5861  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is a Bitcoin? on: January 24, 2014, 03:54:06 PM
It's the unholy union of banks, western union, gold, and Paypal.

Think Blade for Vampires, all of their strengths, none of their weaknesses.  We live in an increasingly online world, only makes sense to have a completely online method of payment/storage.

Especially with Coinkite or Bitcoin paper wallets for the traditionalists that need physical "cards" or "paper" to use day to day transactions, there really isn't that steep a barrier of entry.

Google knows this, so they're taking preliminary steps with BTC integration.  Amazon, Apple, and eBay are the big ones.  Any of those jump in...

BTCBTCBTC  for all my Bitpeople!   Grin
5862  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a bubble - Nobel Laureate in Economics on: January 24, 2014, 03:21:15 PM
But didn't the Bitcoin "bubble" burst 2 or 3 times already and still surge back up?
5863  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Block Errupter (Is it worth?) on: January 23, 2014, 06:30:30 PM
Wait... Are they Block Erupter Blades or Block Erupter USBs? If they are Block Erupter blades, I offer BTC0.02 per unit.

16 bucks for a blade?

5866  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next contender for the crown? on: January 23, 2014, 03:25:52 PM
Most of the asic pre-orders delivering this year are 28nm process.

Next contender is the 20nm die process followed by 14nm die process.

KNC is the first to 20nm die process with their upcoming Neptune.  They're promising 3TH/s but as their history shows, they underpromise and overdeliver(maybe 3.5 TH/s or higher).

14nm probably a year or 2 out at least.
5867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jamie Dimon Goes On The Attack On Bitcoin on: January 23, 2014, 02:25:36 PM
Of course Jamie Dimon goes on the attack on Bitcoin, it poses a real threat to JP Morgan Chase's credit card business!   Cheesy

I would be so happy if Google Adsense had an option to payout in BTC!

Or those forced video ads that you usually skip, if they paid you in Satoshis to watch the whole thing so you wouldn't click skip, man...
5869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ebay almost getting into bed with Bitcoin, PayPal c$ckblocking on: January 22, 2014, 10:52:15 PM
I wish Target offered Bitcoin as an alternative payment method after their hacking incident.  It would show forward thinking on their part, and a way to avoid customer backlash in the future.

That would be an unbelievable publicity and media push for BTC...
5870  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tell Google what you'd like it to do with Bitcoin on: January 22, 2014, 10:45:46 PM
God I hope so!

Ebay flirting with Bitcoin, now Google passing notes under the desk to BTC's friends to see if she's available.   Grin

Apple, Amazon, get off your fat ass and wine and dine Bitcoin, she's waiting for you behind the bleachers!   Cool
5871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ebay almost getting into bed with Bitcoin, PayPal c$ckblocking on: January 22, 2014, 10:11:36 PM
Ebay says "No" now, but we all know "No" means Yes!   Tongue

They're hedging their bets for now, and will see if PayPal's "coin" takes off or is a dud.  If BTC keeps growing in stature and value, they'll have no choice.

Especially with Icahn shoving 2 of his employees inside Ebay's board.

Ebay owns Paypal.

Not for long...

Ebay is already creating a "Virtual Currency" category amidst sales of Bitcoin in the US and now the UK.  They're ever so close to embracing BTC as a payment method with it's fee-less fast transaction based structure, but their long marriage with PayPal looms as the biggest hurdle.  Ebay probably will hedge it's bets in the future, and offer both payment options.  If BTC growth in the media and masses continue, you can bet your ass Ebay will dump PayPal in the street like a $20 whore!

5875  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens in china on the 31st Jan? on: January 15, 2014, 07:54:28 PM
I think you're thinking of Chinese New Year which falls on January 31st this year.

Quote
Bitcoin faces a fresh obstacle in China as Alibaba, the countrys largest e-commerce group, will ban bitcoin transactions starting January 14.

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd's Taobao, Chinas largest online marketplace, will not allow any transactions of virtual currencies or related products, the Financial Times reports.

Alibaba Group, an internet group of e-commerce businesses that handled over $170 billion in sales in 2012, expects to hold an initial public offering later this year, and banning bitcoin and steering clear of the sale of counterfeit goods is seen as an extra precaution.

Banning the anonymous virtual currency will promote the healthy development of the Taobao Marketplace and to more effectively protect the interests of Taobao members, Alibaba said in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday.

Users will not only be barred from buying and selling bitcoins, but all related activities, including mining the currency, which is the creation of new bitcoins through solving complex logarithmic equations.

The move is part of a larger government crackdown on the cryptocurrency, which has fast gained traction in China, the worlds second-largest economy and home to the largest bitcoin trading platforms.

In December, the Peoples Bank of China banned third party sales of bitcoin, and placed a ban on financial institutions dealing with bitcoin, ordering them to halt activities by January 31, the beginning of the Chinese New Year holiday.

After hitting a $1000 high in December, prices plummeted on the Central Banks announcement, but has since rebounded, after Zynga, the provider of social network games such as FarmVille, said it would accept the digital money in some of its titles.

Bitcoin has faced harsh criticism from governing bodies in Europe, India, and in the US, with regulators skeptical of the cryptocurrency.

Since its creation in 2008 by a man using the alias Satoshi Nakmoto, bitcoin has gone mainstream and can be used to buy coffee, pay for online dating services, and can even be retrieved from an ATM. There are more than 12 million bitcoins in circulation worldwide.
