Has anyone here forged any coins yet (besides the developers)?

do you, or anyone else, have the address to where forged coins are going?

I'm assuming they're going to the block generator but are not included in the transaction details of the block as they're not really a transaction.. If you open the client (web or desktop) you can see recent blocks, you can see who generated them, and you can see the fee. You CANNOT presently see anyone else's balance so far as I am aware, but I'll venture a guess and say that an account's balance = transactions + fees from blocks generated. If you want to see what addresses are generating blocks, just open the web client with a random password and click 'Blocks'... You have looked at the client, right?

Also worth noting - there are a number of accounts generating blocks, far more than there are devs on this project. That seems to imply that the present client is capable of generating blocks (or that a subset of users have access to a pilot client). Guessing that by having the your account open on the client, you're able to generate blocks based on some yet-to-be-released algo.

Why can't you give a simple explanation?  Why is it such a big secret?

Please provide basic information on how forging works with Node.  Is it based on account balance?  Coin age?  Node up-time?

Quote
Forging This feature is a core element of Node, it makes the difference, as we will implement the Proof of Activity (PoA) mechanism which differs from Proof os Stake (PoS - Implemented in Nxt and Nxt-a-like projects) & Proof of Work (PoW - In Bitcoin and Bitcoin-a-like projects).

This is interesting (and in case you're wondering, it was pulled from http://blog.nodecoin.com/) - I know they changed the forging algo in v0.4 so I'm guessing they're still refining it, which may be why you're not getting concise answers. It's probably something of a moving target within the framework of PoA (and possibly other factors).. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was somewhat subject to change.  That said, the initial post on this thread indicates that it's PoS, so perhaps it's a hybrid, and if so, I'd say that's liable to be a sweetspot: activity + stake drives one's chance of block generation. Again, I point to the bright idea of NOT generating blocks when there's nothing to encode. The premise of a blockchain is to provide a sort of public ledger.. Why keep empty blocks in a ledger? I'm personally giving these guys the benefit of the doubt on forging given their clean implementation of the blockchain.

Hey everyone. I was working on an infographic for NEM this morning and thought I'd post it here for everyone to scrutinize. (Already posted on the NEM forums but possibly a different group of readers here who might want to see as well.)

Let me know what you all think. Still definitely a work in progress, just spent a few minutes on it this morning so feel free to suggest any changes or additions (or things to remove).

I'll just leave it as a link because it's quite large and I don't want to clutter up the forum with a giant image.

Definitely like this!  Cheesy

How do you mine this?  Can someone give me a url or something please?

POS (not you, the coin!)

the coin has been on the market for 2 days. can people stop discussing price now? i don't understand why people expected it to open at 1k satoshis. it just wasn't going to happen. sell your coins if you're concerned with the price, because it might take time before node catches traction. there are still some pretty basic issues with the wallet and the lack of a white paper doesn't help. be patient or sell

BTW - visual111 - take note of your own sage wisdom [from yesterday none the less!] Smiley

People should be shamed to try to make a benefit from this situation by speading FUD and lies!

100% support to devs. But yes, answer the questions about forging rewards and release the whitepaper soon.

Thank you for understanding
The fact that we describe all of the integration process BTC, USD, EUR.

Node, Forging, NodeBank, NodePay

it is a lot of information

Definite fudsters in here.. Some probably sold as soon as they saw the news and now trying to buy back more for cheap. That point aside, it is a concerning situation but it will also blow over (think NEM and UtopianFuture? Way bigger deal, largely irrelevant now).

One thing I think is BRILLIANT is this: Blocks are only generated when there is relevant information that merits encoding in a block! So stupidly simple that it seems to have been forgotten in the move to POS (at least, until NODE). Why bloat your block chain with empty blocks? God knows how many useless blocks are in the Bitcoin blockchain, and it's block time is 10 minutes!!! I really hope that a similar degree of vision was applied to the rest of NODE. Let's keep in mind that this, like NEM, was explicitly intended to build on NXT's foundation (which rebuilt a lot of Bitcoin's foundation) but with the added premise of greater fairness. Even if the POS system is identical to NXT's, I don't see that this is really a problem. Either way, it's not worth much discussion until we know more. Have patience, and if you do not, stop following things so closely and choose to sell or hold.

a developer fell for a phishing link

whitepaper continues to be delayed

Seems a fair few NEM stakeholders also fell for it.. he's certainly not the only one. Believable mockup of the site, though silly to login again without questioning it..
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Crowdsale has begun[Updates & Discussion] on: September 15, 2014, 03:07:45 PM
Somebody hacked the profile of SillkRoad and sent me this phishing-mail.

How could it be?

As far as I understand, he is one of the devs of NODE.

That shows us nobody is really safe at the moment.

I reported this phishing attack to the admin.

Remove that link, silly!

1. Stay Calm and Carry On. Keep up the good work Koop & Skill!
2. Let's keep in mind that Skill isn't a native English speaker, so is less likely to catch predatory scammer nuances... Still, sucks that this happened and he definitely needs to be more careful.
3. Is Skill a NEM Stakeholder? Probably! And why not? This is the cryptoecosphere. Pretty much anyone into alts is into more than one, just like anyone into investing is into more than one stock. Doesn't mean a thing. The key person working on a new coin SHOULD have a good understanding of the altcoin environment, the follies and success, and everything that's happened over the past year in this largely experimental element of cryptocurrency. This involves riding the waves. If you look over his first account's activity history you'll see he participated in a number of crypto-communities. I think this is a good thing.

Just my 2 satoshis.

This account got a massive dump of coin (17 million): 14367295516694207452 -- it then distributed this to 5 other accounts initially in stake payouts then in amounts that don't equate to stakes (i.e. 1 million, 2.5 million etc)... 4 million made it to 3703022566724518417, which then sold it on BTER from the looks of it (seems all BTER transactions go through 6458978651863323362?). That 4m was never broken up into stake amounts, so i'd assume some non-stakeholder (dev?) sold 4M on BTER..?

Your data is solid, but your conclusions are all wrong. How is that you have the patence to look for data in a pain in the ass blockchain explorer, but don't check the distribution spreadsheet? Smiley
1436... is my account, I bought all coins at the auction. I sold full stakes earlier on the forum, and some other amounts later. I sent some (3.5M?) to bter, and sold around 1.8 million. (I'm done selling now, until prices much higher.)

Someone else (there are a few bigger stakeholders who can do it) probably sent much more to bter (someone put up a 8M sell order not long ago, and if they didn't buy it on bter, there is only a few people who has that much coin) but I'm too lazy to find out who.

You caught me there - didn't take much digging in the blockchain, just followed a couple trails and that one was coincidentally suspicious - thanks for clearing it up - will check against stakeholder sheet next time I start digging around in the ol' chain-o-block  Cheesy

30 shares btw - hefty :p

Sillkroad or koop4u you should submit an application to coinmarketcap (and actually provide the information that they require.)
i sent a google request with all infos man : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IZf5cBivam_93zENT_arFFuvWDidHGjWxoTMVmFSoWg/viewform

I saw your post, but you did not provide everything they need.

I know there is a block explorer up, I just don't know the URL and couldn't see it in the OP (I might have looked past it.)
maybe this banner in OP can explain you a lot ...

Nah it doesn't. You need to supply a link with the total coin supply. I am sure you could pull it out of the block explorer via a specific URL, but as to what that is I do not know.

Did some looking through the blockchain and I see the explorer caps at 100 transactions...

All distribution I've seen points back to 15007997926042700000 - maybe the 'genesis' account?

This account got a massive dump of coin (17 million): 14367295516694207452 -- it then distributed this to 5 other accounts initially in stake payouts then in amounts that don't equate to stakes (i.e. 1 million, 2.5 million etc)... 4 million made it to 3703022566724518417, which then sold it on BTER from the looks of it (seems all BTER transactions go through 6458978651863323362?). That 4m was never broken up into stake amounts, so i'd assume some non-stakeholder (dev?) sold 4M on BTER..? I do recall the devs saying that they needed to do another wave of stake sales for food and rent some months ago.. makes ya wonder how much they'll dump.

wish we had a better block explorer.. This one doesn't include block number nor transaction date/time, and you can only search on account #.. Can we extract block data from the client? (still waiting for mine to catch up.. downloaded 500 blocks in ~2 hours, another 1000 to go..)

Found a problem with the client, I am using 0.9 and having trouble staying up to date in my client so I deleted the db folder, when I restarted the client it would start for s sec then shutdown (other people have reported this also). I restored the deleted db folder and I am currently verifying blocks.

Client doesnt synchronize automatically and i think devs should resolve that.

Is it just me, or does every launch seem to take like an hour, even when blocks are pretty much up to date?
I'm also a bit confused on how the client can validate blocks without a network connection..?

I'd also REALLY like to see an SSL certificate on the web wallet... Not a fan of having a beta client only that takes forever to load and crashes for a bunch of people, leaving an unsecured web client as the main option for some users..

My 2 cents on the notion of giving stakes to celebs / crypto leaders:

DO IT! Please do what you can to broaden and deepen the community..

The question is: WHO should do it? Should the developers arbitrarily give out stakes based on poorly responded polls open to all of BTT or Nem forms? no.

Start a fund. Collect donations. Band together and tackle ventures like this as a community. Get people to toss in spare NXT and buy up as much NEMStake as you can. Let the donors decide who gets the stakes. That's how it should be done.

I'd be happy with 3 :p

Harvested 7 blocks in 48 hours with only 280 000 testnems  Cool

Block generation is insane - wonder if it was put into overdrive to generate more data for the alpha.

Definitely glad we're taking our time with this to get it right.. Prefer this to the NODE approach of 'get it out even though it isn't nearly ready'. The NEM alpha is more stable than anything that's been released for NODE and NODE is supposedly live..=/

Wow.. Gotta say - that client is S-L-I-C-K.. I'm a stakeholder for NEM and NODE, and from what I've seen, the NEM client is definitely nicer to use.. Though this whole NIS / NCC is a bit maddening- couldn't get the one-step installer to work as there was no installation of NCC so far as I can tell.. Otherwise, love it.

Can't wait to watch this grow!

Any chance someone could send me some testnet NEM?

See sig

Cheers

Probably because there are so few clients to generate blocks. only devs on the network right now I believe.

I'm not sure that there is a working client right now. v4 apparently only worked for 2 days to test some major changes. the only way to transact is through the central Web accessible  client, don't have the ip on hand but probably in the op.. on mobile.
