5921  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why You Haven't Seen Miners Leave in Hordes..... on: October 01, 2011, 01:50:41 AM
Don't forget the botnets!  Since there is now malware out that can utilize a person's GPU to mine coins, I wouldn't be surprised if as much as 1/3 of all the TH/s is acquired through botnet activity.

1/3rd??? how do you figure that number?  that would be PR disaster for bitcoin...
Just a guess.  But I wouldn't be surprised.

Antivirus agencies have already reported on systems being infected with GPU-mining trojans.  Since such viruses are out in the wild, who knows how many systems have been infected?  I think the last estimate was there was something like 50,000 GPU's making up the total amount of hashing power.  And there's how many computers in the world?  Several billion?  Granted, the vast vast majority of those do not have a graphics card capable of producing more than a few MH/s, but still, it wouldn't take much of a percentage of those billions of computers having a trojan to make up a decent amount of the total hashing power in the Bitcoin network.

Think about it...
5922  Other / Politics & Society / Abortion on: October 01, 2011, 01:46:34 AM
That's like saying I have a right to put a knife through someones chest, because I have a right to control my own body, even if the life of someone else depends on what I do with my body.

That's not even close. If you want to make an analogy, it would be like me kicking a person out of my house even though they will freeze to death outside.
Ok, we'll go with that.  It'd be like kicking a newborn baby out of your house, even though they will freeze to death outside.

Actually, it's even worse than that.  It's like locking a newborn baby in a cage outside of your house, and not allowing anyone to touch him/her, while he/she freezes to death outside.  After all, if you have an abortion, it's certain death - not death only if no one steps in to help.

What about for example if you borrow money just to have a little extra in your wallet in case somthing unexpected happen, but it's not more than what you already have in the wallet or in the bank?
I don't understand - why would I need a loan to do that?  Why not just withdraw however much extra cash I wanted on hand out of my bank account directly?
5924  Other / Politics & Society / Abortion on: October 01, 2011, 01:40:31 AM
What is he nuts on?

Abortion. I'm still voting for him though since it's unlikely he can change the current abortion laws.

He wants to leave the abortion issue to the States instead of having the Federal government intervene.  He's pointed out that before Roe v Wade doctors would perform abortions anyway for certain cases (rape, certain harm to the mother, etc.).  I guess I fail to see how that makes him nuts.  But you're right in that he doesn't believe in a president exceeding constitutional powers and so is unlikely to be able to change something like abortion without congressional support.

The fact he's against abortion is what bothers me. The fact he claims to be a libertarian yet doesn't understand that a woman removing a baby from her womb is her right also bothers me.

It's only her right if the baby is not a human life yet, correct?  If it's a human life she has no more right to kill the baby than she would to kill her three-year-old child outside the womb.  In pure libertarian philosophy she could simply stop feeding the baby and let someone else take care of it, but she can't kill it because that would violate the baby's right to not be murdered.  So the difficulty is defining when life begins and what life is.

I said remove from her womb, not kill. She has the right to control her own body, even if the life of someone else depends on what she does with her body.
That's like saying I have a right to put a knife through someones chest, because I have a right to control my own body, even if the life of someone else depends on what I do with my body.

I never understood why the conservative party names themselves the Republicans, whereas the liberal party names themselves the Democrats.  Yet, the US is a Republic, not a Democracy.  Ironic...

It's an political artifact from the 1800s.

They were originally one party, the Democratic Republican party, founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in 1792, in opposition to the Federalist party led by Alexander Hamilton.

They split up in the 1820s into the Jackson Men (led by Andrew Jackson, which became the Democratic party in 1844) and the National Republican party (Led by Henry Clay and John Quincy Adams, which was absorbed by the Whig party in 1832 after Clay was defeated in the presidential election, which then became the modern Republican party in 1854).
Interesting, thanks for the history.  Didn't know much about that.

DEMOCRACY IS BAD BUT I REFUSE TO OFFER UP AN ALTERNATIVE SYSTEM WHICH WOULD BE FAIRER - Every single poster on this forum, to be perfectly honest
I don't think you want a system to be completely, 100% fair.  But I'll have to think about that... sometimes, the best thing for society isn't what is fair.

Regardless, a republic is the best system a government can use.  A true democracy would allow media to control the government - they could sway the people however they wanted just by publicizing garbage.

When you dine in a restaurant, you're in debt until you pay the check...
I view debt as unable to immediately pay the balance in full, and not by using another form of debt to accomplish it.  Dining at a restaurant wouldn't count as debt in that case.
5927  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Debt is Sin (hamartia ἁμαρτία , hatta'at חָטָא) on: September 30, 2011, 09:13:41 PM
I'm not a religious man, but I find it interesting that Judeo-Christian-Islamic teachings strongly opposed usury and debt. In fact, the entire motif of original sin, through redemption, judgement and forgivess are all related to debt. If you replaced every instance of the word 'sin' in the bible with 'debt', I think it would make just as much, if not more sense.

Sin in original Greek hamartia (ἁμαρτία) and Hebrew hatta'at or hata' (חָטָא) means "to miss the mark" or failure to repay DEBT, and could be repaid through sacrifice. Satan tempts us with debt, the fortunes of the flesh now with pain and suffering in the future. We are born with original debt.

According to David Graeber:
Quote from: David Graeber
In Sanskrit, Hebrew, Aramaic, ‘debt,’ ‘guilt,’ and ‘sin’ are actually the same word. Much of the language of the great religious movements – reckoning, redemption, karmic accounting and the like – are drawn from the language of ancient finance.
I agree with this sentiment.  I will never go into debt again, once I am out of the hole I've dug for myself at this point.

Well, according to liberals, with a majority of scientists saying that global warming is true makes it so.

So if a majority of Bitcoin forum users believe that democracy is a bad idea, then it is. You must accept it. Laws must be put in place based on it. Taxes must be passed to deal with it.

Alternatively you could live in the real world.

Tell that to the Iraqis. They supposedly have a democracy thanks to the Americans.

Yes.  And for all the crap they inflict on one another, there is a less oppression than under the dictatorship.  Thanks for reminding us that democracy is better than dictatorship.  Do let us know if the Pope really is a Catholic and where bears go for a shit...its bound to be equally surprising.
Lulz.

My opinion:
Republic > Democracy > Dictatorship/Communism/Marxism/Monarchy/Etc

Which is why I am glad I live in a republican nation.  A true Democracy would never work.

I never understood why the conservative party names themselves the Republicans, whereas the liberal party names themselves the Democrats.  Yet, the US is a Republic, not a Democracy.  Ironic...

5933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TrueCrypt doesn't accept bitcoin donations!? on: September 30, 2011, 06:22:49 PM
BTCinch has the ability to do this. If you PM me your email address, I'll send you some, too. Smiley

why keep this method of sending bitcoin secret,

just describe how u did it...
I imagine BTCinch has some sort of an instant-wallet method of sending coins.  So you send an email to a person that has a link to an instant wallet, and viola!  Bitcoins!

You should implement a firstbits address directly into the blockexplorer page for each Bitcoin address.

5937  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SkepsiDyne Integrated Node - The Bitcoin Mining Company on: September 29, 2011, 05:38:24 PM
This week I will begin collecting dividends equal to that of the payout to shareholders, so all profits from generated BTC will be paid out, and no more will be reinvested back into the company at this time.  If and when we begin to expand once more, we will then discuss how much profit should be reinvested into the company, but for now all profits will be paid out.

Wait, I don't understand how it is possible for you to be collecting dividends equal to that of the payout to shareholders.  You haven't paid for that many shares yet, have you?

As far as I can tell, a total of 202.7945 BTC in dividends has been paid out to other shareholders so far.  If an equal amount has been paid out to you (and reinvested in the company to pay for your shares), then you also effectively have received 202.7945 BTC.  At 0.75 BTC per share, this means that you have paid for 202.7945 / 0.75 = 270.39 shares.  If 2304 shares have been sold so far, and you have only have 270.39 shares, you should not be collecting dividends equal to the payout of other shareholders.  You should only be collecting dividends equal to 270.39 shares, since that is the number of shares you have earned via reinvestment.  If dividends aren't going to be reinvested back in the company, you should only be collecting dividends proportional to the number of shares you have paid for, and the rest of the dividends should be split among all shareholders.

From your first post in this thread:
Quote
I hold an amount of shares equal to the number of shares sold from the IPO + 1, and receives dividends on that basis.  These shares are paid off from dividends, so all dividends paid to me are reinvested back into the company in order to pay for my shares.  I will collect dividends normally once these shares are paid for.

You said you will only "collect dividends normally once your shares are paid for," which hasn't happened yet.

And from the amended contract you posted at

16.865 BTC on July 27, 2011 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=8167.msg404918#msg404918
25.76 BTC on August 10, 2011 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=8167.msg447073#msg447073
16.39 BTC on August 17, 2011 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=8167.msg464132#msg464132
13.3345 BTC on August 25, 2011 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=8167.msg480531#msg480531
0.205 BTC on September 3, 2011 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=8167.msg500715#msg500715
2.245 BTC on September 8, 2011 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=8167.msg515533#msg515533
(Did Tawsix already start collecting on Sept 8, or were an equal 2.245 BTC reinvested to pay for his shares?)

Total paid out to other shareholders:
34.235 + 35.895 + 19.435 + 16.235 + 22.195 + 16.865 + 25.76 + 16.39 + 13.3345 + 0.205 + 2.245 = 202.7945 BTC
(202.7945 BTC is about 270 shares at 0.75 BTC per share)

Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding something, but it seems like Tawsix should be collecting dividends equal to the ~270 shares he has earned, not collecting dividends equal to the 2304 shares that have been sold on glbse.

It might be ok to stop reinvesting back in the company (although that should probably be put to a vote), however if you stop reinvesting then you should be capping yourself at 270 shares, not pretending you've paid for 2304 shares.
This "company" is a joke.  Seriously.  Tawsix constantly avoid questions like this.

I'm just glad it's only 2 BTC I invested.

I've already tried emailing the alias email address with no response.

Well, maybe someday the owner of one of those domains will contact me.  If anyone hears anything about it, please direct them to this thread.

Well, I'm holding what I have for the time being.  I do believe this is a panic sell and we will see a rebound.  How far, I'm not sure, but given the volumes that have been traded, there's just a lot of people who have been scared of the recent price drops and sold in a panic.

We'll see...
