61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: First Rig Running - not showing temps? on: September 17, 2017, 11:51:59 AM
So is there a Monitor or HDMI Dummy Plug attached to your Mining Rig? If the answer is no than you won't see any Temp. or Fan Speed in Claymore.
And if you don't mod your Vbios you won't be able to do overclocking in windows. Linux is another story.

Is the ROM update not the mod you mean?  I did that already.  Yes, there is a monitor attached to one of the GPUs -it doesn't show fan/temp either.

sorry - had people over.  I let it run, it shut itself down within an hour - so obviously not a great move, but all are still working.

pressing s gives me this:

Googled monitor/dummy plug.   Now I feel like a dummy plug.

I do have a monitor on one of them Smiley  Doesn't show temp or fan on that one either.

I got my first rig up and running, running Claymore dual miner.  What I don't see is the temperature and fan speed.  They are running pretty hot and don't want to hurt anything - is it a problem if the software isn't showing fan/temp?

I'm using:

Biostar TB250-BTC Pro Motherboard
5 Saffire Nitro RX 580 8GB (have a 6th, but one riser was bad)
16GB RAM
120GB SSD
Windows 10 64-bit

Hashing is less than I thought @ about 27Mh/s per card with the ROM update linked from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiPCwJV_ryM

Hopefully that is enough info Wink

thanks in advance.

lol - thanks for giving me all the shit Smiley

I did do well in science class, but as I whipped through that post - I didn't really consider how I was saying things.  I was more worried about frost forming to be honest and causing problems (now that I think about it) and if that could melt (condensation really isn't the proper word for that).

I did a little more research and did more googling.  I just figured since most of these rigs are running higher heat than most computers are, then there could be some folks doing this already and telling me "it's ok" Smiley

Thanks!
65  Bitcoin / Hardware / Rig setup - garage or basement? on: September 11, 2017, 11:26:47 AM
As I plan out my first rig, I was curious if anyone had set theirs up in their garage?  I'm assuming yes to that... Now, what about a non-temperature-controlled garage?  I'm in a fairly cold climate (Wisconsin).  I would like to use that to my advantage, but afraid the boards would condensate during winter instead of just remain cool.

Anyone try or is this not worth it?  If not - probably best in 65 degree basement... but the noise would escape to our main floor would be my concern, so was hoping the garage idea might work.

thanks!

Thanks for all the replies!  I think I will end up with the Schneider power meter since it has Modbus connectivity.  That will allow me to record the data historically, which is perfect for my purposes.

Thanks again!

I had looked around at Triplite, but hadn't found any prices (for new) - only eBay.  I need to get more info on how those track per-outlet power.  I'll do a bit more research on those - thanks for sending me down that path.

Hey guys,

First post here.  Building out my rig and was wondering if anyone is tracking power usage?  I would like to track each rig from a current and historical (daily and monthly, most likely) perspective.  Anyone doing this and how?

I've looked over tons of options and just haven't found anything that does this historically, yet.  I see the Kill A Watt stuff looks closest, but it is all read-out instead of either web-server and historian or a protocol I can store myself.

Thanks in advance!
