5941  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's Recent Drop Below $60K Is Not Worrisome, Analyst Says on: November 17, 2021, 07:46:06 PM
Bitcoin did a 50% growth and went 7% downwards, oh my God!

I find it unlikely to drop below $50k, but obviously not impossible. This is a very important month and I'm feeling specially optimistic. I've been waiting for the November and December of 2021 long time now. If the market repeats the same behavior it had in 2017 and 2013, we may even touch the $200k.

This is what I call a perfect dip. (And the one at $29k)
5942  Economy / Services / Re: Domain Registration & Word press hosting using bitcoin on: November 17, 2021, 05:53:10 PM
I don't want to be blamed for affiliation, as I have none, but I have to recommend this. It's porkbun. Besides the acceptance of cryptocurrencies, it's cheap and has a plethora of domain names. Since I found that, I've never used any other domain name hoster.

If you want to make even deeper analysis, use tld-list.com. This way, you can find out which one is cheaper in both registration and renewal.
5943  Other / Meta / Re: Wrong information about BitcoinTalk history on Wikipedia on: November 17, 2021, 01:31:29 PM
And I have also told that information in Wikipedia are not something you really should relay on. So who cares?
But, lots read it. Yes, it's not a trustworthy source of information, but most of the readers won't question the author for false presumptions. Besides, the article wasn't wrong at all; it just wasn't neat enough. A forum so big, with such history deserves a long read.

I fixed the Wikipedia page and am going to clean it up of all these childish attacks too.
Nice! I saw you added the “HODL” reference. Maybe adding some others such as the 10,000 BTC pizzas, the Wall Observer, Satoshi design of the first logo, the first exchange etc.

See this for more: Caption results.
5944  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are implications of total satellite destruction on Bitcoin? on: November 17, 2021, 10:37:47 AM
That was a mild joke that I like to make in most cases like in all doomsday scenarios where people are worried about "assets" whereas in a real scenario they would be running after shelter, food, water, etc.
If it was a “mild joke”, then excuse me for my lack of humor. I've just seen you again rejecting the asset & investment characterization when it comes to bitcoin. Yes, it's a currency, but it's also an investment and an asset. Just because someone uses it only for their investment portfolio doesn't exclude the other two. Same goes for a person who sees it exclusively as a currency.

Like, for example, how do we get an easier to use wallet so that newbies don't get so afraid to see all the signing transactions and broadcasting and choosing coins and inputs and fee to pay:)
There's no other way. They have to educate themselves.

A well decentralized Bitcoin would still continue to run [...]
No, you don't understand. Every electronic device won't work in the scenario of a solar storm, not just satellites.
5945  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Passcode Length on: November 17, 2021, 10:09:24 AM
Just wondering if, way back in the beginning, passcodes were ever 10 words instead of 12? Thanks.
At the beginning, there were no words. Just private keys and wallet files. These seed phrases of BIP39 came along in 2013 with the HD (hierarchical deterministic) wallets that are mentioned above.

No, the words were never 10 unless you used a brainwallet. The seed phrases can be 12, 15, 18, 21 or 24 words long. You can also generate with 3, 6 or 9 words, but it's not recommended to due to less security.
5946  Other / Meta / Re: Wrong information about BitcoinTalk history on Wikipedia on: November 17, 2021, 09:56:22 AM
I just search about BitcoinTalk in wikipedia. It shows BitcoinTalk Launched in 2011 and registered in August 2011.
Bitcointalk, as a trademark title, was registered in August 2011. The forum's domain began as a directory of bitcoin dot org. Specifically, bitcoin.org/smf. Then, in 2010, it changed to forum.bitcoin.org and in August 2011, they moved it to bitcointalk.org after a long email discussion.

See: Forum moved to bitcointalk.org

I'm disappointed no one has taken the time to write a little bit more about our forum, but indeed left an article that only describes really summarily its history and scams...
5947  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Two beginner crypto management questions. on: November 16, 2021, 08:26:26 PM
Hi and welcome to the perfect place if you're having troubles with understanding. Your first question should be answered, but I'll try clearing some things up for the second.

2) If I buy more BTC and transfer it to my cold wallet, does it just get added to my existing amount on the cold wallet? Or does it exist as a separate amount, separate transaction?
If you transfer funds to your cold storage, they'll be added in the existing amount of coins. The amount of coins you own in a wallet is never separate. Your wallet sums all the outputs of the transactions it loads and that sum is your amount.

The transactions are obviously separate. If you received 1 BTC in Monday, that would be considered one transaction where the output is 1 BTC. If you then, in Wednesday, received another bitcoin, it'd be another transaction. If you sum all the outputs of all of your transactions, then that's your balance.

If this didn't answer on your question, then it's possibly because you wanted to ask something else, but formulated it improperly.
5948  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Face2Face is not Bitcoin ethics on: November 16, 2021, 08:15:42 PM
I can never go for face-to-face crypto trading in a country that kidnapping has been on the rise which has been due to bad economy.
There are exceptions when it comes to kidnapping, but in developed countries this isn't a usual phenomenon. In any way, if you're someone who respects their privacy, then using centralized exchanges contradicts.

It is not that common on the crypto news, but there are few cases of physical attack that I have read about on crypto news, the last one I read was on cointelegraph last year when a woman that has trusted her client but came to her office all to steal her money and have nothing to offer. It was a successful operation.  If I could get the link I would have posted it here.
Yes, I've read for such incident in the past too, here in Greece. Two guys had arranged to exchange fiat for XLM, one of those went to the bathroom for a while after he had sent the XLM for cash and the buyer (who disappointingly, was young) went in and ripped him off. The victim talked to Binance and fortunately got their XLM back.
5949  Other / Meta / Re: How to access/ search old/ archived Bitcointalk forum? on: November 16, 2021, 08:05:43 PM
Do you want to read old discussions? Select a sub-forum and go the last page. Do you want to search something specific? Use the search engine, preferably the Google one as it's ten times faster.

If you want to search a specific user's posts, click on their profile and you'll find both lists of posts and topics. For instance, check satoshi.
5950  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are implications of total satellite destruction on Bitcoin? on: November 16, 2021, 07:33:15 PM
We've used to live with the internet nowadays just like we did with television, phone, fridge; it has become a need. Therefore, it's pretty obvious that if we somehow lost it, we may have some hard crisis due to that fact. It depends on how we'd lose it. If it's the solar storm, that media have stated, then I suspect cryptocurrencies to gain the least attention.

We will probably starve to death.

As for the bitcoin related part, bitcoin is not an asset, it is a currency Tongue
I sometimes wonder how a so knowledgeable person like you thinks so closed-mindedly.
5951  Other / Meta / Re: People should be aware on: November 16, 2021, 04:56:30 PM
I sent a private message to another user about deleted posts and minutes later several dozen of my posts were deleted by the 'administrator'.
And does that mean that they read your messages? This means that the dozen of your posts are against the rules. Would you mind telling us what exactly you told them “about deleted posts” that made you conclude they're spying on you?

Be careful with any private messages you send on this forum.
If you feel your messages are sensitive, you should encrypt them. The forum says that your personal messages' privacy isn't guaranteed.
5952  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Face2Face is not Bitcoin ethics on: November 16, 2021, 04:50:10 PM
In a face to face arrangement, the people don't mind each other's business and therefore, don't ask for personal information. In centralized exchanges, they may require even your blood type.

It is not used as a currency perse it is simply traded.
Note that currencies are meant to be traded/exchanged. Their purpose isn't to only be used as a medium of exchanging goods and services. An example is Forex trading. Some other times, there's need to exchange USD with EUR. (e.g., If you left the US and went to Europe)

Bitcoin is a digital currency encrypted on the Blockchain
There's nothing encrypted in the block chain. That's why we call it transparent.
5953  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The US President New Restrictions on Crypto Businesses on: November 16, 2021, 04:35:27 PM
What's this non-sense crypto language that brings transparency to the IRS they're talking about? Looks like a FUD to me... Besides, isn't this an indication for global adoption?

Do you think it is just a short dumped for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies?
Yes.

What good it will do to the economy , to the government and to all crypto enthusiast?
Depends on what you're referring to. What will the taxes do to the economy or the fact that there'll be more regulation in the cryptocurrency industry?

5955  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core error? on: November 15, 2021, 07:48:47 PM
Yeah, it means you haven't upgraded to 0.21.1. The version you're using doesn't have the rules of the Taproot soft fork. The nodes you're connecting to, essentially, tell you this; that there are new rules introduced.

To get rid of it, you'll have to upgrade. You may continue using your installed version, but you won't be able to verify Taproot transactions. To avoid this, just get the latest release: https://bitcoincore.org/en/download/
5956  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Creating a privacy coin? on: November 15, 2021, 07:40:27 PM
There's BEAM which as far as I've understood does what Ethereum does plus CryptoNote. That's probably what you're looking for.

Is forking a coin like monero or bytecoin the only way to create a privacy coin?
Obviously not; the existence of those two reveals the opposite. One may make one from scratch.

There aren't privacy smart contracts yet that allow creating natively private tokens
There are probably lots, excluding the one I just mentioned.
5957  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: sent btc by mistake on: November 15, 2021, 04:03:54 PM
is this wallet refers to WL?

Are you asking if you should refer Electrum to WikiLeaks? No, there's no reason to do that.
5958  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Divisibility Past 1 Satoshi on: November 15, 2021, 04:02:55 PM
If the asset is significantly appreciated, then we may have to increase the decimals, but I think we're far from this appreciation.

I can think of many things: VPN per minute ($0.00012) or VOIP calls per minute ($0.005). Or movie streaming per minute. Or maybe a Tor browser integrated captcha solving service, or in-game micropayments.
But none of those are paid in cash. If you used your VPN for 1,000 minutes, you'd pay $0.12. If you used it another minute, you wouldn't pay another $0.00012 as there isn't such subunit for the dollar. The smallest one is $0.01. Anything lower than that requires trust between the participants or in other words, it's an IOU.

Not to mention that you'd never pay in cash for any of the given examples, but by using an intermediary.
