I can;t stop laughing at people  suggesting an escrow , (third party) for a supposed decentralized and p2p currency.

You see the Irony in it?
5822  Economy / Speculation / Re: China just made Bitcoin pretty useless within China on: December 05, 2013, 04:34:43 PM
This reddit "translation" contradicts itself.  More of an opinion on the notice than a real translation really.

Anyone have the original, Chinese notice handy before I go looking for it?

http://www.pbc.gov.cn/publish/goutongjiaoliu/524/2013/20131205153156832222251/20131205153156832222251_.html

"Notice" clearly the nature of Bitcoin that Bitcoin is not issued by the monetary authorities, such as not having sex with mandatory legal tender currency property, not the true meaning of money.

Scam.
Immediately scam? you do not even have registered and are not sure of that.
Do not accuse the project without knowing nothing about it

Well , the point is to avoid scams , so you don't put money in stuff that smells like scam.

5825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fontas - will he kill crypto-currencies? on: December 05, 2013, 04:06:21 PM
A fool is born every minute.

Just be glad you are not one and be on your merry way.

The majority of bitcoin traders have not even HEARD of Fontas and if they did, would be unconcerned. He is just another dude trying to make bank in a sea of dudes trying to make bank.

He has found a way to make money. If people lose money, they have learned a lesson. Some lessons are very expensive to learn. Like college in America, you learn enough to get a degree and it costs $40,000 a year at a private university. Some would say you have also learned the lesson not to get into tons of debt, as well as the lesson not to buy into bubbles at the top (in this case, the higher education bubble.)
Well with Fontas, a foolish individual might pay BTC120  and learn enough to not pay BTC120 into pump schemes. An expensive lesson, but a lesson well-learned.
Yup.

I came in the thread wondering who the Hell this guy was. I was hoping he was some kind of cheese-maker... Could we maybe turn this into a fontina porn thread?

From wondering who Fontas is , I ended up wondering what the hell this might be?
5826  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins for Nigella Lawson? on: December 05, 2013, 04:03:01 PM
She's getting absolutely screwed over by the mainstream media in the UK at the moment. We all know Charles Saatchi has a lot of money, and also media contacts that will paint him in the best way, whilst they dig dirt on Nigella. It sickens me.

Yes, Nigella probably does have some money herself, but nowhere near the same amount that Charles Saatchi has. I thought it'd be a great PR story for bitcoin, if we could raise some bitcoins for her to put towards her funding some good PR for her.

Thoughts?

In December 2008, Lawson caused controversy and was featured in various newspapers for publicly advocating wearing fur. Lawson also remarked that she would love to kill a bear and then wear it.[115][116]

Oh really , tell her to hold her mouth open for my incoming donation
5827  Economy / Economics / Re: Banks should embrace bitcoin on: December 05, 2013, 03:58:24 PM
We don't need the banks any more. There'll be some that embrace cryptos - some people would just rather somebody else looks after their money.

You know that banks usually work by doing both deposits and loans. Give me the crypto solution for that.
5828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can the Blockchain be hacked? on: December 05, 2013, 03:49:16 PM
Nope. Almost impossible currently

You're contradicting yourself.
If it is almost , there there is a way , so the answer it's yes.

lmao the one day I decide to sleep a little late and cut my phone off so I don't get any notifications everything goes to hell.  Actually it looks like I missed the scary part and we're recovering now.  So maybe that was a good thing.

theres a good chance the bears have some more ammo, place your bids expecting a higher low.

Try to say your two years old kid that there's no Santa and watch what happens.

Why do people lie to their kids about Santa in the first place, knowing that it will just cause major disappointment and possible trust issues later.
And why is it that when they are told that, while one guy with superpowers who can see everything you do and sits in judgment of you is fake, the other one is still real?

Also, wait, wouldn't Santa be one of dank's gods, too?

Wasn't Saint Nicholas greek  > christian ?
Bringing dank into the equation.. I'm not going that far.

So if one users posts some bad news about bitcoin he gets the bulling of his lifetime , ignores and other crap
If a troll posts some photoshoped bitcoin taxi in kenya he is praised as a god.

No offense but , we have a problem controlling zealots here.

No offense dude, but you've been quite the zealot yourself recently Tongue

Joseph Goebbels ain't got nothing on a bitcoin bull when it comes to propaganda, I tell you that.

Common , I've been labelled as paypal employee here in the last two weeks...
Shouting to Venus ( I like more venus than mars) is not being a zealot! I follow the party.

Shut up stupid bear!

kiddinx

lmao. It's nice to be in a bullish community that understands the concept here, sick of arguing with other "citizens" about bitcoin being a ponzi and whatnot - that said, yes - sometimes reality is ignored here. I am a bitcoin turbobull but what can ya say? negative is just negative sometimes. That said,  I don't know how big of an effect this specific negative will have. Perhaps not as severe as some people think - certainly not zero as someone posted somewhere.

I don't care about china bans I don't care about BoA praising it , bullish news , bearish news .. doesn't matter to much in the final picture.
But when I see people throwing rocks of others , mentioning ignoring , because they have a different opinion , that is sad.
Bitcoin is about freedom , and that is just bullied here.

Or to increase efficiency of mining , we already see cost per GH dropping to 5$ form 100 in the past.
And where did you get that 7.2 M/Month?
Energy efficiency isnt the issue here. Its the bitcoins being generated by mining. 25 per block every roughly ten minutes. Or, in numbers 25BTC/block*6 blocks/hour*24hours/day*30days/months. Thus 108K BTC/month.
And yeah, sorry, that $7.2M/month was an old figure, checked an old version of a spreadsheat. Sad The current numbers are far worse.
So basicly, since the network generates those 108K BTC (or, at current rates ~$108M) per month and most mining hardware barely breaks even nowadays even at those extremely high bitcoin prices its pretty fair to assume that this is the real cost is run the network.

I was talking about the cost of miners , and not electricity.
Compare the first avalons with the knc miners and with the cointerra version
The price of getting the equal amount of hash the network has is dropping each month.

Also please let me know how much PH will that 108M/month buy. Around 20PH? 3 times more than we have?

5838  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How I would attack Bitcoin on: December 05, 2013, 02:33:57 PM
They would just ackowledging bitcoin is real thread to old Bank structures and new people would support Bitcoin idea by buying more miners.

Yeah , like you can go in your closest shop and buy a miner.
If they do indeed produce miners in secret and launch a pool with 51% of the hashing power there will be no way miners could respond in time.
5839  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Block erupters absolutely waste of money now? on: December 05, 2013, 01:25:38 PM
Block erupters are toys , or novelty , they were never meant to return hundred of $.

They sort of are toys, but they can be good teaching tools too. I bought 10 for my nephews a few months ago (one 8 and the other 7). They were curious about my rigs and so I thought it would be a good way for them to learn more about btc and alts. They are now fascinated by cryptos. The first thing they do when they get home from school is check to see how much they made, its never much, but it holds their fascination anyway. They will sit there and watch as shares are sent and repeatedly refresh the pool page to see if a block has been found – it is both scary and adorable all at the same time.
At Thanksgiving, I asked them what they wanted for Christmas, from the youngest (the 7 year old), I thought I would get a request for Pokemon or some new gaming system; instead, he asked me for a mining rig so that he could mine litecoin.
They may not be good for ROI, but they can serve a purpose of introducing people to the world. (I also have given about a half-dozen to friends that didn't understand how I could make money with a computer, the results have been hilarious.)

Yeah , great way to learn the bad thing about bitcoins.
Your kids are just expecting money in return! Like most people out there!
Bitcoin isn't about gains.
You'd do more for bitcoins and your kids if you showed them how to buy a game with bitcoins .
5840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why we need ALT coins?? on: December 05, 2013, 01:23:06 PM

Months ago a journalist survived for a period of time spending nothing but BTC for all her daily needs.  Indirectly, altcoins then become useable as well by exchanging them for BTC.

I think in the long term somebody will come up with a universal payment platform that accepts any crypto from a customer and just pays the business in cash.

Most businesses don't want to deal with cryptos directly anyway, and they'll happily pay a small fee for somebody to facilitate crypto transactions for them.

But the structure of this means that bitcoin is no longer needed as a conduit between the alts and cash, a customer can just select their alt from a dropdown box, make a payment, and the business gets cash. Bitcoin is only used if the customer chooses to pay in bitcoin.

Bitpay?
