5821  Other / Meta / Re: (Suggestion) New sub-forum for novelty coins on: December 31, 2013, 12:04:49 AM
I decided a long time ago that I would not be the judge of a coins validity. If its a good idea, people will use it, if its a stupid coin, it will die. No more fair way than that. As long as the creator isn't putting malware into the wallet, I don't care if someone decides to make SUPERULTRABESTCOIN or anything else.

On this note, though, perhaps having some sort of a breakdown based on PoW/PoS would be a decent way to categorize them?

Alternate Cryptocurrencies
* Proof-of-Work only
** SHA256-based
** Scrypt-based
** Other
* Proof-of-Stake also
** SHA256-based
** Scrypt-based
** Other

Would this be a determinative classification system? I don't even know if there are Proof-of-Stake Scrypt-based coins, but this would be a way to categorize them without classifying them or strictly picking winners or losers...

If it were me, I'd go for:

Alternate Cryptocurrencies
/ New Coin Launches
/ Giveaways
/ Other Discussion

Since those seem to be the main varieties of topic and it would put them all in the same place.

If a thread I replied to 4 hours ago is already on page 6, then it's an incredibly busy forum and could do with being spread out a bit.
5822  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are we still in the early adopter stage of Bitcoin? on: December 30, 2013, 11:31:26 PM
I think we still are in the early adoptors phase...

here is a nice article that covers the subject: http://www.vdschagt.com/myth-im-too-late-to-start-bitcoins-innovation-curve/
It's a good article, but my only criticism would be the sentence "Imagine what happens to the value of one bitcoin when adoption grows!".

If we're being honest, it should read "Imagine what happens to the value of one bitcoin IF adoption grows!".  There are no guarantees here.  For all we know, this could be as big as it gets.  But fingers crossed it gets much, much bigger.   Smiley

Question:  "Is Cat coin *really* going to the moon?"

Short answer:  No.

Long answer:  Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
5824  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Exchange on: December 30, 2013, 10:58:11 PM
Most exchanges only need personal details if you're depositing or withdrawing fiat currency like dollars/euros/etc.  If you're depositing altcoins and selling them for BTC and LTC, then exchanges like BTC-e and Cryptsy should be fine.

To store them in an offline wallet, however, you'll have to withdraw your BTC/LTC from the exchange to your own address, which usually incurs a fee.
5825  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: December 30, 2013, 09:31:32 PM
DOGE is a collateral joke!

Let's look at more promising coins like XPM, QRK, PPC and the ones i dont know about yet.
I'm still undecided on Quark.  Alot of people said it's a scam because it was pre-mined, but others defend it by saying they just use a different distribution system to other alts.  I like the whole 9 layers of encryption idea since that sounds impressive and appears to set it apart from other coins.  Although whether or not it makes any practical difference to have 9 layers of encryption is another matter entirely, heh.  As with Doge, I grabbed a couple just in case, but probably won't spend much time or effort on it unless it starts to gain more prominence.
5826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tips For Launching a New Coin on: December 30, 2013, 08:07:52 PM
I honestly think that if you are serious about your coin and want to streamline your coin, you need to have a lightweight wallet ready to go with your launch.  When I first got in to bitcoin, I skipped the client and went straight to Multibit because I didn't want to wait an eternity for my client to sync up.  Also something tells me that your grandmother will not have the patience to wait for her wallet to sync up either.
Very much this.  I'm surprised Litecoin/Peercoin/Namecoin/etc still haven't really got this sorted yet.  If a new alt does come along that isn't pre-mined, has a sensible block reward scheme and mining difficulty AND has a lightweight client/wallet, it could take off hugely.  Developers please take note.

So you as the host make 0.01 Bitcoin per game (or more if your next games are for larger amounts).  I can see why you think this is a good idea.   Grin
5828  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting Ross Ulbricht his coins back and screwing the FBI on: December 30, 2013, 07:41:47 PM
It's certainly a nice sentiment, but wouldn't everyone have to download the revised blockchain manually to validate it?
5829  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [FRSC]Federal Reserve System Coin Officially Released on: December 30, 2013, 07:37:21 PM
That's quite possibly the least appealing name for an altcoin yet, heh.  Just waiting for someone to launch NSAcoin now.
5830  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are we still in the early adopter stage of Bitcoin? on: December 30, 2013, 05:23:17 PM
I guess it partly depends how high the price goes.  If it stays under or around the $1000 mark and it remains something that most people have maybe heard of but don't really understand, then anyone who got in before the $500 will be probably be considered an early adopter.  If, however, Bitcoin becomes truly mainstream and goes up to something crazy like $10000, then all of us will be considered early adopters.
5831  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bunny Run on: December 30, 2013, 04:57:50 PM
Is bunny run still paying out everyday?
It's look like i have not recieved yet any payment from them, and after several 3th and 4th places, today finally rank 1 Smiley.
I know i am a bitcoin student  Cheesy, but allready recieved other payments so it should be working.  Grin
Even the reward for finishing 1st is under the dust limit.  "Dust" is a payment amount that is too small to be sent.  Bunnyrun was set up when Bitcoin was much less valuable, so small payouts like that used to be worth more.  Lately I've only been using Bitvisitor for free bitcoin.  Even BTCClicks doesn't payout much anymore.

I think I'm right in saying the minimum transaction amount at the moment is 0.00005 BTC.  4th/3rd place on Bunny run pays 0.000004, 2nd pays 0.000006 and 1st place gives 0.00002 BTC.  So even if they gave out 10 times as much for 3rd/4th, it would still be just under the dust limit, heh.
5832  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: December 30, 2013, 04:46:57 PM
I still don't think dogecoin is going to be worth more than a penny.  Ever.  I've got a couple just in case I'm wrong, but it just seems unlikely that they have a solid future.
5833  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin faucet list (updated regularly) on: December 27, 2013, 03:15:19 PM

IS IT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND IT'S FORBIDDEN TO POST ABOUT ALTCOINS IN THE NEWBIES SUBFORUM?

Tbh I've never read it was forbidden. If I knew that, I wouldn't have posted it there. Could you please show me where it says?
It would be understandable if it were stated in the "NEWBIE README" thread, but it's not.  And there's a pinned/stickied topic in the newbies subforum called "Alt-Coins", so clearly you can talk about them, or a mod wouldn't have stickied it.  Perhaps there could be a little more clarity to start with and a little less condescending messages in giant red fonts because the guidelines haven't been made clear.   Tongue
5834  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin faucet list (updated regularly) on: December 26, 2013, 10:45:25 PM
I've had payouts from both Litecoiner and LTC4YOU, so those two are both fine.  Not tried the others.

The quantities per roll have gone heavily down. Some days ago the smallest possible roll was 30無TC, yesturday it was 20無TC and now it is only 2無TC. Jackpot has also decreased accordingly.
Mine are still pretty good.  I'm getting 15 無TC for the lowest roll and with another two referrals I'll be up to 30 無TC again.

5836  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ok what next I should do? on: December 26, 2013, 07:57:50 PM
If you want Bitcoin, you're probably better off using a pay-to-click site like Bitvisitor.

If you want to mine, consider trying Litecoin or one of there other Altcoins.  There's also a Litecoin faucet here which pays quite well.
5837  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: There are so many copycats of Bitcoin. Do you think any of them will succeed? on: December 26, 2013, 07:47:44 PM
LiteCoin is an acceptable replacement.  only time will tell..
Yep, I think Litecoin has a big future.  Been getting a fair bit from faucets like this one.
5838  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bunny run faucet not paying? on: December 12, 2013, 11:11:42 PM
Faucets should switch to a cheaper coin so they can send larger amounts.  Move the decimal a few places to the left and pay it out in LTC instead.

There are ltc faucets and other faucets as well!
Yep, I've been using Litecoiner for a while and have 0.0067 LTC built up on that so far.  Also just started using LTC4YOU, which I think is pretty new.  Got 0.0007 LTC built up after 2 or 3 days.

5840  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bter exchange is annoying on: December 03, 2013, 09:52:24 PM
always check for limits whenever you go to any kind of trading website or site that asks you to deposit money, you'll find some people always have a way to try and con you out of your money, sometimes they're totally honest though and they're just putting limits in because of their fees etc. so you don't make mistakes.
I'm looking at their site now and there's no mention of limits until you actually try to make the trade.  Not a well designed website at all.  I'll be sure to read up on the reputation of any other exchanges before signing up in future.  Seems to be the best way to avoid unwanted surprises.

welcome - BTER is crap!  I have a BTC stuck there in a withdrawal , i put the wrong address in, so it just sits there saying error, but will not refund to my account, 20 plus emails in english and Chinese , nothing, the worst exchange ive ever used, id recommend people stay well away, no mater how tempting the ARB.
Yep, will be telling people the same if I see the topic arise.
