Bitbay is Poland’s largest exchange by trade volume, and is set to become the first international bitcoin exchange operating within India’s cryptocurrency markets. Bitbay Will Offer Demo Trading Before Launching Full Operations on August 24th BitBay Enters Indian Cryptocurrency Markets Bitbay has announced that it will be launching its exchange platform for the Indian cryptocurrency markets. Bitbay will be the first cryptocurrency exchange to offer altcoin trading – providing trading pairs for ethereum litecoin, lisk, monero, ash, and gamecredits. From August 14 Bitbay will offer demo trading that does not involve using real money, before launching full operations on August 24th. [2017-08-12] CoinGraph - India Completes Draft Proposal for Cryptocurrency Regulations  The government of India has already finalized as of early August 2017 the draft proposal recommending how to regulate the use of digital currencies in the country effectively. The plan was already submitted by the intergovernmental panel that was formed in April 2017 for said purpose to the Indian Ministry of Finance. The contents of the draft proposal are relatively unknown, but based on previous reports, some of the members of the panel favor the imposition of a stricter regulation against the use of the digital currencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin in the country. Others, meanwhile, have proposed that the Indian government should introduce some kind of a tax policy for the cryptocurrencies. Positions of cryptocurrency players on the issue Before the creation of the panel to study the existing framework for virtual currencies in India, startup companies involved with Bitcoin or the Blockchain technology have appealed to the government to adopt a more inclusive stance for the digital currencies. They also urged the government to clarify the exact legal status of the technology and the virtual currencies in order to enlighten the majority of consumers who are still confused on the issue. Other government efforts on the issue Meanwhile, the Indian government has continued to advance initiatives to study the regulatory environment for Blockchain and the cryptocurrencies. Among these programs is the creation of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) of a broad advisory committee that will conduct research on Blockchain and other technologies. According to SEBI, the goal of the project is to determine whether the technology can be integrated into its own regulatory processes. Bitcoin enthusiast? Now trade in ethereum, litecoin and ripple with INR from Aug 25 on Koinex Bitcoin enthusiasts in India will soon be able to trade similar cryptocurrencies as a group of engineering pass-outs from IIT and BITS will soon launch an exchange which will make this possible. The exchange, named Koinex, aims to enable trade in multiple cryptocurrencies with the Indian rupee and has plans to have inter-cryptocurrency trading as well. Speaking with Moneycontrol, Rahul Raj, co-founder of the company said that Koinex Beta will launch on August 25 and from the first day of operations it will support trade in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Ripple. At the launch, it will facilitate trade in digital currencies only with INR and has plans to support inter-cryptocurrency trades within two months from the launch. Raj, who himself got into crypto-trading in early 2017, said as there were not many options in India, he was compelled to trade on global exchanges like Coinbase and Poloniex. "After realizing the huge gap in terms of the quality delivered by global exchanges and the present Indian exchanges, we decided to build an Indian exchange supporting INR fiat currency and multiple cryptocurrencies, and thus Koinex was conceptualized," he said. "Koinex offers a highly competitive tiered trade fee schedule for high frequency trading. Crypto-financial instruments and other cryptocurrency products have already been conceptualized and included in the 1 year roadmap," he added. When asked whether the exchange will support the newly-born bitcoin cash or not, Raj said Koinex will support the longest chain of Bitcoin after monitoring for 20 days. Bitcoin gained a lot popularity and global acceptance in 2016 and has rallied around 200 percent year-to-date. Riding on the back of bitcoin's success, many similar digital currencies (altcoins) have seen a huge price rally since the start of the year. A study by India’s market and trade body has found that while 97 percent of participants are aware of bitcoin, its use within their services remains low. According to the report, the trade and industry body asked 223 stakeholders ranging from fabrics, electronic devices and automobile parts, to determine the impact that bitcoin was having in India. However, results found that while 97 percent of participants are aware of the digital currency, its use within companies remains low. Gopal Jiwarajka, President of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: Absence of the information about counterparties in the bitcoins transaction is a major drawback and may lead to unintentional transactions such as money laundering. He added that the use of bitcoin comes with huge risks and is not backed by any tangible asset, but sheer demand. Calls for Regulation This survey comes at a time when the Indian government is considering the regulation regime for bitcoin. Even though there have been calls in the past from Indian politicians to ban bitcoin, a recent report has found that India is unlikely to declare bitcoin illegal in the country. Instead, it may be considered a security, but its regulatory fate remains uncertain. Yesterday, it was reported that the Indian state of Karnataka is in the process of putting together a policy that focuses on digital currencies due to its rising demand. In particular, more young traders in the nation are being drawn toward bitcoin. In May, Coinsecure, an Indian bitcoin exchange, had to halt trading after recording a record number of users due to soaring interest and adoption of the currency in the country. And yet, even though bitcoin is gaining in India there are risks that still need to be considered, according to Jiwarajka. Bitcoins are a fascinating instrument, however highly volatile, and susceptible to high risk makes it a vulnerable instrument. According to him, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) should look into the idea of digital currencies and take a view on it and see whether it can become a tool for promoting a digital economy. Speaking to The Hindu Business Line, he stated: We are not proponents of bitcoins. But, as an industry chamber, we are furthering the debate.
