5801  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: New York Prohibition of Mining Law on: November 29, 2022, 12:24:22 PM
Except for the ones that were obvious scams all the new mining setups coming into NY were 100% renewable. Also, in NY since power is more or less fungible, all you have to do is BUY from a green supplier not have green power coming in.

This observation is interesting! I had no idea that new companies are already exploring these types of options.

However, do you think that the companies that build ASICs will improve the equipment, in order to be more efficient?
I still think miner builder companies should improve hardware to consume less power. Something they are not doing yet, in my opinion.

That does not work to lower power use. Simple economics.

5802  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 29, 2022, 02:50:34 AM

He is mostly right, although I don't believe that US-based VCs would not invest offshore IF SEC put screws on "crypto" in US.
It is very easy for them to spawn a subsidiary on some island and proceed from there.
BTW, Fidelity already opened up some beta site for retail investment in something they call "bitcoin", but, apparently, you cannot withdraw such 'bitcoin", lol.
Fake bitcoin would be the next "thing" among banks, me thinks.

I read that twitter story by Mark Moss and I should apologize in advance if my questions are way too newbish...  I am very new to crypto

I invested in btc and some altcoins and I really believe that btc is the future. While this Mark's does make sense to me, I have had some questions though...

If SEC could be so tough to declare all crypto except btc as a security why they have not won that battle against XRP for such a long time?

Since SEC is a regulating authority, shouldn't it its decisions be approved by both senate and congress before going public which seems hard to me since they belong to two different parties now?

What about btc forks (I know most of them is a total crap) - how would SEC decide which of them is a security and which not?

On a larger scale - all real POW projects -  how to spot a security vs non-security. It just seems to me very time consuming job for SEC given that lengthy battle against XRP...

My personal take on this (I could be wrong of course) that just an announcement that SEC starts its review whether all crypto is a security will likely put entire crypto market into a lengthy bearish season...

Any insights would be appreciated....

PS I also anticipate a bunch of lawyers from large crypto projects suing SEC obviously they dont want to loose their money because of SEC
good questions...

Because both parties are throwing 100 of mil (minimum) at each other. i don't really know the current score. If XRP to disappear, bitcoin would not be affected.

the question of forks is not relevant anymore due to their size or the lack of it.

Why is this? It's all Howey-test based idiocy anyway. The world DOES NOT care about security/not security...it's SEC who are obsessed over it due to, I guess, the desire to "regulate" everything.

If you are angling to predict when is the good time to invest (if ever), then you will never DO IT.
Your loss.

But the world does care about the US financials including SEC... and FED's hikes clearly show it... unfortunately...

I was not angling at a lower price for BTC and some altcoins, I am using a DCA strategy anyway. I personally think that now is a very good price to buy btc regardless of future SEC actions...

However, my concern that SEC actions can put all crypto including btc into a bearish chaos...

Does it make sense

The attacks will trudge on when eth shits the bed in late 2023 to early 2025

^ Sounds like Phillip may be referring to the reduction of sentences for illegal crimes committed, which is a much different thing then going back and making something that was legal suddenly illegal at a previous point in time and issuing a sentence, and/or imposing stricter sentences at a later point in the future, these I don't believe have ever been done in the US.

Megan's law was able to punish all prior pedophiles if they were still in prison.

https://www.thoughtco.com/history-of-megans-law-973197

"In 1996, the U.S. Congress passed Megan's Law as an amendment to the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children's Act. It required every state to have a sex offender registry and a notification system for the public when a sex offender is released into their community. It also required that repeat sex offenders receive a sentence of life in prison."

those lists in effect were added punishment to people serving time.

How would you feel if your governement makes a no mixer law and backdates it so that you have to explain your involvement as an advertisement service for them? and user of their service as you just admitted to.
If your government punishes you for something that wasn't illegal at the time, you have much bigger things to worry about. It would be a Human Rights violation:
Article 7 No punishment without law

1 No one shall be held guilty of any criminal offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a criminal offence under national or international law at the time when it was committed. Nor shall a heavier penalty be imposed than the one that was applicable at the time the criminal offence was committed.

2 This Article shall not prejudice the trial and punishment of any person for any act or omission which, at the time when it was committed, was criminal according to the general principles of law recognised by civilised nations.
This means that:
The right to no punishment without law is absolute. This means that it cannot be restricted in any way.
So to answer your question: if my government would do what you suggested, it would be time to bring out the pitchforks.

Unfortunately U.K. law does not apply to USA. It is a nice law though.

Unfortunately here in the USA we shit all over that idea.
1)Read on how USA altered time served rules after the fact.
2)Read how USA alter pedophile rules after the fact.

To give you an example of how fucked the USA is we could charge Boris (ex PM) for US tax evasion anytime we want.

3)Hard to believe but true. look it up

Not fud for 1),2),3)

 just facts

Make offers shipping only within states they are used but will come out clean. Make me reasonable offer one of the 6gpu mining boxes comes with no PSU.

No one interested in gpu mining anymore huh? Cheesy

You said reasonable offer, no one is looking to spend reasonable money in the current market.  Maybe let us know your rock bottom and someone might bite.

Fair enough $300 for the 12GPU rig and $125 for each of the 6 gpu ones ?

I am in New Jersey what state are you in?

I may want a 12 card rig.

Hello, you can contact me through the contact information above, I will tell you the specific quotation and how to use the overclocking equipment.

Dude I wish you were legit.

I have done well over 100000 in usd business on this website and have perfect feedback.

I would buy them one at a time up to 10 of them.  But you would need to send them to me and trust me to pay you when I get them one at a time.

To which you will now say no I can't trust you.

Simply speaking if you can trust me why on earth would anyone trust you?

I would give my home address for shipping and I have been fully doxxed so with about 3 minutes google search you can find out exactly where I live and that I am giving you my real address.

So if you want to sell gear do the transition here with me today.

5810  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is mining Profitable in 2022? on: November 28, 2022, 01:24:39 PM
Hi guys I was reading news that for the first time Bitcoin mining has not been profitable for the big miners who run millions of dollars of machines and that sucks to them. Cause they have very big expenses. So I was saying that it means that this morning for low budget miners will be total loss and a lot of hard work.
In my opinion that Ethereum mining is also not profitable.

there is no eth mining. It was ended in Sept 2022.

What is a loser for a large miner with tons of overhead and loans does not affect a small scale commercial miner much.

I turn a profit just way smaller than in 2021.

We have no debt and the spaces we use have quite a bit of solar power.
Do you sell mined BTC right away if you are talking about a profit slightly less than last year? All or part? Are you considering holding the mined bitcoin until the price goes up?
I apologize if I'm asking tactless questions.

Perhaps the unprofitability of production for large miners will affect the increase in the number of small ones, which will have a positive effect on decentralization.

I don't sell every single coin after expenses.
I don't hodl every single coin after expenses.

Sometimes I hodl almost everything I can other times I sell almost everything I can.

BTW it can be a hard decision as to the ratio of hodl vs selling the profits after the expenses.

Since my power deal is good my hard choices are how fast to expand and how much to sink back into expansion of the mine.
5811  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: So much for PoS from PoW for ETH on: November 28, 2022, 05:14:57 AM
Even before the core developers met, they’d determined that Beacon Chain withdrawals, or EIP 4895, was definitely going to be part of the fork. This means that once Ethereum goes through its next upgrade, users that staked ether prior to the Merge by locking them up in the Beacon Chain smart contract will be able to access them, along with any additional accrued rewards.

By the end of this call, the timeline for Shanghai wasn’t any clearer. Some developers want to expedite Shanghai and include only the ETH withdrawal EIP along with a few other smaller EIPs, sometime in March 2023. Then, a subsequent fork would include another significant scaling upgrade – proto-danksharding – and would ship sometime during the fall of 2023.

https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2022/11/24/ethereum-developers-agree-on-what-could-be-included-in-the-next-upgrade-but-not-when/

For a coin that said it would be POS in Dec of 2017 and ended up going POS in Sept 2022 I think a very long wait is in store for all staked ETH.

I staked $300 worth on coinbase that is drawing a big 4%

So it is dropped in value to $234.87 including about $3 worth of interest.

It will continue to drift downwards as all the unstated coins are being slowly sold off into USD BTC LTC and DOGE.

Those staked coins help to anchor the price and slow the slide in value of the free eth coins that are being dumped as I type.

It is well worth it for me to have the $300 staked as it will give me rights to sue down the road.  Figure Dec 2023 to Feb 2024 for the crash to show better.

I say Jan 2025 will be when they 'free' the staked coins.

I think you are very pessimistic about your staked coins. Vitalik cannot delay the process for such a long time, so I believe that in the middle of 2024 the opportunity to withdraw coins will appear. But for $300, I wouldn't worry too much.

yeah I don’t worry at all about the 300 that is now about 215. and that is with interest jumping to 6.85%

my usa i bonds backed by the fed pay 6.89% and the dollars always stay as a dollar with an i bond.

I have a lot more staked on the i bonds than i have staked on the eth.

more then 1000 or 2000 or 3000.

my gut tells me they will do far better than the eth does.
5812  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: November 28, 2022, 03:12:26 AM
My biggest concern was the New York Ban on carbon based fuel for mining.

We are really well postioned we all the solar we built if "green" mining gets enforced here in New Jersey

Down 118 blocks only 45% in means a possible 10-14% diff drop.

Price is dropping a bit about 16k even.
5813  Other / Archival / Re: Is there a chance we get a takedown notice? on: November 28, 2022, 01:44:10 AM

Taking down will be harder for governments since developers will just create another mixer. They've done it before with Bitmixer afaik, as they've also sanctioned Tornadocash but it didn't prevent people from going to another. What is more terrifying is if the create government creates mixers themselves to spy on users, this will be an option for them instead. Bitcointalk, I think can be considered social media.

This is why I have avoided mixers like the plague.
5814  Other / Archival / Re: Is there a chance we get a takedown notice? on: November 28, 2022, 01:03:46 AM
Advertising or even using the service doesn't mean you're using it illegally.
I know, but can you trust regulators nowadays? Remember what happened with that Ethereum mixer this year? Just a friendly reminder that even self-custody is a red-flag for intergovernmental organizations: https://www.fatf-gafi.org/media/fatf/documents/recommendations/Updated-Guidance-VA-VASP.pdf

This site though expects the community to take the responsible approach and not encourage or support users who would engage in the advertising of money laundering activities for their own benefit.
You're going to have a hard time convincing this board, me included, that enhancing Bitcoin privacy effectively, cheaply and in a comfort manner is trifle in comparison with it being used as money laundering in some cases, and in a negligible manner.

first off i can assure you using chipmixer is a way to be tagged as a suspect in money laundering.

any USA citizen  or Bahama citizen is asking for trouble using chipmixer.

ftx = big fucking money lost.

I for one am glad i do not and have not ever advertised or used a mixer of any kind.

just look how NY made a new no  mining law just the other day.

How would you feel if your governement makes a no mixer law and backdates it so that you have to explain your involvement as an advertisement service for them? and user of their service as you just admitted to.

not saying it will but read up on new york and what they just did to miners.

5816  Economy / Speculation / Re: I think that we will see 13500 Dollars In 2022 on: November 27, 2022, 04:38:56 AM
Hi guys in my opinion that btc is in Bear market right now and we do not know that how much time it will be in Bear market and for sure it is In bear market.
Btc is currently running in 16000 dollars range and it might crash if some bad news might happen. So I was saying that it might crash to my prediction cause market is uncertain but indications are these.
So what are your speculations and I will be more curious to know about this.
there is only a month left before the 2022 ends , so with December month you still expect that we will be seeing lowered than what we have recently?

I mean we have seen the lowest of 15,5k but are we looking for 2k more low from that?

I'm afraid that it will happen but if does at least we must be ready .

We should always be ready and i too agree on this fact. But Bitcoins falling down more is currently impossible. I am saying this because, as soon as the price falls down, people will start buying it, therefore it will lead to more demand and hence the price will recover. So yes Bitcoins won’t fall below 15k according to me. Still this is just a speculation. There are equal chances that Bitcoins might rise or fall.

Why can't bitcoin fall deeper? people said the same thing a few months ago when bitcoin hit $17.6k and bounced, then bitcoin continued to hold above $19k for months leading everyone to believe that we had bottomed out this bearish season until the FTX crash caused bitcoin to plummet below $16k. The FTX drama isn't over yet and it's still spreading in the market, we still don't know which names will crash next so don't jump to conclusions that we're at the bottom of bear season.

Close to the correct question. The correct question is when does it go to 13/14k .

The answer is 🔜 very 🔜.

I would agree with you about the staked coins being locked up for some time except that this is a little different from the move to PoS. People have money at stake here (literally) and when people can’t get their money things get dirty. I would be a bit surprised if these coins aren’t released well before the next bubble, otherwise people may start getting a little crazy. I doubt it’ll be early next year though. They can’t unleash all those coins at the bottom of the market without cratering ETH.

I think Mr V.B. does not sleep well. I wonder how long before he cracks and pulls a Howard Hughes.

He has to be very paranoid about how many people are unhappy with him.

20 million a day in gross income went up in smoke 💨 when the genius did what he did.

that was more daily gross income then btc generates.

144x6.3x20000=18 million a day.

which is less.

the P.O.S. mad genius hurt.

He can say that to himself every night he goes to sleep I am sure it with help him rest well.

essentially gpu mining is dead to everyone over six cent power.

maybe to everyone over five cent power.
