5801  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Are you holding Bitcoin? on: December 10, 2019, 03:06:50 PM
And for investors who like to "trade", certainly Hold is not their choice, because the short-term waves are the time when they make the best profit.
When I think of the term "investor" I generally don't think of people who actively trade something--those folks are traders, or speculators.  Investors are long-term holders IMO, but I guess that's just semantics.  Anyway, I could never be an active trader.  I've tried it with small amounts of crypto and in the stock market, and it's too nerve-wracking for my blood.

I do hold a little bit of bitcoin and don't plan on selling it any time soon, so I guess you could call me a hodler.  These crazy price swings don't really bother me since I've been around long enough to know that they're normal--but that doesn't mean I'm not hoping bitcoin doesn't crash down to $5k or lower.  The lower bitcoin goes, the harder it is for it to recover.
5802  Economy / Reputation / Re: I'm just posting my own experience on: December 10, 2019, 02:47:28 PM
Not much but sometime, because English is not my native language
Please don't use it to make posts like this in the English section, because they're really hard to understand.

I reported the OP because I'm not sure this is a Meta topic, but I could be wrong.  I'm not sure where else it would belong, but this isn't a forum issue really.

Qustion: Why posting almost every post scam related?
This is part of what I don't understand.  Most posts on the forum aren't "scam related" so I don't know what you're thinking.  If you got scammed I feel sorry for you, but what do you want us to do?

So now i decided not to silent, i will not stop posting untill i save someone.
I'd advise you to rethink that strategy or at least try saving people in your local board.
5803  Other / Meta / Re: Posts in my profile that I had not made on: December 10, 2019, 02:38:00 PM
You can check your own IP logs here: https://bitcointalk.org/myips.php
Dang, I didn't know about that functionality--that's pretty neat.

And it's very strange that someone apparently used OP's account to make posts but didn't completely take over the account.  That's suspicious, and if that's what really happened then he got really lucky.  Usually when accounts get hacked, the hacker changes the password and the owner can kiss their account goodbye.
5804  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoin could be 6000$ soon give us your opinion on: December 10, 2019, 02:21:56 PM
hello we all see a few movement Indicate that btc will go down to 6k
What movements are you talking about and why do you think they point to $6k?  I'd really love to know what the hell you're talking about here.

As I write this, bitcoin is at around $7300 and has been waffling for weeks or months--I lose track of time when bitcoin is stuck in a tight range.  Last time it was in such a range it broke out to the downside, so it's quite possible when bitcoin starts to move again it could be toward $6k.  Possible, but I'm really really hoping that doesn't happen.  We're so close to 2020 and I have all my fingers and toes crossed that it's going to be a great year for bitcoin and crypto in general.

And I doubt bitcoin's going to go that low anyway.  I don't know that for sure, of course, but it's just a feeling I have.
5805  Other / Meta / Re: Who are owners of this forum? (Bounty Manager or Users?) on: December 10, 2019, 01:59:17 PM
The OP's post here makes my head spin, it's so hard to understand.

Yeah, it's not against the rules to have alt accounts.  Even some DT members do, and it's no secret and there isn't any forum drama or anything about that fact.  The problem is when members use alt accounts to enroll in the same bounties or campaigns, or if alt accounts are all posting in the same thread, because that becomes a spam issue--and I've seen that recently in a thread.

The fights are tiring and annoying.
Then don't read them.  You'll just become tired and annoyed.

Forum rules clearly say "You can use different accounts". Even this is encouraged.
In this case, it is ethical to participate in signature campaigns on different accounts.
In this case, participating in signature campaigns on different accounts is not "abuse".
The forum rules don't say anything about campaigns.  You made that leap yourself.

It's not "ethical" to enroll multiple accounts in one campaign or bounty.  It's selfish, because you're taking up spots that could go to some other member, plus it's probably against the rules of the campaign anyway.  It is abuse, and you're not going to change anybody's mind with your argument.
5806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi should be in Time's influnetial person of the decade list on: December 10, 2019, 10:08:13 AM
I love how this thread's OP got plagiarized over at cryptotalk.org, complete with the misspelling in the title.  That forum is a running joke.

How much material do you think Time magazine would have on Satoshi, anyway?  I doubt it would be enough to write an article on, unless the article was more focused on bitcoin than on Satoshi.  Plus while bitcoin might be extremely popular with us on the forum, it hasn't exactly changed the world in any appreciable way, and that's just the cold hard fact of the matter.

Those lists are a bunch of BS anyway.

5807  Other / Meta / Re: Be polite on: December 09, 2019, 11:40:16 PM
<snip>
All good points, and yes, Theymos is very pro freedom of speech, which includes being able to express some rudeness.  I wouldn't want this forum to be sanitized to the point where we constantly have to self-censor so as not to offend someone.

This can be a very prickly forum at times.  We've got senior members at each others' throats and we've got shitposters and scammers being called out for it--it's hard to express genuine sentiment in those situations if your aim is not to hurt people's feelings and to be polite.  It just doesn't work and frankly I wouldn't have it any other way.  Either grow a spine and stick up for yourself or go find a nice forum about fluffy Disney characters.

OP, are you thinking of any specific examples you've seen recently?  It'd be nice to see what you consider rude.
5808  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price 2020 on: December 09, 2019, 11:27:45 PM
If Bitcoin goes back to $ 1000, I'il buy it.
Gaah!!  You'll buy it, but it would suck big time for pretty much everyone who's bought bitcoin in the past few years and I'm hoping bitcoin never goes that low again.  Nothing's impossible, of course, but there would have to be some seriously bad news for $1k to be a possibility.

I'm tired of waiting. I'm waiting for the bitcoin price to go up. A Bitcoin price of $ 20k may happen soon.
Dude, there's nothing you can do and I would suggest that if you're getting impatient with the market you might be watching the price way too much.  Just take a break for a while from whatever site it is you're using to look at it and try to relax.  I don't know if $20k is going to be coming soon, either.  Bitcoin would obviously have to more than double in price, and that's going to take a bull market like 2017 to achieve unless bitcoin goes up slow and steady in which case you'll be waiting even more.
5809  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto Atm on: December 09, 2019, 10:33:45 PM
Are you being purposefully stupid?
Probably not.  He's probably just starting up another thread so his alt accounts can have something to talk about, although I must admit I do think the topic is an interesting one in general.  Why?

Because:
There are over 4,000 in the US alone.
And I found one in the town I live in, stuck way in the back of a liquor store.  I posted about my experience a month or two ago, but to recap, I found its location using the coinatmradar site but when I tried to use the thing, I kept getting an error message when I tried to make a scan of my ID.  I attempted the procedure about three times before I finally threw my hands up in frustration and walked out without being able to buy any bitcoin.  Dammit!

Even though the ATM's asking price was a couple thousand dollars above the market price, I would have gladly spent a little money just to try the damn machine out and say I finally used a bitcoin ATM.  One of the liquor store employees told another employee that they should just unplug the thing.  It sounded like I wasn't the first person who'd had problems with it.  Oh well.  There are others in my state, but I don't have a car and the next closest one is too far to ride my bike to.
5810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are there any countries that accept cryptos as an actual method of payment? on: December 09, 2019, 08:46:12 PM
I'll believe that when I see any evidence of it. Until then it's a bunch of balls cooked up by tossers on r/bitcoin. There's a slight difference between an entire nation and a few hundred people.
Lol, I love your skepticism.

I was browsing Youtube a few weeks ago, and I saw some videos about Dash being used in Venezuela and there was even a coffee shop with a big Dash logo on it.  I'm skeptical as well, but they made a moderately convincing argument that Dash is actually being used in Venezuela and is growing in popularity.  But what the hell, who knows what the actual numbers are--it could well be just a few hundred people for all I know, but it didn't sound that way.

The thing is, countries that are in trouble tend to adopt another stable fiat currency when their own fails, and a lot of times it's the US dollar.  There are quite a few countries in S. America where those stupid golden dollar coins are very popular.  If you come across one in the US that's really worn, it's probably seen action in Ecuador or one of its neighboring countries.
5811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where is Bitcoin used as store of value, other than the core community? on: December 09, 2019, 03:53:01 PM
Currently, there are three, Venezuela, South Sudan, and Zimbabwe.
Argentina, Sudan, and Iran are also experiencing 50% inflation per year.
Holy crap, I wasn't aware of that inflation situation in Sudan and Iran.  Sudan doesn't surprise me, but I figured Iran's economy was relatively stable--though I have to admit I don't follow the world economic situation much, or politics, or global news (lol).

I don't know if bitcoin is being used as a store of value even in unstable countries like Venezuela.  If the citizens are using it at all, it's probably to pay for things.  And my understanding is that even though their local currency is hyperinflated, most people have turned to either the USD or currencies from neighboring countries if they're stable enough.  I've heard stories of Dash being widely adopted as a payment method in Venezuela, but I don't know if that's hype or what.

I'm also not sure how many people in those countries are trying to store any value.  They're lucky if they have enough money to buy the basic necessities of life most of the time.  Correct me if I'm wrong.
5812  Economy / Currency exchange / [H] $20 PayPal [N] btc at preev 1:1 on: December 09, 2019, 03:42:46 PM
As stated in the title, I need $20 worth of BTC at preev 1:1. We can use whatever preev is at, at the time we finalize the deal.

I will not send first unless you have significant green trust or if I've done business with you before.

This will be a neutral feedback transaction.

Send me a PM if you're willing to help me out, as I might miss seeing this thread if you post here.

Local rule:  Please do not post here unless you're interested in doing this deal.  PayPal is very risky because of the chance of chargebacks, but I have never done this and won't ever.  Also, I won't deal with anyone under Full Member unless they're willing to send first.

Edit:  deal done, locking thread now.
5813  Other / Meta / Re: Should you be able to lock your account for a time. on: December 09, 2019, 03:37:58 PM
Perhaps suggest it as a feature for the new forum software.
Better yet, write down the suggestion on a small piece of paper, seal it into a bottle and float it out into the nearest ocean with the hopes that Theymos finds it someday.

That isn't to say that it's not a good idea, because if it could be implemented easily enough I think it should be an option.  I'm pretty sure there are some members who take a planned break from the forum (or a permanent one) who'd like the option of locking their account.  Hell, I might find it useful myself one day.  I just tend to think suggestions like these 1) tend to fall upon deaf ears, and 2) won't ever see the light of day when the new forum software comes rolling out real soon.

5814  Economy / Economics / Re: How many bitcoin is enough? on: December 09, 2019, 02:53:20 PM
Stacking sats I think the cool kids call it.
Huh.  I never heard that phrase before, but I like it.

If I need to liquidate some in order to live and buy things, i'll do that, but i'll always keep trying to replenish what I spend.
Ideally if you're accumulating bitcoin for the long term, you should only do it with funds that you're not going to need for other things.  If you have to sell bitcoin in order to pay for things you need, you're probably putting too much money into it.  There's no shame in going slow while building your bitcoin position.

I never set a goal as far as how much bitcoin I want to have, because I have the type of personality where nothing is ever enough.  Even if I had 21BTC it still wouldn't satisfy me--and I don't have anything close to that right now.
5815  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Yobit ETH withdraw is not working. You tried withdraw in any other coin? on: December 09, 2019, 02:20:18 PM
So trade your eth for btc and withdraw ASAP.
He isn't likely to do that, since Yobit's fee for bitcoin withdrawal is something like 0.0012BTC, and it's always been that high.

My guess is that the ETH wallet is just temporarily in maintenance mode, since that's one of the most popular coins to trade there.  Most of the shitcoins on Yobit have wallets that are in permanent maintenance mode, which I learned when trying to buy some RDD a while back.  I still have some on Yobit that I can't withdraw and can't trade because the amount is too small.  They really should delist about 75% of the coins they offer since you can't withdraw them.
5816  Other / Meta / Re: DT Members Recognition on: December 09, 2019, 01:39:46 PM
I think this is a rare thing to happen, just like I barely get any PMs asking for Merit.
I don't get PMs "begging" for merits, but I do get PMs from members asking me to review their posts, which I encourage.  That's a fair way to do it IMO and I've even made the offer in a few threads that I'd be more than happy to get PMs from people requesting me to review their post history.

Badges for DT members?  I'm not crazy about the idea, and it might be problematic given that DT members get rotated in and out of the list and some drop out for other reasons.  It might get confusing to members who haven't been here a while who might wonder what's with the magical disappearing DT badges.

Being on DT is recognition enough IMO, and it doesn't require an ego badge on a member's profile.  I also happen to think badges aren't a great idea in general, though there might be certain exceptions to that.  There have been quite a few that have been suggested and initially I supported the concept but now I'm thinking it would just clutter everything up.
5817  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto analyst peter brandt bitcoin will reach $100000 on: December 09, 2019, 12:51:00 PM
I really don't understand why he need subscription charge. Lol.
Well obviously it's to make him money, and it's what a lot of big investment firms do--or used to do, anyway, charge for a newsletter giving predictions on stocks and other investments.  I'd say it's an outdated model, but whatever.

Look, it doesn't take much brain power to make a prediction, especially a bitcoin prediction and especially a prediction about a really, really high price.  Lots of knuckleheads do it and they don't even need to charge people for a subscription.  I think they mostly do it to keep their own names in conversation, to keep themselves relevant.

Still, I have a feeling that bitcoin will eventually get to $100k.  The only thing I'm less certain of is whether that's going to be in my lifetime.  I'm hoping so, but bitcoin's got a hell of a long way to go before it hits that mark.
5818  Other / Meta / Re: I'm running for becoming the new Trading Discussion Moderator on: December 08, 2019, 07:44:07 PM
You are not in the right place to to higher the people to work with you in your trading or any kind of platform. While you are looking for the good service provider you need to look out among the moderators and dt members in this forum.
Check out services board and while dealing for payment have one escrow for it.
LOL, WAT?

First, you should post this in Meta.
Agreed.  OP, is this a fantasy of yours or did you get offered a position as moderator?  I'm assuming it's the former since I've heard no discussion about this anywhere, which is usually what happens as in the case of Flying Hellfish becoming the mod of P&S.  You can't just nominate yourself out of the blue--well, you could but I don't think it would have much of an effect.

Oh, by the way you just registered here in May.  I seriously don't think you have enough experience on the forum to be a moderator.
5819  Other / Meta / Re: BAN APPEAL on: December 08, 2019, 07:07:36 PM
That's kinda rude, even if indeed it was an offence, it was probably an honest mistake
This guy doesn't deserve anything less than rudeness, and if you think copying someone's Twitter post and claiming it as your own (and probably getting paid for it no less) is an honest mistake, you obviously haven't seen this shit go down over and over on the forum.  Members like him are a plague here, and permabanning them is appropriate.

The ban is on you, the person behind the account(s), OP.  That means you're not allowed to make a new account and start posting again per the rules of the forum.

Hopefully, a mod will check and someone might be able to help them out and provide a lesser punishment like a temporary ban. It is not easy to move on, easier said than done -_-
That isn't going to happen.  And if a plagiarizing shitposter has difficulty moving on from bitcointalk, they were probably here for the wrong reason anyway.
5820  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: which books have you read on: December 08, 2019, 05:30:22 PM
This topic has popped up quite a few times since I've been a member of the forum, and I would suggest OP try searching the trading discussion section for "books" and he might find some of those threads.

I haven't read any "how-to" books on trading, but I'm very interested in books about finance and such, and one of the best ones on trading stocks was Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre.  It's a very old book and it's fictionalized, but it gives a great account of Jesse Livermore who was a great stock trader who used charts and his own intuition to make millions.  And the book is a great read, too.

Another fantastic one that sort of deals with trading is When Genius Failed by Roger Lowenstein.  It shows the danger of using too much leverage, and that's an understatement given what almost happened when Long Term Capital Management went bust.

Also, pretty much any book by Roger Lowenstein is a good one.  I've read a few of them, and they were all really good.
