5841  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: High Performance Blockchain HBP - any solid information? on: March 10, 2018, 10:21:47 AM
I was tempted to buy this for a possible pump and dump scenario (you know what I mean) but when I looked at the name "High Performance Blockchain", I said ugh, so generic, I'll pass.
Reminds me of the local Chinese-owned establishment/stores near my vicinity like "High Grade" and "One and Only Marketing", so lame, personally I don't hate Chinese brands but it's quite easy to gauge their "product quality" by the way they name their brand.

Nice quick diagnosis on that one, asking for a full name and phone number on a random crypto google form is a big no no.  Not to mention, the telegram chat had absolutely no activity in it and the avatar for chat just seemed like it was unprofessionally inserted there...Just red flags everywhere  Cheesy
The hell.... It's plain-sight obvious.
Who would start an airdrop if their coins were already distributed.
5842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with unactivated windows on: March 10, 2018, 06:46:05 AM
No..no..no
better buy a license although I know many a web which provides an activator of Window and I know doesn't have different between both for the mining process but at least, we have participated to reduce piracy.
Why do they even need to activate Windows if there isn't any disadvantage in mining?
Unless you plan to use the rig to something else.

Those aint any activators or hacks. Purely legal license, I have activated Windows 10 Home by phone and no problems at all.
Many youtubers like Paulīs Hardware use those licenses etc...
Those are positively hacks, the most famous one is KMs@rain activator that is a malware which is widely spread among forums and "hacking" sites.
If you meant those free/cheap serial codes and product keys, they aren't "legal" at all, those were just shared by some users.
5843  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is using a pushtx service safe? on: March 10, 2018, 06:06:07 AM
Yes it is safe.
It is impossible for someone to find your private key just from the transaction id/hex.
In fact, Raw TX are even displayed on block explorers like: blockchain.info (?format=hex added) which doesn't expose anything about security other than the transaction history.
5844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: China to have their own digital currency based on blockchain technology on: March 10, 2018, 03:53:54 AM
With all the replies regarding being centralized, what are the options for a Country to have its own blockchain-based digital currency?
I have mentioned this before: Create their own cryptocurrency or make use of the existing Digital Currencies.

A potential national currency needs to ne Centralized governed by them, whether you like it or not it will be centralized.
Why do people complain, will they use it? If they came from China, it may just replace Yuan not the digital currencies that they are hodling.

This is a logical step on the part of the Chinese authorities, they are trying to control the financial market of the country, this is their only opportunity
Yes it is, I don't know why most of the replies are negatives.
No cryptocurrencies were harmed or altered, a new unique one just added.
5845  Economy / Speculation / Re: Story about an anonymous trader buying $400m Bitcoin is wrong on: March 09, 2018, 11:28:49 AM
that news was wrong because it was saying 3Cbq7aT1tY8kMxWLbitaG7yT6bPbKChq64 address was buying bitcoin but it obviously belonged to an exchange called Huobi. possibly their cold storage.

and unless you have proof that transctions like these:
cb7abd706c8021ebb956d2763790532e2d9970c399c4e2ed5b1ae6f7949c57f4 (4571BTC)
b2e26b0b57b7b7dcf8b749dfeab4de70b9b6956e52f5376cae24dfe286d14214 (3037BTC+omni layer thing in it)
and so on are coming from this Kobayashi guy, it still doesn't proof anything if you ask me...
How about this address: 1MaUVgXCgdXLkmXwQ4WDek5yaK86zYXw2q?
I saw a thread saying that this might be the one responsible for the price dip. Since Last Year till February this year, it's been accumulating huge amount of Bitcoins.
Look at how fast and frequent the user sold that 100,000BTC. Although, it looks like another exchange cold storage address.
5846  Economy / Speculation / Re: Let me tell you exactly what's gonna happen on: March 09, 2018, 09:38:08 AM
i think worst case scenario is a flash crash to <1000 in the next three months. the 1200 previous high was never really tested during this bull run and I think some coins have to get sold in that range for us to move on....
You are missing a zero. $12,000 previous high.
and, and <$10,000 within three months can be considered stable for Bitcoin.  Lips sealed
5847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with unactivated windows on: March 09, 2018, 06:28:58 AM
Reminder from a fellow Windows 10 user:
Activated or not, Windows 10 "Windows Update" is like a torrent client.
Means that the previous update you downloaded are constantly sent to others who are needing them (like downloading, seeding and leeching)
Windows Update can't be disabled in the settings however, can be disabled in the Services.
The Torrent-like behavior can be disabled too in the advanced option. If you want to save bandwidth, disable it right away.

5848  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Portable Electrum only appears on task manager on Windows 7 on: March 09, 2018, 04:30:21 AM
Why do we even need a portable version?
A stand-alone version is available that can be used for removable disks.

Simply make a copy of the wallet file in the same folder where the stand-alone executable was located in the flash drive.

Anyone already tried this?
5849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The environmental problem on: March 08, 2018, 09:57:24 AM
-snip-
if you done some maths you would see moving fiat around uses more electric and is less secure than bitcoin
in short FIAT is less environmentally friendly
Just bitcoin, but all digital currencies in total can match the power consumption of banking systems.

But enough with the environmental damages, it's been discussed several times in the past.
Bitcoin blockchain is way more convenient than banks however, if banks cease to exist due to the introduction of blockchain in financial sector (that is impossible during our time) the problem would be less employment ratio.

Bitcoin's hashrate could grow too to consume even higher resources if mining become more competitive and if newer generations of ASICs failed to solve power efficiency.
5850  Other / Meta / Question about newbies with 100+ merits on: March 08, 2018, 06:39:33 AM
During my regular browsing in the Electrum Board I came across this user: GiGa#
who is a newbie and yet he already got the 100 default merit for Full Members which is not received nor displayed in his merit summary.

One theory I am thinking is he was a Full Member before January 25, 2018, previously banned which deleted all his posts then successfully recovered his account just recently leaving 100 merits to his account.

Or is it just a bug?

Any thoughts?
5851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Mining with Google Chrome on: March 08, 2018, 05:33:23 AM
Possible but still, has downsides.
I've seen a lot of API and sites that offers browser mining and most of them are for monero which must be based from Coinhive's code.

In my own experience, the most noticeable downside is the hashrate.
Regular (installed) Miners often outputs higher hashrate than browser-based mining. Also, the tab must be kept alive which isn't a major issue, but most of the time I'd been accidentally closing them.
There are sites with lots of bugs which when you stop mining, after re-opening the site (homepage) the cpu and gpu kicks to sub 100% at idle, means it's mining without crediting you due to a bad coding.

Then after some updates in my AV (Dec'17), most browser tab miners were blocked needing exception and deactivation hassle. I stopped trying since it's not convenient anyways.

5853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Do you guys ever get GPUs that need heatsink reseated? on: March 07, 2018, 08:36:39 AM
Most of my GPUs are secondhand, in my case, yes. Most of the time, they only need thermal paste reapplication.
Sometimes, the problem comes from a worn-out GPU.

For brand new ones, we can never tell if the product they handed you have defects or not. Those have never been tested to a stressful usage.
Only brands can tell, the products from a reputable brand could produce less defective GPUs than the ones from a substandard brand.
5854  Other / Meta / Re: Change username? on: March 07, 2018, 05:43:21 AM
Shocked thank you guys
This post was from October 2017.

According to the (unofficial) Rules:
Q: I want to change my forum username. What should I do?
A: You can either donate 50 BTC to become a VIP or PM theymos asking to change your username (although he rarely accepts such requests nowadays).

@Mame Those accounts (including the OP author) must've been bought.

But I highly doubt that Theymos will grant those types of requests.
Imagine if someone bought an account and he didn't like the username, if it is that easy for a username to be changed, a granted username change request will act as a promotion to account sellers.

Can't verify your signature.
SdqhuDo5cTHe2ABSbaKinoqZEKRp2zQqrU is not a Bitcoin Address,

I am seeing a lot of people signing messages with Segwit Address (starting with 3 or b).

There is no standard to verify these addresses.

Electrum is somehow verifying them, but only Electrum, and it's nonstandard.

In future there will a standard for those address, to be verified in any wallet, and not necessarily the same Electrum did. In future those signed messages may not be able to be verified. I think it's better to sign with a legacy address for now.
Nope, once other wallets support bc1 addresses, they will eventually be able to verify those addies.
5856  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.1 is out! on: March 06, 2018, 08:48:38 AM
Cannot use Memory-pool based fee estimation! I choose this option and close the settings window, after that I open the settings window again... and see ETA chosen instead of Memory-pool everytime!  I cannot choose  Memory-pool, Electrum doesn't remember my selection! My OS is Linux Debian 9.
Same with Windows7 using stand-alone executable. When Memory-pool is selected, it always return to ETA after opening the preferences.
When the transaction fee estimation was set to Mempool, the scroll displays ETA?(1.0MB per tip).
When ETA was selected (from Static), the scroll displays Static (Within 5 Blocks).
5857  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How exactly does hardfork work ? How can I study about it? on: March 06, 2018, 08:17:49 AM
But, software engineers who hardforked ended up with tons of them.

For example, litecoin developers ended up with tons of litecoin.

How did this happen?
Quite easy, them, the software engineers and the developers are the first persons to mine the succeding blocks.
The are no competitions in discovering the next blocks allowing them to hurdle a lot before the miners join in.

However, the "forked" coins from the previous blocks can not be claimed by them, without the addresses' private keys, even developers cannot claim those forked coins.
5858  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet: segwit and the @dresse starting with "3" on: March 06, 2018, 06:55:43 AM
It's probably better if you just create a new wallet and move all your coins from your old wallet.

Electrum's Segwit address will start with "bc1" (bech32 format), which is current not supported by several services/exchanges/explorers. So, for now you can create a Segwit wallet with addresses starting with a "3", since they are already supported by almost (if not all) services. Here is how you can do it:

1. Go to iancoleman's BIP39 seed generator[1] (optional - download the source code and run offline for better security);
2. Select 12 words and generate a new seed;
3. SAVE THIS SEED AND DON'T LOSE IT! You can't see it again in Electrum and without the seed you can't restore your wallet in the future;
4. Download Electrum;
5. While creating the wallet, select: Standard Wallet -> I already have a seed -> Paste the seed from step 2.
6. Click Options -> check "BIP39 seed" -> Next.
7. In the Derivation part, paste m/49'/0'/0'/0 and click next.
8. Now you have an Segwit wallet with addresses starting with 3.

[1] https://iancoleman.io/bip39/

Hello, I generated a "24 words" seed from iancoleman's BIP39 seed generator, not 12.
Which I've used to make my SegWit  P2SH-P2WPKH electrum wallet.
Question is, will there be any implications to the addresses generated or difference to the one which is made from a 12-word BIP39 seed?
5859  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I setup a few GPUs in order to mine? on: March 06, 2018, 06:18:34 AM
I suggest you to read more topics from this board Mining (Altcoins).

But since you wanted to start right after, for a newbie, start with NiceHash.
They even support rigs with one Supported GPU like GTX560ti (if you're tight in budget), ofcourse, the stronger the better.
Go to their profitability calculator to look for the supported devices.

Once you learned more, you can use the rig for pool mining.
5860  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Request : Bitcoin Vending machine for the poor ;-> on: March 05, 2018, 08:06:10 AM
This is too weird in every way.
Same idea can be done with fiat but no one does, simply because it's not conventional.

A regular vending machine that accepts Bitcoin doesn't even exist, where did you get the idea of a "charity version"?

Want to help the poor using Bitcoin?
Reach out to a charity foundation that does that and send them the funds, it wasn't that hard for anyone to sell Bitcoins for fiat or products.
It comes down to their credibility, if you trust them help them or advertise the foundation.

Or go to the forum's Lending Section and do the charity work. :P
