61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Tether die soon or it will survive? on: May 13, 2019, 12:29:11 PM
Tether is basically printing U$. Nobody knows if Tether will blow up or continue to be accepted in exchanges.

They already know that Tether is only 74% funded. That is 26% of the U$ in Tether simply don't exist. How can it retain U$ 1 valuation? Nobody knows.

There is speculation the Tether is backed in Bitcoin, not in U$.

US authorities are going to crack down hard on this because if USDT oughta maintain 1:1 parity with the dollar, then they have to show the money. Gotta be 100% funded, not just a smaller fraction.
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: It's time to buy altcoins on: May 13, 2019, 12:24:35 PM
For growth I think altcoins are still the way to go.

Personally I'm buying $BAT and $POWR non stop. I think both projects have major potential. BAT is probably the future currency of advertising on the WWW and POWR is the future of private sector decentralized energy generation.

On the other hand if you're looking to store value then do like the wealthy Chinese who are buying Bitcoin to store their $.

63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Token smart contracts on: May 13, 2019, 12:20:16 PM
Hi Guys,

Im a newbie not just to this for forum but the blockchain, crypto and smart contracts etc...

However being an entrepreneur I am very interested in finding ways to make some money.

I have a question regarding a token:

Is it possible to put in the tokens contract that the monetary value of this token can go up and down but never less than an X figure of fiat currency because the token is based on consensus that X=X because value of X cannot go lower than X?

Would be very grateful for some advice on that  Wink

Regards

Bainzy

That's impossible within the blockchain.

To do that you'll need fiat money reserves at a bank. Then you can increase and reduce reserves to keep a certain proportion to your tokens. If you have 2 tokes for each dollar in reserve you'll make its value U$ 0.50

Stablecoins THEORETICALLY hold their 1:1 parity with the dollar by having as many dollars as there are coins.

(Whether they really do have these reserves or not is another story altogether)
64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I buy bitcoin now?? Or I'm too late?? on: May 11, 2019, 12:03:08 PM
Crypto market in general is heading to 200 billion USD I think we're getting very close to what we all call a bull run

I think the bull run has just begun!

Wait till we see Bitcoin added to major equity funds in NY. It's going to be soon, just needs some regulation.
65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Scammers running free on: May 11, 2019, 11:59:57 AM
Not until we start seeing crypto scammers get arrested for real many new investors won't join,I have friends that won't join crypto because of scammers running away with ICO funds forever ,no way to arrest them and get the funds out of them, the few news I read about getting some scammers is not enough ,the more there is an effective way the less scammers will harm crypto

I disagree here. We're seeing scammers face justice.

Check out this guy who stole millions in crypto and now has to pay 3x more: https://crypto.bi/z/threads/justice-served-guy-hijacks-phone-steals-u-23-million-in-crypto-has-to-pay-u-76-million-in-damages.941/

Some infamous cases were indeed under-penalized, but I think we don't need major state regulation to get scammers to justice. Using existing laws is enough to protect crypto investors from scammers.
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum vs BitcoinCash Which will win? on: May 11, 2019, 11:57:05 AM
Ethereum is the second largest cryptocurrency according to coinmarketcap. Ethereum has a marketcap of $14.6 billion. Ethereum is used in most of the ico to raise funds and most of the tokens are ERC-20 based on ether network.

Bitcoin Cash (BCHABC) referred many times as the real bitcoin, stands at the sixth position on coinmarketcap. BCHABC has not as many uses as Ethereum have but used and accepted in many payment systems.

What do you think who will win in the long term?
 Ethereum or Bitcoin Cash (BCHABC)?

What uses does BCH have?

It does nothing. It's a BTC fork which began in controversy and remains so.

There is absolutely nothing underneath BCH. It's not a platform for contracts, it's not widely accepted, it's not really different from BTC at all.

Look at the top 20 altcoins, most of them are simply worthless. Their market cap is fake and relies on Bitcoin's valuation in order to exist.
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stable coins in cryptocurrency? on: May 10, 2019, 11:36:20 AM
Lots of coins are stable on Coinmarketcap doge and trx, one of them is a stable coin at the moment, even though there is pumping and dumps, the price will return to normal.

You're kidding right?

That's not what the "stable" in stablecoin means.

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies tied to the US dollar. They stay 1:1 in parity with U$.
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Top 50 coins that are worth looking at? on: May 09, 2019, 12:42:43 PM
Does anyone have any Top 100 marketcap coins worth looking at?
Not so much interested in Ethereum killers, DAPP Platforms, coins like XRP, LTC.

Take a look at the Brave Browser project and the BAT token.

I think it's one of the most exciting crypto projects out there. Huge potential.

Yesterday I showed Brave Browser to a friend and he was immediately hooked, will recommend it to others as well.
69  Economy / Speculation / Re: Welcome Back to $6k Bitcoin! on: May 09, 2019, 11:53:58 AM
the scenario is almost the same as what happened in 2017. where bitcoin began to show an increase in the middle of the year, then reached the peak at the end of the year. will this be the same? no, it can be lower, or it can be higher, we just wait.

Scenarios rarely ever repeat themselves precisely because of people's expectations.

Assume that everyone thinks 2017 will repeat itself. Then the price will crash a few months earlier because everyone will predict to sell in december/january, so everyone will sell in november, for example.

My 2 cents: I think that Tether has been exposed and the exponential valuation we saw in 2017 won't happen again. Growth will now be more linear but still upwards.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Binance was hacked=> Everyone should be wary of your wallet and trade on Binance on: May 08, 2019, 04:51:46 PM
Worst part of the Binance hack was the Binance CEO planning on attacking the Bitcoin blockchain to reverse the transaction.

This is likely the most scandalous tweet in crypto:

https://twitter.com/cz_binance/status/1125996194734399488

This raises so many questions. He talked about it like he could easily do it. I have no reason to doubt him now, but I used to think Bitcoin was safe from this kind of attack.

These guys can inject whatever they want into the Blockchain?
71  Economy / Economics / Re: Have you figured out what you are Investing in? on: May 08, 2019, 04:40:15 PM
Except Bitcoin, I reckon I could identify several niches in crypto industry like privacy coins, 4th generation blockchains, stable coins, exchange coins, etc,

and assess and select the best projects on each niche and invest on it. Smiley
This is a good strategy, while bitcoin is without a doubt the best coin in the market bitcoin cannot do everything, there are many good coins out there that can do something better than bitcoin so investing in them some of your money can be a great way to multiply it in a relatively short amount of time, however it is important to remember to not invest in projects that are just starting since it is quite easy for the developers of most coins to promise that their coin will be the best in the market and it is something completely different to actually achieve that.

This is spot on.

Just to mention one example: BAT actually substituted Bitcoin in the original Brave Browser project.

I'm not familiar with the why's and how's of this early decision but it's likely due to the high price of Bitcoin transactions, which would offset the tip amount. You'd tip $5 and the TX would cost $1, that's 20% fee. Really cheap when you move millions of $ but not adequate for micropayments.
72  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is urgent. Argentina is printing free money too on: May 06, 2019, 11:30:23 AM
It is crazy how government just manipulate the currency as they want, but does not this lead to their currency going down since they are printing it out, but obviously this is one of the cases where we knew about it, but for sure they have been doing it for years under the table the same as the other countries where money is being printed and put to banks, if this keeps going it will lead to a finical crisis, the same as the case of zimbabwae where they have a currency of 1 trillion dollar worth only 0.4 actual us dollar.

It is surprising news for me, as I cant believe that a government do this kind of thing. Do they even think what are the bad effects of printing more money? I do believe if it is happening in my country then there will be non stop demonstration against the government's decision.

It's happening on a daily basis in the world's largest economies and soon it'll happen in non-reserve currency nations as well (see links about Argentina posted by colleagues above).

Japan came up with this idea in 2002, they called it quantitative easing (QE).

Here's the trick: if you print money and give it to the people, it generates inflation. Money becomes "cheap" and easy.

But if you print money for banks only and never let it reach the population, banks make sure the money's used to pump the stock markets while The People must work 9-5 to pay their bills.

Essentially we're living in a system where banks command everything, they print money for themselves. 99% of the people worldwide exist solely to keep the banks running.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: One of the largest banks in France issues a token on Ethereum blockchain on: May 06, 2019, 11:26:23 AM
https://www.coindesk.com/societe-generales-work-with-public-ethereum-is-a-big-deal

What do you think of this? How much does eth benefit when a new token is issued on it's architecture. Does this have any influence on you wanting to buy into eth, or is it not a big deal?

It's a big deal for Ethereum IMO.

Basically nobody's buying coffee or taxi rides in ETH. The killer app for Ethereum has been the sheer amount of projects done on top of it.

Think about it: how many billions of U$ are relying on Ethereum virtual machine right now?

There are immense projects like BAT and POWR who rely on Ethereum blockchain. And ETH delivers!

The more projects use Ethereum, the stronger it becomes. Gas must be bought in ETH, smart contract commands depend on gas and so on. Having big projects in the Ethereum blockchain makes all the difference.

About the French bank issuance: I am skeptical of centralized financial institutions issuing cryptocurrency. It's exactly what we don't want technology-wise.

But marketing-wise it's great, one more financial institution generating buzz about cryptocurrencies is great for the community. It's just not a killer app IMO.
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IEOs drop in value is no threat on: May 06, 2019, 11:22:54 AM
I read few posts today and people keep talking about IEO losing price well here is my own thought

1)IEO projects from popular exchanges are safe and not scam and thats what matters most

2)just because its IEO don't expect quick profits ,they tend to drop in price and that doesn't mean they won't recover at least

What IEO fix is 'getting scammed' and not always profits for investors, thats why I keep telling people not to rely on exchanges only ,just because an IEO is from popular exchange you still need to do research on the project yourself to at least understand what they are introducing

Obviously the fundamentals of a project will determine its success in the long run.

Someone selling tokens for a perpetual motion machine is necessarily scamming people, because the underlying idea is crap.

The main advantage of an IEO for investors is the fact that the asset is immediately listed on a big exchange.

Many crypto projects depend on getting listed to gain value. With IEO's you get that from the start.

If the project sucks though, everyone will simply dump their shares and leave, so the success ultimately depends on project fundamentals not on the exchange or how the crowdfunding stage was done (IEO/ICO/STO etc).
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about IEO (Initial Exchange Offering) on: May 06, 2019, 11:20:13 AM
With recent happenings in crypto currency regarding token sale,
i think icos are beginning to find their feet because binance conducting the crowdfunding event for BitTorrent and Fetch.AI has raised the hyped again.

And now, Bittrex has also announced a crowdfunding event too, an IEO,

so can you give your opinion on whether IEO or ICO will survive on the long run

Cryptocurrency crowdfunding is going to change names lots of times in the future.

ICO's weren't even a thing just a few years ago. Or perhaps Bitcoin itself was the most successful ICO in history, with just 3 or 4 guys exchanging coins among themselves.

All of them will survive, just with different names and adapted to their new reality.

IEO's are exciting because the main challenge for new coins is getting listed in big exchanges.

With an IEO, the ICO is guaranteed listed in the exchange. This is a big plus.

I think the long term success of IEO's will depend on whether these first few offerings succeed. Also will depend on the reliability of the exchange blockchains. If the Binance blockchain is stable and does not present bugs in the near future, this might be a game changer.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is advertising for ICOs unethical? on: May 06, 2019, 11:13:26 AM
I've noticed many ICOs have to spend a lot of money on promotions and advertising.

For example, let's say an ICO raises 10 million dollars but has to spend 9 million on promotion.

Therefore, they only really raised 1 million for the project.

Isn't this unethical?

If you're starting a company and looking for investors the traditional way via stock equity, you would never spend 9 million or even 5 million or even 2 million in order to raise 10 million from investors.

This begs the question, what ratio of promotion cost versus funds raised for ICOs is ethical?

And how do we know if an ICO is using an ethical ratio?

Not necessarily.  The ICO phase is the crowdfunding phase - it's where you draw the crowd in.

So it's mostly a marketing phase where you don't have a product yet to show.

The guys behind the ICO are mostly marketers, community managers and designers who build the prototypes and do the crowd communication.

So no, actually advertising is not unethical, it's THE main purpose of an ICO.

Obviously the ICO must have a product/service offering, otherwise it's a scam. It can't just be marketing, but marketing is a big part of it.
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC or ETH, what good to own now?? on: May 05, 2019, 07:48:07 PM
What's the application for Litecoin? Even its founder sold all his stash when it was at the all time high.

Ethereum has a use though. Smart contracts, ICO's and tons of applications use Ethereum.

I just don't see a use for early 2nd generation coins like Litecoin or Dogecoin. They were interesting experiment back then, but now they don't really make any sense. Just my 2 cents about that.
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Find the next 100x on: May 03, 2019, 03:33:30 PM
I'm in crypto to get rich. There are coins which pop 100x and even 1000x in small periods of time. Its possible to become a millionaire very quickly in this space.

My two biggest scores (in $ terms) we're with Nano (Raiblocks) and NEO (Antshares). I've also had some massive multiples but not earnt as much on a few low caps.

I want to find the next NEO / NANO. What are they?

The question per se does not make sense.

The only way to make 100X is to do something no one else is doing. If everyone knew what the next 100X would be, it'd become 100X immediately and nobody would be able to buy it at 1/100 the price.

Ethereum did large multiples because it became defacto standard for smart contracts.  Litecoin did large multiples because God knows why. (There's no practical reason for Litecoin to be worth anything IMO.)

My wild guess: the next 100X will be BAT - Basic Attention Token. But I could be wrong.
79  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Market situation on: May 02, 2019, 02:27:41 PM
We need a few developments for Bitcoin to gain traction again. Right now we're still treading water in the Tether debacle. Bit events will change Bitcoin forever and push value up. And I think these are just around the corner.

Events I'm waiting for:

  • Bitcoin to be added to equity funds in NY
  • BAT ads on global scale with Brave Browser
  • World recognition of Bitcoin as currency
  • Popular knowledge about how the Fed works

The People need to find out that the Federal Reserve is not a wildlife park. And that it's not Federal either!

The more people find out how the Fed and partner central banks work and how Bitcoin works, the more people will join Bitcoin markets.

Before widespread adoption we need widespread knowledge. That's the missing step.

I'm hoping the above groundbreaking events will make Bitcoin a household name. People will begin to save money in Bitcoin everywhere. Bitcoin will become the people's reserve currency. We just need to get knowledge about it around to friends, relatives and coworkers.
80  Economy / Economics / Re: If you could make any economy/token/currency what would you make? on: May 02, 2019, 06:02:44 AM
If you could make any economy/token/currency token what would you make?

Thought experiment: all of last year's bitcoin history just happened in a parallel universe, and you all have no access to the main blockchain.
You do have the source code, and are free to start/join any blockchain you'd like.

Which block chain would you invest in? (What characteristics would you tweak from the current main blockhain?)
In fact, I guess you should keep a portfolio of coins from several different blockchains. How would you allocate that portfolio?

The main tweakable characteristic of the current chain is it's maturation time: Let's call 21,000,000 bitcoin 1 Megatoshi.
Then, the key difference between the chains is the "Megatoshi half life": the current chain has a half life of about four years - every four years the number of bitcoins not yet generated is halved. How would you diverge your portfolio in this respect? Would there be sense in investing in different blockchains with the same half life and other characteristics, or will there be only a few different chains, and no two chains will have the same intrinsic characteristics?

Note that this has a real impact on the potential growth of your chain - too short a half life (like 10 minutes) means that all the coins are generated too fast, the public doesn't have enough time to join, and your coins will essentially be worthless. A half life of a millenia means nobody can generated hardly any coin, and your coins are again worthless.

Four years seems like a magic number (another credit to Satoshi's brilliance), but I'm wondering if in this thought experiment you would want to diversify at all. Perhaps even in this case the masses will converge into a single block chain, simply for the added security in masses that the dominant blockchain conveys.

One that is for the people, by the people

1. one with decentralized voting built into it, so we can vote on issues rather voting people to vote for us. (unlimited jobs created for when robots take over, universal basic income)
2. one where the tx fees go to support global projects (garbage, hospitals, self sustaining farms, back up housing for the people in natural disasters, food for the working class, gas for the working class and the decentralized voting allows us the people to say where our taxes go)
3. one with a fairly distributed supply (weather it be equal hashing power to all users on the network or duration dispensed into unique address verified by picture and fingerprint or we could even do blood, via file sharing / and populations? if don`t unite)
4. one with a built in exchange p2p trading(these banks getting "hacked" then getting bailed out by other banks or governments need to stop)
5. one that people would not trade for the current fiat because it is the new fiat
6. one that does leave our future generations enslaved because we mined it all before them (we all should start the race equally no matter if we are born later in life, bitcoin is a 100% premine to anyone being born after 2025 pretty much and watch the ending of huntercoin on youtube the simulation of what happens)
7. one that is not another mans money supply, but everyone creates the supply so it is everyone's
8. one that is not so harsh on the environment and power usage but instead uses the power to good use and does not create waste
9. one that the united nations united to become the "united nation" to create because they are the people to do this and make it work slowly I mean they got unlimited funds already. (and no one needs to give up anything they already own)
10. I would not need another one

I guess us Germans can put it behind and forgive you to  Grin, Water under the bridge brothers.
Oh, Can we also allow woman to not be forced to wear a shirt over their nipples I mean equality #freetheboob2020 come on there is African tribes that seem fine without that silly law. Plus boobs release stress just by looking at them.  Grin There would be a lot less people doing church shootings or blowing up mosque and synagogues if they were looking at some boobs on the drive over. I mean that should be up the ladies if they want to show them or not, just like us men can. I mean if everyone voted on that issue I think it would be like a 90/10 split for yes.  Cheesy

I would give half of my income to satoshi each time I got some and earned some, he or she or them deserve it, they gave the bankers and governments a out, no one needs to die, and we can start focusing on space exploration that is another unlimited job or what were going to do when that sun burns out.

wait a second how does this post have Read 1058 views but only 3 comments?  You guys have no thoughts?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5135915.0 (The Solutions) I have created 1 more since this post and that is to back material goods with coins. I mean to back coins with goods and yes you can make timed currencies for perishable goods so the coins expire when the fruit does.

It's hard coming up with any improvements to Bitcoin which would justify inventing something new that isn't Bitcoin itself. Everything I think about it comes back to BTC for some reason.

If I were totally in charge of the first Bitcoin ever, I'd make it 1 billion coins instead of 21 million. I'd also make blocks spaced every 1 minute and difficulty adjustments more often. This would probably avoid the november 2017 issues where mempool got clogged.

Otherwise I can't think of a better currency idea than Bitcoin itself. Most amazing financial invention since fiat money itself.
