61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / SGMiner-NH Not Detecting AMD GPU on: December 29, 2017, 05:31:07 PM
Hey guys, I am knocking my head to the wall and been search around for a day!

I get this:
Code:
\sgminer.exe -n
[01:20:34] CL Platform vendor: Intel(R) Corporation
[01:20:34] CL Platform name: Intel(R) OpenCL
[01:20:34] CL Platform version: OpenCL 2.0
[01:20:34] Error -1: Getting Device IDs (num)
[01:20:34] clDevicesNum returned error, no GPUs usable
[01:20:34] 0 GPU devices max detected

This happening using both sgminer-5.5.5-gm-nicehash & sgminer-5.6.1-gm-nicehash. All other miners (Claymores, Excavator, etc) are working fine on this rig.

Driver: Latest AMD Blockchain driver
GPU: RX580 8GB
OS: Win 10
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining the most profitable coin vs. Less profitable coin on: December 29, 2017, 09:45:45 AM
Hi, can anyone help explain how mining a less profitable coin is a good idea?

For example, say Ethereum is #1 most profitable.

Say Ubiq is #5 most profitable.

Some people will still prefer to mine Ubiq, even if it's #5.  Why is that?  Isn't it smarter to just mine Ethereum since it's most profitable, and then use the earnings to buy Ubiq?  You will get more Ubiq per day wouldn't you?

This is a million dollar question and nobody can answer you with 100% certainty. If you go through this forum you'll find out that so many people asked the similar questions (same context) hoping someone can guide them or provide the "Best" answer!

It's all up to your research, opinion, analysis, believe, speculation towards a coin. Some take the easy way and mine the most profitable, some other do research to discover the full potential of a less profitable coin to profit in future. Each strategy has its pros and cons. Who can guarantee the current most profitable coin will retain or increase in value? And who can give you assurance that "this" less profitable coin will skyrocket?

To me, it seems the math proves the point though.

If you mine the #1 coin and make $100 in a day > Mine #5 alternative coin and make $80 in a day

If you take the $100 you made, you can buy more of the $80 coin, you are better off, right?

I may be wrong though but it seems pretty clear.

Theoretically yes. If you are referring to whattomine.com profit calculation based on Current Profitability + Current Difficulty , you need to consider a possible scenario that everybody else would think the same and jump in to mine that, by the time you mined enough of that coin, you'd try exchange with your favourite coin, right? are you sure the value is the same as when you started mining it?

Seems like there are more algos which NV 10 series can perform better than AMD 500 series . You'll have more options to mine.

65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: is there a consistent relationship between mining difficulty and coin price? on: December 29, 2017, 03:02:07 AM
I've only been mining for a few weeks and I've already learned to avoid mining whatever is the most profitable coin on whattomine; it doesn't take long for the difficulty to catch up with the profitability.

I agree. I am also adopting a long run strategy. Mine and hodl the coin I believe in with good future potential. Profit switching is just not working as most miners are expecting. It's profitable for 12 hrs, once you switch and mine to accumulate decent amount to take to exchange, baaam it goes down.
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Solutions to Remote Access Miner on: December 27, 2017, 07:50:33 AM
Hello,

I'm looking into solutions to remote access my rig which includes a remote access client, Wake-on-lan and also Smart Plug.

#1) Is it better to use TeamViewer vs Chrome Remote Desktop? From my understanding, Chrome remote desktop seems to be more secured whereas TeamViewer seems to be more robust interms of features.

#2) I would like to use TeamViewer but I'm unsure if I should use "TeamViewer for Windows" (the ordinary version) or "TeamViewer Host".
I suppose I should install the Host version on my rig since I would need to access it anytime. Whereas on my remote device I need to install TeamViewer for Windows as it's client.

#3) I looked up a few tutorials on wake-on-lan and smart plug, it seems they are configured to work on local area network. Can I have them setup to work over the Internet? Is it something to do with Dynamic DNS which I can set-up on my router and then input the DDNS address on my wake-on-lan app as well as smart plug app?

Thank You
Another option for remote desktop can be VNC (Safer). Look it out.

You'll need a service like Dynamic DNS (I am using https://www.duckdns.org) to access your remote monitoring/control if you go for VNC. But if you decided to use TeamViewer, you won't need to setup DynDNS. Most of Smart Plugs can be accessible from the internet depending on the brand/feature/your router. I believe having UPnP capable router is a must have requirement.

After download, the antivirus show file has virus....
We need some security experts with good level of trust to dig in and verify this otherwise the developers could always come back and say "hey it is safe, the antivirus is paranoid"

dude! look at top section of the report! it clearly says .bat with size of 615B ! Read the report details
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Server (7U) style miner case for 10-12 GPUs on: December 26, 2017, 01:56:11 PM
Go 4U, you can fit 8gpu easily in a 4U. so 8u will give you 16gpus.

You could always cheat one rig with a 16 PCI board and long usb 3 cable, but that's asking for trouble.

Any experience with heat/airflow management?
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner: new optimized Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Windows) on: December 26, 2017, 01:50:02 PM

Does anybody here have experience with these server style (closed case) casing to accommodate 10-12 GPUs? most of them all you to install 10 fans (5 intakes + 5 exhausts). Can't find any good/honest review on youtube or here!

Something like this: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/customized-7-5U-12gpu-bitcoin-miner_60683004952.html

Great that there developers out there trying to build a competition to profit both developers and users. In my personal opinion, having a roughly 1% higher hash rate (which you are not sure nor promote strongly) and offering 0.3% lower rate won't attract many users.
Claymore has gained so much popularity and credit which won't let the users bother trying a new miner program, unless it is way faster, better, feature-rich.

There are so many obstacles for your miner program to enter the competition, like trust, benefit, speed, stability, feature, and ...
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hive OS - new Linux GPU mining platform on: December 25, 2017, 08:52:24 AM
you can save a lot of $$$ just running any ubuntu machine, without paying crazy monthly fees. and everything thats in hive you can setup by yourself (all docs are online)
At first it's not "a lot of $$$".
Yes, everybody can do that if you are good linux admin and web developer and have months of free time and will to do this)
Hive is not just ubuntu which is sure for free, even you can take my distro and use some scripts from it, it's open. But it's a service in the first place. I have quite a lot of customers which were trying to do their own stats with Zabbix, custom made web scripts, etc. Now they are Hive clients) And every time you will want to add some feature to your own setup you will spend time again and again to do the task which is just in the box of Hive already.

no need to be good linux admin, all you need is proper use of google search. except wallet sync there's no processes that can take significant amount of time. if you can not add features to your rig, how you can be 100% sure its secured? Cool the only way is to build by yourself. and you will never learn to do that with hive? hive might be good for huge farms. but if you running a huge farm and don't know how to configure your miner - dude you probably should stop before somebody got everything)

So man do it yourself and stop this bullshit. Rent a server, create your custom Ubuntu linux miner system and after 2 or 3 month come back here.

Pretty sure you are using claymore.

Did you try it at least?

Time is coins so if you want to do it yourself do it. HiveOS allow me to install any rig in less than 5 minutes with auto-configuration and mining strait away.

And please create your linux system, you can find everything on google.

you don't need 2-3 months man, one night tops to build custom ubuntu/debian. no rent is necessary if all the toys will be on free heroku node. how fast you will clone os image on all your rigs depends on their amount.

the only two things i didn't tried yet is hive and ethos. trust issues  Cool
tried claymore once a year ago - don't think its relevant if you building custom miner

That's all fine and well but can you stop beating your drum? We get the point! This thread is clearly about HiveOS and there's no point continually slagging it off here.

It's like going to a furniture shop and standing around telling people not to buy something because there's a hardware store down the road for tools and they can go to the forest, pick their own tree, cut it down, mill it and make something much better themselves. Ok some might have the time and motivation to do that but others just want a table, now, thanks.

Hell start your own thread about how to roll your own linux os and monitor it for free.

sounds like you never been in hardware store)) you know that you need to pay there as well? i thought maybe im missing something, maybe the price is somehow justified - but its just a shitty negative from you so far

Dude knock it off! what's your deal? you shared your points and it's time to stop being an ahole

Verge desktop wallet (both windows and MacOs) is a piece of shit! Angry Always having connectivity and sync issue.
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Cabinet Design on: December 23, 2017, 07:48:29 AM
are they gonna be hanged on a rail using a single screw? I've tried a similar experiment at home (16 gpus on 2 rigs), it saves lots of space and it has kinda ok air flow, but when connecting all the wires and risers, it will be kinda cramped depending on who big the cabinet is.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash Coming back online December 20 2017 ( Tomorrow ) on: December 20, 2017, 02:30:01 AM
As long as there are so called "miners" who don't crap about this technology, they can screw up and come back again. The funny thing is that NiceHack people have made no promises to compensate the users who lost their coins. They announced it as "YOUR coins were stolen". What a joke!
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore Ethereum GUI - Windows - Profiles - EthTeam.com on: December 19, 2017, 07:09:39 AM
This is nice but I guess lot of us have many more parameters to set. like esm, gres, r, retrydelay and ...

Is there any way to configure them?
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: It is too late to start mining? on: December 18, 2017, 03:02:32 AM
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY NEWBIES KEEP ASKING THE SAME QUESTION " ITS TO LATE TO START MINING , IT IS STILL PROFITABLE ?"

No one can tell you !
Always going to be a 2 group of ppl who telling you it's ok go for it , or dont bc you just wasting ur money !
You have to make a decision for yourself !
Do your own research !
No one can tell you for sure what's going to happen with cryptocurrency !
No one can tell you it's going to be profitable for you or not !
No one can tell you how much profit you going to be able to make ! ( if you can make any at all )
No one can tell you the ROI ( return of investment) time !
None of those calculators you are seeing on the web can tell you what's coming tomorrow , months later or 6 months later !
Those calculators telling you about today , at that moment when you typing in your information !
It's little bit of gambling , you must to decide you want to play on the lottery or not  Grin
YES some of us got lucky , made some money with mining
YES some of us got unlucky , lost some money , bc when price started to fall , sold the coins , miners

ORIGINAL TOPIC HERE Smiley

Liked the answer! Pretty much telling us the story and 2 different perspectives. I'd say asking this question means that you probably heard the news, don't have enough information nor trying to acquire. IMHO you should look at mining as a long term risky investment (both time and money).

1. Understand the cryptocurrency (no need to know very technical details)
2. Research about the mineable coins
3. Pick few coins you understand, love, and believe
4. Find out how much you can afford to invest (as old saying "Never invest money you cannot afford to lose")
5. Find out what hardware is best matching your budget and coins you love
6. Suggest to think it as a long term investment

I was checking it out last night. Pretty tempting to try. looks sleek and intuitive. I found one small feature is missing; "Profiles". It'd be awesome to have profiling feature so we can create different profiles which is technically a mixture of a wallet, miner program, and if possible overclocking settings. It was always my dream to have these all together.

Like when you want to mine a coin which is core intensive, we just select the miners, select the profile (miner program, wallet, and overclock settings) and BOOM!

Anyhow, I am gonna try it out this weekend.

Btw, the website is down right now  Cry

OC profiles are in plans. Right now some other task in priority. Though you can count on that in a month or so.

There was server hardware upgrade so it's down for a while. Please follow Telegram channel or Facebook group for live announcements.

Looking forward!

After last night server maintenance I am unable to access the website from home/office. It's very odd that I can reach the website via phone LTE or Proxy on my laptop. What could be the reason? Cloudflare blocking me?
