61  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the fair value of a currency? on: July 29, 2017, 09:53:02 PM
Here you have the BTC/USD fair value and price. Beware that, as I said, I made a simplification in the USD intrinsic variable M: the total USD supply remains remains constant in the future. I have to modify my Python SW in order to extrapolate current USD supply function and use the TDSTM properly.

As you can see, fair value is dropping and it is the underlying cause for the current market price stagnation.

Thank you @pablomp great analysis, very helpful.

Interesting position statement on BCC from Paymium. I read it as "if BCCs are worth anything after a few weeks we'll put some work into enabling you to send them to a private wallet"

Quote
A Bitcoin fork, BCC (or Bitcoin Cash), is likely to launch on August 1st 2017.

If you do not intend to trade with this new BCC altcoin immediately after the launch, you have nothing to do: we have taken and will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of your funds in Bitcoins.

For this reason, we will pause the processing of Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals from July 31st at 23:00 (GMT +1).

Your funds in BTC will be safe but locked on our platform while we monitor the fork process: we will reactivate deposits and withdrawals as soon as we are certain that these transactions will not be disrupted by the fork.

If you intend to trade with Bitcoin Cash immediately after the August 1st launch, you should withdraw your bitcoins before July 31st, 2017 at 23:00 GMT +1.

We do not intend to list this new BCC altcoin on our platform neither in our wallet nor in our marketplace.

However, should the BCC coins gain value in the weeks following the fork, we would arrange for you to withdraw your BCC coins to a BCC wallet.

64  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC rally is premature - 4 days left on: July 29, 2017, 12:23:32 AM
I think people are buying BTC in prep for the BCC airdrop too early.
With four days left, it is unlikely that we will get four big green days, especially considering how close we are to ATH.
This rally is premature, whales, shorters and smart money will realize that in the crypto world 4 days can cause a huge ripple and that there is plenty of time to enter for the free BCC (which will be worthless by then, but that's a different topic).
I expect a drop some time back to 2500 before Aug 1st for sure. You are actually far more likely to make money buying ETH, than you are trying to capitalize on the free (and worthless) coins.
This is NOT the same as ETH/ETC. BCC is basically an alt by a third party.

Hi your title has been bugging me all day  Tongue and I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.

Are you saying the market is wrong?

I understand many of you came into Bitcoin only for quick money or some magical ideas. I totally understand many of you, like Maxwell and Theymos, had your own idea and never believed any words Satoshi said.

I also understand many of you have no clue about Bitcoin, and what formed your opinion was coming from the censored sub.

Update: I hope @Theymos can tell me his opinion. In my opinion, Satoshi was great enough that he wouldn't leave this forum --- such important resource --- to a person who would betray his vision later without any resonable explanation. Although I see Theymos as Bitcoin Judas, but at least please tell me why he changed his mind. Or he saw Satoshi's vision as shit from the beginning?

It's very clear in Satoshi's vision: 1st layer for the internet of money, 2nd layer for other complicated application such as smart contract.

Few people have vision, Most people are followers.

Some followers may have great technical skills and create wonders under the leadership of a visionary but then turn it all to shit when the visionary leaves and is not around to give them directions.

It happens all the time

Trezor is going to provide a coin splitter. If you have a Trezor (like I do) then that means you can send BCC to an exchange without risking or touching your BTC.

There are a number of exchanges listed in this thread. Also here's an emerging list:

https://www.bestbitcoinexchange.io/segwit-bitcoincash-hardfork/

Any on the list not require sending ID's/KYC etc ?

I just registered with HitBTC, just one email confirmation, very quick
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What changed about the fork? on: July 28, 2017, 06:52:45 PM
Last new I had, a fork was unlikely to happen. Now I read there will be a fork for sure.

What changed?

Two different forks.

The first was a UASF fork supported by some Core developers throwing a bit of a tantrum over Segwit. That was predictably worrying considering we rely on these people behaving like impartial mature individuals in the service of the community. Luckily that fork is not happening thanks to BP91

The current fork is a hard fork supported by a minority miner, ViaBTC, in support of larger block sizes and is only a publicity stunt in my opinion. It is likely to be of very little importance for now.
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Traders: Would you have made more money if you just bought and held? on: July 28, 2017, 05:34:47 PM
So people on here are constantly talking about trading altcoins, bitcoins, and cash. Buying and selling. Selling and buying. Are you guys actually making more money than if you just bought some bitcoin and held?

Be honest.

Do you guys not pay short term capital gains tax?

It's nearly impossible to beat buy and hold in a bull market. Having said that hivol coins will do better than lowvol coins in a bull market too so I guess many ppl move in and out of alts and back to btc and make some extra money that way.

BBT Carter discuss Bitcoin Hardfork basic mechanics and scenarios related to BTCC and why the probability of it will fail initially hard.

*Effectively a 16.4m instamine scenario
*Previous Airdrop on mass audience coins (auracoin) did not do so well
*Nobody (community) really asked for this, being forced
*Prescriptive answers in few interviews by folks representing BTCC and elusive when asked who else wants/backs it (sounds a lot like other failed entities)
*Predicated very much on speculation and hoping people are grateful for a quick 'gift' of value

That sounds about right
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which altcoin has the most real life usage? on: July 28, 2017, 02:49:13 PM
Which coin can be used for real day-to-day payment these days?

So from what I read in this thread the answer to your question is none for now (I assume you asked about altcoins only, not btc)

72  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bittrex will support BCC - All BTC holders will get BCC on: July 28, 2017, 01:20:18 PM
Why shouldn't they support BCC? BCC will be the hottest alt coin for a while and the trade volume is guaranteed to be considerable so this just means more money for Bittrex in the form of fees.

Yes, volumes is what matters and the fees they get from it, not so much the price. Easy money for any exchange that trades it.

What is puzzling is that some exchange would want to miss out on this opportunity. What could possibly motivate them to lose all this money?  Roll Eyes

74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Howard Marks Calls Bitcoin "A Pyramid Scheme" on: July 28, 2017, 02:17:07 AM

'Pyramid scheme' here is a figure of speech. And he does have a valid point.

Until bitcoin becomes a currency used for transactions (for all intents and purposes it is not yet one) its value depends on the influx of new speculative money. Hence the reference to a pyramid scheme.

No to be taken literally.

 Cheesy  Cheesy   Cheesy

Capitalism in general depends on new money, wether by expanding markets, or opening new markets. Industries that don't get new money, die.

True but here I'm talking about speculative money. Money that looks for speculative capital gains, not returns from productive activities.

If you read the threads in this forum nearly everyone is focused on the PRICE of bitcoin, past current and future, not it's actual value proposition. The speculative mindset is near 100% predominant with bitcoin.

Valid point, and the article makes valid points as well... hell the most valid point, would you rather own Every single bitcoin right now, own 100% stake in Goldman-Sachs, or own 100% stake in PayPal... seriously, every owner of a crypto should ask themselves that question.

If people say Bitcoin, they are definitely a true believer.... I am not... I'm a believer, but the f**k if I'm going to drink the Kool-Aide. 😋

Hahaha erm... I'll wait to see what happens with bitcoin's governance before I answer that question  Tongue

even if it was (and its not) its >>> than the pyramid scheme than FIAT, as you can just keep printing FIAT.

Grin It hurts me to say it but fiat has a value. If you don't get hold of some to at least pay your taxes you'll end up in court :/
I agree FIAT has value as it can bring capital and labour together to produce.

However that value has become delinked to face value, as the banksters have a monopoly, and perhaps a natural monopoly due to the need for regulation is system so open to abuse.

This has however lead to the situation where the money printing has happened without bound, thus evaporate you buying power, and increasing their share.

BTC now offers a massive alternative.

I agree. So much promise  Tongue

80  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: so when does the blockchain spam start up again? on: July 27, 2017, 05:37:08 PM
we'll never know where the previous spamming came from, it could've been people pushing segwit or bigger blocks.

it's gonna be rather easier the next time around with 2x, or its rejection looming with the added addition of a new chain to drive people to to 'save' from these high fees.

do you think we're gonna see an absolute spam apocalypse from bitmain and buddies as november approaches and look shaky or will bitcoin cash be dead meat by then whatever?

Ask Bitstamp. Someone here showed me an account from which high frequency transactions were generated and the location was Luxemburg. That's where Bitstamp is located.

Having said that the problems were timed perfectly with a large increase in bitcoin adoption back in May June. No need to look much further than that imo.
