61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / HOWTO: set a donation address on IRC on: June 06, 2011, 03:47:04 AM
...or at least on Freenode.

Donation addresses are everywhere here on the forum, and I've found a way to implement them on IRC.  NickServ on Freenode supports the adding of arbitrary metadata to registered nicknames. Just type:
Code:
/nickserv set property donations <address>
where <address> is your chosen BTC address. You can also replace 'donations' with any other string, if you want.

Then, if someone on IRC deserves a donation, type:
Code:
/nickserv info <theirnickname>
and look for a 'Metadata' field to see if they've set an address.

I agree that it would be a great idea.
63  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What's the best way to watch BTC price action live? on: May 29, 2011, 01:08:17 AM
If you use Chrome, the MtGox Peek extension is also handy.
64  Economy / Marketplace / Re: The Canadian Bitcoin Dealership on: May 29, 2011, 12:55:42 AM
A few people have had this idea already. I remember discussing it in #bitcoin-cad . Draft proposal is here and wiki page is here. However, that's more of a peer-to-peer exchange and is still in early planning phases..

You should also be aware that MtGox plans on offering easy CAD deposit and withdrawal within the next month or two, from what I've heard. Are you prepared to compete with them?
65  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BitLotto tickets AFTER June 1 are now 0.25 BTC per ticket! on: May 29, 2011, 12:47:32 AM
I sent 0.25, so does that mean that after june 1st I have a ticket for the next drawing?

I'm not associated with bitlotto but might as well answer this...

Each month's draw has a different address to send to. I hope you sent to a later one, not the June one.

IMPORTANT NOTES
In case you didn't read the sidebar on the bitlotto site, I'll reiterate some important points here:

  • Don't send your payment from an e-wallet like MyBitcoin or MtGox. Send it from your computer and back-up your wallet (which you should be doing anyway)
  • To buy multiple tickets, send multiple separate payments.

Sorry to be verbose, but I don't want people to lose BTC by missing the instructions on the site. Again, I'm not affiliated with them.
66  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Txn fee back to 0.01 in rc5? on: May 29, 2011, 12:34:44 AM
I just upgraded from 0.3.22-rc2 to -rc5.  I liked the considerably lower fee in rc2, but this seems to have been reverted or regressed. Even with txn fee manually set to 0.0005, I get asked to pay the old fee of 0.01. Is this expected behaviour or a bug?
67  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Pool, Long polling, JSON API, invalid insurance [~275 gH/sec] on: May 27, 2011, 09:22:58 PM
This doesn't look like planned downtime, so nobody can really say how long it'll last.

Just switch to another pool while you wait.
68  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Continuum Mining Pool: NO fees, client monitors via email and twitter on: May 27, 2011, 09:18:46 PM
You guys are my new standard backup pool. Throwing my ~785 Mhash/s at you while my main pool is down.

Any chance of setting up an IRC channel?

Also, are payments made only when balance hits 1 BTC? Manual payouts would be a nice option too.
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #bitcoin-cabal: small channel, troll-free zone! [0.25 BTC to join] on: May 21, 2011, 01:01:29 AM
I'd like to join. IRC nick is DareC

Let me know where to send the 0.25.
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Demographics -4- Where do you live? on: May 17, 2011, 02:13:38 PM
As a Canadian, I somewhat resent being lumped in with the US.  Roll Eyes

Anyway, for the other Canadians in here, feel free to join us on #bitcoin-cad on Freenode if you're not already there.

Tell us more about your game idea.
72  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 15, 2011, 09:22:52 PM
I'm surprised that nobody here has mentioned that we have an IRC channel now! Come join us in #btcguild on Freenode. I hope it wasn't supposed to be a secret  Cheesy
73  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Has anyone used Magma PCI expansions? on: May 15, 2011, 09:18:49 PM
Does anyone know if something similar but (much) cheaper exists?
74  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 12, 2011, 04:07:50 AM
Looks like our latest block is invalid/orphaned, but I still got a reward. Is that expected behaviour?

Yes.  As a 2.5%+ donator, you are insured against invalid blocks at this time.

Awesome. Really loving this pool so far. Keep up the good work!

76  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: AMD Catalyst 11.5 Discussion on: May 12, 2011, 02:39:56 AM
I updated and seem to be getting the same hashrate. Assuming I was reading info in the installer right, there was no update to the OpenCL drivers from 11.4 to 11.5.
77  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Please test: New Experimental Pool "Eligius" on: May 10, 2011, 03:14:21 AM
Anyone else having connection/idle issues?

EDIT: Working now.

Jeez, right after I switched over. Guess it couldn't handle me  Grin
79  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [MINER] Phoenix - New efficient, fast, modular miner **BFI_INT support!** on: May 10, 2011, 12:29:49 AM
Would it be possible to show on the bottom line which OpenCL device is being used?  I've got a 6990, which has 2 GPUs on one card. I run two instances of phoenix via batch file and can't tell them apart.
80  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Anyone selling BTC for AP? on: May 09, 2011, 03:06:14 AM
You're generally going to have trouble with an amount that small.

If you can't find anyone else, I'd be willing to give you 2 BTC for your US$8. That's worse (for you) than the current rate on MtGox, but IMO pretty reasonable considering small amount and risk of you filing a dispute in alertpay.
