5821  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 testing phase on: August 28, 2016, 05:40:40 PM
Edit3: It doesn't detect new ZC transactions and nothing in the log indicates why.

Is the ZC eventually mined?
Yes. It only shows up after it is confirmed.

Do you experience the detached DB issue too?
Don't know, haven't and can't check (away from my machine).

5823  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Multiple issues with Armory, primary issue: Stuck in offline mode on: August 28, 2016, 02:59:42 PM
First of all, update to Armory 0.94.1: https://btcarmory.com/0.94.1-release/. Then update Bitcoin Core to 0.13.0: https://bitcoin.org/en/download

Then come back and see if the error is still there.

The updater and announcements system are no longer maintained.functional. Don't use them anymore. They have been removed in the latest versions of Armory.

Synchronizing with network...7 years and 30 weeks behind. Will write back on this forum once its done (if it's still here by 2023)
It doesn't take 7 years and it should have detected whatever you synced before with an older version of Bitcoin Core.
5824  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 testing phase on: August 28, 2016, 02:46:05 PM
I think most of the bugs and instability issues reported here should be fixed now. Testers, please pull dev and try again. DB format changed slightly, please start with a fresh folder.
Still getting tons of these errors:
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "ArmoryQt.py", line 5771, in handleCppNotification
    self.updateWalletData()
File "ArmoryQt.py", line 5735, in updateWalletData

    return func(*args, **kwargs)
File "/home/andy/bitcoin/BitcoinArmory/armoryengine/PyBtcWallet.py", line 3119, in getAddrDataFromDB
    countList = self.cppWallet.getAddrTxnCountsFromDB()
File "/home/andy/bitcoin/BitcoinArmory/CppBlockUtils.py", line 2354, in getAddrTxnCountsFromDB

<class 'CppBlockUtils.DbErrorMsg'>: <CppBlockUtils.DbErrorMsg; proxy of <Swig Object of type 'DbErrorMsg *' at 0x7f485abb8cf0> >

and it seems that it is stuck at "Scanning Transaction History 100% 1 second". Edit: It fixed itself.

Yay! It seems to work!

Edit2: Looking at the list of addresses in a wallet, it looks like any address that has a 0 balance is considered unused even though they have been used in the past. Double clicking on the address shows the transactions, but the adddresses in the list are marked as unused with 0 transactions.

Edit3: It doesn't detect new ZC transactions and nothing in the log indicates why.

5826  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: SegWit question on: August 28, 2016, 01:30:30 PM
Segwit is designed by Nicolas Dorier, and if you have question, you can tweet and ask him. I don't think there are so many people eligible to answer you this question here. Maybe a btc expert will answer you.
Segwit is not designed by Nicolas Dorier. Please stop spreading misinformation. It was designed and implemented in Bitcoin Core by Johnson Lau and Pieter Wuille. If you want full details for how Segwit works (and thus how to implement it), please read the BIPs. Segwit is specified in BIPs 141, 143, and 144.
5827  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Incentivizing Bitcoin Nodes on: August 28, 2016, 01:27:26 PM
I recieved this from someone claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto:

If this is real, then he is already working on a new cryptocurency  to address this issue:

To: Bitcoin Developers Everywhere

Constructive Imagination is everything when it comes to cross-platform integration of data services. You will rarely ever see a world-class architect doing drywall work at the construction site where his concept will be erected; nor will you ever see him floating the cement foundation after it has been poured. The people doing the construction work are needed for the architect's project; however, it's his concept that brought them there to work. Everyone that works on the architect's project needs to get paid. I want to take crypto-currency in a totally new direction; however, as payment, I want to give you a pre-issuance of the proposed new currency as the payment for your work; meaning, its the project itself that will pay you in virtual currency.

I want to create a new distributed peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that is more efficient and sustainable than Bitcoin. Using a PoQN (Proof of Qualified Node) that requires each miner to run and maintain a qualified node before being allowed to mine.

A "qualified node" is essentially an online server with a FQDN that must be running the blockchain checkpoints within its operational protocols. Each qualified node must run its own "blockchain explorer" and have visibility online to a FQDN. The code should be checked against sha-512 encryption checkpoints for conformity to preset network conditions.

Each qualified node will have full mining rights, and each node operator will be able to setup their own online storefront that represents the IP of the qualified node. Using automated API POS (point of sale) address assignments, each node operator can assign a "receive address" for each product on their site. Each transaction that runs off a qualified node will provide the person who sent the funds with the opportunity to leave feedback for that purchase on the blockchain explorer. Every product listed on every qualified node will be seachable by the product description provided on the node operators blockchain explorer.

Everytime a transaction occurs on any qualified node, the value of that tranaction and the item being sold will will go into a GVG (Gross Volume Generated) calcualtion report on each indepentantly run blockchain explorer. This will ensure that every qualified miner is updated with the current statistical value of the underlining cryptocurrency.

There is much more to his email but I am keeping to myself for the time being. The email address that it came from is:
satoshi.t.nakamoto@protonmail.com

I think this guy might be the real Satoshi
It's not satoshi. He never used that email.
5828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do i need to know before creating my altcoin if i don't have programming kn on: August 27, 2016, 08:01:16 PM
You have to be able to read and write C++ code. Otherwise, nothing can be done. You also need to fully understand the technical details and concepts (as in the bytes sent over the wire and how each data structure works) of the coin that you are cloning from (or creating if you are actually original).
5829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core on: August 27, 2016, 04:29:24 PM
It is in the data directory: C:\Users\YOUR USER\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin. YOUR USER is your username.
5830  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: SegWit question on: August 27, 2016, 03:57:14 PM
It does not actually reduce the storage requirements. More transactions means that there will be more data will be downloaded. What it does do is count the signatures as not being part of the transaction. This allows that data to be pruned at a later date once the the signatures are verified, so it can save space there.
5831  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The safest wallet? on: August 27, 2016, 12:53:53 PM
Obviously 90% will suggest to use blockchain.info as it is official version and our cryptocurrency is totally safe on their hand. If you still want to use 3rd party wallet is upto your thinking, I don't use any party wallet so I guarantee what they could do to your account Undecided
Blockchain.info IS NOT THE OFFICIAL WALLET!!! Most people will in fact NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU USE THEIR WALLET. Their service has had multiple security issues and vulnerabilities in the past. Furthermore, they ARE a third party wallet. You do not control your Bitcoin if you store it with them; they do. Should their service shutdown, you will lose all access to your Bitcoin.

Blockchain.info IS A SERVICE, NOT THE BLOCKCHAIN. THEY ARE NOTHING OFFICIAL.
5832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: /src/checkpoints.cpp:376 HELP on: August 26, 2016, 01:12:34 AM
You're doing something with altcoins (so wrong section) that involves keys and a checkpoint server, so completely not bitcoin related.

Secondly, you have absolutely no idea what you are doing, so please stop. Take the time to actually study what you are doing and understand it before coming and asking for help from people who probably won't give it to you (you are asking about an altcoin after all, and there are significantly less people here who care about altcoins and their development than people who care about Bitcoin and actually understand it).
5833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Pywallet dont change passphrase! on: August 25, 2016, 01:12:41 PM
You can't change the password without knowing the original. Nothing can help you here, your bitcoin is lost.
5834  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core version 0.13.0 Released on: August 25, 2016, 01:10:23 PM
so now to use this i need to re-index again the blockchain and remove pruning, this is really a pain in the ass for each new update..can this be fixed in the future, or this is a lost cause?
No you don't. Just install the new version and start it with pruning.
5835  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I had been using old bitcoin-qt and now I seem stuck on: August 25, 2016, 03:20:07 AM
Blockchain.info import wallet feature via wallet.dat no longer works, at least to my wallet and experience.
My experience is the same. two browsers on my regular PC, and IE on two other different PCs all same experience.
That feature was discontinued or hasn't been working for the past several months/years. I don't know why they still keep that page up though, confuses the hell out of everyone.

If you want, you can just open Bitcoin Core, go to Help>Debug Window>Console and use
Code:
dumpprivkey "Address"
to extract the private key. Import the private key to another SPV wallet. Make sure that the correct wallet.dat is in the data directory.

it gives error: Private key for address (myaddress) is not known (code -4)
Did you have a password on the wallet? If so, you must first run
Code:
walletpassphrase <passphrase> 120
where <passphrase> is your passphrase. This command will unlock the wallet for 120 seconds (2 minutes) in which time you must do all of your private key operations (dumpprivkey).

I also highly recommend that you continue to use Bitcoin Core. Install the latest Bitcoin Core from https://bitcoin.org/en/download. Then put your wallet.dat file in the data directory. Then when you start Bitcoin Core, you may need to use the -upgradewallet option, depending on what version of Bitcoin-qt you previously ran.
5836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Avast quarantined Bitcoin-QT.exe 0.13.0 binary on: August 25, 2016, 02:16:52 AM
Interesting that that happens. When I pull up the email from Thunderbird, enigmail says that it is a good signature.

It might just be a formatting problem caused by the mailing list archive.
5837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Avast quarantined Bitcoin-QT.exe 0.13.0 binary on: August 25, 2016, 01:40:35 AM
This is actually not uncommon. It happens to quite a few people. The antivirus warning is usually a false positive. Of course, you should double check and re-verify the download just to be sure. If the download verifies, then it is extremely unlikely that there is a virus as multiple things (your gpg install, your connection to bitcoin.org, and your checksum utility) would have to be compromised.
5838  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: where is going transaction charge ??? on: August 24, 2016, 08:59:56 PM
That would bring me to another question:
How does a miner know that a transaction was made?
I mean where are they stored before they are recorded as a part of the blockchain?
When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to all of your peers, nodes that your wallet has connect to. These nodes will verify the transaction. If it is good, they will store a copy of it in their memory pool (a database in the memory that contains all of the unconfirmed transactions that the node knows of) and broadcast the transaction to their peers, and so on and so forth. Some of those nodes will be miners, so they will store the transaction in their memory pools as well. When miners go to create blocks, they go to the memory pool and choose transactions from there to include in a block.
5839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core version 0.13.0 Released on: August 24, 2016, 07:08:44 PM
"Backups of HD wallets, regardless of when they have been created, can
therefore be used to re-generate all possible private keys, even the
ones which haven't already been generated during the time of thebackup."

if i understood correctly this mean that the 100 pool address is olved, when you restore a backup after you have used all the privatekey previously generated, and added a new one? i can do this now without worrying about losing my coin?
Yes. Only thing you need to worry about is backing up every time you encrypt the wallet or change the password.

So this means you can use the old wallet and don't need to send coins to the new wallet?

Correct, it's not mandatory to switch to an HD wallet.
But if you do want to use an HD wallet, you will need to send coins to a newly created HD wallet and you can't use the old wallet.
5840  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Setting up a cold storage for bitcoins on: August 24, 2016, 07:07:42 PM
Okay so I have installed Windows 10 from a USB drive and then Bitcoin Core 0.13.0 from bitcoin.org after verifying the digital signature. Backed up the wallet.dat and the private key I extracted using dumpprivkey on several external USB hard drives. I think this setup should be relatively safe, because the private key has never touched the internet.

One of the issues I'm experiencing is the WiFi driver getting automatically installed after I uninstall it using the device manager, so I just disabled it for now. I hope it's good enough.

Do you guys have any additional advice? and how should I spend the bitcoins when the time comes? import them to an online wallet such as blockchain.info or simply sync the blockchain with bitcoin core?

Thanks for all the answers.
I recommend that you don't use any online wallets, regardless. If you don't want to wait for the blockchain to download, then use an SPV wallet like Electrum.
