in!

On another note, I went to true up the GLBSE account for shares.  I may have to abandon GLBSE all together and figure out some other method of dividend payments, because I simply can't transfer all the shares around that need to be transferred.  It would end up costing nearly 400 BTC to transfer all the shares, including the upcoming ASIC shares.  At the current market rate, it would cost me almost $5000 USD to *transfer* shares.  Selling those shares would cost 2.5x that, or nearly $12,000 USD.  Holy crap!

I have a trouble ticket open for GLBSE, but if they can't help me, I have to figure something else out.  I simply can't afford $5000 going towards fees for a simple transfer, much less $12,000 sale charges.

Ya'll might consider petitioning GLBSE for sane fees (and by sane, I mean fractions of a penny per trade/transfer or a flat rate).  Right now, the fees are absolutely insane with the current value of a BTC.

What is the fee for transferring shares?  It does not make sense that there is a few to transfer shares.  Companies create shares in the financial world all the time.

Maybe you can give GPG signed contracts.  The holders of those contracts can receive dividends to a specific address.  People can sell those contracts to other people and if the new owners need to change the payment address they can prove to you they own the share and you can change the address.  You can also allow people to trade in their GPG contracts for GLBSE shares for a fee that will cover the GLBSE fees.
597  Economy / Securities / Re: Proposed Security; Input? on: August 14, 2012, 09:40:39 PM

Your other option is to issue shares in a company in which case shareholders own a piece of the actual equipment used and receive the output minus costs.

I suggest you go with this option, or write up a contract that gives out shares for a percentage of the profits.

Example:

You have 100 shares in the mining company and each shares is worth 1% of the profits after taking account all the expenses.

I would stay away from mining companies that pay for the expenses with a certain number of shares.
598  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] [Stochastically.com] - Dividend Returns - updated daily on: August 14, 2012, 09:35:58 PM
WEEKLY Div Yield (%):
FOO.PPPPT: 13.65
BIB.PIRATE: 13.33

30Day Div Yield (%):
FOO.PPPPT: 33.72
BIB.PIRATE: 32.86

FOO.PPPPT is because it paid 2 dividends in the last 7 day period:
Time
2012-08-07 11:12   443.17   6331   0.07
2012-08-13 18:10   443.17   6331   0.07

BIB.PIRATE is the same reason
Time
2012-08-07 11:01   1072.98   15896   0.0675
2012-08-13 18:09   1073.3175   15901   0.0675

Tomorrow the extra dividend payment will drop off.

Several others weekly yields seem now doubled or screwed up...

which ones?

There don't seem to be any duplicate copies in the last week.  You might have observed an asset paying 2 payments within the last 7 days.

it says TYGRR.BOND-P paid out 20% odd....

Thanks for pointing that out.  There was a double record in the database.
