581  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: February 05, 2017, 07:11:04 PM
Clearly generating vanity addresses has zero affect on transaction fees.
I don't know if my question was unclear, I've changed my post a bit.

1 vanity input with 2 outputs: 257 bytes.
1 compressed input with 2 outputs: 225 bytes.

Doing the same with 11 inputs and 1 output gives a (relatively) larger difference, as inputs are larger than outputs.

Of course vanity addresses don't create larger transactions than "normal" addresses, that's not the point. The point is: compressed (input) addresses create smaller transactions, and if it would be possible to generate compressed vanity addresses, you could have the best of both worlds.

Ahh ok that makes a hell of a lot more sense. It does seem like a very small issue though as that's not even a 1% increase in size. At the risk of sounding like a newb, are there other differences like this in other 'normal' bitcoin addresses? If I generate 2 random addresses and they each have the same number of inputs I always assumed they would both be the same size in bytes.

Could someone direct me to where exactly this lifeboat vanitygen is? Can I download it from github or am I missing something? Also could you link me to where it's explained what is does/if it's different/why it's better? Googling just keeps coming up with reddit post after reddit post but no real information for me... Sorry for the newb questions rofl.

http://lifeboat.com/oclvanitygen

It will start the download right away.

Thank you very much!

I recently transfered 11 inputs from a vanity addy, and it made me realize the transaction gets quite big, which requires higher fees. Using vanity addresses also adds to the already large number of unconfirmed transactions.

I just found out Lifeboat supports compressed keys, which is 15% faster (source: README in this zip) than regular keys! But it's specialized for AMD, and available for Windows only. So I can't use it.
The last version of vanitygen is 4 years old now. It would be very nice to see an update that includes compressed keys. Unfortunately I don't have the skills to chance the source myself. It might be a relatively small change to add compressed keys.
If generate a specific address make the transaction fees goes higher and add more time/user to unconfirmed transaction, then is it worth to do? As we should be fine with our random address right now as long as it works just like others and safely to transact through it. Maybe it will be cool to have your name at the address but consider the side effects of it. Well, I would like to see newest vanitygen than what left for 4 years.

Thanks for stopping by. Stay longer next time to learn a little bit. Clearly generating vanity addresses has zero affect on transaction fees.

You signature spammers crack me up...

584  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: User: 0x0010 possibly alt of Robertt on: February 02, 2017, 07:05:00 PM
Someone just confirmed me 0x0010 and Robertt are same. I will share the proof with a trusted member soon.

Share it with me as well mate, would love to see your "proof."
Doesn't matter to me as you have already been flagged by Vod.Either way,you will come back again with a shill account, try waste money building reputation and paying back small loans with high interest, only to realize you will be tagged again by the DT when I convince them you're a scum.Better luck with the next account,Robertt.

You're cute

@op where's the "proof"? lol

Lol well that didn't take long. I guess you felt threatened so it was time for the end game right? You are officially painted red. We'll be waiting around for your new alt. Feel free to leave though! That would be a much welcomed change for the better.
585  Economy / Goods / Re: [Price Drop] 3x New Unopened BlackBerry OEM Headphones 0.01BTC Each + shipping on: February 02, 2017, 03:33:51 PM
Sorry guys, I really thought I was getting email notifications for this thread! Gah!!!

I would have to assume these would work with any phones because they're just for a regular 3.5mm headphone jack.

Also, no I'd rather not wait another year hahahahahaha! 2017 is when these are going to sell Wink.

I'll get a quote for both of you.
586  Economy / Goods / Re: [Price Drop] 3x New Unopened BlackBerry OEM Headphones 0.01BTC Each + shipping on: January 30, 2017, 03:50:24 AM
After a year these are still for sale! What a wild year it's been...
587  Economy / Goods / Re: [Price drop] Create secure paper wallets with an Ubuntu Live USB 0.02BTC each on: January 30, 2017, 03:47:41 AM
I can do pretty much whatever Linux distribution you'd like, for example I have both a 32bit and a 64bit Linux mint 18.1 USB currently. I can also give an in depth guide for starting up a live USB (no hard drive even needed in the computer)! Mint is a little more user friendly for Windows users IMO.
588  Economy / Digital goods / Re: 🔥Dzairy Shop - Antivirus Keys - Edu Emails - Subscriptions - Digital Ocean🔥 on: January 26, 2017, 09:56:56 PM
I got a vouch .edu email and it looks like it was created this past Friday. I haven't had time to look into what kind of discounts or perks I can get with it yet but I'll be trying some things out soon. I'll update this once I'm able to do some tests in that regard.

Much thanks to dzairy for the vouch copy!
589  Economy / Digital goods / Re: 🔥Dzairy Shop - Antivirus Keys - Edu Emails - Subscriptions - Digital Ocean🔥 on: January 24, 2017, 07:27:02 PM
I'll take a vouch copy for the .edu email. Are you making them fresh or do I just get any random email you currently have in stock? I'm interested to see if it will work for the unlimited google drive offer.
590  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: OK IM A PRO AT THIS IN 5 DAYS SINCE I on: January 24, 2017, 07:02:37 PM
I tried coinbase for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I was supposed to get a $10 referral bonus and so was the person who referred me. Neither of us got the bonus, I've had an automated response (After about a week) asking if it was still an issue (obviously it is, this is your first contact with me!) and then after saying yes it's still an issue it was almost another week until I got yet another automated response. Long story short, I didn't get my $10 bonus. I don't recommend a company that literally screws up the first transaction with a client. If they screwed up and got it to me, whatever. Mistakes happen. What they did though is blamed me the client and said that I must have doe something wrong.

Stay away from coinbase. I don't trust them whatsoever. Hopefully my usual exchange comes back up but they seem to be having some issues at the moment so couldn’t really recommend them either!

In terms of what wallets I use: Paper wallets made on any sort of live system (Ex: Ubuntu Live CD or USB) for large amounts of funds and Mycelium for my hot wallets. You can also add watch only addresses so you can keep an eye on your cold storage bitcoins (or anyone elses bitcoins for that matter!)
591  Other / Meta / Re: Forum overloaded can intermittent connection all the time. on: January 24, 2017, 06:41:05 PM
I keep getting a 502 error. This happened a few times the other day (Sunday maybe? I can't remember) but it wasn't as bad as today. It just took me 15 minutes to log in.
592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Markit manipulation in China or ... on: January 23, 2017, 06:55:43 PM
All three at the exact same time need to have a minimum of a 0.2% rate by noon on Tuesday. I think we'll see a lot less volume from Chinese exchanges starting.... NOW!
593  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: User: 0x0010 possibly alt of Robertt on: January 23, 2017, 05:16:16 PM
How much have I given out:

0.07 BTC (giveaway & fees)
0.05 btc worth of interest on loans(?)
A bunch of stuff worth 0.020, etc. I could go on but it would take forever.

Trust farming. I hope I'm wrong, but when it comes to bitcointalk scams I usually see them a mile away.

I've also done plenty of exchanges for PayPal -> btc, gift cards, etc. The PayPal ones have had no problems whatsoever and the people I bought/sold gift cards to have had no complains.

That's where the big money is. Thanks for confirming. Your account has 56 activity so you've been here about 2 months (on this account). Everyone knows PayPal can be charged back until 180 days (most likely more if it's fraud). That argument is irrelevant. A Ponzi owner won't scam after 2 months, he'll scam after 2 years once he has people's life savings.

Anyways, I guess you're not about to come clean with who you really are so this isn't going to go anywhere until more evidence is found.

If there isn't any then great, but don't think for a second that us people on bitcointalk are going to take our tinfoil hats off. Everyone wants to steal our bitcoins!
594  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: User: 0x0010 possibly alt of Robertt on: January 23, 2017, 04:43:20 PM
It was obvious that the user in question was someone's alt from day one.

100% agree on that comment Lauda. Regardless of whether this person is Robertt or not the trust farming and trust loans are so blatantly obvious that I would never ever deal with this user. Right from the get go they hit the ground running and knew exactly what to post and how the forum worked in it's entirety. I have also assumed it was Robertt but of it isn't hey, better safe than sorry.

If you're Robertt then everyone will be glad this post surfaced. If you're not then great, who's alt are you? If you come clean then there's really no reason not to trust you (other than the obvious loan trust farming. How you got a 0.08BTC loan as a Jr. Member is beyond me. The lenders here better check their lending policies before they get burned again.)
595  Other / Off-topic / Re: Update: Got a nice laptop for under $100 out of pocket. Anyone know about eGPUs? on: January 19, 2017, 10:18:17 PM
I was thinking of the razer as soon as you mentioned external gpu for a laptop. Embarrassed
But then I remember reading about another one from another manufacteur.
Asus from the ROG line up I think that was the one I was thinking of. But then again it might be using the thunderbolt technology.
But never the less,
Great find on getting a laptop for nearly nuthin' at all!  Grin

They all seem to use the thunderbolt. I'm sure there's a way to do it (maybe the cable mentioned below?) But it's well outside of my relm of understanding. I just opened up my first laptop this week haha.

Are you sure the laptop doesn't have mini pcie?

If not, this may work with a low power gpu. You will need a power supply as well.

Am I sure? Nope. It's an acer V3-571-6447. I've googled it but all I could find is that it doesn't have one. That could be wrong as I haven't actually popped it open to check. Even if I did I don't know what I'm looking for so I'd have to google that too haha.

I didn't even realize that people were using external GPUs with their laptops. I think this is pretty damn cool. There are lots of hits if you google the terms. Here is a howto I found: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2984716/laptop-computers/how-to-transform-your-laptop-into-a-gaming-powerhouse-with-an-external-graphics-card.html

I found that article way too wordy and there's no real how to... Idk why they call it a how to. I think my laptop doesn't have a pci-e connector so I probably can't use an external GPU anyways. That's from what I've been reading up on anyways.

Does your laptop have a thunderbolt port? Here is a DIY using that port for the GPU. Nice pics of the build as well. But it looks like a hell of a process. If I were doing this I would just build a gaming rig.

http://lab501.net/egpu-connecting-external-video-card-notebook-diy-implementation/all/1/

Ya I figured out the external GPU won't work for this laptop. Oh well. I got everything else that I wanted (more actually) and I'm installing an optical drive hdd caddy when it arrives in the mail. I'll probably dual boot Linux mint and windows 8 or 10.
597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New Bitcoin Survey - heir of the Simulacrum one on: January 18, 2017, 02:26:20 AM
I went ahead and did the survey, some questions I skipped over (I'd rather not disclose how many bitcoins I have) but I answered the important ones. Haha no we don't all use bitcoins for drugs. People that do CLEARY have no clue about bitcoins. It's a public ledger. Why would I want everyone in the world to be able to see when I bought illicit drugs!? Cash works much better haha but you won't see those statistics on the mainstream media.
598  Other / Meta / Re: [Controversial] Who's to blame when an account gets hacked? on: January 18, 2017, 02:09:19 AM
Why are people even voting for lenders ? If the hacked account is asking for a loan,it is completely the owner's fault that due to improper precautions taken the hacker managed to hack the account. Not only lending but also trading or anything general that happens with the hacked account is solely owners fault.

If I go and buy a legendary account for 0.01BTC with no signed message and it turns out to be hacked, should I be allowed to keep that account? I can tell you what's going to happen. The original owner of the account signs a message in a  to Theymos and the account is stripped from me. Why did it happen to me? I didn't get the signed message.
599  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy at $780-800 USD on: January 13, 2017, 02:10:19 AM
It's great for a trader to experience this level of volatility. I am only buying for the purpose of trading as all my other coins that I have for holding purposes are bought below the $300 level. In that regard, it's not interesting for me to pile up even more coins at these levels. That being said, somehow I have the feeling that we may drop further down till a point where we may settle below $800 for a couple of days. Just make sure you have some money left in case the price drops down further. If you buy in smaller fractions then you might even buy all the way down. It will average down your buying price significantly. Never go all in.

It's called dollar cost averaging and it's a great way to invest over the longterm. It actually mitigates your risk because you avoid putting a lot of money in all at once. You'll see a steadier fluctuation with your funds rather than huge spikes up and down.

I just bought some more bitcoins for the long-haul!
600  Other / Off-topic / Re: Suffering Health condition, seeking BTC paying job from home on: January 13, 2017, 01:59:30 AM
Absolutely there is a spot here for you! I'd say don't sell yourself short (so don't charge a small amount to try and earn a little) and really show what you can do. Open up a thread under Services and people will test you out. A lot of people are looking for full time jobs so there's a ton of competition. If you're good at what you do you'll have success though. Also check out https://www.xbtfreelancer.com

Also look out for contests where people are looking for the best designs. Even if you don't win it's a good way to show off your work. If someone else prefers your work they may hire you for another project.
