61  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: September 14, 2013, 02:47:27 PM
anyone tried relocating the PDU to accomodate longer PSUs?
62  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: September 14, 2013, 02:46:43 PM
having some strange problems with my batch 1 4 modules.

the normal temps are around 46-48degC with fans spinning at the lower range of rpms set by me. (normally i set them to 30-100% at night to reduce noise and 50-100% during the day and it stays around the 30 and 50% levels respectively.)

it keeps restarting and not hashing for more than 3-4 times over the past few hours.!

hope the new firmware will help.

anyway for those overclocking to 350mhz for batch 1 or whatever.

pls do more aggressive cooling on yr miners. as a result of those measures, mine run a lot cooler than before, (below 50 most of the time except for some problems above) and much quieter.

any malaysian want to host for singapore-based miners?
65  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: anyone mining in very low electricity cost countries? on: September 13, 2013, 06:16:25 AM
Wow, I'm in singapore which have the one of the most electricity cost, $0.25/kW

Hi mate, indeed Singapore is very high rate of electricity cost! Interested to join me in Malaysia here, very cost effective and u also know lah how good our Malaysia - Singapore Custom, kopi money easy settle already to transfer mining rig to Malaysia!

Cheers
Haha. Hmm.. I dont think i want to move it due to the huge rig and a already setup airconditioning. Still of some profit. Want to watch the miner mining. Cheesy

Yeah and it is nice to hear that! But anyway if on a long run, IMO it is better way to shift it to Malaysia although a bit more complicated work to do! You also don't want your hard earned money and most of the money contribute to the electricity, isn't it? Sing Dollar 0.25 kWh is almost MYR of 0.625, almost can get it by 6 times in Malaysia! So IMO long run is better to set it up in Malaysia! I don't think you will mind only to see how it mine, the importance is how your wallet growth with full of coins, am I correct? Lol! Just a suggestion and could round me up if you interested, so we can meet up and share some experience!

Cheers

25cents is in sing dollars so that means 19.7 US cents

firesky where in malaysia are u located?

my previous mining address is still stuck at

Approximately 0.16254336 BTC remaining to enter payout queue. If you remain inactive then you will enter the payout queue, due to inactivity, in approximately a few seconds.

for a few days now..

Its because the balance is below the absolute minimum threshold for entering the payout queue, 2 TBC (0.000131072 BTC).  I've been meaning to note that in the stats.  I'll do that now.

Edit:  This can also be if your balance is > 2 TBC but less than 10 TBC.  Balances less than 10 TBC do not enter the normal payout queue and are always manually paid.

-wk

so do i have to mine for that address for a little more to trigger that payout ?

69  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 4 Pwm fans for avalon batch1? on: September 11, 2013, 08:07:38 AM
There are 4 pwn slots and I was thinking of installing identical fans for the rear to have even push and pull fan

Though I don't see an entry for 4 fans on cgminer status page

My psu is mounted externally so no issue with it.

There is no need to do that. stick with the fans that push fresh air in the unit.

This.  Also one of the Avalon devs, I believe, noted that installing fans there would actually worsen the cooling due to how having fans on, both, the front and back would affect the airflow.

The best option, I believe, would be a more powerful fans in the front ... though those are already pretty powerful.

why would it be?
i applied duct tape to the gaps between the front fans and the units (just enough to bridge the gaps) and the rear fans (externally mounted and on 4pin molex) and temps improved.

now i want all 4 fans to run at the same speed when i change them via cgminer

this address is my bitstamp wallet for my mining outputs, while i recognise the deposit into my account of 0.11170761 BTC I have no idea what is the withdrawal about?

this has been happening for quite sometime and i am really confused...

miner suddenly stopping for 2hrs+ until manual restart for no reason again

i've managed to capture the cgminer api log but forgot to capture the kernel and system log.

any idea why?

Yes, and if you have a very old setup, it's best not to keep your settings and reconfigure your machine from scratch

how old is old?

So, what's wrong with Google Translate?  From most of the crap documentation that comes with Chinese stuff, it's obviously how the Chinese translate stuff to English.  Or is that Ingrish?

i speak english and mandarin so I think i can answer your question.

basically, the language structure for english and mandarin is quite different.
furthermore, while i don't know the mechanics of the translation engine, 1 word in mandarin can have 1 or more ways of reading it and they can have vastly different meanings, so translating it without understanding the context is recipe for disaster

just look for all the bad english signs/menus in china and you get the idea.

can i suggest a new feature?

idle miner notification.

so when the miner stops contributing for x mins,  it sends out a tweet or email to users?
77  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: hashrate unexpectedly drops! damaged hash units? on: September 03, 2013, 04:59:01 PM
Sounds like you've lost a module.  Check the match_work_count numbers in the cgminer api log to see which.

Reseat the power and data cables going to each module, and check the power cable pins for signs of poor contact/heat damage.

Speaking of those big inductors, mine is cracked on one of my boards, and that board is "weak" (match_work_count is about 10% below the rest).  Does anyone have a link to a replacement I can order handy?

managed to fix the problem or rather found the source of it

btw, what does "no matching work" mean? it says (after the problem has been resolved)  31
and some of the match work count (i assume to be the miner boards) show a range of frequencies, how do i know which board is which, and why do they vary so much?
78  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: hashrate unexpectedly drops! damaged hash units? on: September 03, 2013, 04:46:01 PM
Those inductors can go up to 125 degrees C ... they don't need heatsinks.

Also, those inductors aren't mosfets (http://www.vishay.com/docs/34123/lp50fd01.pdf).  There's 3 mosfets (depends on hasboard being used) and 1 inductor.  The tallest of the 4 is the one I'm assuming you connected the heatsink to.  That'd be the inductor.

There's vias for the mosfets to dissipate heat onto the heatsink on the reverse of the PCB.  Those mosfets are designed to dissipate heat to the board, not the other way around.  Adding heatsinks is not a good idea.

oh i see,  sorry i had no idea what those components are.

how would they be a bad idea i mean even now, the base of the pcb is still in contact with the heatsink.

i'm just adding another heatsink on other side.
