5961  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you a high roller? on: October 02, 2020, 04:18:25 PM
I used to bet thousands on dice, and even that amount wouldn’t get me anywhere near being a high roller. I have learned that my ways have its flaws and I have since changed my betting habits to ensure that I do not go broke. It’s actually quite thrilling to bet pennies on a game while you only have a very strict bank roll. For those who gamble to seek entertainment, waging small and huge amounts make no difference at all as it both brings the same thrill in the end, or I guess this is just me after years of playing online.
5962  Economy / Speculation / Re: On Trump COVID Announcement: Bitcoin vs Gold vs The US Stock Market(US500) on: October 02, 2020, 12:19:40 PM
For the stock markets it might seem to be a huge event, but for bitcoin it is not. The change is single digit percentage for bitcoin that has been negligible for years now, and we know that wilder and more erratic declines and spikes have been recorded than this. For sure most bitcoiners don’t really care about the drama of the events on the US, and only those who are directly affected by this which obviously are the Americans. But yeah, it is too small of a change to be worried about IMO.

And for the presidential aide whom the Trumps came in close contact with, you did the USA a whole favor for Trump to acknowledge the disease finally.
5963  Economy / Economics / Re: USA Economic and power status will go lower new Country will take over on: October 02, 2020, 11:35:54 AM
The reasons you have stated to put France as an economic world power is pretty short. It isn't enough that a country has the largest gold reserves or is a friend of every nation. The framework that the US installed all over the world making their currency universally accepted is so massive that even China and co. cannot match in the next decades or so. France cannot match that, and would need tons of resources and other methods to make sure that they get widely accepted on all parts of the world.

You can say that France has been a great country for the past few years, though still not sufficient to overthrow USA on the top of the list.
5964  Local / Pamilihan / Re: GCash, PayMaya, and banks to bring beck Pesonet and Instapay fees on: October 02, 2020, 11:01:33 AM
If this was implemented before the pandemic, malamang ay hindi gaanong tututulan ito, pero ayun nga, mautak lang talaga sila. Can't blame them though, they also have to make some money on the side pero I think 10 and 15 pesos per transaction is too much. Dinaig pa mga ATM sa sobrang laki ng kaltas.
5965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trump gets Covid and we Crash? on: October 02, 2020, 07:56:18 AM
Yeah both of them have been reported to have acquired the virus. For Ivanka, she can certainly get through this without much complications considering that she's asymptomatic, and is still fairly young to have a robust immune system. For Trump however, I have doubts once he gets it. He's old, possibly a lot of ailments and would not survive advanced stages of the virus. Or this is just a ploy to skip the next debate so that the US will not see yet another shitshow coming from Trump. For the correlation of this event to bitcoin, I see none, really, since politics is a completely different realm from cryptocurrencies. No sharp price movements have happened yet and no other news are happening on the side of the stocks either.
5966  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling License on: October 01, 2020, 08:19:50 PM
2. It isn't enough to for a platform to host a provably-fair game. It has to have some solid backing on it, like an established community, for me to consider playing in their turf. There are some platforms who offered provably-fair games for the first few months, then after people got comfortable, they just rigged the system and disappeared. I forgot the name of that casino but they were red tagged to hell for doing that stunt.

3. I usually avoid 'new' casinos unless some other trusted members here vouched for them, or have played and gave their honest review. Then again, due to that particular casino that I was talking about, I never really tried new casinos anymore starting 2019.
5967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: For the record, the last time we had a presidential debate, the price of bitcoin on: October 01, 2020, 03:48:35 PM
And back then we discounted the thought that bitcoin is never going to be crossing that $1k mark again, but my oh my how gullible are most people during those days. For the record, I was steadily buying bitcoin while I'm on a minimum wage day job taking up my masters by that time. It paid well on 2017 and I managed to get off from the ground and started making other investment moves and have also enrolled on a doctorate program. 4 years later, I still can't believe how Trump managed to win against Hillary with that lackluster debate performance, only throwing insults and snarky remarks toward each other and we are still seeing the orange man doing the same--or even worse--thing. Well the good thing is bitcoin surpassed everyone's expectations and downplays, and is continuing to do so even today.

The price of Bitcoin is of course more expensive today than during the last US elections because that happened four years ago. But the increase of the price does not have anything to do with the presidential debate. There is no connection between the two at all.

No one is stating that the presidential debate caused these events. OP is simply pointing out the difference in price in 4 years during a presidential debate. And on the pattern, well that's up for debate. 2021 is the expected year for bitcoin to pump so hard if we are to believe the 4-year cycle, so who knows really?
5968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Favorite gamemodes on: October 01, 2020, 03:11:16 PM
I tried roulette on several platforms and I haven't really found the joy in playing it. Dice, however, I know I can play for hours upon hours since I know I can tweak some settings to prolong my session depending on how much budget I have. I know it's a very basic game but it's one of those games that got me hooked into gambling regularly and taught me how to manage my bankroll intelligently, though I never really won much in dice.

Right now I'm looking at online poker and blackjack to see whether I can get the hang of it. It looks too complex to me so right now I'm just staring from the sidelines and I'm watching videos instead on how to play it.
5969  Economy / Speculation / Re: US economy won’t be charging upwards like we had hoped for on: October 01, 2020, 01:29:03 PM
Trump and his admin would surely eye on a stimulus package before the elections to gain some vote on their side. It's not only the stimulus package that needs to be done in order to turn the economy a little bit on the upside as there are far more problems that stemmed from the lackluster performance of the US economy due to COVID-19. It's one way to do it, but the market will tank down anyways as soon as the package is already exhausted by the citizens.

In the age of "money printer go brrrrr" is any of this a real problem? It wasn't when the Fed and Congress rescued the market in March.

I'm saying this sort of tongue in cheek, but it's also reality now. Roll Eyes

Yup. They'd just make those printers work 24/7 in order to 'save' the ailing economy. What could go wrong? Cheesy
5970  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Quantum resistance on: October 01, 2020, 11:17:31 AM
These machines aren't made to be as flexible as you think it can be. They are not general purpose, and are only intended for very specific calculations and that's it. This cannot be reconfigured into something that can break SHA-256, or try to play with the algorithms and cryptography embedded within bitcoin. We're years or even decades away from a working quantum computer that can try and take the bitcoin cracking challenge, though those operating it may find the effort futile since a fork can just occur and there goes your millions down the drain.
5971  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: French police arrest terror financing ring that used Bitcoin coupons on: September 30, 2020, 07:50:20 PM
It’s funny that terrorists and fraudsters choose bitcoin as a currency to save their asses only to be nabbed and jailed afterwards. ‘Hiding in plain sight’ or using fiat to launder money and circulate it on all fronts have always been the best way to do it, and law enforcement won’t suspect a thing as long as the transfers and the networks are smoothly planned.

They do not learn. Bitcoin is never a safe currency when you’re doing something this big and bad due to its openness to the public. They might have met a few successes on what they do, but after some time they’ll get caught, and look at where they are right now. Good thing those outlets noticed something strange.
5972  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe NBA is rigged? on: September 30, 2020, 05:17:27 PM
There are questionable plays and some questionable flops during some crucial situations on some games but I don't think that alone is enough reason to say that NBA games are rigged, or are fixed for the benefit of those huge bettors inside the game. If it is then I'd say that the match which are fixed are very subtle that millions of fans couldn't notice it. There are some conspiracies to it though I'd like to believe that those things that they are pointing at are mere happenstances and not really intentional.

It's hard to rig the NBA. It's a huge scandal and will surely lose a lot of sponsorship and money on the game.
5973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Good Morning from a Non-Bitcoiner on: September 30, 2020, 01:50:44 PM
I'm pretty sure your friend has already made some research of his own before sending you this picture.

Most of the time people are already arousing their curiosity when they see things such as this pop up on their feeds or whenever they see such. It's innate in humans to be curious in something they don't know while the rest of the population does. Good thing that your friend knows how to be curious enough to send you a picture like that, though it will be better if he goes even deeper and thoroughly to get a footing of what's really in store for him should he really decide to invest his money on bitcoin. Nevertheless, a good start on recognizing bitcoin and its potential, and what makes it different from other investment opportunities out there.
5974  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Ang UnionBank at si Mr. Ron Hose ng Coins.ph on: September 30, 2020, 10:07:39 AM
Unionbank really is stepping up their game pagdating sa cryptocurrencies at involvement nila rito. They even have a former CEO of one of the first legitimate bitcoin exchange dito sa Pinas. I'm pretty sure wala na namang conflict of interest na mangyayari, and I think that Ron Hose is going to be an asset at Unionbank. Had the privilege to speak with him on 2015 nung tinungo ko ang main office nila for some questions regarding my account and some of the transactions I have nung hindi pa ganun ka-solid yung customer support nila. He knows what he's doing at dedicated talaga siyang mailapit ang cryptopayments at cryptocurrency in general sa ating bansa. Just hope na with him on Unionbank, mas maraming crypto-driven programs ang masisimulan dito sa Pilipinas na hopefully e mag-catch up.
5975  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: September 29, 2020, 06:17:02 PM
I just checked the F1 standings and Albon is still at #5. I didn't expect to see him that high if you see his results. He got exactly half of Verstappen's points which is why to less but overall he isn't doing that bad overall.

Albon has been doing a pretty good drive on the last season and this season as well. He might not have podium finishes and other come-from-behind wins but he's consistent, and I think that's enough to have him a seat on Red Bull for much longer, unless of course he flops midway through the season and a series of bad beats occur when he's on the seat then we might see Gasly switching in. To be fair, I like how Albon drives compared to Gasly since the former is a much more calmer and calculated dude who only takes risks when it benefits him much. We've seen Gasly fuck up some good races simply by just being too aggressive and so far I do not see Albon doing that yet (given that the Thai racer does not have that much races yet).
5976  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where do you store your seed? on: September 29, 2020, 04:15:57 PM
I just store them on a piece of paper and making it look like it's just a couple of recipes from a cook book, a receipt from whatever I bought on a book store, and a to-do list that I'll never be able to complete due to the obscurity of the words listed in there. I have stored them as a Python file too on a flash drive and a device that I'm no longer using or connecting to the internet should I lose all these pieces of paper due to my carelessness or whatever reasons. I'm pretty much a non-techie guy so I don't dive into technical details for the most part, so I stick to basics and something that I know and I can manipulate very easily.
5977  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin centralization and governmet control on: September 29, 2020, 01:03:56 PM
I want to discuss the vision of bitcoin future. One of the main idea of Bitcoin was decentralization, but now we can see that all hashrate is concentrated in pools, which works under some jurisdiction, pay taxes, burn electricity - they are legal. As far as bitcoin becomes more and more legal in different countries the governments will be going to control it.

The good thing is that at the first hint of control and strangulation from local governments, mining operators are already starting to look for areas/countries wherein this problem is non-existent. Just look at mining operators from China and Russia for example. Some have moved to other parts of Europe and some have decreased their gears on the said countries and moved the bulk of their equipment elsewhere. Like you and me, most miners do not want to be dictated on what to do and how much do they want to give the government for taxes. They simply move and settle elsewhere.

Lets imagine that pools have some blacklist of addresses for which they do not process transactions. This list can be presented from some international bitcoin control organization (it's just imagination for now!) that, for example, fights with financing of terrorism. As pools are legal organizations they will have to do what they were said.
Worse scenario is that pools will be able to proceed only whitelists of addresses and legal lightning channels.
As pools control almost all hashrate there will not be any real chance to find block outside the pool.
I think bitcoin is potentially very colt controlled thing. What do you think about it ?

People can easily circumvent this by creating new addresses. That simple. Also, given the whole address space of bitcoin is 2^160, that's literally inexhaustible and no amount of law enforcement can ever comprehend just how many that number is really in the real world. While measures would surely be put into place to combat money laundering and fraud in the space, I think it would not extend more than that since it's practically impossible to contain bitcoin and its working parts individually or as a whole. Bitcoin is, by design, fragmented and decentralized so as to avoid being manipulated and controlled by a central entity, and I think it has the capabilities to live true of its design.
5978  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports Betting vs Real "Sports Feelings" on: September 29, 2020, 02:08:24 AM
I feel you. Some people are seeing sports betting as a job or as an investment rather than something to be enjoyed. I know a few people who are not really die-hard fans of the game but shell out huge amounts of money when the odds are good for a hyped match. They enjoy the aspect of 'winning' the bet, but not the sport itself since that's what they only wanted after all and I think that is okay. Not everyone has the same taste and preference when it comes to sports and entertainment,

As for the favorites, I sometimes feel conflicted whenever my favorites are against a much better opponent in terms of stats and recent performance. Betting against my favorite team does not mean 'betrayal' in any way, or something that should deeply be concerned about--at least for me. I still bet on enemy teams if the chances of winning and the returns are quite good. I can still support my teams in some other ways, so I guess it's not really that bad if I choose another team to take my bet on.
5979  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: US 2020 Elections data, polls and bets on: September 28, 2020, 01:21:12 PM
Biden's social media campaign seem to sway most of the Republicans in favor of the former VP, though IMO those sentiments expressed via Twitter and Facebook isn't really enough to gauge the actual happenings on the actual voting situations. All I know is, whoever wins on this election, there'll never be a smooth transition of power, and the loser will surely contest the result and would ask for recounts, and if that didn't happen, I'm pretty sure more riots and more chaos will occur within the US.

Anyways, most of the attention right now is focused on Trump's taxes and his 'alleged' abuse of legal loopholes to gain more instead of paying the Federal government his share of the pie. This is really big of an argument and we'll see how this plays out on the upcoming debate on the 29th.
5980  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia is proposing a new law to declare cryptowallets or be fined, go to jail on: September 26, 2020, 01:01:37 PM
Russia is always proposing bills and laws like this and labeling it as something that could benefit the cryptospace, although in reality this is hurting crypto more in the region rather than helping it. They are clearly wanting to know which people hold how much for surveillance, and this has nothing to do with them trying to regulate the space since regulation can be done with or without those that they are asking on their citizens.

A lot of entities dealing with cryptocurrencies would surely go away from Russia and take their business elsewhere.
