5901  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANNOUNCE GLBSE] Pirate Pass Through Bonds on: April 17, 2012, 11:09:19 PM
What do you think is Pirate's probability of defaulting?
I personally think it's 100% - but the real question is: Will he default during the 28 days I have invested in this bond? Wink

Nah, but he surely will lower his interest rates like he has before.

Looks like the price is breaking down.  Brace for impact...

That's a lot of buying volume for a break down...
5905  Economy / Speculation / Re: We finally did it! The price is stable!!! on: April 17, 2012, 10:04:48 PM
And holy crap, how did this thread go from stupid to pedo in 0.4 nanoseconds?

Taking thread back on track:

Back on track we go.

Will you also offer a short ETF?
5907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Email from Dwolla Regarding Reversals on: April 17, 2012, 09:43:29 PM
Now selling Dwolla to mtgox service for 0.50 cents.  Just send funds to https://www.dwolla.com/hub/812-665-7282 with the MTGOX comment that MtGox uses to identify your account.  I will keep a quarter and send it on to MtGox with the comment intact.  I'll probably get my account marked for these requirements before long, and I'll be doing it manually so there will be a delay while I sleep and when I'm AFK, but I can process them within 12 hours from now until Friday, April 20th (I'll be travelling Saturday) or until I get marked.  Of course, there's a chance I'm already marked for having transacted with MtGox, so I would appreciate it if someone who's account doesn't meet the requirements could check and let me know.

Dwolla account ID # 812-665-7282 has been suspended.

Oh well.  At least my account was empty.

That was to be expected! You shouldn't have posted it publicly in the forum. Do you think they are not here looking into these threads?

Meh.
5908  Economy / Speculation / Re: We finally did it! The price is stable!!! on: April 17, 2012, 09:34:36 PM
just like right before the explosion.

Yyyyyyyup.

"We" didn't stabilise anything - bigger markets are in a general malaise right now, which means their influence is not adversely affecting smaller markets as much... for the time being.

Enjoy this calm while it lasts - I don't think we'll have it for more than a month or two.

And holy crap, how did this thread go from stupid to pedo in 0.4 nanoseconds?

I blame the Agent.
5909  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [Bitarb] GET A FREE SHARE FOR HELPING! Bitcoin Arbitrage Bot Trading Fund on: April 17, 2012, 08:26:25 PM
How about just posting a screenshot of the mtgox account it is trading on? That way people can calculate for themselves, and this speculation that you have spent the money on drinks can stop.
If this operation is run in an honest way that would be very easy, but I somehow doubt we will ever see a screenshot.

Instead of saying right now the bot has 50BTC and $240 you post a long winded reply about some useless info...

I would be ok with totals for each currency, but please do not post a screenshot with orders.

Ummm..... WTF?

Anyway, price action is getting boring, who's ready for the knife?
5914  Economy / Economics / Re: Current Bitcoin inflation rate = 35%. Price = stable on: April 17, 2012, 07:07:27 PM
False.... energy went into producing the equipment to capture your so-called "free" energy.

Which could be free energy as well.

Sure, but then you just get into really complicated calculus that nobody wants to do.  And you of course need to factor in all the human food consumption as well as the electricity they use to sustain themselves.... the whole point is it's way too fucking complicated to use that formula outside of an insulated business setting where you can account for every watt.
5915  Economy / Economics / Re: Current Bitcoin inflation rate = 35%. Price = stable on: April 17, 2012, 07:01:01 PM
Somewhat iron given your (bad) example is that slash and burn WAS (and still is in some parts of the world) an effective way to convert forest to farmland.  One of the reasons is that because as you point out it has a very high EROI. Smiley

It's effective as long as you only burn down forest at the rate it regenerates.  That's the point.  EROEI is not a sufficient metric in isolation.

The energy used in these endeavors must be used in the formula.

Actually now that I re-read your post this is an important point I meant to address.  We have to make an absolute distinction between renewable and non-renewable resources.  If the energy used to research more efficient oil drilling methods is obtained from solar energy for instance, then it absolutely does not need to be included in any formula.  It is free energy and it doesn't matter in the least whether it is wasted or used efficiently.

Well I would say history is about to repeat itself and that Bitcoin's about to go to $100 Cheesy (at the arbitrary value of 1BTC = 100 million Satoshis -- how did the developers know where to put the decimal point?)...
but I still can't order pizza online for Bitcoin, so the rally is cancelled. Angry

The decimal point was arbitrary and fairly irrelevant to the functioning of the system.  If 1 Satoshi becomes too valuable, we can upgrade to x > 8 significant digits after the decimal.

Someone please explain to me how having a Facebook account makes a person less likely to be committing fraud?

Who says it does. Maybe they just want your FB info for marketing? I bet if I had your social connections I could identify several hot leads.  Sad

Scam accounts are friends with scam accounts.  When you connect to fb, they pull all your friends in.

1.  There needs to be a lite and quick personal client.   When the client has been offline for a bit, it can take way to long to catch up.

I understand people are working on such things. See Electrum, for example.

Also, the mechanism that the official client uses to download the blockchain is ridiculously slow. I've found that it takes over 24 hours to download the whole thing on a fresh install of the client, and I can get a TV show of the same size in under ten minutes from iTunes. I have no idea if there's something about the technology that requires it to be that way, but it's not the size of the data being downloaded that makes it so slow.

Try the latest client.  I read they've got it down to an hour or two, but I haven't downloaded it from scratch with the new code.
