Along these lines, Are they still just paralleling a heap'o fet buck regulators into one common set of power planes? If so, for god sakes why???
The same company that make the one in the 2-chip reference design also makes a 16ch one. For 8 chips you could give each its own independent Vcore supply with current monitoring for mainly only the cost of 4 more mosfets and 2 more buck inductors... If a chip fails hard the regulator kills power to it and tells ya. Not rocket science here.

As in probably some Vdd pads pulling different currents leading to hot spots. The R+ are 10k resistors. Hope folks dinna get them mixed up... Hopefully each cap feeds/is a bypass for each one of the 4 big Vdd pads on the chip. Wonder if they also feed the 3 other small ones? More incomplete assembly I'd say. |

My AMT boards are pretty much next to dead. I have 3 working boards. And I will consider myself fortunate if I even get replacements at this point.
eep... Contact BitMine.ch and see if they will exchange or offer any help? Long shot but can't hurt to try. Would really open them to um, other exposure though. For now, hate to say but maybe eco-mode it to 20GH/chip?? |

Yea, Rik... I had that same issue... check that cards chip-mounting... I assume it was lifted on one corner, like mine...

I did notice that this v3.0.A card only has one of the four "COUT" connections, per chip. Two, apparently not on the correct side. (Also note, there are screw-thread markings on the solderpoints where one of them should have been. (Apparently the fan-screws were drilled right into it. Possibly shorting it out? Not from me, I have fans mounted with plastic push-in mounts.) Not sure why the fan screws are that long in the first place. Might be why some fans didn't even have screws mounting them.
Not sure why they don't have all four junctions of the "COUT" filled on this board. Really not sure what damage the fan-screw being drilled across both terminals would have done to the board, but I can't imagine it being good.
Are you referring to the Vcore regulator plane feeds to the A1 chip?? Since the chip has 7 Vdd pads total around its edges that dunna make any sense... |

eep!. Just boards by themselves should have survived quite well even if just 'reasonably' packed in a box with some anti-static bubblewrap around each of them... More FedEx Football Follies? |

If you are referring to AMT's website - it has been frozen for a month or more due to the suits & investigations so it cannot be changed to reflect their current non-sales mode. It is what it is. However, AMT is also NOT accepting new orders. Even Phin proved that. |

Mmm that's still $1,600 for chips alone per-TH (40 chips) with no discounts. They need to be maybe 1/3 cheaper to make the hashing density attractive as the selling point vs the A1's power usage.

Random thoughts on A1 board packaging & cooling. Can anyone give me outside dims on the current blades? I assume thickness is 1/2" (the caps) and a bit more for the pcb. Say total of 5/8". Don't care about any heatsink thicknesses.
Been kicking this around: ya know with liquid cooling done right using cold plates I can see putting 14 or more of the current 8 chip boards in a 4U rack case with a 1U high PSU bank on top...
Thermals not an issue for any component and if can fit more chips on same size board - cool. Should help OC as well until com or other issues arise. Do this with other chips like BFL' CoinTerra or HasFasts new chips and whooo daddy! 10TH or more in a 4U rack...
Hmm. if the A1 chips get cheap enough might play a bit with some help from here...

Query: on the SPI data coms for the A1, how does cgminer route it to the cards? In my Ant s1's they use Arch as the OS with TP-Link and openWRT to handle it. I assume the s2's do similar as well? I know the Ants are very graceful about chips going down with the rest in the chain cruising along just fine.

The big sinks are fine. Wouldn't say that about the small chipsinks... Set the rig so the boards are horizontal and chip side up so they cannot slide/peel off. If they are chip side down, um... Still better than sideways. Yes the thermal epoxies are great but permanent. I would not use that until a better chip-side heat sink solution is used. |

Possibly correct but pretty damn sure that they would at least also be forced to give a vetted canned response to acknowledge us... I have never ever heard of a company essentially being gagged from ALL customer contact during a lawsuit. |

Most excellent! Query: As we know the chipsinks aren't held on the greatest so... If the case is vertical I take it the boards horizontal. Are they at least chip side up so gravity doesn't do its thing trying to slide them off? Would like to also know if the Vcore FET chips are thermally bonded to the heatsinks. That is the one flaw I see with my Ants, they decided not to at all for some reason so the FET's are the hottest thing on the boards @ 82C. The thermal via pads are there, just not linked to the sinks. Gonna fix that. I still think that at these power levels liquid is the way to go. Perhaps little aluminum heat xfr plates made from pieces sawed off of a single side heatsink clamped (squeezed) onto 1/4" copper tube? For the main sinks, see what size tubing can be forced between the fins. Preferably to the root. I use Koolance.com for most of my pump, tank & radiator needs for our lasers. Also have great drip-less quick connect fittings. Luere fittings from McMaster are a bit cheaper but not as pretty... On the thermal retention of the heatsinks, perhaps hack a minute or so of fans running for cool down when the blades are off? Kinda a reverse warm up for vacuum tubes  What is the 12v keep-alive current rating on the psu? Bet it's enough for fans... And assuming you use the ATX jumper to switch power vs the main switch on the psu of course. |

the only thing i am trying to get across is it seems bitmine.ch is the stem of the issue with all subsidiary resellers having the same issues. wether it stems further to bitmines supply or not i do not know. but ALL companys that have any affiliation with similar rigs i.e bitmine rigs, coincraft desks, amt's rigs. all customers receiving rigs damaged, none working, none existent and screaming refund.

Been saying that since I 1st got caught up in this. Pre-order issues aside, as with BFL and Hashfast's trouble it all began with the the chips being so delayed. Only difference is that only Bitmine.ch has/had resale agents. At least BFL and Hasfast only shafted their own customers whereas BM.ch spread it around like plague. Yes here in the states AMT is the Judas goat over the A1 hardware mess and yes the sales practices used are going to have to face the courts. But, in the end Bitmine.ch is the entity that needs to be nailed to the wall. Unfortunately being in the EU that may be a long time coming  Oh and as to why AMT is making the rigs here (including the technobit based ones) instead of importing fully assembled ones? Import fees. Chips and other components have a hugely lower duty than does assembled equipment. |

but you can also file your own small claims court aside from the class action which I am filing tomorrow .
Submitted is not the same as class-action being granted. A judge could for whatever reason say it does not fit the requirement. Odds are it does. For most states there are only a few things that need to be met: Several out-of-state plaintiffs filing the suit, at least X amount of dollars per-plaintiff (for the case against BFL in Kansas it was $10k) and at least 100 other customers determined from company records who would get relief from the lawsuit if ran as a class-action. Pretty sure that those conditions are met here. |

That is entirely possible that it MIGHT put the process to a halt, but if they are functioning as a business then not likely. They still have to build out the hardware. At the very least at their own cost they would have to provide us with working hardware that would satisfy our claims and address our issues. OTOH they could wind up with a settlement that ends with us getting hardware at the dollar amount we paid them for. Lotta different possible solutions here for us. BUT based on the info I got, it seems like its going to go in our favor most likely barring some weird aspect we are not aware of. But with the existing info we should be ok after all this. Just might take some time is all.
The only reason I see that a company should be enjoined from presenting alternative complaint settlements to its aggrieved customers would be if there are already class-action settlement talks going on. If that is the case then first require AMT to make it clear that their proposal is different and may be less than what the class action would result in. After that it is up to us to decide how/if we can hold them to what is proposed. Plaintiffs would probably argue that folks accepting or even considering the offers would be stealing the plaintiffs thunder so to speak. Well tough titties. If we are happy then we are happy. If we say no to the offers then we say no and nothing has changed. When the class action settlement/decision happens maybe we could have gotten more or maybe not either way that is for us to decide. |
