581  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sapphire rx 470 red box original or not? on: March 13, 2017, 07:12:23 AM
I buy in bulk, and someone recently suggested buying directly from the OEM for Sapphire, which would mean the exact same card, but not exactly from sapphire, it would basically be a brand less card, for much cheaper.
So unbranded/counterfiets exist. But they usually state upfront that this is not from any brand, and sell in simple brown boxes. This looks more like localized Box art, check with local Sapphire contact just to be sure.

Hello! Sorry for offtopic question , but what is the advantage of using powered risers ? I was using 1x-1x unpowered risers with H61 BTC PRO ( wich has 2x MOLEX power plugs) for 2 yr. and had no problem with it.

The Current series of graphics cards, the RX 470/480 pull almost 1/3rd of their power from the PCIe slot directly so unpowered risers would either not work or simply burn out. Older cards work fine with unpowered risers though, since they draw almost all of their power from the PSU power cable.

I must say that Radeon cards are generally better suited for mining purposes. They have a problem of emitting a lot of heat and tend to work in very hot temperatures. I still insist these are better but if you put them in a board like MSI or BIOSTAR with 6 GPU slots and make sure to have 3-5 coolers as long as your PC case can take, Corsair and Cooler Master do a pretty good job.

You may say that why investing in a case when I use PCI raisers , well the answer is simple, I have tried a mining rig I build for a friend with 6 RX 480 8GB Gpu from MSI and add 5 RGB Coolers inside a Full Tower Case this friend of mine already had. Temperatures of the GPU-s are about 8-15 degree colder from what I see in youtube videos so you may want to try out this idea of me and my friend.

That sounds interesting, would be great if you could share pictures of the case mod that you did to fit 6 cards in it Smiley

If you try reducing the core/memory frequency or intensity, does that increase the stability?

Hey, yeah, I tried leaving it at stock clocks, and even tried flashing the stock bios back, but no luck. Leaving all BIOS settings at default also does not fix this issue of the system freezing every 20 hours or so.
The older BIOS worked perfectly though, and this board comes with dual bios so that is a big plus, but its funny how manufacturers keep breaking things in updates.

@ deadsix - If you can return the MB, do so.  This MB is a pain in the a$$ and BIOSTAR support sucks.  I've only tried 4 MB out of my 15 and issues I've seen is enough for me to smash them.   For Mining the Biostar TB85 is good.  Cheap, no fuss and everything is fully detected by Windows / SimpleOS, no network driver or anything needed.  There's money left over to buy sexy LEDs to wrap around it.  =)

Haha yeah luckily I only have one of the Z170GT7 , and it doubles up as my primary gaming PC. It does work quite well with 4 cards and the older BIOS (which i backed up, luckily) so i'm going to stick to that for now.
Have been meaning to test out the TB85's over the H81 Pro BTC V2's simply because I see no point in buying a headless dongle for EACH system on a MINING MOTHERBOARD ... I mean what was Asrock thinking, this is V2 for petes sake, what was the point of the revision if you can not fix the single most annoying bug that existed in V1.
Anyways, Hoping for the Biostar TB250 boards to show up soon.

agree on the RX 470 but not on Sapphire. out 50 24 cards have been leeking cooling ooil on the RX 470 4Gb Nitros

I also have suffered from leaking oil on 8gb Sapphire Nitros, they work fine, but doesn't make them look too attractive for resale when you want to upgrade.

Yup, leaking too, but that's not oil, that's thermal grease from the pads, non conductive and not harmful for the card or any other component.

I would be willing to buy some of your racing mobos, they are fininky but i did find as long as you follow these steps they work ok :

1. Install windows do not do anything with the bios.
2. Update bios using their bios flaher tool, this will cause you to have to reinstall the OS

at that point you can swap out the 6th gen cpu if you want for a kaby lake variant since the new bios works with those, you can also do the setting changes to allow for 6 cards.
I did find that on these boards PCI-E slots can go dead.  One of mine went dead on my first board luckily i only do 5-6 card rigs so it was no big deal.

The Biostar Board is giving me stability issues after the BIOS update. I was running it with 4 cards earlier, now post the BIOS update I switched all lanes to Gen 1, changed Max Tolud to 3.5 and havent added cards yet.
But with the same 4 cards, my system freezes once a day. I had to switch to the secondary bios to get back to stability. Any Ideas?
587  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 470 / GTX 1060 / RX 480 / GTX 1070 on: March 12, 2017, 10:14:13 AM

COST 4 me.
RX 470 - U$$ 246,00
RX 480 - U$$ 291,56
GTX 1060 - U$$ 262
GTX 1070 - U$$ 485

I ONLY buy RX 470's for the fastest ROI, and at your budget you could build a 4 card rig with those. Go with Sapphire as they are the best board partner.

or you could just simply try my simplemining.net OS which works out of the box Smiley
No dummy plugs needed or any screens connected.

Haha Sure tytanick, the day we can undervolt in linux I am switching all my machines to your OS Smiley

Question to anyone Running Asrock H81 Pro BTC V2 boards, what do you guys do for headless starts?

I use an emulator like this https://www.amazon.com/CompuLab-fit-Headless-Display-Emulator/dp/B00FLZXGJ6/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1489268350&sr=1-1&keywords=emulator .

Hmm has anyone tried el-cheapo HDMI to VGA adapters that are like under $3?
590  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question to anyone Running Asrock H81 Pro BTC V2 boards on: March 11, 2017, 10:03:05 PM
With which GPUs? i'm using this card with 6 Nvidia GTX 1070 without issues. My onboard card is enable but with afterburner i can manage temp and clock.
Hey, so I read that people have issues with AMD GPU's, and I have the RX 470/480's. I edited my original post to mention this, thanks for pointing it out, I should have specified.

What do you guys do for headless starts with AMD RX 470/480 cards on this board? I am unable to apply clocks/volts or fan control to the cards if the onboard vga is enabled, and system doesn't boot if it isn't. I am surprised because these boards are the darling of miners, and these are the ONLY boards that I have encountered this stupid problem on, and I have used several other MSI, Gigabyte, Biostar and even ASrock boards without a hiccup ever. So far this is my understanding of the options :

1) Have an HDMI Cable connected to the primary display adapter and have the monitor powered on when booting the system up, but that means buying multiple monitors and is not cost effective.
2) Buy a dummy HDMI Plug, but even those run upto $15-$20 including shipping, and the costs quickly mount up for a large setup. And besides, the plug has no other use/resale.
3) Hardcode clocks/volts into the card bios - but very few people know how to hardcode vddi/vddc into the bios, and I need to have my cards run on ultra low power settings.
4) Enable On-board VGA, but that means running cards at stock speeds/volts and forgoing the ability to monitor fan speeds and temps. Also, i run windows 10 and apply clocks/volts at each boot using wattool, but if the on board vga is enabled wattool settings arent applied at all, and cards run at stock clocks/volts.

I would like to know if there are any cheap effective hacks that you guys have found and/or use.

This is some nice airflow setup, can you be more specific about pulling the AC air from the ground?

This is a typical DC airflow diagram bro, most if not all data centers are designed like this ...
595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v8.0 (Windows/Linux) on: March 10, 2017, 01:01:03 PM
Is there a dual miner ETH/zec scheduled ?

There is no point in an ETH/ZEC dual miner because both the algos stress the GPU similarly. Dual miners only make sense when one algo is only core focused, and the other is only memory focused. That being said, you can run both claymores ETH miner and ZEC miner together if you reduce intensity for both, but its half assing the whole thing and doesn't make a lot of sense.

Okay Everyone, Time to hop aboard the Hype Train.

This Board from jstefanop that can do 16 cards :

Here another little teaser for you guys  Grin
Finished the second dev board and have 4 more GPUs coming in so should be able to test the full 16 GPU setup. I was knocked out with strep all last week so didn't have time to work on the project Sad

And this PSU/nanoPSU/cabling from finskey/j4bberwock that can power 16 cards :

The "Double A (Antminer/Avalon)" Package - $190

Enough to power 2x Antminer S9's for as cheap as possible
 - 1x 2880W PSU
 - 1x Breakout board
 - 20x 24" PCIe cables
 - 1x C19 power cable of choice (see below for stock)
Order components without PSU for $115
Upgrade to IBM 2980W Platinum PSU for an additional $30
Note: I would recommend the 2980W Platinum PSU packages to power 2x of the new Antminer T9's, but these will still be at 97% load.

And we have the ULTIMATE GPU mining setup. Now get talking you two, and bring us a bundle Cheesy

Holy Ballsacks Batman, 16 on one board, this would be a big one. I hope you will be able to supply to small time end users, since im expecting farms to swarm all over you anytime now Cheesy
Are you by any chance using something like this http://amfeltec.com/products/gpu-oriented-cluster/
598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Z170 Z170A BIOS setting 7 GPU mining success on: March 09, 2017, 08:37:06 PM
I want to buy new version MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon or Asus Prime Z270-A.
Do you think that it will be working with all PCIE slots (6/7 GPUs)?
I've got asus z270-a. 7 gpu works fine

Could you post a screening of your system running 7 cards off an Asus Z270 a?

Thank you man, that's great news, I guess ill order one right away Smiley
599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Biostar TB250 - Kaby Lake 6 slot PCIe Mining Motherboard on: March 09, 2017, 02:10:03 PM
I just received the Biostar TB250-BTC board + Intel G4560.   Installed 6 RX470 GPU on it, and it works fine!
It's about 10-15W lower than the Asrock H81 Pro BTC + Intel G1840 I swapped out.
It's about USD 83 here.

That's great news man, now I wish Biostar will start shipping it outside China.
Btw, if you ordered it online, could you please share a link?

At this point, can you show serial Number for Samsung Memory? Thank you.
Mentioned above already. I would still recommend always checking in GPUz before you begin modding the card.
above we are talking about hynix and elpida...
nothing about samsung memory

Sapphire RX 470 4GB (Ref style) Memory Variants and their Max Hash Rates :
.
.
.
3: Samsung Memory Variant (31 cards average)
Cards with Serial Number beginning with A1640XXXXX or A1644XXXX have Samsung memory, easy to mod, perform the best, stable at high clocks
Stock : 1216/1750 - 24.6Mh/s (solo mining ETH)
Max : 1150/2025 - 30.2Mh/s (dual mining ETH and Pasc with dcri 9)

How can you miss this?
