Hello team, I am really hoping someone can help here. I am on my second MSI z170A carbon and I can not get a boot screen to show up. I have followed the guide and not installed any gpu's and am using the onboard HDMI and tried the onboard dvi. Tried 2 different monitors, also 2 sets of ram and 2 different procs. When I watch both of them boot i see the diagnostic lights flash for ram and cpu but never for vga. I have reset the cmos. Am I missing something here?

Mem: Kingston HyperX FURY Black 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 2133MHz DDR4 Non-ECC CL14 DIMM Desktop Memory (HX421C14FBK2/8)

Your problem seems clear. As far as I know, 7th gen is kaby lake cpu and the z170a mobos are not compatible. You either need a skylake (older) cpu or a z270a mobo to support a kaby lake cpu. |

I see the 4gb is v3 while the 8g is v2.2
I heard the 4gb one is just slightly faster hashing, any other difference?

Do you modify bios or do anything else? Overclock and others.
You need to modify the bios to get 27-30mhs.. there are guides on this forum and on google to mod the memory strap timing based on your memory type. Worth it and easy enough imo Truthchanter for best hash/watt you suggest rx470 or rx480? What Brand is better? thanks! Whatever is cheapest in my opinion, I get best hashrate with samsung mem. Sometimes its random whether you get samsung or not but there seem to be some models that certainly have samsung |

For the elpidas, what strap timing are you using? 1500 or 1625? and I'm assuming 1500 for hynix?

My mobo (z87-quad deluxe) has 7 slots for gpus. But it resets its bios after plugging in last riser and power on. On reset only thunderbolt is enabled. My question is can I hot plug the riser to mobo after initial post, so I can get away?
Anyone else know about hot plug support of risers?
yes, you can do that. you can also drop yellow ice on your system. results would be the same. If it does not see if you can disable something it the bios that takes up resources that you don't need.. yellow ice? I don't think you can hot plug a pci slot like that... sounds like he's being sarcastic |

because it can mine efficiently bitcoin much better than any gpu, for example
one asic antmienr s9 is running at 14TH, the most powerful gpu only 1gh, you can see here that one single asic is 14,000 times more faster than a gpu, while consuming only 14x of a gpu
1000 times more efficient, for the best gpu right now 1070 nvidia and 470/480 amd are the best choice
AMD RX 470 4GB ? That's pretty good for altcoin mining, I'd suggest AMD over Nvidia for this anyways since Nvidia cards just seem to have issues with a lot of mining softare But do keep in mind you have to watch the thermals on the card just as you would for an ASIC miner. I've burnt two cards in the past  How hot were you letting them get? |

Have to install the newest mobo bios though but glad I found something reasonably priced
I am not sure this will work, I found a thread talking about the same board and how to get 7 working on it. I bought the board, followed all the steps and at card number 5 Windows and Linux both crash. Needless to say I have a expensive MB only running 4 cards Hmm and you got specifically the 1.7 mobo bios update? set pci slots to gen 1? enable above 4gb decoding? |

I read the MSI Z97 GAMING 5 can mine with 7 gpus.. however the price seems pretty high compared to the available 6gpu boards.
Are there other motherboards that are available and cheaper than can mine with 7 gpus?
I read about just a bit about there being a pci splitter but does that work just as well as a regular 7gpu mobo?

Well it works, got my hynix cards up-to 28.3MH ETH and my samsung cards up-to 31.5MH Eth all 4GB powercolor cards. Also to all the people making tools for us here it would be nice to have donation addresses so that we can send you some tips. Are you using the 1500 strap for hynix and 1750 for samsung? and what mem clocks did you use to get those (specifically the samsung)? For me I use the above straps and clock hynix at 1900-1925 (1950 if its stable) and 2050-2100 for samsung (although Im wondering if i can go higher than 2100 on some samsung chips) |

if undervolted or overclocked, try default settings, maybe try 1 gpu at a time, try different risers?
