Religion still exist because people fear death.
Gods (v2.01) exist for the same reasons.
That's why the ancient gods faded away , people started to understand how this thing called Earth works.
One thing they haven't been able to explain is death , and if there is something beyond. We fear that so we need hope.

We're still a bunch of monkeys Smiley

I think most people do not really fear death.  They live in the moment and do not even think about the afterlife at all.  They basically pretend that they are not going to die and live life accordingly.

I think that a wise person considers the thought that there might be something more than just what we see in the physical world.  Eternity has been put into the hearts of man.  The idea that we even think about eternity should speak to us and give us the thought that there is more then just this physical life we are living now.

Yeah , that's why most people run like rabbits or jump into a garbage bin at the sound of a gunshot.

If they think they are about to die within the very near future, then sure.  But most people wander though life without giving their death much thought.  Maybe they will write a will, set up a trust fund for their heirs and select a burial spot but even this is done when people are much older and actually thinking about what is to come.  But most people in their 20's and 30's and even 40's live life without much care about the afterlife and are not really "afraid" of it on a daily basis.  They just don't think about it.

Well , not thinking about it's not the same as not being afraid of it.
It's like at an exam when you know there are only 5 minutes left and you try desperately to find the answers.

5944  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China's Central Bank says: No Longer in China’s Interest to Increase Reserves on: December 04, 2013, 11:59:33 AM
so basically now china wants the strengthen its own currency, which will drive out foreign investment right?

It will drive out weak and debt based investment, if other countries want to trade with them they're going to have to fix up their economies and make their currency worth something to others. Not only that, we have Bitcoin ffs, it's worth $1000 right now, I'm pretty sure that any of us who have half a brain are going to be entirely capable of trading with the Chinese.

The people who complain about a rising Yuan are the ones who benefit from the previous system of money printing.

Are you insane?
A strong yuan will kill 90% of the chinese exports. Why the hell do you think they keep the price in check and only allow small fluctuation.
5945  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Block erupters absolutely waste of money now? on: December 04, 2013, 11:57:46 AM
2050??? No need to step so far into future. Who knows how the race goes on in 2014/2015?

Best case would be that some kind of saturation accurs and difficulty turns into linear growth but that's very optimistical. I agree it's sad that one needs quite a lot of GH/s for reasonable mining.

Not at all, if the miner is cheap and power effecient, you can mine profitably very long. I waiting for 2014 if the miners will be cheap finally, so far very expensive for small piece of hardware...

Why will the miners be cheap? Any reason for it?
Miners will have their price based on the cost of manufacturing and also on the return they can get.
I see no reasons right now for cheap miners with 25000usd reward every 10 minutes.
5946  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Block erupters absolutely waste of money now? on: December 04, 2013, 11:56:02 AM
I decided to buy cloud hashing power at Cex rather than buy obsolete hardware that will have no value whatsoever in 2014.

And you Gh will be worthless with a difficulty increase that will happen very soon. Hf is supposed to start shipping also BA.
5947  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Block erupters absolutely waste of money now? on: December 04, 2013, 11:54:31 AM
Mining is a waste of money now,
dont do it

If mining is a waste of money , Why do people still mine?
Maybe because it's profitable?
5948  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoins = tulips on: December 04, 2013, 11:50:18 AM
While generally agreeing that tulips and bitcoin are nowhere near the same thing, we are still currently expanding the bitcoin supply.  If you exclude satoshi wallets, lost wallets, and other frozen coins like fbi stash and some super long term bull holders then bitcoin supply is currently expanding at a rate of probably between 10-20% per year.  So currently we are certainly growing more bitcoins.  And I won't even mention litecoin since that didn't even half yet.

But you should take a look at the new alts coming up , they might be only 0,1% of the value , but at the rate they appear on the market they could hit 50% of the BTC market cap.
Although I do think altcoins are a bubble.
5949  Economy / Economics / Re: Please Read!! Help Stop This Madness. on: December 04, 2013, 11:45:02 AM
That's because litecoin is tiny. Same thing will eventually happen there if it ever becomes big enough. In the meanwhile, merchants around the world accept bitcoin and just bitcoin. That makes all the others pure speculation. If bitcoin falls so will the rest. Which means if you want altcoins to succeed, support bitcoin.

Depends on what reason bitcoin falls.

If it falls due to hacking of the sha-256 algorithm, then alt-coins relying on a different algo, especially those that rely on multiple algos, like Quarkcoin will likely survive and even prosper.

If bitcoin falls for some other reason not specific to bitcoin's features (internet is shut down for example), then other alt-coins will naturally fall with it.

Oh, I support bitcoin, don't worry about it, I am just trying to stay objective and rational here and to see proper value in other coins.

What you see is potential value , but that is just a dream. Alt coins price is now driven by the media madness around bitcoin and people who can't get into bitcoin mining and turn to alts hoping to get rich. Alt coins have no use right now , you can't do anything with them , just trade them to BTC.

P2P? Decentralized?
Well, unless it really gets used. Then you are gonna need centralized servers for the full block chain and prune the blockchain on normal clients and nodes.
Nope , the blockchain can be compressed or it can be implemented a new change , erasing older transaction that are no longer needed.
No need to panic.
Ah right, luckily the normal person using this stuff aint gonna need the whole block chain, luckily.
Btw, du you know what the word "prune" means?

What part of the " pruning " you don't get?
That's the whole point of reducing the blockchain , so normal users can still run a node.
There won't be a need for datacenters.

He calmly stripped the accounts over DAYS and left fake balances in them so no one would notice until he took the lot.

Pretty well-planned - he must have thought through an exit route - at least a personal one.  And he still controls the wallet... for now....

You know , usually the plan fails at the last 2-3 steps. Not at the first ones.
Btw , any news on the TF hunt?
5954  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 03, 2013, 11:34:55 PM
The best course of action for the guy is to extort Bitcoins from you guys on a bitcoin related tor site by means of a signed message saying: Send me more coins or I will dump. Grin

This almost makes me send a Satoshi with the message: "Dump Moth*** , Dump If you have the balls"

Now some Very Bad News for the Bulls:

Why would this be bad news in any situation? Was the SR shutdown bad news for bulls? We all know the answer.

By the way, we are about to go up (for some other reasons), just watch Wink

In the SR  episode the bitcoins were safe , the FBI won't sell them for a few years until the trial ends.
In the sheep case , we have one fugitive trying to run with money , and the scenario he might try to dump them .

He will have to lie low - any fiat that turns up in large quantities will be noticed...

It's not like he needs to sell all of them at once - 1% will fund hiding away for a year - assuming he hasn't already got some money to keep him for a while.

He's only at risk when he shows up with fiat or large coin movements....

We have a guy , previously running a drug market , running away with 90 Millions , trying to make them vanishing but seeing his efforts nuked , with people threatening him (and not normal people) with a media fuss around. Do you think he can keep calm and act by the book ?

Got to love how things evolve here.
Weeks of silence only a few people were angry on HF.
Updates , pictures , tweets coming and the pitchforks are on fire.

You're chasing the rabbit. It's the same story:

OKPay is another Russian company registered  abroad (British Virgin Islands) for fiscal purposes.

They operate through a network of banks in Cyprus, Czech Republic and Russia, so that should tell you something...

CoinDesk may have gotten the pretty side of the story. Russia and Cyprus sound a lot worse than just saying you operate in Czech Rep.

And it seems that this Russian company doesn't want to anger Uncle Sam even a bit.
Remember the gox episode? And the current ban on us residents?

It seems they care a bit to much for people backed by the Putin Bear.

Check the fbi address or others in the top100.

Worthless for mining, but invaluable for the education in Bitcoin mining that you will get.

Anyone who does not fully understand the mining process will definitely lose
most or all the money they spend on miners. And fully understanding the
mining process does not mean that you will automatically make money.

Common , let's not use such great words for a piece of crap composed of a chip and 10 grams of Chinese plastic.
